  Elena knew that she would be recoiled the same question as to what makes her the girl she is today. And though her story is painful to tell, she though it would only be fair since she asked Tate that same question. However, she also knew that their backstories would tense up the room, especially when Elena started to show signs of heart break. Tate responded with the right action by wrapping his arms tightly around her body and hugging her close to him. As Elena listened, she sucked in her bottom lip and bit her lip there. "Let's not thank each other anymore. Let's just be glad that you came up to me that day and started this," said Elena as she wrapped her own arms around him and let her head remain resting against his chest. "By the way, when you talk like that, you don't sound like a sap. You sound sweet, because that's what you are, Monroe."

♣ Thats how they fell asleep; in Tate's bed and wrapped in each other's arms, the contentment of sharing their troubles bringing the sleep on easier. He didn't stress about them sleeping together in his bed. For once, he didn't overthink something. This just felt right, it was even like they fit perfectly together.Elena was right, Tate did find sleep but it didn't stick well. He woke up several times that night just to make sure everything was fine. He'd just lay there with his eyes opened and listened out for anything unusual. But nothing came so the boy would slowly fall back to sleep. Now it was morning and Tate was fighting to stay asleep. He liked this, he liked laying down with Elena and just resting, he didn't want to wake up yet and have to take her home. But they had to wake up. Tate slowly opened his eyes as sunlight poured through his window and into his face. Nice. Tate groaned and removed an arm from around Elena to cover his eyes. "Elena" he grumbled groggily. "Wake up, do you want breakfast?" Yes, he was ready to make her pancakes or something. Meaning he was going to get his freezer pancakes and put them in the microwave. If he made actual pancakes, he'd probably burn it. They survived the night, they could allow themselves congratulatory pancakes. The circumstances that the previous night had brought on was actually quite comical. Here Tate and Elena were, together. The two of them probably would have spent the day together regardless. But Tate wanted to keep her inside until Ash was awake to let him out of the mountain ash ring so he could take her home. " I can make you pancakes. We have fruit, too. Or cereal."

Elena woke up the next morning in Tate's arms. She heard her name, barely, but it was enough to make her slowly lift up her head. Hearing Tate's grumbling question, a sign of him just waking up as well, Elena yawned. She meant to answer his question, but when opening her mouth, a yawn fell through. "Sure," she said, now a smile on her face as she sat up. Fixing a strap that fell down her shoulder, Elena also took the time to adjust her hair which was probably a mess. Following Tate out to the kitchen, she seated herself in the nearest chair and listened to the option that was granted for her. With a smile, Elena answered, "Mmm, a nice bowl of cereal sounds like. I don't care what you have, I'll eat whatever." Elena rested her elbow on the table and her chin in her palm.
When Tate was generous to escort Elena home in Kailan's car, she looked to the door of her own house, not even moving once. "Hey, Tate," said Elena, turning to face him. "You're the best friend I could ever ask for." Leaning over, she pressed a kiss to his cheek again before turning back to look at the door. Before she could open the car, she saw Jeremy open the front door and stand on the porch. His hands were shoved in his pockets, his eyes on the car that was parked in front of his house, and a small smile on his face. "Jeremy?" Elena asked in shock, even if he couldn't hear it. Turning to Tate with a huge smile, Elena told him, "C'mon! I meet your family, you meet mine." Elena laughed lightly and got out of the car and running for her brother. Jeremy met Elena halfway, walking towards her and catching her when she ran into his arms. "I can't believe you're back!"
"And I can't believe you stay out all night with a guy," teased Jeremy as he released his sister.
"Oh, hush, I just gotten into a bad car wreck and Tate let me crash at his place for the night."
Jeremy nodded his head and looked to the blonde. "Ah, gotcha." Soon, his features shifted into a slight confusion. "Wait a minute.. Elena, you don't have a car. What happened to my-"
"Hey, Jeremy! Meet Tate!"

