"That's only if you run with scissors," said Chance airily, waving a hand as he took a sip of his coffee. "Running in the infirmary is totally fine as long as you don't run with anything sharp or pointy, right?"

He gave Oliver what was clearly meant to be a winning smile which settled into a slightly amused one at the question.

"Got beat up by a reaper with bad taste in hair," he answered, his tone light. "Let's just say I wasn't really paying enough attention to where I was going."

He liked her easy way of showing emotions; emotions that Chance admittedly did not share most of the time, which was probably why he found them both enjoyable and entertaining.

"I don't think I've met a Seiji yet," said Chance, casting a sideways glance at the person that Felicia was indicating. His eyebrows rose a little, and then he looked back as she gestured towards himself, amusement growing in his own expression. "But I am flattered by the inclusion in this theory, thank you."

He smiled at her. "There are a few angry ones I've met that could fit that description," Chance said with a laugh. "I think you might have something here."

"I cooked a lot for myself when I lived alone," said Chance. "I don't have any siblings - at least, none that I know of - so most of the food just went to me, or whoever was over at the time, occasionally my boss and his wife. But for the most part it was just me."

He helped himself to another brownie, because they were good. Chance smiled. "I do read a lot, yes," he answered her, and then laughed, brushing his fingers over the unflattering hospital gown.

"Maybe one or two people," he said, thinking back on this. "But for the most part, I'm just a normal, easygoing guy. It's nice to be appreciated, though," he added, giving Peyton a wink.

"Hardee har har," said Chance, rolling his eyes at her. "And you don't have to constantly remind me that I'm good, I'm pretty sure I know that by now."

His eyes were full of mischief, and he rubbed idly at his chest, trying to ease some of the ache caused by the broken ribs. "I'm glad you find me to be at least above sub-par in certain capacities," he said, smiling winningly. "You're such a charmer, Claudia Morgan."

Chance may not have been privy to Claude's bed partners, but neither was she privy to his, which wasn't limited to just the woman sitting next to him. He wasn't sure if it was supposed to be a pathetic fact or not, but at least he didn't care enough to stop what he was doing. Pleasure was pleasure, regardless, and unlike Claude, his standards were what they were without being quite as closed off and guarded.

"Excellent, sounds good to me," he said grandly. "Now pass CJ another chip, he looks hungry."

"It's only fair." That she could pun back at him after he punned so much at her. Claude let out another soft snort. "It's going to your head." She flat out told him. She resisted the urge to roll her eyes as having her almost-full name used, and instead sighed an "I know." Her tone fluctuating a tad as if to express it was a burden to be the charmer she was. Clearly.

The trainee as amused that Chance assigned the starfish a gender. She pushed herself out of the chair and moved back to the table. She reached into the opened bag and pulled out a few. She followed that up by opening the container and dropping the few in there, closing it after.

She then turned to the bed ridden trainee, resting a hand on her hip. "I have duty now. I'll come back after to drop off some books and pick up C.J." She tapped the container softly. "It'll keep you company. Have fun."

the late shift

Finn snorted, his only response to the moon comment as he suddenly went quite silent, as close to pensive as his cold expression would allow, fingers linking together, brow furrowed slightly.

Hel. He wondered if it was a very common name in Halloween. He wondered if there were quite a lot of Reapers with spears as well. He wondered what are the ******** odds? And realized possibly quite high, if that particular Reaper spent a lot of time stalking the halls of the haunted house. After all, in his few missions sent to that strange place, he had encountered her twice.

"I believe, I might know her." Finn finally said, head lifting to rest his gaze on Chance once more. "The question now is, what the ******** did you do to piss her off enough that she would put you here?"

the late shift

The silence was strange. Chance turned towards Finn with a slightly surprised expression in his face.

"You've met her before?" he asked curiously, tilting his head. A stray curl fell into his eyes, flitting across his forehead. He knew Finn was a full hunter and had been to the House way more times than Chance had, but it was still something surprising to learn that they had both had the misfortune to run into the same creature.

Except apparently she had not been as hostile with Finn as she had been with Chance. A slightly sheepish smile touched the edges of Chance's mouth.

"I don't think I necessarily pissed her off," he said slowly. "Maybe just annoyed her a bit."

