Camelot

Camelot took a breath and closed his eyes, letting the words of the code linger for only a moment before shifting his focus to the knights around him, and around it. The longer it was tainted by Chaos, the worse it was going to get, and it was likely not going to tell them what they were meant to do. Anything it said was twisted, whether it was meant to be or not.

"I will try to purify it." It wasn't the most popular option, but if they were now leaning toward destroying it, he had to try what he could before that very final choice was made. He agreed with Hver and Gevaudan, and stepped forward, sword in hand. "Hvergelmir is right, we cannot just give up on something, no matter how tainted by Chaos it seems. The Negaverse and the Knights are connected, as deeply as Order and Chaos itself. Part of our duty is to protect and serve each other, through our present and our pasts. I think this is a very important part of who we are, and what we might be able to be. If it doesn't work, we'll try something else. We have the ability to rise above anything, but destroying something without giving it a chance is not something I'll be able to forgive myself for. I have to admit, I'm curious, and with it speaking like that, it makes me think it's trying to keep us from trying, as well. It's worth a shot. Please, let me try."

If it was tied to the Academy, or to some important moment of their past, then it was information he wanted to have. Maybe, like others said, it could help them build something new.

Or it could blow up in their faces. That was always a risk, in this business, and tended to be the one they experienced the most. At least they had plenty of practice getting out of jams when they had to...

Celliwig, Page of Earth

A few things had become apparent to the Page of Earth. The first of those things was that the Code, a thing that they were all supposed to listen to and look to for guidance, was either batshit crazy or possessed (possibly both). The second was that if possession was a thing she really needed to look into finding a way to bring holy water along with her when she went out powered because damn.

The third? Well, she hadn't quite gotten as far as processing all of the craziness enough to get to the third point yet, but she was more than certain that she'd get there if given just a minute longer.

The code piece was giving her the heebie jeebies...

"It's like an episode of Supernatural. This is just..." Her lips pressed together into a thin line, arms crossing over her chest in an attempt to shake the feeling that this strange thing speaking to them could see right through her.

Celliwig's attention was drawn away from the Code to the short knight donning the eye patch. "Maybe they couldn't destroy it. Maybe corrupting it was the only way to get to it. Chaos seems like Red Lyrium; gets everywhere even though you don't know how it got out to begin with-- It's obviously alive, but it makes people act crazy. That thing," she paused for a moment, uncrossing her arms to make a gesture at the code, "sounds completely crazy. In pain, but angry, like a vengeful spirit. I-- Don't suppose anyone has rock salt? Or holy water?"

Why did it more often than not seem like they, as a collective, could not properly work together nor get along? Differing opinions was one thing but it almost seemed like fighting or an argument would break out, or had it? Delphi really had lost interest rather quickly to be honest. She'd heard some of what was going on, taken some of it in even, but with people tossing out idea after idea, some ones that she had absolutely no interest in and would fight against if they were attempted, she finally gave up listening. She did keep her eyes on everything though, just in case people tried to move that piece of the code. It would stay here, away from the main piece up on Mars. Her piece of the code was already acting strange, due to this one, and she didn't like the idea of potentially infecting the piece on Mars, and perhaps making her wonders piece act odder.

With Camelot here and seeming to take charge, deciding he would try and purge the chaos from it, she flicked her pale eyes over to him. "Is there anyway way I can provide you energy in order to help with your attempt?" She spoke up, willing to offer whatever energy she could. She was not transcended like others here but she was willing to try, willing to do whatever it took for them to make this try the best attempt at purification that it could be.

"I don't like that ominous voice it just spoke in, somehow I feel like it's hinting at when it told me that I should hand my wonder over and join the Negaverse. While I understand chaos is as needed as order I'm not inclined to turn over anything to the other side. It seems like that's still the code's solution and suggestion to us." She spoke while her eyes moved about the room, looking for any familiar and friendly faces.

"And the academy is lost to us, at least until the Negaverse decides to give it up to us as I doubt we'll regain it on our own any time soon. That doesn't mean that perhaps a new wonder can't be made...or something else already existing become a wonder and house this piece of the code - if it can be purified." Was it possible for a new wonder to be formed or something to become a wonder? Could they, after so long, see a new wonder be birthed? Would that be how this ended? A purified piece of the code and a new wonder, one shared by them all?

