Living Eternally

~Rowan~

"There used to be a point to everything, but since that day I can't seem to find myself caring about anything anymore. It's not because I don't want to, but because it's best if I don't."

Walking through the forest, Rowan's mind was ablaze with different ideas and thoughts, unsure of what was happening to him. This feeling was not like any other.... yet there was definitely something more happening that did not involve whatever was calling to him. He was sure of that. As he walked, he felt that tugging sensation and, instead of walking through the forest, he was walking through a space filled with broken glass... floating through the air. His feet carried him through this place as words issued forth once again. Why do I need to be happy? I had my chance... and the world took that away from me. This second chance isn't life, it's servitude. What's the point if I can't have everything I had before? My life is meaningless if it's not my life. I don't want to be Rowan... I want to be Ian! Why can't I be Ian!? Why aren't I Ian!? Where is Ian!? She wants... Ian back. The voices would not stop, and he merely covered his ears in anger while walking through the space, trying to make his way out of this strange place. "Go away! I'm not like that! There's nothing there... there's no reason for me to feel that way! There's no way... that I care about that stuff!" He shouted into the space.

After walking for what felt like hours to him in that place, he came across some strange thing in the center of the void. It was a golden, dagger-like object that seemed to be laying in midair, ripples coming from around it that went throughout the area. In fact, ripples were starting to come off of him as he moved closer to it, unsure of what it was. If you take it... then everything will change. Expectations... the world. Your life cannot remain stagnant if you take it. Is that what you want? To move forward... or keep living in the past? What was the point of this trip, Rowan? The voices asked him, the young man finally coming up to the ornament that seemed to be floating in midair. Rowan simply stared at it, unsure of what it was supposed to be. That was when he saw someone in front of him, dressed in green with blonde hair. "Knights are heroes. That's all I wanted... is a hero to protect me. I wanted a Knight so bad.... I wanted... you to be the Knight. And I don't even know why..." The words made his eyes widen... and then he looked down at the strange object.

Take it and things change... take it and we will change! The world will not be the same! Choosing this object... is deciding to throw everything away, Rowan! The voices shouted to him... yet Rowan simply shook his head and finally spoke. "No.... it's moving forward." He stated, grabbing a hold of the object and watching everything recede back into the forest that he was used to... the world that he knew. The object clutched in his hand, he simply looked around for everything that had disappeared, yet he was met with a startling sight. It was a woman floating near him her face leaned towards him as she stared into his eyes. "You choose the future rather than the past. I can see that there are still lingering feelings within you... and that is what prevents you from being who you need to be. Still, I can see the potential you possess... and that man is proof of it." The woman stated, looking towards Alistair for a moment before turning back towards Rowan. It was about this time that Rowan realized he was in the middle of a lake, clutching the object still. The woman, however, was floating above it. "Use it well. Maybe you, too, can live up to its name." She stated, dispersing into particles of light and floating back down in to the lake.

Rowan merely stared for a few moments, wondering what had just happened to him. It was almost like what happened when someone blacked out... yet he knew that he had been moving the entire time. How else would he have gotten into the middle of the lack. Still shocked, he waded through the water until he reached the shore. Once there, he climbed out of the water and stood up, looking over towards Alistair. "I....." He began, unsure of what to say to the man. Then, suddenly, he gripped the object and looked towards the man. "I think I need to go home." He stated, referring to going back to Blake, back to the life he had been making with her formerly. There was no staying in the past anymore... they needed to move forward. Not matter what that took, no matter how that happened, he was going to make sure that they continued with their lives. She may have been the one he thought was incapable of leaving the past behind.... but that was not the case. Rowan had been living in it... brooding in the past. Now, however, he was going to make up for that... and show her just how strong he was. Even his past... would not hold him back. As such, he stared at Alistair with some, new, flame in his eyes... a will like no other. There was no more weariness, simply passion.

"Even if you tell me that there was a point to bringing me back, that still doesn't seem to mean anything to me. All I am is a weapon, and that was all I was trained to be, since the beginning."

