"You're mortal," Chel responded cheekily. Because that WOULD be Jack's only weakness.

"Vampire," she whispered, only to realize that Jack was not going to get that joke because he probably didn't even know what Twilight was.

She stuck a hand out and put it up against what she hoped was his mouth and said, "Indoor voices."

"You what," he said behind her hand. "Why? I don't sparkle."

He got that reference.

Chel looked up from the table, giving Jack a look with her bloodshot eyes. She cracked a smile at his joke, the smile that only Jack seemed to achieve. Her hand ran down his lips to his cheek, slowly dripping down his skin in an almost romantic fashion.

"Let's date. Me n' you. Eddy n' bells," she said abruptly. She was tired of having secrets, because she was a very upfront person. She grabbed life's bull(s**t) by the horns and faced it head on. She didn't like crushes and she didn't like whispering gossip. In elementary school she was the girl who walked over to a girl's crush and said "SHE LIKES YOU." At the very least, she would have the weight off her chest.

Her head fell back to squishing itself on the counter. "M'serious." Just in case he thought it was another one of her jokes. "I wanna do this every night, hangover included." All parts of the night.

Warning bells went off in his head as her hand slid down.

She accurately predicted the are you serious that instinctively sat behind his lips, and so Jack was both stunned and quiet, his lips pressed together almost like the way they did before he scolded someone. Jack was thankful yet again for the shades because he didn't want to know what Chel would have seen in his eyes; he needed that barrier because the hangover had stripped him of pretty much all the ones he left up against people getting in, and if there was one thing Jack hated, it was feeling defenseless. He didn't have as hard a heart as he pretended sometimes, but that couldn't, shouldn't, and wouldn't become public knowledge.

Out of all the mistakes he'd made since walking into Chel's room, the biggest, he decided, was being soft enough to stay.

"I have an obligation to talk to Hanna about our arrangement first," Jack said after a long moment, strangely formal. Maybe it was a little too convenient to be remembering her now, but he didn't care. Then he returned to a more casual tone. "Edward and Bella were a shitty couple," he argued. "******** watching people sleep and throwing themselves off canyons after being dumped."

Chel sat up abruptly and said, "That's a yes?" She then immediately held her head and waited for it to stop spinning while she held out a finger. When it had cleared, she croaked, "It's a yes right?"

She got a little sad when he mentioned his not-so-girlfriend, "I'm kinda bummed about Hanna ... can we set her up with Chris or something?" Chel's giddiness was almost childish, overriding her nausea for the moment. "Can I tell anyone? Wait can I at least tell Finn- I can't keep secrets from him ..." She looked at her phone and then winced because rotating her head that much was a bad idea.

Her invisible tail had returned to wagging. albeit a little more slowly because hangover.

"It's a no," he corrected her as he stood up, bristling the more she spoke. The look Jack gave her was practically visible with anger even through the sunglasses and the lingering haze of hangovers. "What happened to only confiding—nevermind, just keep your mouth shut. As far as anyone else is concerned, this never ******** happened. Understood?"

All parts of Chel seemed to fall limp. Well now she was both embarrassed and angry. "I don't run my mouth to Finn, I just meant with somethin' like you and me it'd be hard for Finn not to notice-"

A beat. "Nevermind." She wondered what had possibly possessed her to think Jack would be so easy. "It was worth a shot," she said with a sideways smile. Which was a very shitty phrase considering in retrospect, that shot had been fully and entirely wasted. With a half hearted salute (that looked odd, since she still hadn't lifted her head), she responded, "Aye, aye, cap'n. Erased completely."

At least, for one of them.

She assembled herself enough to sit up and reach for her glass, which she'd left on the other side of the counter to Jack's right. "Can you hand me my water?" Chel knew the morning-after routine relatively well. Either they were gone or they made an excuse to leave. She was acting like nothing happened. Just like he said.

For a wild moment he wished she stayed stubborn about it just so he had a reason to hit her and put her in her place. Worth a shot. So the b***h had practically bribed him, and for what? Sex and a chance to call him "boyfriend"? Did she really think he'd be that easy? No, it was the other way around: she was that pathetic. And she had no right to be making him feel bad about this anyway, because it was all her ******** fault. The food and the fun had lowered his guard, the alcohol had dulled his mind, and then she had the nerve to listen to his drunk a** and strip and have that body and that smile and that ******** perky attitude about everything—

(And it was this and more that ultimately made him believe, in a small untouched place at the back of his mind, that in spite of Chel's stupidity and overall annoying presence, she did need to look into someone better.)