Chris Gallo

Chris nodded when Kaitaros explained that people already did try asking the Code at Olympus about what it wanted to do. He’d seen at least the Saturn knight Kairatos was gesturing to approach the corrupted Code piece, but he didn’t realize that there were others who had been to Olympus already.

Kaitaros theorized that the corruption was only done recently, and Chris was willing to believe that, at least until the Code piece finally spoke. So it had been a thousand years. Something seemed to be lingering in his memories. Something happened a thousand years ago… he should know what it was…

But something was off about what it was saying. Camelot was willing to try and purify it, but there was something… something that didn’t seem right.

The Code, corrupted as it may be, told them they were ignorant and naive to see the solution. That didn’t sound like it didn’t want to be cleansed. But it was telling them they would waste their energy.

Again, he feared for what might happen to Camelot if he did use his energy.

He could hear others questioning the Code. Asking what it meant, but he knew they wouldn’t get a straight answer. Babylon suggested destroying it. Depending on what happened, they might have to. Gevaudan and Hvergelmir were against it. Hopefully they would be able to save it. Kairatos wanted to go ahead and let Camelot try to purify it. That would be too dangerous...

Chris wished more than ever to have access to his magic. If something were to happen, he could have at least had Valkyrie protect the other knights.

“Camelot,” Chris said to the other, the first knight he’d ever met and one he trusted to know what he was doing most, but there was something… something really wrong. He could feel it. He caught sight of Celsus as well, knowing he’d been trying to suggest something other than attempting to use their energy on it. Surely Celsus could sense that there was something… too easy about it.

”Camelot,” he said again as he eased his way around the crowd surrounding the Code and the Royal Knight, his face clear with concern. There were so many strong individuals there that he doubted the words of a civilian in a teeshirt and jeans would have much of an impact on what happened, but he had to try.

“Something isn’t right,” he said quietly, not wanting to cause anyone else to needlessly worry if he happened to be wrong. And he hoped he was wrong. “This is too easy. I have a really bad feeling about you trying to purify it now. About what might happen to you. I think you should try!” he added quickly to make sure the other didn’t think he was against him trying, but… “But... a thousand years of pent up chaos… I hope the feeling I have is wrong...” he said just as softly, almost fearfully as he looked, not at the Code, but at the knights that surrounded it. Too close to it. The Code even said they would waste their energy and what energy it had left if they tried...

He felt as though they were all in danger… and he really hoped it was just the helplessness he felt talking.

Niflhel's eyes narrowed at the code piece as it spoke. Mentioning one thousand years of chaos. No one lived that long, not . . . a natural lifespan. He shifted as others spoke, Babylon was ready to purge it of existence, Hvergelmir disputed that, much to Niflhel's relief. Camelot however, was ready to try to purify it.

Niflhel moved softly over towards the code piece and closer to Camelot and Kaitaros.

"A thousand years?" Niflhel posed looking at the code piece directly in the orb of Chaos, and speaking loudly. "How, in a thousand years?" It made his skin prickle with goose bumps, and his teeth gritted together he didn't like the chaos but he was on the side of try to purify it. There were people asking questions, trying to figure things out but he wanted it right from the chaos twisted horses' mouth.

"Do you realize we've all been gone!? We have no memories of abandoning you. You can tell us what you want, chaos taint or not but my question is how in the devil do you have a thousand years worth of chaos if there was no one to corrupt you? Unless, there's something you know that we don't about the negaverse."

There was another pause, "Maybe you should tell us, or if everyone here is interested; instead of destroying you we'll find a way to lock you away and constantly attempt to purify you no matter how many times it fails."

He looked towards Camelot, "If, Camelot's attempt fails, maybe we could gather all the royals we can contact? That's what, Camelot, Castor, Ganymede." There was a pause, before he added, "Polaris?" Surely he could get her back here to help.

He turned to look at the rest of them, "There are more ways to skin a cat, if at the very least believing in Camelot and that he can do this doesn't work. And, well it maybe a little dramatic but I'd personally die before I let anyone attempt to destroy the code if we haven't run out our possible attempts of purifying the damned thing." Niflhel wasn't usually one for dramatics or semantics, usually staying quite in the back of the room throwing in his two cents and stopping there. Something about this though perked more than just his interest. "I think we owe it that much; so we have to try, no matter how dangerous it could be."

