That would be counter-intuitive to getting things done as she would actively campaign against us." Jeremiah paused a moment, his eyes flicking towards Autumn and then over to Nathaniel. "Melany wants to keep herself in power and sustaining the cage is the only way to do so, I believe. If further breaking it weakens her, that means that perhaps we can deal with two things at once. Break the cage and weaken Melany while respecting the wishes of Adoelle and The Sorrowful One." Jeremiah's shoulders rolled, his eyes sliding shut for a moment. "The Enemy is simply that, for the time being." A hand flicked in the air a moment. "If you want to talk about it later, we can. I can offer what little I know but it is a being that does not have our interests at heart. Look what those that are part of this court have done to try and appease it, how far they've gone-" Jeremiah shook his head.

Shun glanced to Lady for a moment. Well, that was a possibility. Though, he had to wonder who else would be a viable option, in case she couldn't be picked for whatever reason.
"Who here has not pissed off Melany in some fashion?" he asked.
He knew he was off that list for certain.

"Well, although I haven't upset Melany, I was also told I would not be chosen to help choose." She shrugged and toyed with the masks that lay in her lap. "If we break the cage - that is, push to tithe Adoelle - the enemy is both free but able to be killed. The alternative is the enemy remaining trapped... in ... the cage?" Temperance would really love it if everything laid in a straight line.
"I'm not sure I understand."

Jack - 25/25 "Haven't even met her yet if that's better," Jack told Shun. He then turned to Temperance with a small frown. "My understanding is that the cage also protects it. But...what exactly makes you unable to be chosen?"

I'm sure the others who were not in combat earlier are also not on her list." Jeremiah looked to both Temperance and Jack. "The cage protects the Enemy but likewise it protects us. If we keep it caged we are forever at a stalemate with it and things like this - this party, this tithe - will happen once more years down the road."

Chris nodded towards Jer, giving a wry smile to Temperance. "It's not exactly something we'd like to keep around.

The professor idly wondered, by Chris's comment, if Melany had known some other version of him. Some other cycle. Wait- Marcus really tried to hit on her?