User ImageAlistair moved along with Rowan through the desert, following him toward the strange body of water in the middle of all this sand. He had no problem with it, and as night fell, he had less of a problem with heat and one more so with the cold. Happily, he threw on his coat. He'd deal with any cold over the boiling sun. Rowan seemed to feel the chill too, donning his own new coat, one they believed guarded him even further from cold or worse. Normally, anyone who'd had a near death experience would probably be contemplating life in some way or another. Alistair, this most likely not being the last of many, was acting like nothing had happened now. Sure, it was terrifying at the time, but he was alive, okay, and that was all that mattered. He was especially glad that the kid seemed cool with not mentioning the experience to the girls. To be fair, it'd probably be bad news for the both of them...

By the time they'd gotten to the oasis, it seems that they were not the only ones wanting to visit it, a group of soldiers was heading this way, and they did not seem friendly. Their uniforms were familiar as well. This was the army that had taken on that great beast in the mountains. The sudden memory made him wonder how the group had fared in their endeavors. By the way it had been going at the time, the answer was poorly. In the distance, the man could see the silhouette of what could've possibly been the walls of yet another kingdom. Could they really have discovered another place like this? This would be yet another thing to report back to Carmillion if they ever made it back. Now, this platoon seemed very viscous, possibly willing to destroy anything that got too close to this place. Rowan had the same idea, telling Alistair to fill up on water before moving out. "Yeah, I see it," the man murmured before drinking what he could and filling up an empty bottle before moving with the kid. There were a lot of them, too many for them to fight. It was unfortunate but most certainly the case. An expeditious retreat was their best option.

It was about an hour before the kid started acting...strange. Alistair couldn't quite place what the problem might've been, but Rowan veered off in a different direction for seeming no reason at all. Usually, the young Knight's choices were well-thought enough, logic behind all of his actions. This was a strange turn of events but worse had happened on their trip. Was...he making a beeline back toward the forest? "Rowan...?" the man murmured to him, but it seemed as though he was in his own little world. Without any distractions, it did not take too long to reach the edge of the familiar landscape. Even the bear was still waiting on them, obviously happy to see the kid returning to him. When the creature finally released the poor guy, Rowan turned to Alistair, looking just about as surprised as he did. "A-alright. I don't have a problem with that at all," he said with a bit of a smile. Whatever was going on, it was freaking him out a little, but he'd continue to let the kid do what he wanted. "Lead the way."

Already evening by the time they'd hit, it was now getting dark. Above, the sky glistened with stars while the Knight before him went a little rogue. He wasn't even attempting to follow any of the marked trails at this point. What exactly was this kid thinking? After about an hour and a half, maybe even a couple hours, the two came upon a clearing. In the middle was a lake, shining blue from the reflection of the moon. It was definitely the prettiest, most welcoming place he'd seen in a long time. Even the fireflies were out, further setting the area aglow. The view made him smile. Rowan, however, seemed to be in an entirely different place, standing on the bank with a far-off look in his eyes. "Hey, are you alright, Rowan?" He was legitimately concerned. It would've been fine if he was normally a space case, but this was far too weird.

The sound of moving water turned his attention away from the seemingly zoned-out kid. Alistair had been half-expecting their weird new pet to make an appearance, but it was something all the more surprising. A little ways into the lake, an intricate gold dagger rose, breaking the surface of the water. It was instantly recognizable. The object would've made the man's jaw hit the ground if it hadn't been attached. "Is that the legendary weapon?!" He didn't dare say the name aloud, but there was no hiding the surprise in his voice. What was the kid doing finding it? An Armament...no, the Armament, and it was calling out to him? What could've caused this? Why now? Rowan began wading through the water towards it. This Armament was for all intents and purposes...the will of Carmillion, of its founder and the Fae. Everyone knew it existed, but this was by far the most shocking turn of events... Rowan, of all people? Had his strange behavior been caused by this?

When a woman rose from the water, Alistair felt a little guilty, for he found her far more beautiful than his wife. Rowan had taken a hold of the artifact, and a light returned to his eyes, a sense of awareness seeming to set into him once again. Alistair, at this point, was far too shocked to even speak. The woman, now floating above the lake, her hair flowing like the water below her, spoke to the kid. Was it fair to even call him that at this point? If Alistair was correct in his assumption, then this was the object of heroes, of kings. When the lady of the lake spoke, the white-haired man received some sort of answer. She and the Armament found some sort of potential in Rowan, that he had the capability to wield the weapon if he so chose... Alistair was even more surprised when the woman mentioned him, saying that he was proof of the kid's possible worth.