Odainsaker squeaked when the code spoke and her eyes widened. It had been that long? That was insane. She was looking to see if she saw any familiar faces, or maybe colors? The page softly moved through the crowd to see if she could find someone to talk to. It seemed there were at least a couple of knights from Cosmos. . . though she wasn't sure if she wanted to approach any of them. . .

Hyperborea was still recovering from her fight with Painite, her shoulder was in bad shape and just overall she was worse for wares. So she had decided it would be best if she took a while off from her knight duties.

Yet still laying in her bed she felt a call, it was like the one she had felt when she was called to Olympus. The code? She thought. But she shook her head she needed to rest surely whatever it was would be handled by others. However laying there her curiosity got the better of her and she eventually decided to heed the call.

So she made the excuse of taking a walk to make her way to a secluded area and power up. Once she was Hyperborea she let herself be pulled from the earth.

So the young knight whose arm was still in a sling from her last fight appeared in a room filled with other knights, some of whom she was well antiquated and some of whom she wasn't. Spotting a friendly face Hyperborea made her way to Delphi.

"Hey whats going on?" She asked hoping the Polaris squire could fill her in on what she had missed. She noted the Code piece, which she presumed was the one rescued during the invasion and Camelot with his crystal sword in hand.

Falias, Knight of Earth

And that was just plain out creepy. And it reminded him of that time at Olympus. Reminded him at that time at his Wonder too.

It's the chaos speaking Falias tried to tell himself as he forcibly clenched his fist, yelling at it isn't going to do anything. It didn't stop him from wanting to though because he wasn't sure how they could be to blame for whatever had happened 1000 years ago.

He managed it - barely - the words on the tip of his tongue as only force of will kept the annoyed words from coming out.

"I'd rather not destroy it either if we don't have to" as he added his voice to others who had already spoken out at that particular suggestion. "I mean we're all here to try and fix this thing right." After all those of them, like him, who had gone into the building had risked their lives pulling the damned thing out - as had quite frankly everyone who had gone into Nega space. He looked towards Camelot and then towards the civilian (Valhalla) that had spoken out as tried to push aside how on earth there was someone unpowered here since he was assuming that the other had to be a knight too.

"I agree with you that there's something not right here, but there has to be some way we can help. Whether that be by purification or something that we're currently missing."

He turned his attention to the Code as he tried not to think of how disconcerting the chaos addled thing was as he said simply "If what we're coming up with is wrong then perhaps you can tell us what we need to do - tell us what we need to do to make things right and whilst he was a little surprised that he'd chosen make things right rather than the to fix things that he'd been thinking about, Falias didn't try to correct himself.

Camelot with permission

Camelot looked at Chris, nodding his head and offering as reassuring a smile as he could.

"I know, I understand your worry. Believe me, I've thought about it, too... but I feel like it's something we have to at least try. I can't shake my own feeling, greater than the concern for myself, that it's only speaking up like this, threatening us, because it is trying to mislead us."

He listened as Niflhel spoke to the code, shook his head when Delphi asked to help, and noted that Hyperborea had arrived. Falias spoke again about not destroying it, trying what they could, and Camelot took a breath.

"Stand back, guys. I'm going to try."

Moving to the code, he lifted his sword and focused on the power of the crystal that shaped it, as he would when purifying a Negaverse soldier into a Knight. With some ceremony, he lifted the blade and touched it to the piece of the code, though not quite the same as knighting a shoulder, and began the purification process.

Baikal, Page of Mercury

Having nothing else further to contribute to the conversation at the moment, the page well quiet again, watching and waiting as people brought up points and discussed things further. At one point it looked as though there might be another protest, by a civilian, but this turned out to be more concern for Camelot than an argument against the attempted purification. Concern that seemed at least a little warranted.

Baikal was with Camelot though, at least in believing that an attempt should be made. He didn't want to see him hurt, but...it just seemed the most logical course of action. That he agreed was enforced by the code peace itself, twisted as it was now, trying to warn against it.

Of course, that didn't mean he didn't also see merit in Babylon and a few of the other's suggestions as well. If they couldn't purify it in some way, then destroying it before it could get back to the rest of the code was probably their only course of action.

