Hvergelmir was profoundly relieved both for Camelot's offer of protection as well as to hear so many of the knights around her evincing their intentions not to bring any of this to violence. Although she knew she'd probably been entrusted with magical knighthood powers with the expectation that she'd look after herself, she wasn't naturally a brave person, and she felt fundamentally ill-equipped to pit her skills (or lack thereof) against so many of these people. They all looked so much more comfortable with all of this than she felt.

There were knights of many stripes in the area around her. There were ones that looked like Camelot, wearing sturdy armor with ease; there were people that looked like ancient Greeks and Roman gladiators who'd popped right up out of the past; there was a half-naked guy in snow boots who appeared to have more muscles than she was pretty sure were found in Gray's Anatomy. There were people in fancier court dress who looked like they might be fencers from the French Revolution, and some, like Pharos, who at least looked comfortably dressed for travel and hard work. She could picture them all being knights.

Herself, on the other hand -- she'd drawn the short straw in the knighthood department: a dress she could hardly walk in, much less fight. No armor, no Liefeld pouches to carry stuff. It didn't inspire awe, or terror, or confidence. It probably inspired Joan Rivers to shake her head sadly. Most of what she'd learned in her pathetic knight career so far was how to scream, flail, and run away. She was counting on these people around her to be as competent as they all looked.

Well, at least they seemed friendly. That was certainly a relief. And even among what were obviously friends and comrades (and a wife! It must have been a stroke of luck, Hvergelmir thought, to both be knights.), Camelot hadn't abandoned her to her own devices. He let her hide in his shadow, still clinging with one hand to the cloak of the only person she knew.

"I don't know a single other person here," Hvergelmir confided to Pharos, who'd been friendly enough to make conversation. "I hope we're not going to have to do a bunch of icebreakers. But isn't it weird to be invited to a party where the host is kind of.... hiding? Like -- why?"

Camelot was not sure quite when his brain had short circuited, but it had. He stood there helplessly as Dendera clung to him, and then watched in mild horror and surprise as she slipped away from him and started to cling to his wife.

These were strange and trying times, but he felt he was strong enough to handle them.

Wait, pearls?

He stared and opened his mouth to say something, but only a small eep escaped his throat. He would have to get some pearls now, he supposed, and it would be a nice gift. He loved his wife and wanted her to know that, though he was not sure now was the time for relationship advice and also, what? How was this happening?

"Alright, ladies," he said, waving his hand and mastering himself. "I think we can stay a bit more focused. We'll wonder about pearls and ah... other such things. Uhm. Later." He glanced at Shalott as he stepped closer, putting his hand on her arm lightly. He felt his cape not come with him as quickly as it should have, glancing back at Hvergelmir and Pharos. He chuckled, but said nothing, letting the newer Page cling to his cape if it helped her feel more comfortable. He also knew Pharos was a good choice to confide in, and that the two young women would be just fine in each other's company. He would keep an eye on them both, of course.

"I think we should look around this place a bit more, don't you?" he said to no one in the group in particular. "It's always interesting, coming to new worlds, and this one is no different, despite how we got here. If we're here for a reason, let's find it. Maybe speak with some of the others. It's good to be here with so many other knights, might as well take advantage of it and meet up, hm?"

The accoustics of the arena were being put to the test as the slew of knights conversed and speculated. Some of those that grouped were friends and allies, others met with strangers to try and figure out just what had brought them to Mars on this particular night. The low mummer of all the voices in this place of perfect accoustics was almost deafening. And confusion seemed to be the most common sentiment.

Some of the speculation wasn't completely untrue. Babylon's theory of critical mass might have had some weight to it, whether that be here in this moment or in more of a figurative notion. Sessrumnir, Bifrost, and Kairatos ideas of a lecture or lesson and team building exercise was a little more accurate.

Thankfully for the sanity and safety of the knights involved neither Vesuvius' fan club idea nor Hvergelmir 'knight club's annual single-elimination death match tournament' rang true.

As the vast majority of those summoned had finally made their way into the Coliseum and others began to try and go home or make mention of exploring the place a clue finally made itself known.

It appeared out of seemingly nowhere. Back from the podium just a bit, within the small open area of the Coliseum floor. A huge rolled scroll, the size of a large decorative rug. Upon first glance it may have appeared ancient but closer inspection would question that fact. The paper appeared to be old and weathered, except it wasn't even paper at all, rather a fine mist that seemed to slowly ebb and flow in the guise of a scroll, intangible to all who may try to touch it.