The older man's face was still riddled with absolute awe as the Knight before him made his way back to the bank of the lake. With some sort of new fire in his eyes, a determination that even Alistair could sense in him, Rowan stated that he needed to return home. It was almost as if they were glowing under the moonlight. What, exactly, had been going through the young man's head until this point? What effect did the artifact have? Either way, Alistair stared at the Knight for a moment before nodding. "That..." his eyes traveled down to the object before back up to the man. Did he even have a clue what he had in his hands? "That sounds like a great idea..."

Their journey to forest had been plagued with soldiers and all sorts of people that were trying to find the two of them. It was rather unfortunate, and it was also very difficult to move about while dragging the dire polar bear along with them. After a couple of days, however, the two of them had finally managed to reach the forest, and Rowan was sure that Blake had forgiven him for his transgression a few days earlier when he had jumped from the pavilion all the way down into the city. He ended up carrying her throughout the entire city, jumping along buildings the entire time to get to where they needed to go. In short, he had pretty much kidnapped her and carried her off without a second thought. The idea of it was rather embarrassing, yet Blake did not seem to mind what he had done too much. After all, she had turned a bright shade of red when he had originally picked her up and carried her off. I guess she really does have a thing for me. It makes me feel bad that I can't reciprocate her feelings... at least not right now. As he was, Rowan was not in a state in which he could show genuine care to anyone.

Upon reaching the forest, Rowan immediately found twenty gold right in front of its entrance, further cementing the idea that gold was all he could find when Blake was around. "This only happens when you're around, I hope you know that. It's twice now, in two trips. The very first thing I find." Rowan stated to her, his white coat billowing in the breeze. He had started wearing the item in an attempt to get attention away from the two of them while they traveled. Everyone was looking for a dark-haired man that dressed in all black and had a demonic arm. What they saw, however, was a young man who was traveling with an elf woman who was wearing pure white and seemed to have an intricate gauntlet on underneath one of the sleeves. If anything, the coat was very convenient for when he wanted to sneak around and get to places. "Wearing all this stuff is strange. I feel like I'm coated in magic or something." Rowan explained to Blake as he entered the forest, ready to begin their journey. They would search this place until he found that Sky Platform, and he would not rest until they did so.

"I hope you don't mind camping too much. That's probably what we're going to have to do if news of what happened reached Yuki no Okoku as well. All the kingdoms will be looking for us if that's the case.... well except that new one we found." Rowan informed Blake, trying to help the reality of the situation set in for her. "I know it's a bit hard to grasp... or even believe.. but we're all alone now. This is our task, and the world is not our friend right now. After it's done, there's no telling how people are going to treat us either... or at least me. Everything we've done is still going to have its repercussions." He informed Blake, helping her take in everything that had happened so far. "I probably won't be allowed back in Carmillion for what I've done.... and what I'm about to do. That place won't be my home anymore. I'm sure you'll be able to go back though. So you probably shouldn't worry too much about anything." He informed the young woman, trying to put her mind at ease at least a little bit. After all, everything must have been rather troubling for the poor woman... having suddenly been snatched from her home like she was.

"Even if you tell me that there was a point to bringing me back, that still doesn't seem to mean anything to me. All I am is a weapon, and that was all I was trained to be, since the beginning."

User ImageAs soon as they'd made it out of the kingdom, Blake felt like she could finally breathe. She figured her mom would be mad, but sending guards after them was a little extreme. No, it was very extreme. When Rowan showed her the goal, she only shrugged. "Eheh, is that is a disappointing find? It's money." She rubbed the back of her head with her hand, a little embarrassed. Was this a actually a thing? Blake dusted herself off, ready to go before following Rowan into the forest. Would the guards follow them out there? They were lucky that they were able to get to the bureau before they were alerted to their plans. "Well, I mean... to be fair, you are." The items were giving off a decent amount of mana, not that she could tell what properties the equipment had.

