"Wow you mean not everythin' I listen to is s**t? You don't say," she snarked back, using his conversation distraction to dig a knuckle in his side gently. "Wasn't any reason. I just like that song." Chel didn't usually have ulterior motives. Her methods were straightforward. Less confusion for everyone.
She just let the next song on the list play, an average six or so minute song. She traced along each of his veins, scars and marks to keep her hands busy, trying not to take Jack's hand going through her hair as anything more than a mechanical motion. It was inevitable then that Abbi started running through her head.
"You gonna take me on more dates?" she questioned.

The motion had slowly evolved, from little movements to hair teasing, any knots worked out gradually. It didn't stop as he asked, "Like demon children laser tag? I didn't plan that, you did."

"I did." He gave her hair a small tug. "Christ. Hot threesome action was my last idea, but we got off track if you don't remember. You still up for something like that?"

She let out a small reactionary noise to her hair being tugged, but not one of pain. After she rubbed her head and said, "Course I am. You're the one that distracted last time. S'yer fault."
She took a long breath out of her nose. "But I mean like- I dunno, more couple stuff." Nothing ventured nothing gained. Chel didn't have time to be nervous. She digested stomach butterflies. "Kinda want something less based in bed for once. Shockin' I know."

"Terribly sorry." Not sorry at all.
His movements slowed when Chel clarified. "More couple stuff," he repeated slowly, letting the words hang in the air for a while before continuing. "Contacts count as a date? Couldn't get time in before this mission."

"Contacts count as us goin' to buy you s**t- that ain't romantic what the ********." It might have sounded harsh but there was amusement in the way her lips curved and the snort of disbelief that came afterwards.
She pulled his chin down enough to look at her. "Maybe yer ********' with me, but I mean like a real date. Boyfriend girlfriend Jackles." At least she wasn't nervous. More definitively she said, "We'll go after your mission." Because he was coming back from that. In Chel's mind he'd promised.

He was messing with her: that much was evident by the way he looked at her when she said romantic and boyfriend girlfriend, with what actual emotion he had displayed retreating behind something defensive. Jack popped the earbud out before the song finished and moved to sit up, suddenly needing space despite his prior impulse for closeness.
"We'll talk after the mission," he emphasized.

"I'll take it," Chel rebutted. Even as Jack ebbed away, she kept him in her sight and didn't back down. Certainly she'd worked with much less before. "China was just talkin' too," she reminded him, mouth twitching in a half smile.
She swung the headphone he'd pulled out and said, "Three songs. I ain't gonna bite or give you gaga eyes, promise."

"That was supposed to be the third song," he argued, still sitting up. He didn't want to remember China right now, not on top of this unspoken topic and the mission, and Jack resented her for bringing it up with that stupid little smile.
Making a face, he snatched the earbud back. "Make your choice." Maybe giving her this would stop any more talking about s**t he didn't feel like sifting through.

Chel compensated by switching the song to something low and mellow, with a soft guitar that almost mimicked the way Jack picked at dear Barbara.
"Yer the one that ended the song early," she said, almost affection in her tone had it not been covered in amusement. As she spoke she sat up and wrestled Jack's finicky nature until she was laying on his frontside with her ear on his shoulder and her nose tucked under his head. "S'not as pretty as when you play, but it's three minutes so you'll get out here faster," she told him, like he was banking on the numerical data.

All parts of him resented being coerced into the position, and then mixed parts were annoyed that the song was (only) three minutes long, annoyed he had made it clear he was leaving, annoyed that he needed to stick to that decision or lose face, and more annoyed than all of that combined that it had literally complicated itself to that point as everything did in his damn life when he thought too much about it. "You're the one bringing up stupid s**t," he retorted as she got cozy, refusing to soften in turn for the sake of his pride. The song choice did appease him somewhat, though. He started to him along after a while.

She could at least tell Abbi that she'd tried. Chel spent the three minutes considering the merits of dropping the issue altogether, and weighing them against the merits of continuing. Her evaluation resulted in no decision being made and it had become even more annoying than it had been before she'd brought it up. She was at least glad to have had pinpointed the feeling that had made her sour all week, the same feeling that had her leaning in closer when Jack began to hum because it was such a nice sound.
But that just meant that the waiting that would come after this song would be agony. Busy schedules, Jack going on a mission he might not come back from (he would come back from)- it was going to be a long few weeks of waiting. Chel despised patience.
< The song has ended. >
Chel blinked a few times, not having realized that the song had changed at all. In a motion too casual she stretched herself out and yawned, falling back onto Jack with exhaustion. It took a second try to actually get herself to move off of him, and when she did the lack of warmth was bothersome.
"Well s'not like I want you to go but somebody has big important lifer things to do," she said, unplugging the headphones from the audio input and wrapping them around one of two of her fingers to keep it evenly rolled up. "Sure you can't just say ******** off and ditch it? I think I got the hang of that wii tennis game finally."

He continued to lie there as she unravelled herself, reading something in the blank ceiling of his room. Then he rolled over and plucked Owain's totem off the ground to put back on. The giant was docile this time, more gentle in his suggestions; Jack couldn't quite tell if the time out had honestly straightened him out or if Owain was just placating him for the time being.
"A check on my labs, a brisk walk to work out the coffee," he replied as he swung his legs over the edge of the bed and stood up. "If you're still awake after all that, the wii sounds fun." Incredibly stupid and in constant need of calibration because runics weren't always completely successful let alone with motion sensors, but strangely fun. The compromise was yet another way to show control (that he still set boundaries) and leniency (that it was only his choice to bend them).
"Glasses, please." He didn't stand there waiting and went in search of his usual hair band.

Chel looked a smidge too eager when Jack agreed to something as simple as a wii, her metaphorical tail wagging. "I'll stay awake," she insisted.
The glasses were grabbed but not before she held them in front of her own eyes like she was going to put them on. "Yer so blind."
