Shoneah nodded. Yes, that was sound.
"Oh, I made these for you last night," she told him, picking up the weapons she'd made. There were four rude spears, their points whittled down from the tips of the dragon's ribs, their shafts made from some straight branches she'd found lying about. They were fitted together so as not to require any string, but if they were thrown into something the heads would probably come off.
She held them out to him and asked, "You have my pistol and my sword?"

"Yes, here," Eron gave back the sword and pistol.
He was glad he was able to, they weren't weapons he was use to or comfortable with. Though, as he took the four rude spears that she had made for him, he was going to have to get use to holding a weapon. There wasn't anything he could do magic wise at the moment, and even if he could, Eron was sure making a person trip would only do so much.

Shoneah didn't miss the look on Eron's face, and she couldn't help but pity him. He was so far out of his element ...
"If you'd like, I can make you something easier to use," she offered softly as she began to clean her gun, "but it will take some time. I do think we should prioritize finding water, and once we've got that we can worry about other things."
Things such as making more tools to use, finding more food, and ultimately looking for someone who might be able to help them.

Eron smiled and nodded.
"I would like that, but you're right. First, water."
In fact once they found water, they would probably find a few wildlife, which meant they could stay in one place for a small while and regroup. He nodded for the trees, and hoped there was water somewhere in all of that.

Shoneah finished cleaning her gun and stamped out what remained of the fire, burying it in dirt to make sure it wouldn't start a forest fire.
"Eron," she murmured softly, a thoughtful expression crossing her face, "are you able to fly with your wings?"
She had come across races who had wings and could not fly, and races with wings who could fly; and while she knew that each race had their own abilities, she was doubtful about the size of Eron's wings. Still, there was no harm in asking, and if he could fly it would make things easier for them.

"I can," Eron nodded, "I know it doesn't look like it. Really none of the flying races look like they should fly, but I suspect magic and light bone structure is involved."
Most races capable of flight had hollow bones like a bird, but even then logically science said that shouldn't be possible. Yet, bipedal flying races existed and weren't uncommon.

A slow smile crept over Shoneah's face, and she relaxed slightly. "Wonderful," she murmured. "Perhaps when we're ready to go, you could fly up and see what's around us in each direction. If there are deciduous trees, or if there's a clearing, or a clear line through the trees, they may indicate water. Perhaps even a stream."
That would be good luck for them. Very good luck, especially in comparison to their luck of the day before in ending up here. Wherever they were.

That was a wonderful idea, normally he flew rarely. He lived close enough to the school where he could walk to work everyday instead of fly. Though he did fly on occasions on the weekend or during school break.
"That, I can do," he agreed.
At the very least, give them a good direction to go in.

"Who knows?" Shoneah mused, venturing a slight smile. "Maybe you'll even spot a settlement of some kind."
She wasn't going to hold her breath on that score, though.
She nodded at the rolly case. "We should have something to eat and look right away. The sooner we get going, the sooner we'll find something - and if yesterday's heat is anything to go by, we'd be best off trying to find something before it gets too hot."
She took some of the dragon meat, which she preferred to the raccoon, and started eating it.

Eron took some dragon meat as well, it wasn't bad smoked. Though smoking did tend to make most things taste decent at least, though the longer something had been smoked for traveling the harder it was to chew.
He wondered absently, what sort of people lived on this land. What race they might be.

Eron did not seem to be overly conversational while he ate, so Shoneah took her cue from him and let him eat in peace. She ate only a few strips, though: sure, they did have probably enough to last them a few days, but there was no telling how long it would have to last them, or what might happen in the meantime.
When they had both eaten their fill, she licked her lips and sighed. She was thirsty, and her lips were beginning to crack, and both situations were likely to get worse before getting better.
"Ready to take a look?" she asked Eron, smiling faintly at him.

"Ready, I'll be right back," Eron told her.
He took a step or two back spreading out his wings from his body. It felt good after spending a night on the hard ground. Then taking a deep breath, he pushed himself off the ground, slightly feeling the magic that most people figured was the cause for the flight of winged beings.
He went up high, but he could still be spotted from the ground by an average human. This also meant he would be still able to see and make out detail on the ground since he only had 20/20 sight.

To the north (presuming that like Gaia, the sun rose in the east and set in the west) was barren rock, the area where Shoneah had entered the world.
To the east, the forest continued for a while, but then thinned out and turned into the same rocky terrain as the north.
To the south, the trees grew thicker, and the changing hues of green indicated a mixture of coniferous and deciduous trees. There was also a long, meandering gap in the trees, several miles away.
To the west, the coniferous forest continued out of sight, but with no change in either density or variety of trees.
Back on the ground, Shoneah watched Eron anxiously, and after a few minutes she called up, "What do you see?"

Eron decided to head back down, it often got more windy the higher one went and he didn't want to be yelling over the wind. Once he was on the ground he pointed south.
"The trees are much thicker there and there seems to be both coniferous and deciduous trees in that part of the forest. There's also a gap between those trees... I think a number of miles away."
So there might be something there, but at least it meant that place had more rich soil and possibly a chance of water.
"The north is all rock, the east has forest that eventually leads to rock and the west is all forest but the trees are all coniferous and it just seems to go on forever..."
So he figured south might be their best bet.

Shoneah nodded, and she was grateful that he hadn't just said 'south' but rather explained it all for her.
"South does sound like it has the best chance of having water," she said, checking their supplies once more. "We're going to have to get going right away, though, if it's a few miles to that gap. If that's where water is, we need it as soon as possible. Come on."
Once more, she slipped into the role of being in charge. She didn't mean anything by it: it was simply the way she was. She'd been in a position of authority back in her tribe, and she had grown accustomed to people looking up to her.