"It's fine," she murmured. "I don't mind it. Look, we're in this together. It's my decision too... Agh, I can't believe she told law enforcement. I'm so sorry." She pressed her hand to her face with a groan. "I'm more upset with that than anything..."

"Getting upset about it isn't going to do anything about this situation. We're stuck out here." Rowan stated, moving through the forest as best he could, trying his best to not show any irritation over what was going on currently. It was difficult, however, given his less-than-friendly attitude towards her mother and the fact that Cheyenne reciprocated that venomous animosity that the two of them were famous for having for one another. Cutting down some vines that were in his way, Rowan climbed through the trees and continued to explore the vast wilderness that was around them. "Besides, that woman would try anything if it meant getting me to leave you alone forever. That seems to be her one goal in life." He stated to his Mage, looking around for anything that could be useful to them. The polar bear was right behind them, trudging along as best it could while they traversed the area. Obviously, it was not worried about their current situation and was just happy to be walking about and enjoying its rather simple life. How fortunate it was that the creature was born a bear rather than a human.

Rowan, meanwhile, seemed to have found something on the ground while he was walking. Reaching down, he snatched up a couple of gold coins that just so happened to be laying on the ground. "This is just starting to get weird. Are you actually doing some sort of weird magic that I'm not aware of? This is just too coincidental." Rowan stated to Blake, shaking the bag of gold coins that numbered up to twenty-five at her and narrowing his eyes. Whatever the case was, the two of them were actually pretty rich now, so five gold coins was literally nothing to the two of them. We'd only be profiting really if we took down another dragon and sold whatever we got off of it for materials. That would definitely get us quite a bit of money. He thought to himself, tossing the bag of coins in the air and catching it over and over again. The young man needed something to do while they traveled through the forest, and tossing around a bag of gold seemed to be as good a way to distract himself as any. Soon, however, his attention was drawn back towards Blake, the young man wanting to speak again.

"Even if we find her homeland, it's not like we'll immediately find her. I hope you're aware of that." Rowan stated to her, hoping that she knew just what sort of trip she was in for. "We'll have to search the land she came from for her, and who knows if she would even be there or out on some mission. There's no telling how long this could take us. I hope you're up for that." Rowan explained to her, giving her a general idea of what their life was going to be like for a while. The two of them would not be visiting towns too often, and it would take quite a bit of time to finish their little mission that they were setting out on. "Either way, I'm sure we'll find it eventually... and we'll find that woman too. All we have to do is keep searching and searching. We'll find them." He reassured Blake, trying to give her a bit of confidence as well as describe the reality of the situation. This was the non-romantic side of being a Knight and Mage, when the two of them had to get into the mindset to get the job done.

After walking for about another thirty minutes the two of them were suddenly stopped by a bunch of soldiers that seemed to recognize who they were. As such, they quickly told him to turn himself in, and they would take it easy on him. This was merely met with a sigh by the man, Rowan unsure of whether he should feel sorry for the group of soldiers or be irritated that they thought he was just that weak that he could not beat them. Either way, he simply stared them all down with a look of indifference, which seemed to infuriate them. Seeing that he was not complying with their demands, the group of soldiers charged at him, ready to bring him down and take the elf woman back to her family. What they were met with, however, was a very devastating flurry of attacks by Rowan. In an instant, he seemed to have drawn his sword and was swinging it left and right, multiple attacks occurring despite him swinging his sword only once. His dimension warping was doubling the strikes and pretty much devastating his enemies. He was, however, aiming for their non-vital areas. After all, the group was from Carmillion and was simply doing their job.

Once the group of soldiers were put in their place, which they were a rather small group to begin with, Rowan noticed something that was laying on the ground. Hm... It looks like we actually got something out of this. How convenient is that? He thought to himself, reaching down and picking up the ring. Looking at it... he felt a little bit discontent. Rings were not really... something that he cared for. They just reminded him of how his left arm was not his anymore. This was mainly because rings would no longer fit on his left arm. As such, he turned towards Blake and spoke to her in a rather kind way, which was odd in itself. "Here you go, this is yours." Rowan stated to her, holding out his hand with the ring sitting in the middle of it. The ring itself did not look very special, yet there was some mana radiating off of it. Rowan, however, could not feel that mana, and as such he was largely unaware of the properties that it may hold. I really hope this doesn't become a common occurrence. I don't want to be fighting soldiers every couple of hours. He thought to himself, unwilling to keep fighting soldiers all day.

