Alyx and Rota dispatched one of the mini-beetles, and when it turned red it actually shattered like it was supposed to. So they just had to kill these three beetles six times, and they would be clear to go to the next room. Unless it was random whether or not the monsters split. Which would be absolutely awful. If they had to kill these things nine or twelve times, this would take much longer than they expected. The good news, though, seemed to be that Rota could pretty much axe one in a single attack, so maybe this wouldn't take all day after all. All they had to do was keep up with the pace they'd set, and they'd be done in just a few minutes. As long as none of these things stand back up. Oh, God. Can they stand up again? Oh God please no. Alyx grit his teeth and swung a regular attack at the remaining mini-beetle, hoping to get the little ones out of the way before they had to deal with the bigger ones again, and pick up some momentum while he was at it.

Rota watched the first mini beetle die, and when it itself did not split he breathed a sigh of relief. It meant there was a limit to how many times they could split. once was that limit. He was a lot more fine with that now. It was still a sack of s**t, but it was a bit more manageable on those terms. He Aimed his sword at the last mini beetle left, making sure that it would not survive this assault before moving on to the bigger ones.

Alyx weakened the mini-beetle, and Rota hammered through the crack in its armor, obliterating it completely. That was one whole family tree of beetles down. On to the next one. Alyx decided to skip one in the line, since the second beetle appeared to be attempting to run away. He wouldn't be the first person to chase the little b*****d. Let it go if it wanted to leave. He needed three more monsters to fight like this next beetle needed this hole in its head. But it was going to get one, so he figured that if he got another beetle to fight, it was pretty par for the course: this dungeon didn't seem intent on giving anyone what they wanted. Alyx charged his blade with as much lethal intent as he could muster, and readied his most powerful thrust.

Now that the first beetle had been completely killed now, He turned his attention to the next one, it seemed to be trying to run away, but if his experience with Boars taught him anything it was that that was rarely the case. They never truly ran away. His sword glowed black as he slashed at the Beetle, the afterimage following close behind. He was going to make sure it died. It would make this fight easier in the long run.

Alyx dealt a paltry amount of damage to the beetle he was facing as it turned to run away, and Rota obliterated the other one. Much the same as the other dead beetle, though, this one still had some life left in it. Enough for at least two other beetles, anyway. Alyx groaned inwardly as the two smaller beetles materialized. They were almost halfway there, though, and Rota was cutting through these things at a speed that could only be described as utterly broken. Alyx, even with all his grinding, could not match that sword that Rota was swinging. He needed to work harder. Getting to the second floor would let that happen. Higher level mobs, that he could actually gain experience from. That's what he needed. His mouth watered as his jaw set. He was filled with DETERMINATION. He charged another attack, this time going with a full strength double strike.

Rota had utterly decimated the Beetle he had struck. These things not be as difficult to kill as Alyx was letting on. The mighty demon blade Neo Abyssian could cut through any foe, no matter how fierce. Untold power was in his hands, and it felt so right. Rota's blade glowed black again, and he tossed it into the air, spinning horizontally. He trained his eyes on the beetle that Alyx was fighting as an endpoint as he caught his blade over his left shoulder again and pivot stepped to his right. He didn't hit any beetles until he began to step towards the normal beetle at which point he tried to cleave through the smaller beetles on his way to the large one, ending with his right foot planted as he was hunched over and his sword shouldered once again.

Alyx made sure to step out of the way as Rota primed his new attack. An area of effect attack like that had a lot of potential. Alyx envied it, but he figured that he could just work on his single target direct damage and be happy. He was supposed to be a tank, anyway. He needed to be able to handle the biggest mob in the room; not necessarily kill it. That was the party's job. Rota's job, in this case. Which meant that Alyx was really the auxiliary member in this instance. He didn't need to take the hits from these mobs, so it wasn't really necessary for him to block. Although, if he practiced now, he might manage to get good enough to have an actual defense. He decided that he would switch over to defense. Rota was more than handling the killing. Alyx just couldn't keep up. He might as well use this time to practice.

He hadn't killed any of the beetles with that strike...disappointing. Maybe he needed to look at it from a different perspective. It was more meant to take a chunk out of everyone instead of be a vortex of decimation. Armed with this mentality, he struck at the first of the beetle spawn he had wounded. The larger beetle wasn't a true threat right now, and even if it was he could withstand a few blows right now. He needed to build up his stamina a bit more, so using his auras wasn't an option right now. His normal strikes were sufficient though.

Alyx caught the beetle on his shield and held it there. It was a massive amount of insect to be holding up, to be sure, but he was managing it easily. This new shield was balanced wonderfully. Alyx realized now that he hadn't even used it since Rota had given it to him. What was the point of having a shield if you never used it? He was definitely going to remedy that, though. His defense was strong enough to catch these attacks, and Rota's offense was strong enough to eradicate these mobs, so he'd only bother attacking if there was nothing else to do. It would work itself out as long as they kept to that pattern. Alyx had to resist these urges to be DPS. He was too far into his spec to change now. As luck would have it, though, the beetles were turning tail. So he raised his sword and aimed a thrust at the beetle he'd been working on.

The first twin of the former beetle had fallen. it was time for its twin to do the same, but it seemed like both of the opponents were trying to take their leave. He couldn't have that now. He drew his sword past his left shoulder and it wreathed itself in black light. He focused on the last whole beetle as an endpoint again and did his clockwise pivot step again and tried to see if he could finish off both creatures before they fled this room.

Alyx' strike didn't quite kill the big beetle, but Rota's strike certainly did its job to Alyx' work in progress. They were finally on the home stretch. One last mini-beetle, and then possibly two more after that, and they'd be done. Or at least done with this room. Then they would be on to the next room, which would probably be filled with hydras and rust monsters, if the previous rooms were anything to go by. This dungeon was getting to the point of ridiculousness. Although, Alyx could see why it's considered the height of the first floor. Not having a party here could be very, very bad. If a single person got outnumbered here, things could go horribly wrong. Alyx' fears for another set of beetles were confirmed when the one Rota killed split into two, leaving just three small beetles.

Now that he had successfully killed something with spin, He needed to focus on just killing these Beetles in general. Alyx seemed to be going for the second of the two beetles from the second big beetle, so he switched to the first of the two beetles from the third big beetle. His sword glowed Black again, and as he swung the aura became an afterimage again, coming ever closer to his insectoid opponent.
