Public modesty preserved, Cai took a couple steps backwards as the odd blue flopped onto his back and began to flail in the sands. At least his movements showed some sense of deliberate intent rather than the horrible thrashing of the brown from the last clutch.
Cai stumbled for a second time as the blue suddenly bolted behind the pair of them. They caught themself against Jemi's side, grasping her arm to correct their balance as they tried to watch both the blue hatchling, and the egg that had apparently spooked him.
Well Cai didn't blame him. Cai didn't have as negative of an opinion of the Fight as One egg as they had the Debonair Charmer, not at all negative really. They just remembered it being incredibly loud and for the sake of their ears and those of the others present... Cai hoped whoever it Impressed too would be able to impart some restraint on the hatchling.

“B’ren” R’soua acknowledged cheerfully, turning her attention back to Ja’line, using her hands to illustrate what she was saying. Sometimes, it was apparently impossible for her to keep still - at least when she was talking. “No, really. That’s what I heard, anyway. He was sent back to his family in some backwards little cothold, he’s a farmer now”
(she couldn’t imagine a worse fate)

Lex had really considered Dragon riding as a profession that had less chance of killing him before he was thirty then his current one. He actually still believed that it had less of a chance to kill him then tunnel snake hunting, though he realized suddenly, he had to survive a pit of infant dragons to get there.
Baby dragons seemed a tad dangerous.

Fight as One toppled finally, the egg cracking open and spilling out a green form, which writhed and wriggled herself up onto her feet, stretching out and casting about herself. She seemed - to anyone nearby - to be all claws and teeth, which she showed off with a big yawn. The big blue peeked out from behind Cai and Jemi, then began to toddle over towards her, apparently reassured.

With her good eye, Qyprenna couldn't help but raise a brow upon seeing the hatchling break forth from the Fight As One egg. For a green, she certainly knew how to pack a powerful punch when it came to expressing herself via the touching. She then smiled gently, noticing that Hulk was coming back out from his hiding spot. The two seemed to get along quite decently, and that was nice. The newly hatched dragon had a lot of claws and teeth, it seemed. She'd be an interesting one to see in action later on.
Yet Qyp's smiles soon faded as she realized something: most of the eggs so far were greens and blues. They had yet to see any sort of brown or bronze, and that was a little concerning. Not to herself, personally, but she knew that others in the Weyr wouldn't be too keen if the clutch came out solely the lower chromatic colors.

"Shells. I'd rather fling myself off a cliff before I got sent back home. Sure shaffing glad we Impressed!" The hatching of yet another egg was unnoticed by Ja'line as she gossiped with R'soua. "That's got to be one of the worst bits of bad luck I've heard of in a long time." She shuddered for emphasis. And yes, she was aware of the past turns events but at least most of the people involved in that had their dragons still and lived at the weyr.
Sanuyeth's surge of approval brought her attention down to the Sands again as the little green got to her feet, all tooth and claw for the whole weyr to see. Don't you go picking fights with the hatchlings.
I don't pick fights. I finish them. Sanuyeth thrummed, not bothering to keep the conversation private from Hazmath and Kyoth.
~.....~
Nothing but blues and greens. Dianno glanced up at the Weyrleader's balcony to see if he could make out any reactions so far. Any news?
There is a green talking about a fight but nothing of note yet. I'll let you know if the winds change. Aioth folded her forelegs before her where she lay curled above. Her eyes were focused on the Sands below but her mind was open and casting wide for any unguarded discussions of note.

Vosin and Tiaeth
The young woman tapped her fingers restlessly against her leg. So far the clutch was as she rather expected. She wondered if there'd be any browns. Vos had hoped there might be one or two, although she didn't expect any bronze.
That blue is the size of a brown Vos. Tiaeth tried to be helpful.
Drudge Kialynka
She'd stood there gapping like a wherry for too long. An older drudge hustled her out to go get more buckets. Kia grumbled and slinked along the outter wall as she headed back to the storage. She'd seen lots of greens and blues. Was that all a blue could sire, or were the real treasures hidden well? Though slinking and trying to stay in the shadows she moved quickly. Her thoughts were to get the meat and get back.

Greens and blues. A massive blue, but just greens and blues... not that there was a problem with that. Greens and blues were fighting dragons and, after the huge fuss about a blue mating a gold and thread and all, it was good to see that there were dragons on the sands at all. Dragons were good, and blues and greens were a big part of any wing. And these were big strong blues and greens, active and energetic, nothing like the clutch from the last hatching... that she had been banned from...
Poecai watched the green with some wariness, but again, it seemed to be a fairly peaceful hatching all told...

