Seneca began to talk business as the meal dwindled. Plates started disappearing, wine glasses were filled to the brim again, and dessert was well on its way. The smell wafted into the dining room all the way from the kitchen down the hall. After some silence from the young people at the table, Nae decided to poke her head around in Nic's business. The waiter removed her half full plate, she figured that would suffice and she would find some goodies later. Kanae wasn't exactly the healthiest eater on land, one grew tired of things like seaweed. But things like ice cream and cookies were abundant here and she loved every sugary one. That's why the sweet scent coming from the kitchen was so distracting to her near-drunken mind. This wine was clearly stronger than the bottles Richard and her shared.
Her heart jumped at the thought of his name, her eyes caught his gaze just as he chuckled at something one of his siblings had said. Nae looked away quickly, turning her full attention to Nic as she had originally planned.
"This wine is fan-- Really good. Isn't it?" Damn, she was clearly feeling it more than she originally thought. Change the subject from wine and go for the hard hitting questions...!
"So, do you live in the inner city?" She kept her voice low for his sake. It seemed Calli was intent on listening to her fathers plans for the cities uniting, everyone else was moderately distracted. Nic, of course, was shoving his face with the last of his morsels of food. Kanae had to stop herself from accidentally making a stank face. But the plate was cleaned and taken away before he answered her question. Both wine glasses refilled, and then the room was emptied of waiters again.
I've been so wrapped up in my warm cocoon.,
But somethings happening things are changing soon. I'm pushing the edge..

 Well, regardless of what she meant, this Nae still wanted to talk. And she wasn't so bad so far really...
It wasn't usual for Nic to be so judgmental this quickly, but for some reason he had started off with not the best impression of her from before even having met her. But maybe that part wasn't her fault, not if she was just as clueless as the Princess.
"Mmm yeah. I haven't had much wine before, and none of it could compare to this stuff." Nic answered with a small shrug, not having a problem with admitting to his inexperience on the matter. He was pretty sure it was obvious enough already that he wasn't at all affluent like most of the people here.
Speaking of such things, Nic took another sip from his wine and picked at the last bit of food left around his plate before it got taken away.
He was trying to ignore the fact that he could hear his name crop up here and there around the table now that his rescue story had been told.
Like... holy s**t... what if this spread beyond the castle? What if his Badi kin heard of it and realized it was him? He supposed it wouldn't matter to stupid Durril, the clan chief, though.
It was around this time that Nic was trying to ignore the people talking about him that he happened to glance toward the Prince again, who was fortunately looking away, but someone wasn't. Nic was startled to notice that a girl who appeared to be the youngest person at the table that night was staring straight at him, from the Andoran side. Based off of the exchanges he had noticed it looked like she could be the Prince's little sister... which made it even weirder.
A little princess goggling at him! What?
"The inner city?" Nic chuckled awkwardly as he turned back to Nae and shrugged. "Nah... I'm not so privileged. What about you? Where are you from?" Nic tactfully turned the questions around. He technically had answered her question without giving up any additional information and then attempted to get more than he gave by asking a more general sweeping question than she had.
It was hard not to keep looking around when he heard whispers of him, or phrases he knew were related to the rescue story, but he tried to ignore it. Just focus on the conversation and getting through the night... then it will be worth it right?
Nic also couldn't help but check on the Princess every now and then, though much of her attention was being taken up by other people at the time, some of which were loud enough to make it several people down.

On a collision course, I'm out of control!