His fist clenched and then relaxed. He complied and got her cup and sat it down before her, then took off her shirt, folded it, sat it on the counter, and moved away. After a few moments of squinting through the lenses, Jack found his coat and jeans and returned, folding the former atop the coffee machine box before inching the latter on with some difficulty.

"Give me my shirt back, Chelsea."

She blinked and said, "Huh? Oh! Yeah right sorry." The shirt was detached immediately, no protest, even folded before sliding it across the counter.

It was silent for a few moments as she sipped her water and he changed himself back into pants. The scars hadn't escaped her, but commenting on them would make things worse. She tilted her head in the way she always did, wondering what he was thinking. Her sip was done and appropriately awkward, so she broken the silence. "Are you thinking it was all a scheme or something? Like are you thinking I bought and made all this stuff just to ask you out?" She laughed and said, "I ain't that kinda gal!" She would be, if it worked. "Seriously, you think my empty head's gonna plan all this out?" She laughed, because if she didn't she would yell. Or cry. Possibly both. "I couldn't even spell the curry out. Had 'ta have Finn do it for me."

Getting angry wouldn't happen. That would just be letting Jack win. Chel was determined not to let Jack win. She'd be happy for what little time he had given her. She switched into the shirt he'd mistakenly worn, now back in their right positions. She shrugged, because it seemed like all she could do was keep pretending this hadn't bothered her a wink. That was also letting Jack win. "Just don't be weird later, okay?"

"Thank you."

The words slipped out before he knew it. He took his shirt back and slipped it on, casting glances at Chel from the corner of his eye. It was uncomfortable to remember she could put two and two together and make logical leaps. Again, he didn't visibly react, just smoothed his hair, fixed his clothes, and pushed the sunglasses back up his nose.

"Won't be weird," Jack affirmed in an oddly subdued voice, losing the burst of anger from before. "Thanks for cooking and for the coffee machine."

Pause.

"...I had fun." He frowned a little, shook his head, retried. "I had a lot of fun, y'know. Haven't had that in a while."

"S'cause you never let yourself," she twittered, "I get to have all the fun while you're out bein' the big important person." She grinned and picked up the coffee machine, groaning with the nausea of the weight on her body.

She gestured to the door and said, "I'll help carry this s**t. Ya gotta promise not to collapse when you hit the sun though, Eddy." More likely, Chel was going to collapse.

The box went back to the counter as quickly as it had been removed and she said, "Oh yeah. Need pants." Just one of life's many difficult tasks. She rummaged through the pile of clothes that had been hidden upon Jack's arrival, with no decency to cover the a** sticking straight in the air. She finally settled upon a pair of ripped blackish-pinkish leggings (she was unsure which color they were or why they were that color anymore) because they were easy to slip on and jeans took too long. "Now I'm ready." She didn't even bother with shoes, because they were just going down a floor- it wasn't exactly dangerous territory. Chel was classy.

Her hands curled back around the box and she returned to her "ready to leave!" position. She was still settled with a massive amount of sadness, but Jack's change of demeanor was improving her mood. "You're welcome bro. We can always hang out again later if you want. I'll make you Mexican next time. Taco night, taco night!" Somewhat surprisingly, Chel wasn't actually a bad cook.

"Big important person," Jack echoed without comprehension. The offer surprised him, and in the wake of Chel's energy he found himself swept along and just nodded. (Why bother making a clean break for it now when he'd already made a mess? Apparently they both liked prolonging the issue anyway.)

"Promise I won't sparkle with the skin of a killer if nothing else," he said as he studied the listed features on the box.

He wouldn't let himself look as she put on her leggings.

The very idea of tacos at the moment made him queasy, but Jack did his best not to look like he was struggling to hide his hangover as they left her room. "Nachos and everything?"

".... Nachos, really?" She shook her head pitifully. "You just stick those in the ******** microwave- s**t's easy. You got lame a** tastes." Bickering already felt more normal. She was pleased to hear it though. It meant he was going to come over again.

She rolled her eyes as they left the room and headed into the hallway. "You look like you just escaped prison. Just own the hangover." It was hard to take her seriously when he voice was gravel and she looked as though she had lost her glasses in a completely different room.