Esre was not a candidate. He was still too young yet, and he was glad of it. He wasn't even from this time, and it was hard enough to catch up to his modern classmates without having to also worry about hatchings and such. But his sisters had wanted him to go, and they were big and awesome and he did as they said. And, maybe, he could say hi to Nersha and Sereth too, if he was sneaky enough. He was late for the hatching, having picked up some food for himself and the twins to eat before making his way up into the stands where the dragons and their riders were perched. It wasn't hard to spot Tiaeth and Kelilayth – their small, clouded bronze hides unlike the big brutes all around them – and he scrambled up to them, panting with exertion as he handed Vosin a meatroll and set the others he had found down. “Here.” he managed, giving her a hug before he joined them. He managed to catch sight of a familiar smallish gold. Sereth he thought. So she was here. She looked ok, so Nersha probably was too. One less grownup to worry about. He smiled at Vosin. “I brought some food for you two. In case.”

B'ren thought back, considering. "Glass works," he admitted wistful. He sort of missed watching people work with glass and if he couldn't be a rider, he would have wanted to work with glass. "Do you think they are all green and blues? I hope they have a brown... or a bronze." Hazmath had flew after Evmeth too and if he wanted to again, B'ren didn't want to face a mob. Hazmath nodded, Sanuyeth did indeed finish her fights.

Poecai was watching the green, but really she should have been thinking about the big blue who paused in mid-stride and raised his over-sized snout like he was sniffing the air. His head turned, and he galumphed over to Poecai, all enthusiasm and delight and joy and love as he thrust his head into her hands, demanding that she stroke his eye ridges and stroke them NOW.
He was gentle, a little hesitant, but the love and the care and the joy was there.

"There had better be or C'tis is gonna be even more of a pain in the arse." She hadn't known him before being recruited to Second but he was definitely proud of his accomplishment... to a somewhat excessive extent. (Not that Ja'line wouldn't be doing the exact same thing in his position.) Still she didn't like the idea of him being shamed in front of the entire weyr and visiting guests.
She knew Hazmath had chased too. Sanuyeth had been right there beside them though the green was chasing for an entirely different reason. One that had Ja'line thinking a leave of absence during the next gold flight might be prudent.

Hulk had seemed to have found his partner, settling upon Poecai after bumbling over to her. She smiled at the sight, watching as the dragon was united with the individual who would be his rider. Seeing such things was truly a sight to behold, and how anyone would not be happy at such times, she had no idea. "Congratulations, Poe," she said with a warm smile. "He's a sweetie, and I think you'll be great together!" With that, she turned her attention toward the two greens still out in the sands, as well as the other eggs that had yet to hatch.
What other dragons could come from those unhatched eggs?

Suddenly, as suddenly as betweening, another player stepped onto the game board. He emerged silent as a shadow from behind a large dark egg and his wet hide glimmered, largely dark but unmistakably bronze and brighter bronze shone around his throat, on his headknobs, and curved a little down his skull. A careful observer might note a few shards of sky blue shell clinging to his hide and thus guess which egg he had emerged from in silence, concealed in the midst of the clutch.
Without apparent care for who observed him and who did not the sleek creature advanced on the candidates, as slow and as unstoppable as a glacier.

Vosin and Tiaeth
She grinned a welcome as Esre finally showed up. "There you are! Was wondering if you'd gotten lost. You're the best!" Vos praised him as she took the meatroll and gave him a rib bruising hug. " 'Ou'd fink da'd wait for uh goo' time!" The rider said around a mouthful. At least she wouldn't have to starve during the hatching.
"I never know what hatchlings think coming at inconvenient times. They could have at least waited for an invite!" She winked at him and finished off the first roll. "Glad you thought of bring these, though I woulda thought you've wanna be here watching."
Greetings Esre. Thank you for bringing those. She needed a distraction. He paused just a moment to rumble a greeting at the boy before resuming his humming.
A glimpse of something caught her attention and Vos leaned forward. Has she? Was that? The just hatched dragon moved out further onto the sands with confidence. It was! "Look! Look Esre! By Tiaeth's Egg, there's a bronze!" Well! There was something to celebrate. Vosin was sure there'd be some gloating going on when the rest of the spectators noticed him. And probably some jostling among the candidates hoping to be the one to impress him.
Drudge Kialynka
Kia hurried back with her filled to the brim buckets of meat. If the eggs kept hatching and dragons impressing there was going to be a lot of hungry babies waiting. She stepped back into the hatching cavern and headed to the tables waiting on the sides. Setting the meat pales down, she took a look around. Some of them had already impressed, but it seemed to be a slow hatching. Maybe due to the sire or something? She took a small gasp as she spotted the bold bronze making his way across the sands. Well look at that! There'd be some tongues waggling for sure! She grinned, next time she went to get buckets she could spread the word to other drudges. It'd be all over the weyr before the hatching was finished! The young teen wanted to cackle.