As the dinner got started, Richard was plagued with questions from his brother who was to his immediate right. Rob tried to keep his voice low so their father wouldn't hear, but Richard could not answer most of them without too much risk.
Of course he wanted to know where Richard had been, had he explored the place yet, found any other cute girls, what did he think of the princess- hot right? And what about that friend over there eh? Yeah, maybe Rob would have a chance with the mystery brunette sitting so close to the Royal family on the other side.
And what about that guy? The "hero." Eh ******** hell man. Richard wanted to clout his brother across the back of the head right then and there. The kid could at least act like he was an adult now that he turned 18 a month ago.
Not that Richard really had any room to talk when it came to adult business, but whatever.
Richard replied casually enough, but his annoyance at all of the attention this Nic guy was getting at his welcome dinner was hard to miss if you knew him well enough. And his brother did.
His father, King James III, kept up steady conversation with the other King throughout the dinner, as well as some polite formalities with the princess and the other nobles on both sides of the table. Meanwhile his mother did the same, slightly more secluded with her "noble ladies" to her side.
When Richard glanced down the table slightly at his sister he thought she was brooding at first, or bored, until he realized she was staring dreamily at that Nic as well! Seriously? His sister was only 15 and clearly took after their mother.
At least the alcohol helped Richard get by well enough, loosening him up for conversation to the many that addressed him throughout the dinner. He did his best to ignore it when the same people got going on about the Princess' adventure and her hero though, with polite nods and grunts of affirmation.
Richard caught an intense side glance from his father at one point during his brooding after the stories really got going about Nic, so he drank more wine. That solved the problem right?
He sure could pretend it helped! And soon, after teasing his sister for her staring and grilling his brother on his accommodations and the hot maids he'd mentioned, he started to relax and joke plenty, letting the alcohol buzz wash over him.
There had been one point after Richard started to get back into his groove when his eyes caught Nae's across the table and held the contact just a moment too long, but no one should have noticed. Well, no one on his side of the table would take any note of him just checking out any of the new girls.
It was Nae that looked away first when their eyes met however, and he watched a moment longer as the brunette turned to speak with Nic.
This set up was stupid. They should have put him next to the princess instead of across, separating their families. Then he could have been between the two girls. Instead of him.
Like seriously? The guy didn't even look comfortable with the attention!
Richard was comfortable with attention.
At least the food had been good dammit! He would really have to put some effort in when they cleared the food up and everyone stayed around to mingle, which he figured would happen soon.
Yes, he would need to step it up when he had barely been able to get a word in to the Princess after his initial introduction because everyone wanted to ask her about the stupid story. And Nic.

Nic glanced down the table and Nae had to resist turning around herself. She so badly wanted to talk to Richard, or at least meet his eyes. But she had to focus right now.
Kanae stopped short when Nic asked her about herself, boxing her in. She sighed and repeated her made up story, the one Ursula created for her.
"There's this small town outside of both kingdoms, Arkheim. It's about six or so hours away." She shrugged, playing it cool. Though, she could tell Nic was curious about her so she had her guard up.
Nae didn't have time to say anything else because Seneca was using his commanding voice again.
"I could use a nice cigar before dessert. What do you say, James?" He shot a smile down at the other king before glancing at the rest of the table, then inviting all the men if they so chose. "We can reconvene in thirty minutes or so for dessert."
Nae's stomach grumbled involuntarily. s**t. She really thought that dessert would be right out, but now she was just left hungry after picking through her poor lobster.
Calli turned to them instantly.
"You're free to join them if you'd like, but it's really just going to be a bunch of old men talking politics." She said, speaking to Nic. "Nobody expects you, or Richard, or his brother, or Javier even, to be there." Javier was her fathers right hand man too, that was strange. The men began standing up, then gathered towards the exit doors.
Javier came over to sit beside the princess, waving at the Andors side of the table.
"Are you all going to come hang out with us down here or do you prefer to be rude?" Now that the kings and queen had dispersed, the women to the foyer for coffee and the men to the balcony for cigars, Javier was the oldest, though not by much, and totally the most loose-lipped. Javier had an obvious crush on Calli, Nae had learned. Though, Calli had no idea. And apparently neither did her father.
"Bossy much, Javi?" She laughed, using the new-nickname he had grown to hate so much. Javier was not Kanae's biggest fan, that was for sure.
He shot her a look and a fake laugh, then turned to Nic.
"So, we didn't speak much at dinner. I'm Seneca's right hand man, Javier."
Kanae turned around to see Richard and his siblings approaching. She smiled, stood up, smoothed her dress down, and held her hand out to Richard first. "Pleasure to meet you Prince Richard, I'm Kanae." Now, in her strappy heels, she came up to just under his chin. Then she introduced herself to the siblings, shaking their hands as well. "I've heard wonderful things about all three of you." She made sure not to stare at Richard too much longer than the other two before taking her seat, hoping that somehow Richard would end up beside her. But knowing that would tempt fate...