But that, he thought quietly to himself, was assuming everything they were saying about chaos on a whole was bad, and Baikal just wasn't sure he believed that. Not after everything he'd seen from both their side and the supposed enemies.

As Camelot stepped up and lifted his sword, the page took a few small steps back, tension spreading through his shoulders.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 03, 2016 11:51 am

"Oh, oh no. The point of simple purification is long gone," the Code warned, voice booming but strangely low in volume, like it had difficulties controlling its words, its talk.

"There is no purification, not for the Code. I am energy—the natural flow of the universe. And I fought. I resisted. But Knights exist to protect the Code, and you all failed."

The Code spoke, even as Camelot placed his sword against it.

And, at first, nothing seemed to happen.

The dark swirls of chaos that clung to the Code moved quicker—violently, swarming around the area where the sword made contact. And then a sudden pulse of air, powerful and like a shockwave, erupted from it. It threw a gust of air across the group, but it did not cause harm.

Chaos still clung to the Code, spinning frantically, and the air seemed electric with energy.

And then, each Knight, would hear—plain as day—like someone whispering into the back of their mind: "You cannot force Chaos out of anything. There is no 'purification' for the Code. It never should have been corrupted. But."

There was silence across the room, though the wind still seemed to be whipping around. The voice existed only in their hearts, their minds.

"A sacrifice must be made. The Chaos cannot be purified straight from the Code. But you can divide it. You can break it up. There is one way, and only one way. Take the Chaos into yourself. Take it from me, accept it into yourselves." The air pushed at their chests, like it was trying to push into them. "…You can filter the Chaos out of the Code, you can filter it yourselves. But you cannot purify the Code. Not in the way you can purify humans. This is the only way. You can save me. You can make things right. You can be forgiven. But you must accept a small piece of this Chaos so that I can be free."

The voice was broken, pleading, and desperate.

And seeped with Chaos.

Quote:
The Code cannot be purged of Chaos with traditional purification, but it seems that there is a way to save it from the Chaos! …But do you risk it? Apparently the Code can be saved by siphoning a small bit of Chaos to the Knights there. A small, manageable bit of Chaos, that each Knight must accept into themselves. You can resist…but what happens to the Code if you do?

All Knights have the option to accept a small bit of Chaos into themselves in order to save the Code; this will affect them for the next few weeks, however it is ultimately harmless and will fade on its own (though your character might not know this!) Effects can last up to a month depending on the character and their resilience to Chaos as well as their active attempts to purge themselves of it. The Chaos will fade on its own via the starseeds ability to heal, but it may fade quicker if the Knight spends time on their homeworld. The side effects are generally up to the player in terms of severity and can affect both while powered and unpowered; effects may include lethargy, mood swings (and increased anger), increased susceptibility to Chaotic influence (they may be more prone to corruption), difficulties using magic or powering up, and decreased morality. Your character is not corrupted and will not have an altered energy signature, but will have a sort of 'chaos sickness'! A royal or transcended may be able to aid in the healing, but because this is not a natural corruption it simply decreases the strength of symptoms for a limited time.

If your Knight is a purified Negaverse officer, they may be a bit more susceptible to the Chaos and have some additional side effects—they may occasionally hear whispers in the back of their mind, see the reflection of their Negaverse Uniform, or have quick, spontaneous flashes of a memory from their time in the Negaverse (no dialogue, only a flickering picture, usually meant to haunt them).

Hyperborea, Transcendent knight of Cosmos

Even without an explanation Hyperborea was able to piece together what was happening, the code was corrupted and Camelot was going to try and purify it.

She watched as Camelot placed his crystal sword into the code piece and it failed. The pulse of air that erupted from the code didn't hurt but it did make her cloak flutter about wildly.

She heard the voice in her head explain what needed to happen. She didn't need any time to think about. If her taking a part of chaos into herself would help the code then she would do so without hesitation. She wanted to believe she had been given her powers for a higher purpose and maybe this was it, even if something terrible happened to her it was for the greater good so she didn't care.

So the transcended knight of cosmos stepped forward toward the code piece. "I'll accept part of your corruption if it means the code can be free of chaos." she said resolutely.

Baikal, page of Mercury

What followed was disappointing, but ultimately not as surprising as it could have been. Even as he pushed for it, Baikal knew that simply purifying the thing was probably a long shot, no matter how logical the idea seemed. Did anything ever turn out so smoothly? Life had taught him otherwise.