There was one thing for certain however and that was the immense amount of energy it radiated.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 14, 2014 10:44 am

Kairatos:

"Well that's new..." Kairatos almost snapped to attention as the scroll rose up with it's drifting mist. The energy signature had his attention more than an mysterious looking scroll. It was sort of frustrating not to know a thing about it, since it seemed to belong properly to the world he was sworn to, but no... no his first memory from his wonder was about a long dead horse. Not exactly relevant to the situation, though it had otherwise been relevant to him personally. "...The hell?"

He could reasonably explain the power signature of Camelot, but this was an unknown, and that sort of made him both curious and suspicious. Was some new figure about to jump up and inform them that they needed to all bow and obey? Because the hell with that. He had signed up to get away from pompous dicks snarking snide orders. He'd file a complaint. Any by complaint he meant a boot up someone's... complaint box.

Pharos listened to Camelot and Nifhel talk before she was sufficiently distracted by Dendara and all her affections, draping herself on people and speaking poetry. IT highly amused Pharos and she couldn't but to grin at the interaction. The information that Camelot, had a pretty Knight wife was tucked away for a later day. She bet that the lady was probably just as helpful as her husband and so she wanted to talk to her sometime.

She turned as Hvergelmir spoke to her about ice breakers and she shook her head. "I don't know. I doubt that will be necessary. Name will probably sort of pop up from time to time, just have to keep your ears open, and yes it is a bit weird. This sort of thing happened to me twice, only the first time it wasn't only knight and the second time well I wasn't powered up, but I'm sure something will happen soon enough." She nodded before her attention was back on Camelot, who suggested exploring.

She looked back to her new white haired friend because everyone was Pharos' friend and grinned, "I say exploring sound fun," she started until something caught her eye noticing the scroll. "Or we could go look at that," she noted pointing to it.

He caught the nod coming from a nearby knight (Luxor) and nodded in greeting before pushing himself up and off the seat so he was standing again, a smile on his face. "Chariots and gladiators come to mind for you, too? The page then squinted a bit, a rather obvious thought suddenly dawning on him.

There were lots of other knights; Ashur was only then realizing how many others he really hadn't met. That, he figured, would probably change regardless of what exactly went on with...well, whatever the reason they were dropped off on the Red Planet without warning. Had his attention not been drawn away by Valhalla, he probably would have asked the other knight his name. And maybe asked a few questions about what inspired his outfit.

He regarded the green-garbed knight with a smile of his own. "Been alright," he replied to Valhalla's greeting. "Finding reasons to power up and do something as a page, but progress feels..." and the page made a face at that, squinting his already squinty eyes a bit more. "Slow-going, I guess you could say. Nothing too serious, thankfully." Ashur waved his hand a bit to dismiss the thought. "Anyway, how's life been treating you?"

Themiscyra coming back and contributing to the conversation they were having about Mars's landscape caught his attention briefly, and he raised a brow at the idea of visiting her wonder. He would have commented, too, if she hadn't beaten him to it. "Since we're already here you oughtta be offering me a tour of your wonder first, yeah?" he said with a smirk. "But sure, I wouldn't mind any visitors." At Babylon's suggestion he nodded rather enthusiastically, finding the idea of stopping by Mercury where the weather seemed like the complete opposite of where they currently a little more...appealing. "Ooh! Or yeah, some--

Of course, he was cut short when he felt the sudden flash of energy and the appearance of a new, shiny mist-like...scroll? Make its appearance. The page narrowed his eyes curiously, then just...had to ask. "So, is that normal at these kinds of things?"

Hvergelmir already had one hand bunched around a fold in Camelot's cape, celestial lamprey that she was. As a result, her natural reaction to the sight and feeling of the large scroll near the podium was to give his cape another tug for attention as she pointed at the same thing most of them were all noticing simultaneously.

"Um, Camelot...," she said, her other arm outstretched toward the object, "Did someone just magically FedEx us something?"

Dangle something shiny in her face, and Danika was pretty quick to explore. That the floor opened up in the floor to show a scroll just sitting there, well. Themiscyra ditched the group she was speaking with without question or hesitation, jogging down the rows and dodging bodies till she hit the floor. Her eyes were bright, flickering over the other knights to see who else would go examine the thing with her. There was no hesitation in her steps as she drew closer, peering at the thing curiously. It was only then she began to realize it... wasn't quite solid looking.

Red eyes turned towards the only other source of a high energy signature--one who just happened to look the most like a traditional knight as she knew them (Camelot). She hadn't been blind to the big ding on her radar, but until that point hadn't had the urgency to speak to him. However. "You've got a pretty strong signature yourself, so I'm gonna run with the idea you've been around a bit." She was ignoring his apparent visual age. If a pre-teen was more experienced in this war than she was in her twenties, she wasn't putting any weight on ages any more. "Any idea what that is?" She looked back towards the mist-scroll, taking another step to see if she could see any markings on it or the area around it. What were the chances touching it would lead to the same results as the Arc? Yeah that wasn't a fate she wanted to tempt. But the energy it threw off... her fingers twitched, fists clenched as she eyed it. It made her curious, made her want to poke around till she figured out what the source was.

