 Elin DeraWhat am I missing?
"It was cold." It was no accident that it was cold, either. Elin was hoping the abrasive feeling would help awaken her more. "I've slowed down. I better not be downwind of any smoke or bad smells, or they'll cling to the moisture like horse s**t on the bottom of a soldier's boot." Her sense of humor seemed to be intact, too.
"Hai, hai. Onward and outward. Remind me to piss off whoever's in charge of you. I need the exercise." She paused, looking at the shirt still in her arms. "...what should I do with this?"

Wren chuckled, turning her attention to the redhead. "I'll stay behind you so you don't die of secondhand," she smirked, placing the cigarette between her lips and getting up, bag in tow.
She stood up and grabbed the sweater from Elin and set it on the table. "M'gonna run by another day to get the rest of my clothes so I don't have to lug anything around," she led the other toward the back door, yanking it open this time, aware of the rusty condition of the hinges.
As they stepped outside again, Wren realized that the sun was fully overhead now, shining ruthlessly. "Must be about noon, judging by the heat," she murmured around the cigarette, pulling the door shut behind Elin. "Lets get to HQ and get this mess done with."

Elin DeraWhat am I missing?
By the time Wren had closed the door, Elin was already a couple yards away. "Then let's get moving, haah?" She looked over her shoulder before continuing on her way. "Not every day a lieutenant quits. Well-respected ones, anyways." There was certainly more life in the soon-to-be ex-lieutenant than before. Perhaps she'd get a haircut to celebrate, or something more devious.

Wren hesitated on the porch to strike a match on the railing as she had earlier that day, lighting her cigarette and tossing the spent matchstick beneath the steps.
"I'm sure the entirety of the MP's higher ups will be lost without you, Ms, Dera." Wren giggled. She could get used to picking on Elin's official standing. "The Legion will be lucky to have you on our side." She winked, catching up with the other girl but keeping diagonal to her so the smoke wouldn't reach her.
"In all seriousness, though," her tone changed a bit as she spoke around her cigarette. "There aren't enough people with determination around the barracks anymore," she said, smoke billowing out with her words.

"How many of those asswipes do you think do paperwork, haaah?" Elin tilted her head back toward Wren with a dark expression. "I didn't go through all the trouble I did over the past seven years to be called 'miss'." Even though she wasn't seriously anger, there was a very strong rage vibe waving around her.
Elin exhaled, looking forward. "They worked their butts off to be the best, so they could live in a safer world of luxury. But you need to think to live. They live...but to be alive, that's different." Her eyes narrowed. "Then again, hanging around heretics during training may have blurred my perception of the world."

Wren absorbed what Elin was saying, walking a bit closer to hear her clearly. "Ah, living and being alive certainly are different," she paused to let the other finish talking, occupying herself with her smoke. "And perception is far different than reality, no matter who you may be."
She slid her free hand into her pocket, feeling something cold. "Oh, I almost forgot.." she pulled Elin's necklace out and stopped to untangle the chain for a moment. "I think this fell off when you were asleep. Found it on the bed while I was digging around." She caught up a bit to hold it out to her, single wing charm dangling against the side of her hand.

Elin nodded in agreement, seeming relaxed until she laid eyes on the silvery wing. "My...necklace..." She reached out to take it. She would slip it right back onto her neck once she'd gotten it. "That usually never happens..." The ginger looked to the ground. "Maybe it's a sign." There was a pause. "That is, if I believed in such things..."

Wren shook her head, pulling the item back and situating herself behind the shorter girl to reach around her with the necklace, carefully clasping it as to not accidentally get it tangled in her hair. "Ah, well aren't you lucky I've got the eyes of a hawk," she sniggered at herself, lining up the clasp so that it was in the middle before stepping back and taking a thoughtful drag from her cigarette.
"Signs, eh? I figured it was a sign the moment we met," she replied, hand returned to its place in her pocket. "That I had been spending way too much time on my own, anyway."

Elin blushed as her companion put the necklace on. No one had done that since, well, she couldn't remember when. Wren made the sweetest gestures, at times. Like hell she was gonna tell the brunette, though. "Yeah, sure...Hopefully I won't be needing those hawk eyes for this again."
She turned her head to look back and up at the taller woman. "Being alone is kind of terrible. Can't be helped with a prickly personality..." Elin referred to herself, but it could go to either of them.

Wren laughed a little, moving up to the side of the girl after watching which way the wind carried the smoke so that it still wouldn't effect her. "I'm sure you've got your own set of useful senses to rely on, eh? Super hearing or something like that? Officers seem to be good at that one," she glanced over and smiled, but wasn't really being sarcastic. She was sure Elin was well practiced in taking in her surroundings.
The brunette paused to take another drag from her cigarette as Elin spoke again and laughed afterwards at her comment. "That's true, but which one of us are you referring to?" She chuckled.

"Well, superior hearing came from before my trainee days. Many of my skills did. Hopefully you won't have to see most of them." She exhaled, fingers mindlessly turning the wing around her neck, feeling every bit of it. "I'm flattered that you think it's close when it comes to being prickly."

Wren kicked a stray rock as she walked, one hand still in her pocket. "In the underground, you mean?" She hoped she wasn't prying, and quieted herself with her cigarette. Thinking over her own strengths for a moment, she figured Elin would be exposed to all of them at some point in time.
"Well, anyway, most of my abilities are just part of being a Scout. I've been climbing since I was a kid though, so that's my own. Like I said before, I'm useless on the ground." She glanced over her tattoo as she brought her hand up to take another drag, pausing before doing so to examine it as she spoke.

The ginger-haired girl looked at the tattoo. "The way you keep looking at that...is it new? I always figured I'd end up with one from the underground. Down there...you learn lots of things. Law here is much different from what is considered law down there. Sure, if you get into too much trouble, some of the Military Police soldiers will make chase, but it's really a matter of surviving. If you're not strong enough, you need to make alliances with people you'd never expect to...ah, what am I, fifty? I'm too young to reminisce like that." Her lips curved up slightly, in a sad sort of way. "Not a good way to repay you, by flapping my gums. You've done plenty to be useful on the ground so far."
OoC: So I'm gonna go for over an hour at least, buuut i'lllll try to think of my rep for meeting up with the non-existent captain. At least the scout captain lives.

Wren kept her eyes on her arm, walking a bit slower now. "Ah, no," she paused, taking a deep breath. "I got it when I was a trainee, along with my other squad members. They were all younger than I was, but we got on well." Her throat felt a little tight. "I'm the only one still-" she sighed.
"In our third expedition I got separated from the group in the dark by accident and ended up regrouping with the next flank. When we returned, they were nowhere to be found." She looked the other way and drew deeply from her cigarette, blowing it in the direction opposite of Elin before continuing. "But hey, look at us flapping our gums. We're alive, right?" She offered a smile that mirrored the authenticity of Elin's.
Without really noticing, they had walked quite a ways, she noted as she looked over their surroundings.

Her pupils shrunk slightly as she head Wren falter, taking a sharp breath. "..." Elin swallowed the lump in her throat. "Hey, I haven't left yet. Not too late to change my mind.~" The ginger grinned crookedly and sped on toward the captain's area. Anyone that gave them a hard time, she stood down and glared at, forcing them to salute the two of them, then sending them out for laps and paperwork duties, along with other jobs that she knew would have to be done by someone else, soon.