'When you're out of here I'd be happy to show you where the other library is. There's a good collection there, and new books get added all the time." In fact, it was high time Peyton made another contribution. She was going to have to remind herself of that the next time she took leave. Stop at a book store, pick a few things up.

Peyton really wasn't experienced enough to with men to realize when they were flirting with intent, or just being friendly. For the most part it left her a little confused, a little flustered, and a little hopeful. The last couple of months had done a real number on her pride, and really, at this point she appreciated something as small as a wink and a smile. Sad, but true.

"There's a certain charm to easy-going," she'd note, smiling up at him.

Felicia had trouble with empathy. With connecting to people, to view their plights and emotions as valid, in comparison to her own. She wasn't ever a mean person on purpose, just....well. Thoughtless and awkward made for a pretty unpleasant mix, sometimes.

"He h-has grey skin and a, whatcha c-callit, a cool fade." She pantomimed his haircut with her hands to show it. "And some c-crazy claws. Do none of them have weapons? G-guess reapers do. Haven't m-met one of those yet, just r-read about 'em."

She just offered him a double thumbs up at his appreciation. "R-right? My cousin hatessss Rep but he's g-got a great bod. Some issues, t-though. What other angry h-huh-hotties you know?"

"But there are sharp and pointy things you could run into, or knock over, it's really easy to make a mess in here!" Oliver insisted, not at all swayed by the smile. There would be no wibbling or shying away from health and safety topics while the Life intermediate was in the infirmary. It was part of his comfort zone, after all.

Oliver did smile back though. "I-it could be worse... I got bit my a zombie the first time I went to the haunted house," he admitted sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. "It was over six feet tall, I was scared half to death." Chance had probably heard the story, from Twitter if not from gossip, about how Oliver had completely overreacted to being bitten.

"I think so. Was she hot?" He asked, flashing teeth in a grin. "More then a bit sassy? Loud? Darker skinned?"

He leaned back in his chair, and let out a short chuckle.

"She does seem to get annoyed easily, but she's reasonable as well. The first time I met her, she attacked me, but I was able to get her to stop and we talked for a bit instead."

"Please do," said Chance. "I still don't know my way around here as well as I probably should, even after being here for over six months now." He winked at her again. "You can be my tour guide and show me all of the good places where all of the cool people hang out."

He brushed crumbs from his hands. "If you're calling me charming, then I have to say I don't think that's quite the right word for me," he said, eyes alight with amusement. "But thank you for the compliment anyway, it's much appreciated."

"Fades are pretty hot," said Chance agreeably. "I was thinking of getting one myself, actually; just some blue added, maybe at the tips. Someone on Twitter told me that it would mean I'd have to bleach my hair, but I think that's probably something I wouldn't mind too much, as long as it's not my entire head."

He tugged at the bag of cookies, munching on one that he pulled out a second later. "Reapers have weapons, apparently," Chance said thoughtfully. "They're kind of like, you know, human-ish I guess? But the one I met had this giant a** spear, that sure kicked my a**."

A laugh escaped him. "I'm still not sure what to think of Rep sometimes, but he's pretty cool. As for other angry hotties..." Chance gave a little shrug. "Hard to say, there are a great many attractive people on the island. The guy that woke me up was pretty hot, but he's got a chip on his shoulder the size of Atlanta. I think Leslie could be all right, but that attitude of his just makes me want to mess with him like a puppy. And Claude's pretty gorgeous, she's not exactly angry though."

"She was pretty hot for a Halloween creature," said Chance with a laugh. "But yes, she fits all of those descriptions. Sassy, loud, darker skinned, and a pretty kickass lance that did exactly that - kick my a**. It's kind of shameful, but I suppose I learned my lesson."

His eyebrows rose. "What did you talk about?" Chance asked, more than a little curious.

"Chill, Oliver," said Chance in amusement. "I promise I won't do any running with any sharp objects unless it's in order to attack someone, in which case I would probably just stab them and run the opposite direction. Or something. Either way, I won't wreak havoc while I'm here."

Maybe. Chance gave the freckled hunter a curious look.

"Zombies?" he asked, tilting his head. "What kind of zombies? Like...the kind that eat brains and s**t?"