Why fear it? It was on the planet her wonder was on. Why fear something that was stashed away in a place she'd consider a neighbor?

Camelot looked surprised as the large scroll appeared, wanting immediately to get closer to it. It radiated a power unlike anything he had felt before, but at the same time, it maintained that innocuous feeling, lacking threat. He was not sure of his instincts, he never was, but he felt like this was just another part of the purpose they were pulled here for. Whatever it was, and whatever it meant, Camelot wanted to get a better look at it.

The knight of Earth looked at his little group, eyebrows lifted in curious wonder.

"Yes, it does seem like we've gotten some sort of delivery over there. I think I should like to take a closer look at it, if any of you want to come along. Maybe stay behind me, just in case, but I don't get the feeling that it's a threat." He knew, at least, that Hvergelmir was going to stick to him. Mostly because her hand was grafted to his cape. He preferred it that way, since he was better able to keep track of her. Glancing over at Shalott, Dendera and Pharos, he nodded his head before he started toward the strange and fascinating thing.

He paused as a new knight he had never met before spoke with him, and shook his head.

"I'm afraid I don't know what it is, not yet, but I intend to get a good look at it, and see if there's not more to learn. It has to mean something, and I think it might simply be... waiting for us, to reveal itself fully. The purpose of why we're here, I mean. Ah. So. No." He smiled apologetically at Themiscyra, "if you'd like to come over with us? I'll go first in case it's something dangerous."

And that he would. If it blew up suddenly, his body would be their shield, since he couldn't call his actual one. He did not get the idea that it would, willing to take the risk this one time, but that didn't mean he was going to throw bodies at it. Once he got closer to it, he noticed that it was not paper, and that it was shimmering and ethereal in appearance. He, of course, reached his hand to touch it and his hand passed through it.

"I wonder what this is for?" he said mostly to himself, his brain almost audibly whirring as he looked it over. A list of some sort? Of them? Of their names and wonders? Or something more? The form of it had to mean something, even if it was not really paper, it was recognizable as a scroll. Some sort of pledge? When they traveled to their wonders, they had to recite a pledge. He was lost in his thoughts, for a moment forgetting the rest of the crowd as they were trying to do the same thing he was.

Delphi, quite as she had been, had been listening to the others around her. It wasn't that she was spying on what people said but the voices here simply carried so well she couldn't help but hear a large chunk of what was being said. She had, like many others, made her way inside the coliseum and had been looking around the place. She had seen a few she had met, and breifly interacted with in the past, but she didn't approach. She wasn't sure about where they were, or rather the reason why they were here, and she was distinctly uncomfortable with the whole thing.

Her arms had, at some point, come up to cross over her chest as she moved around slowly. She didn't want to draw attention to herself, not when there were so many here whom she didn't know,

She had been a knight for how long now? A year...longer..yes longer. But she hadn't gained in power and had up until recently been against, or at least at odds, with being a knight and being involved in this whole war thing. She had a life, a rather busy one, and didn't like the idea of being involved in a war which was destroying parts of her city. It was the Shadow Queen incident which had brought her around a bit more. Sometimes one had no choice but to change their views, that had been the time for her. But then what? She wasn't good at fighting, never had been, and she didn't trust people particularly either. She had her set of little hills to get over; and she would try to.

Her first test, the first step, would be trying to socialize here she figured, slowly of course, she wasn't about to jump in and play social butterfly and start talking openly with everyone gathered here, or even with several of the people here, but she'd try and talk to a person or two - at some point. She had been just walking slowly, pacing a bit even, when her attention had caught on the podium and something new appearing. A...scroll?

Curiosity flickered within her and she made toward it at a slow pace, watching those around as she approached it. As she drew closer she paused and stared. Ok so it wasn't paper. "Fog?" She questioned softly with questioning, curious, purple eyes locked onto the thing. It was giving off a good amount of power also. "How..?" And why? it had to be significant in some way - right?

Niflhel had noticed the scroll too having wondered off to walk around the coliseum for a bit. Pausing when he heard Camelot mention maybe they should walk behind him. "Ya'know. I'm not sure a scroll in a place like this is something you should consider dangerous unless you're worried about papercuts..."

He moved to stand beside Camelot when he reached the scroll. "Probably a decree or something. Hopefully slightly useful in answering why we're here - I'm sure that'd be nice with as many of us that are curious as to why."