Calli listened intently to the political talk, trying her hardest to understand. She really wanted to take this whole thing seriously. Especially if the maids gossip was true and Richard couldn't give a s**t less. Someone had to save her city, it was falling apart! But they spoke nothing of the litter, only of the parties. They spoke nothing of the poor animals, only of the cash flow. They spoke nothing of the dog fights, the poor people, or the criminals, only of their own gain, their own wealth, and a royal wedding. A wedding that she had little to actually do with, in all honesty. There were things expected to happen a certain way and that was the way it was done. There were rules.
Her father wrapped up dinner and invited the men out for cigars. She figured she might as well ease the apparent pressure and focus and tell Nic he didn't have to attend.
"You're free to join them if you'd like, but it's really just going to be a bunch of old men talking politics." She continued, "Nobody expects you, or Richard, or his brother, or Javier even, to be there." Just then Javier joined them at their side of the table, as he was seated on the opposite side of her dad. He sat directly next to Calli, even bringing the chair closer to her a bit.,
Then he whispered, so only she heard, "You look stunning, princess." He was only a few years older than she was, just about twenty six now. Calli used to crush on him growing up. He was someones son, they died when he was just a boy and her father took him in. It was his way of getting a son without giving up the crown to someone outside of the family.
"Are you all going to come hang out with us down here or do you prefer to be rude?" He snipped, smirking. Calli shoved him, but Nae spoke out first, causing Calli to giggle. "Be nice." She shook her head.
Then Javier was speaking directly to Nic, introducing himself.
Richard and his siblings made their way over and Nae introduced herself. It was such a pleasure that she didn't have to worry about Kanae meeting new people, she was so friendly.
Calli turned as they took their seats closer to their little group, smiling. "I'm really glad you all could come. Did you enjoy dinner?" She had had a few glasses of wine herself, which was very unlike her. So, she was feeling a little chatty, which was totally like her. Only her filter felt a little lose.

Nic took note of the fact that Nae seemed caught off guard when he started probing and then mentioned a city he'd never heard of supposedly outside of both of the kingdoms. Hey, not that it couldn't happen, but it was weird. Or Nic was over analyzing everything at this dinner way too much.
Nic was about to ask more about Kanae when Seneca invited King James to smoke a cigar and then looked around and all of the men started standing up. Nic also looked around, feeling confused about just exactly what that meant and who was supposed to be going where?
He was saved by the Princess once again, explaining things to him. Going with her sounded much better than joining the older men to smoke cigars and talk politics.... definitely.
"Oh thank you, yeah I wasn't sure what..." Nic trailed off, preferring to stay by the Princess of course. Besides, it would be difficult for Prince Richard to sit right by the Princess now.
Nic thought about it this way... being here and having even some of the attention of a beautiful princess that he had saved... was a once in a lifetime experience for him. This was the life of spoiled Prince Richard who was supposed to end up marrying that same Princess. Nic could have his night right?
And speaking of... The Prince and his siblings joined them after some prompting, though Richard had already been on his way over it looked like.
Before Nic could say much to anyone, the other guy sitting near Calli introduced himself. Of course, yet another person of a super high "station."
"Nice to meet you sir, I'm Nic." he said simply and politely, holding his hand out for Javier to shake.
And then all of a sudden, the littlest Princess in the room, though she was probably at least a teen, was suddenly standing near him, holding out her hand.
"I'm Princess Diana" she said, smiling down at him from her standing position.
"Oh, I'm honored to meet you Princess, I'm Nic." he replied, giving her a normal smile back and shaking her hand. Seriously no one would believe this s**t.
"I know" she giggled and then winked at him and sat down on his other side.
Nic had never imagined how weird it would feel to be hit on by a Princess, much less one much younger than him.
Scratching the back of his neck absently, Nic tried to pay attention to Calli and the others, rather than Diana at his side...
That became easier when he was surprised to see that his little strategy had not worked out so well when the Prince pulled a chair right up near them all anyway. If anything, it excluded Nic and Princess Diana the most, centering on Calli.
Okay, that was fine.

