Astronomy? Stars? Really? In Below? That didn't seem like such a good idea. Below was just too dark. Oriset had been outside--it was hard to see the stars at night! She couldn't even see the really bright ones! But ugh, okay, apparently they were going to talk about astronomy. About types of stars and the age of stars and really, who cared. The only stars Oriset cared about were the ones on stage.
Oh well. Do well in school, go to a good college, become a famous set designer. That was the goal, and science class was just another [stupid, pointless] step on that road. She paid attention as best she could and turned in her homework before looking for something more interesting to think about.

As he sat in his chair in the new seating arrangement -- even if it was just for today's assignment -- Zeke found himself quite pleased. He felt quite on top of the world, or the classroom at least for the time being. But darn... As the class had started talking about facts and plants, someone had mentioned bug-eating plants. Oh well! He did have something else in mind.
When his turn came, he started. "Buttercups are actually not an innocent plant. They can be used in medicines and stuff, but they are actually poisonous." pausing for a moment, he gave some thought before saying something again "but I think it's only when they are eaten fresh like and whatnot." Tilting his head some, while giving it a little thought, he confessed his favorite flower. "I like roses. Even if people go gah gah and romance-y with them, i think they have a strong presence and feel." And with that, he felt satisfied with his presentation.

The sleepy Mai Tai didn't really give much thought to things as she took her turn in class, but not without yawning first. "Onions release a gas that stings your eyes when they are cut open. It's like a belated 'take that' for chopping them up." She yawned once again and rubbed her eyes with the sleeve of her sweater. "I like the shy plant... if you touch it, the leaves curl up." There was a small smile on her face as she thought about how the plant reacted to touch. But it didn't take long for her to lay her head down on her arms. "So sleepy..."

Freddy grinned broadly when it was his turn to answer. He had this one in the bag! He loved plants, and had a few growing in pots in his room. It was nice, like having a piece of outdoors he could carry around. His tendrils swirled around in excitement as he stood up. "Some trees can be grown specially to be super small. They're called bonsai. You have to use special pots and they require lots of attention, but they're only about this big-," he used his hands to demonstrate the size, "-so you can keep them in your house! Some are shaped special for magic, and some can even grow fruit!" Freddy's eyes shone with enthusiasm and he had to stop himself from going on. He wasn't skilled enough to try growing anything like that on his own yet, but the thought of tiny fruit trees was very appealing. "My favorite plants are fruit trees, especially tangerines," he continued. "Trees are fun to climb and super useful, and fruit trees make tasty food!" Ah man, now he wanted some tangerines! Freddy took his seat, hoping there would be some kind of fruit dessert for lunch today.

Wayne waited for his turn and when it came, the imp got up. "My favorite plant is grass," he said, uncaring that some of his classmates might find it boring. "Because grass grows from their bottoms instead of their tips. That's why they still grow fast even when you cut 'em up or mow 'em. They keep on surviving and are real tough." He liked their resiliency and respected the way they survived. "Also they look real neat and smell real nice after it rains."

Science was always his favorite class and while Plants weren’t his favorite topic, they were still pretty cool. The only hard part was trying to figure out what facts he wanted to share, there were so many of them. In fact a better question was what was his favorite plant? Well he could go with trees or ferns or find some sort of flower. However he’d be here all day and it was his turn to share his fact and favorite plant next.
“Ferns were the first planet species to develop a circulatory system that allows them to grow larger. However my favorite plant has to be the strawberry because not only can it be used for so many things but it’s also pretty fun to eat."

Science wasn’t his best subject layren was more of the magic study or at least he wanted to have a job in the future having to do with magic obviously as young as he was it was more theory and stuff anyways. Still he did know some things about plants, which was probably a good thing considering it was now his turn to speak. “My favorite fact about plants is probably that when some plants are being eaten by caterpillars, they send chemical signals to parasitic wasps who them come and attack the caterpillars. My favorite plant is the guava. I like how tasty it is and how many things you can use it for. “

Xochi blinked at the worksheet. There were more classifications that slots listed. Biting back a sigh, she carefully wrote down what she thought was the right answer and turned in the sheet.

This class was one that Ash actually enjoyed, though part of it was because she could sit by her sister. The sister who wanted to study plants when she was older at that! Everyone had such a cool fact though and her tail swung as she pondered her fact. "Sometimes tree sap can fossilize and trap other bits of plants or even bugs! I know it's kind of like a fossil fact, but I think it's really cool that plant sap can preserve things liket that!"
"Otherwise, I like mint, especially peppermint. It smells really good and mama puts it on my head to get rid of headaches."

Yes yes yes! Anstice nearly bounced in her seat. She loved talking about plants, they were her favorite thing in the world, well, other than her mother and sister. She nodded as her sister shared her fact, smiling as the attention went onto her. "Poison Ivy has a skin irritant that causes allergic reactions, but some people are less susceptible to the rashes or just not allergic and can walk right through it."
"My favorite plant is the aloe plant. They're really good for first aid, especially burns, plus they're hardy, so my sister can't kill mine!" The following grumble made the little fey smile, she really enjoyed this class!

Ember-babe Plants? Why did they gotta talk about plants? Rhys didn't really know anything about plants. His mom had one once. Once. Rhys had manhandled the poor thing and sliced it up with his sharp claws, and when he giggled instead of feeling sorry and apologetic, his mom got very cross with him. "Uh ... I don't really care about plants. I mean. I like trees! Does that count? Cuz if so, I love climbing trees! Especially those ones that have a lot of thick branches so you can climb all the way to the top before jumping off! I love trees ... "The teacher frowned. "Climbing trees is fun, but can you name an actual fact about plants?"

Midnightglow18 Jonah thought about the question, and then said "I'm familiar with some of the plants of the bellow, and I've read about some of the plants of the above. "I like the herbs, that don't require much light. That do well in our world, I hope some day I can learn to use them to help others, making new medicines." Jonah was a little shy, feeling like he was actually talking to the class, set facing the other students, not just looking at the teacher. The teacher had to think about Caron's answer--had she technically fulfilled the assignment? She'd mentioned that berries could be eaten off the bush. That counted. However, Jonah was next, and he didn't answer the question. "Jonah, what's your favorite fact about plants?" she asked him gently.

CLASS CLOSED, GRADING IN PROGRESS Starting with Freshlings. The following students have all passed freshling science: The teacher hid a smile. "Does the bat orchid count as black, Matilda?" she asked. "It's pretty dark!"The teacher giggled. She couldn't help it! "I like your answer, Essei," she murmured. "Both the aloe and your flower."Oh...right...one of her colleagues's children was in this class. Er, too. She made a note of it in her notebook, alongside a note about Ella's apparent introversion... Kelp...was not... technically a plant. But the teacher had to quickly weigh her options--take time to correct her now, or correct her later if it became important? It pained her to do it, but she had to put the class above the individual student. She'd just have to correct Lillian later. For now, it would do for an answer. The teacher frowned. Technically, Wayne hadn't mentioned any explicit fact...but he had implied that most plants grew from the top, which was a fact...she decided to let it slide. Nasaiki Hermes, Layren. Please post your character's names somewhere in the post next time xP Thanks! "The fun thing about fossils is that facts about them count both as facts about living things and facts about rocks," the teacher said. "But that's a subject for another day, I promise."The following students have not passed freshling science:Neither student stated a favorite fact about plants. You may edit your posts or make new ones that address the concern--you have until I finish grading the seniors to do this. If you don't complete it by then, you'll have to enter them in freshling science some other time.