♣ Tate accepted the kiss and compliment, returning it right back to her. "And you're the best friend that i could ever have". Tate could see it, you know, them being together. He could see himself holding her in his arms at night before bed, them waking up and mirroring grins before getting on with their days. Days ignited by stolen kisses and thrown compliments. Him protecting her with his life. He could see it all, he wanted it all. Even if she didn't feel the same way, Tate felt like he should tell her. They just spent a night together in his bed, he didn't want her to feel like he was subliminally putting a move on her. Tate was ready to let Elena go have her time with her brother but she invited him to meet him. This, too, wasn't how he expected to meet her brother. Then again, Tate sprung Kailan up on Elena last night with no warning. Tate got out of Kailan's car and strolled up to where Elena and Jeremy were. Tate's eyes grew wide when Elena changed the subject from the car wreck to himself. The blonde waved sheepishly at Jeremy, smiling as he did so. "Hey. I've heard a bit about you" It wasn't a lie. Jeremy had come up a few times since the two had met. It was nice to actually see the guy in person. Despite the heartwarming family reunion Tate was witnessing, the only thing on Tate's mind was the fact that there were alphas in town willing to flip over someone's car and now another person could be added to their list. That alpha had to flip Elena's car for a reason and if it had anything to do with Elena personally, Jeremy was at risk. Tate looked between the two siblings, trying to remain charming. " You know, Elena, I can just call you later or something. Give you two time to catch up" He didn't want to leave her, he wanted to make sure that they were both fine but he didn't want to intrude on their sibling moment.

Elena stiffened when Tate approached she and her brother, Jeremy, for a greeting all thanks to her wanting to change the subject on his car. It was as if Tate was meeting her dad, but in a way, he was meeting the man of the house. Jeremy eyed the man in front of him and instead of a firm handshake, Tate just waved. Elena looked between her brother and her friend for any signs for likeness. Before she was sure, Tate assured Elena that he could call her later and give she and her brother to catch up. Rubbing the back of her neck, Elena nodded. "Alright. I'll see you later tonight or tomorrow at school," said Elena. As if Jeremy wasn't there, she walked to Tate and gave him a hug. A big one, like their common ones before school. When releasing him, Elena gave him a sheepish smile and grabbed Jeremy's arm to lead him inside. When closing the door, she turned to her brother and asked him, "What are you doing back?"
"Well, from your voicemails, I thought that you missed me enough and I decided to come back. How's Bonnie? Safe from the vampires?" Elena walked up to Jeremy and put her hand over his mouth, turning her head to the door as if Tate was standing there. She didn't want to risk the only normal thing in her life to be engaged with the supernatural world. "What is it?" Jeremy asked when he was freed from Elena's hands.
"I just don't want Tate to accidentally hear or something and get curious about vampires," warned Elena brushing strands of hair behind her ears.
With a con laugh, Jeremy grinned at Elena. "So, what is he? Your boyfriend?"
"He's a good friend of mine. I will admit that I find him romantically attractive and would like to engage a relationship sometime, but I doubt he finds me that way." Elena shrugged innocently, but then remembered that her brother was physically standing in front of her. With a big smile, she wrapped her arms around him and let out a happy laugh.

♣ Tate hugged Elena and gave Jeremy one last awkward wave before departing from the two. He kept telling himself that it was okay to want them to have their time alone. Maybe he should tell Elena about what really happened last night. If he told her about the alpha and him then maybe she'd be more cautious. Or she could run for the mountains and never want to be his friend again. Admitting that he had a crush on her was easier than telling her what he was. If Tate had heard Jeremy mention vampires then maybe this could have all been easier on him. But he had the choice of whether or not he wanted to hear conversations at a distance and he'd never try to pull that on Elena. Last night with Kailan and Ash was different, he wanted to know what they were saying. Right now, listening in on Elena and Jeremy would be an invasion of privacy. So Tate honked his horn twice and gave one last wave before pulling off. He needed to stop thinking so much about everything. The Alpha didn't kill him or Elena last night and that was all that should matter for right now. He'd worry about the alphas when he gets home.
♣ As soon as he got home, he went on a search for his siblings. " Family meeting!" he shouted. Now he was going to construct a meeting and he wanted to be involved. " Kai! Ash!" He waited for his siblings. He wasn't exactly mad but the boy did look a tiny bit annoyed. They conferred without him, now he wanted to be included. " Okay, I had a show down with an Alpha and the guy literally said 'this isn't over'. What am I going to do?" Tate pointed at Ash. " And I'm not leaving town. If you want to go then go but I'm not leaving Elena." Tate passed both hands through his hair frustrated. He needed a shower to get his hair back to normal. "Kai, I-I know you don't want another Madison, neither do I, but I'm not leaving her. She's my friend and....she needs me, okay? And even you have to admit that she's doing good for me also. I just can't leave her. And, on top of all this, her brother just came back. That's another person!" Tate groaned. " What if the Alpha attacked her because of me? What if it's my fault that all of that happened last night?"