Once Seneca invited his father, and then the other men around the table out for a cigar, Richard stood slowly, looking around.
Some of the older women left as well, but the Princess, Kanae, Nic, and another guy were over there so he headed that way right before being quite almost insulted.
Instead of addressing that slight, Richard turned to Nae as she introduced herself, as if for the first time. He shook her hand firmly, and nodded, smiling charmingly "Pleasure to meet you Kanae." He replied, saying her name perfectly this time, unlike their first meeting. And that was while kind of drunk!
Then his brother was next, "I'm Prince Rob, at your service m'lady Connie" he said, clearly flirting with the formalities, and kissed her hand when he took it. He also made the same name mistake Richard had the first time, making his older brother smirk slightly.
And after Diana briefly introduced herself to Nae, Richard saw her dart of toward Nic and had to resist the urge to roll his eyes.
There wasn't a seat next to the Princess now, so Richard swung the closest chair around and ended up sort of half next to Nae, Javier, and Princess Calliope, but wasn't even able to touch the table without reaching over someone.
He didn't care. Richard made the movement look natural, and when he sat down, he turned his smile on Calliope and said, "The dinner was delicious. So far I love what little I have seen of the castle and it's grounds, but tell me about Bania, about your home." Oh yeah, Richard was laying it on thick, the words coming easily to him as he spoke, but it sounded fairly genuine. The alcohol buzz actually made him somewhat focused, so he directed that at the Princess.

Calli watched as Richard and his family finished introductions, then Richard plopped down in front of her, kind of closing off Nic who apparently had a friend in the princess, Diana.
"That's great. So wonderful." She beamed. Her goal was to make sure Richard thought something of her. Though, Calli was clueless when it came to flirting. Considering the extent of her flirting was mostly spent rejecting the groundsmen's comments, and Javier- But she was clueless to that. She thought he was just sweet, her protector. It was his job, after all.
"Bania, my home." She repeated slowly. Well.
"Honestly, my dad has kept me under wraps. Today was the first time I really explored Bania."
Javier cut in, clearing his throat. "It's always been for your own good, princess." Little did she know it was actually Javier's idea from the start, her father just blinded trusted him sometimes. As did Calli.
"Oh, of course. After what I went through today I simply couldn't imagine growing up around all of that. Though surely it hasn't always been so bad. My mother did a lot of charity-type work before her young death." Her voice tugged sadness, so she took another drink of her wine.
"But it's a beautiful city. It just needs a little help right now. I assume that is why my father is reaching out to Andor, I've heard your city has flourished quite well the last few years."
Javier looked on, bored at what Calli was discussing. Mostly because she was talking directly to the prince, and ignoring anyone else at the table. Even as chatter happened around them.
"I haven't been informed of a lot, but once we are wed I assume we would have to chose where to live, as the sea separates the two cities." Though, she probably had no say in that. "There's just so much I want to be able to do! Nic!" She shouted, interrupting Kanae and Nic's conversation. "Tell Richard about these dog fights. I'm sure he will help me eliminate the horrors in this city." She looked away from Nic when she mentioned Richard, locking eyes with him.

Kanae almost corrected Rob when he called her Connie. Apparently these land-folk had no sense of pronunciation. Kah-Nay. How hard was it?! But she was watching Richard. Her focus was in the wrong place. She really needed to get her head in the game. This wasn't just something silly, this was her future on the line.
Nae sighed when Richard left her side, to sit near to her, but with focus on the princess. She knew that's how it had to be. This dinner was all about them getting to know each other after all. She couldn't really listen to them because she was watching Diana interact with Nic. She couldn't help but chuckle. She was clearly all goo goo eyes for him. Nae nudged him when she sat nearby. "Looks like some hero has an admirer." She chuckled, taking more to drink. One or two more glasses of this good stuff and Nae was going to be in trouble... But every time she looked up at Calli and Richard, Richard so intent on focusing on her, she felt the need to reach for the glass. Her stomach was burning, what was this awful feeling?
Nae heard Calli going on about Bania, nearly laughing herself. Though that was mostly in part due to the wine. It was funny because Richard had clearly asked about her city, the one she would one day run, and she knew nothing of it until today. The crime rate had sky rocketed in the last decade, which went unnoticed and uncared for by her father and his royal court, as well as the small wealthy population in Bania. Kanae could have told Richard much more about Bania than Calli could. But she did everything she could to keep her mouth shut. This was too soon to go exposing herself. She needed to keep low, keep on everyones good sides.
She turned to look at Rob, who was messing with his iPhone 6, which she just saw as a white phone that had a big screen. Just because she acquired a cell phone upon coming to land, didn't mean she was up to date on the models and all that.
"So, Nic? Are you staying after dessert or does the hero have some other princesses to rescue?" She needed to talk to someone, or do something. Her nervous energy had her buzzing around. Or maybe that was the wine. She really wasn't sure inside her fuzzy head right now.
Her words piqued Diana's interest though, she obviously tuned in to listen to this conversation, dark but seemingly bright eyes, locked on Nic with an innocent smile painted on her beautiful, flawless face.