User ImageThe blonde stretched and yawned as she watched Rowan pick up some coin off the ground. She put up her hands in good will to the response. "I wish I could just make money appear. Maybe it's my fae luck," she joked with a shrug. At the sudden thought of money, Blake almost audibly groaned but kept the expression in. She'd only had half of what they'd gotten from the info for the new kingdom. It's not like cash was a total necessity out here, but it was annoying all the same. Blake had left the rest at her mother's house. She wondered if she'd send it Cheyenne would send it to her if Blake sent a Nevermore for it... Given the current situation: doubtful. The blonde tilted her head back before she started playing with steel. It'd become a bit of a habit at this point, especially while walking.

Blake glanced at Rowan when he began speaking again, saying that this trip was probably going to take some time, though their goals were possible. No, that they were going to find them. The young woman nodded with a smile.
"Of course we will. If it takes a little bit, that's fine. I'd rather be doing this than training with mom anyway." It definitely offered a better outcome, one the two of them needed. She was a little nervous, though. Sure, she could help Rowan train, but how would Blake fair in a fight against that woman? The liquid steel floating above her hand became unstable for a moment when her train of thought derailed, but she caught it quickly before it sealed into anything. "Does your bear have a name?" It'd be nice if they could call it something... If Rowan didn't already have an idea, Blake would start thinking in case he told her to choose one, playing with the idea of making a tag for the thing's...collar. Blake squinted. Is that a belt?

Blake merely looked away with a bit of a solemn expression on her face when they were stopped by soldiers from Carmillion. They had already followed them out there, then? That had to be the case if the two of them were already recognized. "Go easy on 'em..." she murmured under her breath before the Knight moved... As long as no one died unnecessarily, then she'd be comfortable with not worrying too much about the situation, still frustrated that Cheyenne had sent the law on them. The woman stuck out her tongue before she noticed Rowan bend over to pick something up. Blake wandered over to check it out but was surprised when he gave it to her very matter-of-factly. "Thank you," she replied before taking it and putting it on. It was reverberating with a little mana before, but now that it was on, there seemed to be an even greater connection to the item. Weird... "This is magic, but I'm still not quite sure what," the woman explained, holding out her hand to look at the ornate thing.

After taking care of the soldiers, it was not long before the two of them ran into another fight... one that just made Rowan feel like he was picking on the living creatures dwelling within this forest. It was a dragon youngling, feasting on a deer that it had successfully hunted. Just the sight of it made Rowan feel like he was just being cruel at this point... yet he was also fielding the unending rage that Gram caused whenever a dragon was spotted. Regardless of his attitude, he was always influenced by the arm to convey its goal. As such, he gripped his blade with the demonic arm and watched it turn into Balmung, ready to begin a fight that would not last very long. I don't see why you creatures keep showing up when you know what's going to happen. It's like you're throwing away everything by stepping out in front of me. Rowan thought to himself, watching the creature carefully while keeping his distance. He needed to rush in and strike the creature down before it even had a chance to realize what was happening to it. His eyes drifted towards Blake for a moment before returning to the creature.

In an instant he was rushing off, running across the ground and sliding underneath tree roots that were growing out of the ground. Then, coming towards the creature, he jumped as it swung its tail at him, realizing that he was approaching it to fight. Soaring through the air, he twisted his body and wreaked havoc on the creature by slicing it twice in one instance. With a horrible roaring, it started swaying back and forth, trying to keep itself alive from the hit. Turning towards him, it clawed at the young man with quite a bit of force, destroying the tree behind him as he jumped out of its way. "That's it! I'll end it with this!" He stated, propelling himself forward from a tree and spinning with the blade. In that instance, he cut the head off the creature and landed on the ground behind where it was at. The creature's head landed on the ground with a loud thud, followed by the rest of its body. Gram's finally calming down a little bit. Maybe now I can think a bit more clearly. Rowan thought to himself, putting the blade away and watching it transform back into its normal state.