Elena immediately texted Bonnie to inform her of the good news regarding of her brother returning to town. They had a romantic relationship before they briefly broke up, and maybe the long nights of not being with him would change that. Sure, Elena found it rather weird that her best friend was dating her young brother, but the heart wants what the heart wants. As soon as Elena closed her phone, there was a knock on her door. With an amazed smile and brows knitting together in confusion, Elena commented, "That was fast." Turning to head for the door from the kitchen, Elena stiffened at the sight behind the door. It was Klaus and his rather smug smile. His hands were behind his back, his eyes rested on Elena, and his ego was nearly making it hard for her to breathe. However, he wasn't invited into the house, and he's still a vampire, so he couldn't enter. "I thought Stefan told you to get your hybrids out of town if you want your family back," threatened Elena with a hand on her hip.
Klaus's sheer smirk faltered slightly as he replied, "They are out of town, 'Lena, and I kept my promise, be sure that Stefan shows to his side of the promise. Nonetheless, I came here to congratulate Jeremy on his return. After all, I'm sure you have forgotten that I can rip him to shreds."
Elena grown a new profound confident as she remarked sharply right back at the hybrid. "And you forgotten that you can't step foot in this house." Klaus simply looked at the door frame, at the lintel, and then at Elena with a con smirk.
"No.. But I can do this," commented Klaus with a snarl as he reached a hand inside, grasp Elena's neck, yanked her out and slammed her against the house beside the door. When hearing her name being shouted out by Jeremy, Klaus peeked his head out from behind the door with a smirk. "Ah, ah, ah, Jeremy. Make a move, then your sister's neck will be broken."
"You won't kill me. You need me," choked Elena, watching as Klaus's burnt hand, because him entering the house, was slowly healing. "Just get your hybrids out of town." When the grip was loosened around her neck, Elena explained, "I think you keep forgetting that you need my blood for your family to come to life. One wrong move, Klaus, then I can turn myself into a vampire. And no more blood for your precious family. Get them to stop attacking me, like making me get into a car wreck last night." Now Klaus grown really confused. Releasing Elena, he stepped back and squinted his eyes at her. Elena slipped back into her home, but lingered by the door, just in case.
"My hybrids are out of town, doppelganger. No hybrids are here except for me," confirmed Klaus, searching Elena's face for any answers.
"But.. What attacked me last night then?" asked Elena, as if Klaus had the answers himself. "The eyes were glowing, it was big, it was growling, I thought it was-" Elena trailed off, not even more confused. "Never mind. Just.. Stay away from Jeremy or I will turn myself into a vampire." With that, Elena closed the door and heaved out a deep sigh.

With a sigh, Kailan brushed a hand through her hair, preparing for the rant of their life. When Tate was done yelling and using his outside voice inside, Kailan exchanged heated looks with Ash before facing Tate. "If you think 'bout it.. Elena could tag along? You guys could say that you're on a trip down to... the beach, I don't know. I'm just worried that they will follow you for any reason at all." But then Kailan realized something and furrowed her brows. "Wait. Alphas don't 'come back'. They kill on instincts. Why did they spare you? They would tear me to bits. What the hell.." Kailan was confused, but she knew that they needed a solid plan as to what they are going to do. "Tate, I think you should go back to Elena. You need to watch her now more than ever. There's no Mountain Ash around her house, the wolves followed her once, what makes you think they won't a second time now that you aren't there."