So it wasn't a surprise when nothing happened. It was, however, when he heard the voice speaking directly into his mind. That was a new one, even after everything else the page had experienced over the last half a year. He tensed, body taking a reflexive step with the wind, but then quickly stilled, listening. A slight frown playing on pale features.

In the end, it really wasn't that hard of a choice. Baikal didn't believe chaos was evil, so why wouldn't he accept of piece of it into himself? Especially if that acceptance could aid in something larger as well. It wasn't a sacrifice to him, wasn't something to be apprehensive or nervous about. It was just a choice.

Celsus Knight of Chronos

He had remained silent throughout the majority of the interactions so far; though Celsus's gaze did move to rest upon Chris for another moment, feeling the flush of shame throughout his cheeks again. Beside him, Emrys shifted nervously, white gloved fingers tensing around the staff he held.

The shockwave coursed through the air, rifling his cape, which fluttered back down against his legs a moment later. Celsus had remained standing where he was, though a hand reached out and found his brother's arm, gripping it tightly for a moment.

The Code was inside of his mind, jarring him; it felt unpleasant, terrible, a pressing reminder of what he had already gone through, the mocking, taunting voice inside of his head that twisted and contorted his emotions into blackness. Celsus saw, for a moment, the Code at his Wonder, laughingly telling him that he had been a mistake, that it had all been worthless.

His hand rose, pressed against his throat where the Oath mark lay imprinted upon his skin, glowing softly. He caught Emrys' eye and the worried expression, and the haze of emotions seemed to ebb a little out, Celsus giving his brother's wrist a little squeeze of reassurance.

They could ease the Code - they could help. They - the Knights, all of them together - could do something, and Celsus felt a wave of mingled agitation and fear and relief all at once, tangling together. He had felt so inadequate and so useless for so long, and now -

Now they could actually do something. And really, in the end, the decision was not so hard, even if it was nervewracking.

The idea of his brother taking on Chaos once more, however, was almost dizzying. Hitch would kill him if anything happened, but Celsus couldn't stop him from trying, if he wanted it. He cast a look at Emrys, then back at the Code, and the rest of the knights gathered and took a step forward.

Someone had come forward already, and Celsus gave her a small smile before looking back at the Code as well.

"I will also accept part of the Corruption," he said quietly, ducking in a small bow towards it.

Falias, Knight of Earth

Falias had watched as Camelot stepped forwards towards the Code with a crystal sword in hand.

He couldn't help but feel a sense of unease slip down his spine as the Code spoke up as the older Earth knight lifted the blade and brought it towards it, although he hoped that it was just the chaos - hoped that what the Royal Knight was doing would help...

It didn't. In fact, truth be told nothing happened - at least not at first.

It was only belatedly that Falias realised that actually something was happening as the swirls of tainted chaos started to swirl across to where the point of the sword touched the Code, the dark swirls roiling almost like a storm.

It was followed by a blast of air and for all that Falias had never seen a purification happen even he could tell that something was wrong and that this probably wasn't something that was supposed to happen - especially since the chaos was still swirling frantically around the code in an almost but not storm.

And then he heard the voice...

Only a whisper, but for all that the words were clear as the voice spoke of what needed to be done.

And perhaps it was a trap, perhaps it was more machinations from the chaos but something about the broken pleading resonated.

"I'll accept" he said and his voice was quiet and solemn. "If by accepting I can help make things right then all right I accept."

A part of him was terrified as he wondered what accepting would do, however he didn't try to fight it as the air pushed at his chest but instead kept his eyes trained on the Code piece.

It sounded like a gamble, but so had been calling on Camelot, but it was a risk that made sense. Knights for knight business... and if it could, in fact be purified...

... Well he'd had chaos forced on him before, in Schorl's tender mercies... how bad could it be right? And if they were right...

He wouldn't be here if someone hadn't taken the chance on trying to make it happen, and he knew he wasn't the only one. Even if he'd been so inclined in the first place now wasn't the time he cared to give up on his philosophy of offering the chance, sentimental as it might appear. Sentiment was a false memory, but he'd seen rewards, however few.

He had to take this chance; if only to stand by his beliefs.

"I'm in."