While Camelot was busy thinking Niflhel shrugged and attempted to see what touching the scroll would do, though his hand slid through the scroll. "Welp, worth a shot right?"

Luxor frowned at Megiddo, then shook his head.

"I'm sorry, I did not realize we already knew that." He hadn't known it, but he was not going to argue the point. He was just trying to catch up to the same page everyone else was on. He looked at her sigils but did not know what they meant, just that they were not, apparently, Mars or Pluto. He nodded his head, thinking he needed to study more about the planets now that this was all a part of his life.

He looked at Ys as the other man started to panic, shaking his head and scowling at him, looking firmly rooted to the spot he was in.

"Don't start to freak out," Luxor warned, though he did not say much else than that. The questions, good points or bad, he would leave to Megiddo to answer. She liked to talk more than he did, and he was already feeling winded by all the words he'd already used in their conversation so far.

He glanced toward the strange, sudden surge of power, blinking at the oddly powerful... piece of paper? He found that its appearance, at least immediately, made absolutely nothing clearer. Looking at his little group blandly, he waited to see if either of them had opinions on this new turn of events.

"What is that?" He asked, though he already knew neither of them would have an answer. They were all on the same level of confused.

So Babylon's suggestion of meeting on Mercury was met with mixed responses. Perhaps it made sense that they'd been brought here instead, for the weather, but surely there was another planet in the whole damn solar system with a climate approaching, oh, room temperature? "I'd share my cape," he offered to Themiscyra, but that would only take care of one inappropriately-dressed knight.

Besides, things were finally happening! Things that didn't involve endlessly talking about what planet it would have been better to go to. So, like, they should totally go check out the thing, right?

Leaving his seat (and all of his shed layers), Babylon followed the apparent mass-exodus down towards the newly-appeared scroll. "Yes," he said thoughtfully, circling it, a hand pressed seriously against his chin. "This sure looks like - a thing." He tried to touch it. His hand passed through it. "A little help here?" Babylon appealed to their absent host. "I mean, you obviously wanted to host a convention. Kinda rude to leave us hanging."

It was probably to everyone's benefit that the plot had thickened when it did - otherwise he'd been considering getting up and doing standup.

Hvergelmir had a pretty good view of the action, peeking around from behind Camelot as he attempted to reach out and touch the scroll. His hand passed harmlessly through it without grabbing hold, though, and for a moment, she felt her heart sink; she had, she realized, been hoping that she was finally going to get the kinds of answers she'd been looking for in this world. She'd hoped that something would be easy and straightforward -- that information would be provided to her for once without it being held hostage by the universe in exchange for her labors. She hadn't asked to be a knight, but it sure did ask a lot of her.

So close, she thought, furrowing her brow. We're so close to something changing, to finally learning something -- maybe even learning why we're here. Why does the universe have to play coy now?

What Hvergelmir usually did in situations like these -- situations where she met with an unexpected obstacle in life -- was to give up at the first sign of hardship and wallow in self-pity for a while. It was often a good strategy, since it ended in no further wasted effort and usually resulted in her rewarding herself with comfort films and macaroni-and-cheese. In this case, however, she was quite literally stuck with the situation until someone did something about it: several other knights had already tried to teleport away and failed, hadn't they?

If this scroll was a puzzle, they might have no choice but to solve it.

If that was true, what would Tara do in her place?, she wondered.

Tara was the big thinker and the problem solver. Hvergelmir tried to put herself in Tara's shoes, to ask the questions Tara might ask in a situation like this. "Did you try blowing on it?" she asked no one in particular, reaching a hand out from behind Camelot to try and wave a small gust of wind at the scroll. Maybe it unfurled, just not at a human's touch. "Or maybe there's a magic word. Like if this is some kind of a, uh -- protection spell, to keep people from damaging it. I haven't seen anything like this before, but I've seen other kinds. Barriers and things.

"Open sesame?" she tried, only half-facetious. You really never knew.

Niflhel seemed thoughtful as he watched others attempt to grab the scroll to. "I wonder. . . " though it seemed Hvergelmir might've had the right idea.

"It's possible it's like the sword in the stone too. Only a certain touch? Like King Aurthur." Ironic that Camelot was standing not far away from him. Though something kept nibbling at him. "Camelot or well anyone that's been around DC for a while, I don't know if any of you were there or not but there was a Halloween Ball a few years ago. Before Knights really started showing up - to my knowledge, while the Parallel Court still existed more than just Zirconia - there was a uh... woman that showed up for the senshi. You could tell she wasn't really there but it was sorta reminiscence of this."

He was looking at Camelot now as he spoke. "Do you think this is something similar to that?" Wondering who was listening and might've remembered that scenario.