Nic ended up getting trapped between having to watch Richard take up all of Calli's attention, and getting all of Diana's. He was polite and evasive with her, keeping his answers short, while still trying to figure out how to get out of this funk.
All of a sudden Nae was next to him again however, giving him reason to talk to someone other than just the little Princess, even if she was making fun of him for that part at first.
Nic shrugged, "Isn't that what happens when you become a hero?" he replied jokingly, trying to relax with humor.
No, you get the girl, the Princess you rescued, when you're really a hero in a story right? Ha.
She asked what he was doing after dinner, to which Nic really was not sure.
"I dunno... I think the Princess said something about getting a car to take me home after the dinner, but I'm not expecting to get into anymore rescuing today" he added with a laugh.
"Oh no! You should stay Nic! I'm sure there's plenty of space." Diana chimed in, smiling up at him.
Nic started to answer her even though he didn't really know what to say, but was interrupted by Calli telling him to tell Richard about the dog fights. He had heard enough about what she had been talking to the Prince about to know she was going over the problems in her city.
"Oh uh, well. The dog that attacked us, I got a really good look at him from the porch light of the back yard I jumped. With all of the scars and muscle he looked exactly like a dog my cousin rescued from a dog fighting pen, he snuck in and just let most of the dogs go, but then the cops had to round them up after because they were so violent. I know the fights are illegal now, but that's why it's 'underground'." Nic said, using air quotes. "They probably make even more money for it now that it's illegal." He said, face twisting in anger at the thought. Poor Benji had died only a couple years after being rescued, but he was a cool dog, for the most part...
"It took my cousin's dog a long time to recover though, he was so injured when he got him that he couldn't really hurt anyone, but almost killed a kid a year later for pulling his tail just because he was so traumatized."
Yeah, that had been a big incident in his clan back when it had happened. And yet Durril hadn't bannished his cousin for that! OR the dog.
Now thing was, Nic had been with his cousin when they let the dogs go and he'd actually gotten to see everything for himself, but he wasn't about to admit that part... especially since it had actually been really bad when they let the dogs go and a lot of people had gotten hurt. But they shouldn't have been treated like that in the first place!

Richard tried to listen intently while the Princess answered his question, thinking he definitely didn't need any more because this was hard enough to follow.
"Really?" Richard asked incredulously when she told him she had never explored before today, and that was when the other guy cut in.
Richard shook his head, "I know things are different in our cities and you're at more risk than me because you are a woman, but wow. I know my city like the back of my hand, and I've been through other parts beyond the capital as well." he said, realizing it could be interrupted as bragging only afterward.
"You should definitely get to explore your city and get to know your people Princess, just take a guard for your safety next time perhaps." he said, trying to imagine what life would have been like growing up only within his castle. Of course, he frequently ditched his own guard, but that was beside the point.
"I am confident we can improve the conditions of both of our kingdoms together Calli" he said, using the nickname he had heard others use, wanting to get more personal than just Princess now. As he said it, he smiled and touched his hand to her knee when he said 'together.'
All of a sudden the conversation took a turn that ended up including Nic, who Richard had at least temporarily excluded so well.
Although, he had noticed Nae going over there a little earlier and was grateful for the wine at the time, even if he wasn't currently drinking anymore. He could not pay attention to her right now, no. Full focus. Calliope.
So, Richard suppressed a sigh an eye roll, and instead glanced Nic's way while he told them more about the dog fights.
"It sounds like you were lucky to make it out unscathed then Nic." Richard said first, to which Nic shrugged. He shrugged a lot, this guy.
"Well, the dog didn't get me anyway." the boy said.
Richard nodded, then just left it at that with Nic and turned back to the Princess.
"I wound up at a dog fight one night when I was out in the city. Had the whole thing closed down by the next day though, which also lead us to a couple other locations to take care of. It happens, but it's rare in Andor. All of the dogs were sent to get medical treatment before determining if any were safe to be put up for adoption."
When Richard told the story, his brother Rob snickered slightly off to the side, but didn't say a word, and Richard didn't even dignify him with a look.
Okay, so what he told was a romanticized version.
Richard had ended up drunk at a dog fight one night, which was where his guards had finally caught up with him, and then arrested a s**t ton of people before shutting the whole thing down. Interrogations had lead to others and yeah, they'd closed that s**t down too. But Richard had made it sound more like he was the hero in his story, when it was really just mere happenstance that lead to him being related to the closing of many dog fighting pits.
Rob probably still remembered their father yelling at Richard over ending up in the worst possible places when he ran off and got drunk. Not that he enjoyed dog fights, but... well, he really didn't even remember how he had ended up there. Seriously.
'Cause I took that s**t out.