Even if he was with Jeremy, one Alpha could rip them both to shreds. And the one he saw was pretty ******** big. Tate was a werewolf too, man. Why couldn't he get big like that? He could use the extra muscle. "I-I don't know why it didn't kill me, okay? But thats not exactly the first thing on my mind right now." He would be completely okay with inviting her to leave with them but how long would they be gone? He can't make her leave this town out of no where, her friends were here, they both went to school here. Sure, they could pick up and leave for a week or two but who says the Alpha couldn't follow them wherever they went? " I don't think running away would be such a good idea for me....I can't ask Elena to leave. Not when her brother just got here. That Alpha's already got both my scent and hers. I just....don't know what to do" If Tate was an Alpha and had a vendetta to kill someone, he'd surely do it. " Should I tell her? Maybe she'd understand, you know? 'Hey, I'm actually a werewolf and what attacked you wasn't a drunk, it was another werewolf. Run away with me?' Does that sound good? Should I text it to her?" Tate held up his phone to Ash and Kailan, looking at both of them. Okay, he usually didn't like being pegged as the youngest sibling but right now he needed some guidance with this. " I can't stay with her 24/7. And it'll be a little suspicious if I'm dusting Mountain Ash around her house. But what about if she leaves her house? What about on her way to school? Or hanging out with friends? I can't be with her all day every day. I can try but you know that's not actually possible. To her, this was just one incident and I could be seen as a very possessive guy and I don't want to go there, I'm not possessive!" Yes you are, Tate. You're just mildly possessive. " But why her? Why me? Even when I wolf out, I don't cause trouble. We keep ourselves as hidden as possible. So why me? Guys, I don't want to bring them to us. I don't want you guys to get hurt."

Kailan allowed him to let his rant turn into a rapid fire speed and his volume slowly increase into a shout. There was a brief pause before he started to question everything again, his tone at a neutral sound. Grabbing his phone from his hand that he extended out in a hint at one point of his argument, Kailan put her hands on his shoulders. "Relax, little brother, I got this. You just worry about tonight. Tonight is a full moon. I know you never trust me with your romance life, but trust me when I say this: Do not text something like that to her. There are different ways she could take the text. One. She would be offended that you didn't tell her to her face and tolerate you. Two. She wouldn't believe you and think that it's me or Ash ******** around. Three. She would believe you and go running without letting you give her a proper explanation. Either way, this whole thing could blow to bits if you text or call her. No no. This needs to be done face to face." Turning his body so that he was facing the door to his room, Kailan told him, "Get ready for tonight, go to the woods at your normal spot, and meet me in the morning with clothes where I'm chained up. Ash will chain me up like usual, and I'll meet you in the morning. Just one thing: Don't stress. You get stressed, then your wolf does and it ends up bad for your wolf and Bambi out there." Nudging Tate to his room, Kailan shoved her hands in her back pocket, along with his cell phone. "Just remember: relax."

Later that night, Elena didn't get a call from Tate, but a text. It told her to meet him at the woods. The woods, around this night? Elena took a risk and loaded her wrist up with a present that Alaric granted her when she started the need to defend for herself. It goes on her wrist. One hard punch in the gut, two stakes shoots out and spear the vampire nearby. Or werewolf. Either way, going outside while it's a full moon is a risk. However, she knew that there was only one werewolf in this town, and now he's a hybrid: Tyler. Hybrids aren't victims to the moon anymore. "I'm gonna meet Tate somewhere," called Elena to Jeremy before leaving the house and walking out. Now that Jeremy's car is crashed, which she ruefully explained to her brother, she needed to walk. But the location that Tate texted was common. Elena shoved her hands into the jacket that she wore on her torso, prepping herself as she carefully waked through the forest, past all the branches and the leaves. It took her a few walking distance to finally pinpoint just where Tate said to meet him. Honestly, she thought that she gotten lost and should just tell him that she would see him tomorrow at school, but she couldn't just give up yet. Lucky that she didn't because soon, she saw Tate. "Hey there, blondie," said Elena with a big smile as she walked towards her best friend. Leaves and branches crunched under her converse as she stalked towards the male. However, from his face, she could guess the sudden expression of befuddlement. "Something tells me that you didn't send this text. Lemme guess: Kailan." Didn't think it was so harmful, Elena chuckled. "It's okay. At least she told me where you were. Now we could hang out before we go back to that prison called school."

♣ Tate heard Elena coming a while before she reached him but the boy held on to the feeble hope that she wasn't her, maybe some random person. But it was her and she was all smiles and jokes. Tate wasn't. If he hadn't seemed serious before, he was serious now; serious and afraid."Why would she-?" Tate didn't need to ask himself that. No! He'd prefer telling her over her ever seeing him the way that he'd soon become. "Elena, you have to go" he said sternly, looking at her. He couldn't do this, he wouldn't do this."I'm sorry Kailan made you come all the way over here but you cant be here. Please, go back home" The screaming would start eventually. Tate could always hear Kailan, no matter how much distance was between them. He hated that she had to be chained up like an animal but it was either that or she'd hurt someone. Tate didn't want to end up hurting Elena tonight. He didn't want to do this, he shouldn't have trusted Kailan with this. "We can't hang out tonight. Go home". This time his warning came out more mean. He usually just stood around and waited for his time to come but now this. 'Don't stress out your wolf' she said 'it'll end up bad for your wolf and Bambi' she said. Well, what if Elena was Bambi in this case? "You just gotta get out of these woods.Go" Tate actually started to walk away from Elena now, a small attempt to put more space between them if she was walking in the opposite direction like he told her.