After standing back up, Rowan moved over towards the creature's dead body and began to gather materials from it. The materials from the dragon youngling would undoubtedly get them quite a bit of money, and the bear was perfectly capable of carrying quite a bit of weight when he needed it to. As such, he was not worried about how they would transport the stuff. "Just give me a little bit." He stated to Blake, carving away at the creature's flesh. After the better part of an hour, he had the entire thing carved up and the materials packed. They were ready to head out.

"No, the bear doesn't have a name... I didn't think he needed one. All that really mattered was that he followed me around and let me ride him. Do names really matter all that much?" Rowan asked his companion, wondering if such a thing was important... especially given the current circumstances. The two of them were traversing the world in an attempt to find his killer, and she was worried about what he may or may not have named the random bear he had found in the snowy mountains. To be honest, the whole thing sounded a little bit ridiculous, yet the part about the bear was just enough to make it too farfetched an idea. Why do you have to ask the least important questions when you have nothing to talk about? Rowan thought to himself as he moved through the trees, wondering if Blake was doing this on purpose or was simply that incapable of regular conversation while traveling. At least she was thankful for the ring he had handed her... although that was not really up to him. He did not have a use for it, and thus it was more fitting to hand the jewelry off to his Mage who could at least wear it and feel comfortable while doing so.

"How about instead of worrying about the bear, you watch the trees for spiders and other creatures that like to set up ambushes, that way we aren't randomly jumped by so-" Mid-sentence he was cut off by exactly what he was talking about, the young man mentally complaining as he watched four dire wolves jump out around them, blocking them in. You know, Blake, you're one horrible hazard to adventure with. You're distracting, talk about unimportant things, and you never focus on anything around you until it's too late. It was the same last time. Rowan thought to himself, remembering the creatures that kept trying to attack her because she was the weakest member of the group. These animals, however, probably did not distinguish the weakest of the group, considering their size and the pure animosity in their eyes. As such, Rowan decided that it was best to get their attention away from Blake by doing the only thing he knew how to. Drawing his blade, he instantly slashed one in two different directions at the same time, cutting it down and gathering the hatred of all three of the other wolves that were left.

It was pact mentality, and Rowan was dangerous for the pact to leave alone. When they attacked him, however, they were met with nothing, the young man turning ethereal so that they could not bite or scratch him. They tried attacking him for a few minutes, gnawing and biting as best they could. When they discovered it was futile, however, they turned their attention towards Blake. After all, if they could not hurt him, then what was the point in trying to fight him? That, however, was their undoing. Upon turning their backs, Rowan came back into the physical work and took out a second one. Turning, the creatures tries to start their assault... but Rowan merely shoved his demonic arm straight into the mouth of one of them, blocking off its wind pipe, and swung his sword at the other one, cutting both of its eyes at the same time. While the other one struggled to remove itself from his arm, he simply used his fire ability to scorch the inside of its body, roasting it alive on the inside. As it passed from the world, Rowan removed it for his arm, the carcass falling to the ground. Then, finally, he stood over the body of the last one and removed its head.

"There. That should be it. I didn't see any more hiding in the area nearby. So we should be good." Rowan stated obviously content with what they had accomplished. He then turned his attention towards Blake, staring into the young woman's eyes very intently. "You need to pay attention out here in the forest! This isn't like the last time! Not only are we by ourselves, but I can't fight off creatures like this without worrying about you. Alistair could hold his own in a fight because he was a Knight, but that's not the case here. Be attentive about your surroundings... otherwise I won't be able to protect you as effectively." He scolded her, basically trying to get her to stop talking about pointless things such as naming animals. "If we're distracted... then that could mean the end of us... even if it's just for a split second. This is deep in the woods. It's not the entrance..." Rowan stated to her, trying to get her to see things from his perspective and not sound as harsh as he actually was. He was not too good at being... nice to Blake. After all, he had spent the last few months insulting and sometimes openly mocking her.

"Even if you tell me that there was a point to bringing me back, that still doesn't seem to mean anything to me. All I am is a weapon, and that was all I was trained to be, since the beginning."