Richard assured her they would fix both of their kingdoms together, then touched her bare knee softly. She felt her skin tingle, her cheeks blushed a bit. "I would really love that." Her voice was soft, and he gave her advice about taking her guards. Well, yes. She would have taken them but she wasn't allowed off of palace grounds, they would stop her- not help her.
But she wasn't going to dwell and pout, she wanted to come off strong and stable.
Nic explained his stories of dog fights, talking about his cousin rescuing them. She smiled at him, turning slightly to look at him fully. All eyes seemed to be on her, even Rob looked up at her occasionally from his phone. Diana was sitting nearly in NIc's lap, which she thought nothing of. They were all pretty close together. Then Richard countered with his own story, coming out a hero. Calli smiled at him now. "Richard, that's amazing. You are not at all like what the rumor mill says. Silly maids." Her eyes widened at her sudden realization. "Not that many people talk about you or anything..." She trailed off, trying to get it back together, then picked back up on the previous topic before she ruined everything... "Anyways, that's really great. I'm sure we could benefit from both of your history with these sorts of things." She paused, then continued. "Richard, I've invited Nic to help me with the animal cruelty in the kingdom because he seems really passionate. And I think having the citizens involved will help get the community together again." She hoped to eliminate the unnecessary crime as well. The kingdom clearly needed to rally together, because right now they were working against each other. Though, Calli didn't even begin to understand the bigger picture.
"There is so much I want to do." She beamed at Richard. "My mother was a huge animal lover. Oh! None of you have met Thor." She jumped from her seat and ran off in search of the tiger.

A car was going to take him home? Well, not if Diana had anything to say about it. "She's right you know. And Calli seems awfully fond of you." She laughed, then smiled at Diana. "You're stay for a few days yourself, aren't you?" The girl nodded excitedly. "Yes yes! My parents, Rob, and I are sharing a wing. Richard," She grunted. ""Gets his own for whatever reason!" She rolled her eyes and Nae laughed again.
"That doesn't seem fair." She winked, Diana turned her attention back to Nic though. Actually, everyone did. Nic was telling the story that Calli prompted him to explain. His cousin had released a bunch of dog fighting dogs, and they took them in and cared for them. His family. That was sweet. She found herself smiling wider at him, her eyes wide throughout the story. But Richard stole the limelight with his own tale.
"Richard, that's horribly scary! It's a good thing you made it out of there." She took another drink, realizing she sounded a bit too excited for him.
Calli made a fool of herself, really. She talked about how the maids were talking about Richard, implying they said awful things about him. She almost snorted her wine out of her nose! Then Calli jumped out of her chair, excused herself and went to find Thor. Of course she needed an escape right now, that was pretty embarrassing on her part.
"Didn't she say you have a pet too, Nic? A monkey, right?" She touched his arm gently, then picked her glass back up. "Where'she-" Her words sort of slurred together.
"I absolutely love animals. Thor is a sweetheart. You'll love him." She finished off her glass of wine, her eyes wandered over to Richard as she licked her lips. Then she eyed Rob, who happened to be looking up from his phone. Her cheeks flushed slightly, then she looked down at the now-empty glass sitting in front of her.I've been so wrapped up in my warm cocoon.,
But somethings happening things are changing soon. I'm pushing the edge..