Elena's facial expressions shifted when Tate looked serious and dark. He was trying to get her to go away. It was a first. Elena was surprised, and did step back at one point when he sternly ordered for her to go home. "You're not the boss of me," said Elena, as if she could be brave, but still wore confusion and concern on her features. "Tate, what are you-" Elena asked, but he coldly told her to go. As he started to walk deeper in the woods, her dark eyes flickered up to the moon. A full moon. Her first thought told her werewolf, and then her reality told her to not think such foolish thing. Nonetheless, Elena had to find out. Even if he was a werewolf and could rip her to shreds. She'll run or trust him to not kill her. Casually jogging up to catch up to Tate, Elena put a hand on his shoulder and turned him to make him look at her. "Hey, what is going on? Let's go back to your place. How about that?" Dropping her hand down, Elena felt her breath hitch as she told herself to relax. Her heart beat was racing, her hands were slightly trembling, and worry was washing all over her. Running now wouldn't make much of a difference. "Tate, just tell me what is going on."

♣ He was geared up to really tell her to go, run if she had to. He was ready to yell at her to get the hell out of there but he saw how scared she was. It was the full moon, he noticed everything: her hands, her voice, he could practically hear her heart. "No,no,no" he whimpered, his voice cracking. "Please don't do that. Please don't be scared. Im sorry" Tate risked himself and pulled Elena in for a hug, trying to take in as much of her scent as he could so he could be familiar with her and not try to hurt her. "My sister is an idiot, okay? She shouldn't have told you to come here, it isn't safe for you. Please go home, Elena. Please. You don't need to be scared, you just need to go" He wanted her to atleast get a head start before the change started, it would take long. Tate let go of Elena but refused to look her in the eyes incase his eye color changed. She was too stubborn, she needed to go. "Don't stay here, okay? You need to go. I-I'm meeting someone for something, okay? It's just not safe" Dumb excuse but maybe it'll work, you never know. "Go back home to your brother. I'll call you when i get home. Or you know what? Elena let out a deep breath, one that made the fog appear before her lips. She seemed to have hurt Tate emotionally from just how scared she was, but she couldn't help it. A foot almost shifted back when Tate approached closer to her, but she remained in place and let him collect her in his arms. Instinctively, she wrapped her own skinny arms around his broaden back. "Tate, what on earth could you need at midnight from someone in the middle on the woods," breathed out Elena as she gripped his wrists. He wouldn't even look at her in the eyes anymore. Now she was growing worried. In fact, her body told her to run away. Go away and run as fast as she could. But her feet stayed planted on the ground. Bringing a hand up to Tate's face, she caressed the side of his face. "Tate.." Elena whispered, bringing his face to look at her. And she saw it. Gold eyes. With a small gasp, Elena lowered her hand, but the one that held his wrist didn't dare to let go. It wasn't until she heard Kailan's pained screaming when she did let go and look off to where Kailan's shouts were. She heard the same kind of cries from Tyler in the midst of changing. Looking to Tate, Elena remembered their last night talk, and how Tate confessed something deep. "You mean a lot to me, Tate," she admitted again before turning around and speeding off in the woods for her protection. Not because she was scared. Only because she was trying to protect herself and make sure that Tate's wolf self doesn't make a mistake. Kailan's cries of pain were distracting, and often got Elena to get scratched by branches hanging low from trees. Cheek, arms, legs, torso, anything. Elena thought that she gotten at least a mile between she and Tate, but the worse happened as a giant trunk of tree got in the way and before Elena could react fast enough, she tripped. Her ankle twisted, but not enough to break. Just for a sprain. But it did hurt like hell. Thanks for adrenaline, Elena grunted as she lifted her torso off the ground and slowly rise to her feet, which was hard to balance now. "Tate's a werewolf.."
