The boar snarled. "Salty that you didn't get picked for dinner?" Ernst asked. He could never risk a bit of banter even when the situation was completely inappropriate. The boar seemed to either comprehend or really hate human speech - it lunged for him, and he only just caught its face with his shield.
The thing was - it was wearing eyeliner. These were goth kids, weren't they? He didn't want to kill any. These guys couldn't have had a choice about being turned. But the group needed to get to Circe. Who would probably be just fine seeing them die.

He wanted to say something, to Ed. Some part of him had a joke lined up, something deeply ingrained. An instinct. Most of him, though, was just shocked, mildly alarmed, by the sheer size] of the man. Sure, he'd seen a giraffe, but somehow a bar was more...disturbing.
And then, before he could snap out of it, there were more bears. Deer and hedgehogs. Lizards and birds. He turned to face one that launched itself toward him.

Lex chirred, missing Ed and landed on their paws, tail swishing. They snuffed, listening and started forward, and ooh, well that was rather pretty staircase. They tipped their head, looking over the gown. Hmm, they look a bit like a dryad. Sort of pretty, till they talked and well that went ugly fast. And bored.
Why did villains monologue? Lex yawned, showing of the mouth of sharp teeth and darted forward, latching onto a leg and bit down hard.
The only thing Mercy heard when the witch started running her trap was a form of silence, meaning she was getting ignored while she waited for the chance to use her hammer on the bitches face. So when she finished her little speech, Mercy charged forward swinging her hammer hard and fast as a lion came running towards her.

So he switched targets for a bit, hoping the the boar would be appropriately cowed. A lizard with a large spiny frill around its neck was creeping toward him - and he smashed its tail with his tower shield as it did.
He hadn't used his shield in a while, but that didn't mean he was getting too rusty at it. He'd pat himself on the back if he could.

The room burst into a menagerie of beasts, each of them flying at the Cjosen and hoping to keep their mistress safe. Izzy drew her spear back and threw it, and was lucky enough to get a flying condor in its side. She didn't notice in the bedlam that her two remaining cures fell out of her jacket pockets.

Nails sliding through the fur at his neck pulled his attention away from Asher and back on Misha, and again he leaned into that attention, rumbling for a moment before her flippant comment had him rolling his eyes. Of course, it was very unlikely that he minded her joke, all things considered.
Of course, her seeing everything, and everyone else seeing everything were two different things.
Distraction came in the form of Circe greeting them. Her voice carrying through the room in taunting, irritating tones.
It had the bear growling, pale fur standing up along the back of his neck, and as she gestured with her staff, animals bursting from behind to charge towards them, he let out a snarling roar. Digging long claws into the floor, Edward launched himself at an over sized wolf as it barreled towards their small group, smacking it aside with a powerful blow to the side of it's head.

It didn't pass his notice that the clothing clinging to these animals, and the dark make-up around the eyes of the animal he was confronting, reminded him an awful lot of the "Gothic" Teenage Followers back in town.
It didn't surprise him that she had turned them into animals too, once she felt desperation, but it did make him tsk under his breath as he swung his shield once again.

Lex twisted, keeping away from the snapping jaw of something bit and canine? Wolf maybe? With lipstick? They jumped and set their teeth into one of the silky ears, and raked back with their paws. Just as quickly as they attacked, they dropped away, dodging teeth.

Actually - ugh, he didn't know what to do about Sylvia, or the other fox. And there was the matter of the shield...but it didn't look like the group would be moving far.
He took a breath and picked up Sylvia's shield. "I'm putting this next to the table!" he yelled in the general direction of Beth and Sylvia and Zan. He couldn't really do anything about that fox's weapon, whatever - or wherever - it was. He hoped they'd be okay, though. He'd be back to shield bash again, uh, later. There was no way he could do this right now, or make it back in time to actually hurt something.
Back by the dinner table, he held his breath and leaned the tower shield there. It was at least out of the way of the crowd of feral-looking animals, which meant that - even if Sylvia turned over there - she'd have a little moment of peace while she grabbed this now.

Mal couldn't not laugh. "I feel a little like one of the uh -- what were their names? Narnia, anyone, talking animals and a witch with delusions of grandeur?" He flicked his sword at the Witch, a flick and not an outright scorning, because the sword caught a lunging animal with smudged black liner. Was it a raccoon? Maybe.

Character Name:Mal Gherig Brief description of character: Mal is the the quintessential ice prince; cool in a crisis, he keeps a space of calm around himself even when the world is falling to pieces, but what you see on the surface isn't necessarily what's going on beneath. He has no fear of appearing like an a*****e in order to play devil's advocate, and will frequently go out of his way to do so in order to force others to think about their choices.
Zan didn't really notice Circe's monologuing, more intent on scratching at his own neck with a back foot while it went on, but he did perk up when animal after animal barreled into the room and frantically began attacking the gathered Chosen. With a smallish whuff that probably meant I'll be right back, the fox drew closer, only to be attacked by a rather salty looking pigeon. He leaped at it muzzle first for its trouble, sinking his teeth into its feathery body as thanks. Goth kid was surprisingly gratifying to chew on.

Except now that he'd gone and taken himself out of the battle for a bit, he was losing his rhythm. At least it wasn't in front of Sylvia, who'd leapt off his shoulder in a brave, ferocious display. He couldn't seem to land a hit now, though, and he was having trouble finding a specific animal to focus on - they all kind of blended together right now.