Yeah? Nae thought Calli was fond of him? Well he had saved her twice he guessed, but hearing that still felt pretty good.
It looked liked everyone, for the most part, was interested in his story, but especially the little Princess. Nic was paying most attention to Calli's reaction though, as she finally directed her attention toward him, but it didn't last long.
Somehow Richard had his own story about himself come out the hero in saving dogs from the pits in his own land.... Well, maybe Nic should have taken credit. Jeez...
Then again, why did he care?
Nic had to try and keep a straight face when the Princess blurted something out about the maids saying things behind Richard's back. Ha! So he was a d**k and they knew it! But of course he was all charm around the Princess, even as he tried to exclude Nic as much as possible. Yeah, he'd noticed. It was something he was used to, growing up a "Gypsy."
However, Nic was quite surprised when Calli said something about inviting him to help with Animal cruelty in the city.... He guessed he remembered her saying something about that, but hadn't actually realized she wanted to work with him on it? Meaning he would be seeing more of her after tonight?
Yeah right... Like the King would let that happen. He probably didn't want her associating with a low "peasant" like him any longer than necessary. He knew how it was.
But it was a nice thought. And nice that she wanted to.
Nic wasn't even listening to the Prince's reply, almost daydreaming, until Calli mentioned meeting Thor? She had said something about an animal named Thor before too.
Then Nae was asking him about his monkey, slurring slightly at the end there.
Nic laughed lightly, taking another drink of his own wine, though she seemed to be quite a bit ahead of him, before answering.
"Yeah, Abu is my spider monkey. He actually helped me save the Princess the first time, and alerted us about the dog before we saw or heard anything. I guess they took him off somewhere to eat too?" Nic said, wishing he did know exactly what was up with that. They said they would take care of him, but...
Surely he would be fine.

Richard definitely got the impression that this Princess was really innocent and naive. He supposed Kanae had said as much at some point, but he could see it obviously enough. He knew she had been pretty closely guarded, but still, she never snuck off before this or anything?
Definitely a virgin. Of course a Princess was supposed to be for their husband and King, but even with royalty these days that often wasn't the case. Women were to be held to the same standards as men blah blah blah.
But the point was, Richard figured all he needed to do was put on some charm, say the right things, and he would have her... and Nae, right in his back pockets. That was usually how it worked.
And then right in the same sentence as saying he was amazing, The Princess basically told him his maids were talking s**t on him. Rob was cackling silently off to the side again, staring straight at his phone, but Richard could tell it had nothing to do with what he was looking at. He would have kicked his brother just then if he'd had a chance of it without being seen.
Richard took a slow deep breath, and continued to smile through almost clenched teeth for a moment there... and why was it he couldn't reach any wine again?
He opened his mouth to speak, only to have Calli continue and throw him off even more by telling him about how she had invited Nic to do some animal cruelty s**t and sounded like she wanted more of that, especially from him. She had plans, she wanted to make changes, she was.... yeah, really Naive. But hey, it was true that Andor was in much better condition than Bania, by the sound of it.
He nodded, "Of course... that sounds like a wonderful plan." Richard said, forcing the nice words and nice tone right out.
And then at least when the brunette took off, she looked very happy with him. Well it was going better than the dinner at least then.
Once the Princess left, who had been the basic center of everyone's attention, well aside from his stupid sister anyway... everyone just kind of did their own thing or started up with the person next to them.
Richard found Nae looking at him, looking pretty drunk. Ha, well... he had said he hoped she could handle it. All that wine before the dinner, and then the really good stuff during? Richard was a lot bigger than her, with a really high tolerance, and he was still feeling it a lot, but he wasn't quite slurring his words yet either.
"That was good wine at dinner wasn't it?" he said, his voice raised to seemingly address the group, but he was looking sideways at Nae with an amused expression.
He had hardly given her any attention that night, knowing his father was watching... and then this Javier guy didn't look like someone to ******** around with either. Actually, Richard did kind of want to mess with him because he didn't like him already, but he didn't need to have him going off and telling the King about any flirty s**t either.
Worrying about stuff instead of just doing it was annoying....
'Cause I took that s**t out.
