Was it safe for them to visit her home, she wondered. She hadn't known what they had wanted before, and now that she had realized, she wasn't sure she was comfortable. "When will you go see the Kelpie?" she asked. "How long will you stay here?" Did they have time to look around town? Maybe go into the shops? Take a ferry? "We don't have to go right away, do we?"

"The assignment was allotted a week to begin with," Dari responded. "We should return in shorter time, but I see no reason to rush home." He turned to Toby as if for reassurance.
"We could likely stay three more days, considering the kelpie. When is he most active, or is he indiscriminate?"

Three more days, that was plenty of time. She rewarded the agents with a small smile before considering Toby's question. "Afternoon, I think. I'm guessing though, because that's around the time children show up at the water here." She assumed it was the same for the lake. "When I saw him, I got him to come out after I insulted him. He's fairly small. I don't think he'd be strong enough to drown you." But there was still that worry. She didn't want either of them getting hurt.
"You really won't let me come?"

Arriving in the afternoon while the most innocent civilians were around didn't seem like the greatest idea. The phrase 'mass hysteria' came to mind as Toby considered their options. They could also just head out to find him now, it wasn't so late that a young kelpie might not be awake, and certainly loud expletives could draw him out of his hidey-hole. The two agents exchanged glances, and finally Toby turned to Maia again.
"I think it would be safest if you stay here, but if you aren't comfortable being alone then you can join us. You'd have to keep out of harm's way, though, and quiet."

It was strange, almost, to witness silent conversation. She figured the boys had known each other so long that they didn't need to speak to know what the other was thinking. Maia fought a smile: it was nice to see two people so close. "I'll go," She decided. "I'll stay out of the way."
She looked to Dari. "You really can't drown?"

Dari nodded. "I truly cannot drown," he reassured her. Hell, there were many ways to die his people were never privy too, but explosive shrapnel could do him in, or any excessive amount of penetrative strikes. Of course this meant he was going to be the one wrestling with the kelpie, but he was used to such tasks. The harder you were to kill, the closer you got to the enemy.
Toby sighed thoughtfully. It would be nice to get this out of the way, but really he just wanted to get into his pajamas and crawl into bed. "What do you say? Should we go confront him after pizza?"

Maia was relieved. She'd figured Dari would be the one dealing with the kelpie, with the hints Toby had made earlier. "Good. You'll be safe then. Do you need anything to catch a Kelpie?" they hadn't needed anything special to catch her: but She imagined catching an unseelie was vastly dangerous. "We could take him a piece of pizza. Maybe bribing him will work?"
With that suggestion, she finished her slice and added, "Lets go!"

"Mm, not a bad idea," Toby offered with a shrug, finishing off his slice and standing to wipe his hands on his pants. Food tended to be the best possible bait when it came to any sort of supernatural entity, save the ones that lacked stomachs. Both men began to putter around the room, collecting this and that from various bags. Toby tucked a gun into the top of his pants and pulled his shirt down over it then returned to grab the pizza. Dari had taken a knife and slid it onto a sleeve, keeping a hold of it with pressurized flesh, and then went to color his face again and pulled on his hat and glasses.
Toby nodded for Maia to join them once the preparations were complete.
"Come on, let's go get this over with. Should we walk or drive?"

"Drive," Maia said, firmly. It was a bit far to walk, and she didn't want to be seen. It might be considered suspicious, going to the lake at night. "Its about a mile or two. I'll tell you when to turn." She didn't like cars, they polluted the air and made loud noises. But safety was probably worth one ride in the car.
She studied Toby. "Don't hurt him unless you have to," She instructed.

"That'd be protocol," Toby said with a smile. There were times when you wanted to brain someone with the butt of your gun, but you didn't. Self-control had been a large portion of his training as a young man and played deeply into his current profession. You didn't kill unless you absolutely had to, unless there was no other option. When you were in mortal danger, fine, but not before. That didn't mean it was smart to approach anything generally malevolent unarmed.
The trio left the hotel in silence, at least until they were out of the lobby and well on their way to the car. Both agents packed their badges, just in case the lake had some sort of nigh watchman.
"You'll go down with it?" Toby asked.
Dari nodded. "Of course." There wasn't really a question. He was the only one of them that didn't have to breathe and who knew how deep the lake was or how far he could be dragged. He was always the bait, and that was fine. So long as nothing tore huge chunks of him out they would be in good shape.
Their car was an older version of a model meant to not attract attention, black but a bit dingy as rental cars went. Toby went to slip into the driver's seat and then turned to Maia, remembering that minutes ago she hadn't even known was a pizza was. Dari got into the passenger's seat and Toby returned to the selkie, opening the back door for her. "Are you going to be alright?"

Maia looked at him. She wasn't surprised by the question, and responded with a hesitant, "I think so." She'd never been in a car before, but this was out of necessity. She got into the car. "Do you think the kelpie will be asleep?" maybe it'd be easier to catch him that way. And he wouldn't be able to hurt Toby.

"He could be," Toby said with a nod, "but then it might be harder to find him." He closed the door and went around to the driver's seat, starting the car up with a loud rumble. The engine caught and they were off, although not in the way some might expect a federal search to begin. They obeyed speed limits and road signs to not draw any attention from law enforcement or otherwise. Dari turned back in his seat to see Maia after a few minutes, smiling. Was she doing alright?

This was an entirely new experience for Maia, and frankly she was a bit disappointed. It wasn't as terrifying as she'd thought It would be. It was a seat that moved, not remotely exciting unless you didn't know where you were going.
"Its different than I expected," She admitted, when Dari turned. "Are you nervous about meeting the kelpie?"

Maia made a face. She wanted to offer to help, she couldn't drown and she was quick in the water. She crossed her arms, but nodded showing She agreed. "Fine," she said. "Try to lure him out first, less dangerous in the water."
She glanced over at Toby. "I have a feeling you're better at luring them out, though."
