Ruby

If the situation wasn't so grim, Claudia would have laughed at Adi mocking Alexis about Dorain's physique. Sadly, the laughter would be put on hold until Luficial is brought down. In the reflection, the boy's were left alone to ponder why Ruby asked in a rash manner. Nyru was on the same page as her, but she didn't get to hear an explanation from Laxion because he broke the question. All she saw was his angry eyes in the mirror before a shattering noise filtered through the silence. Figures he would notice the hidden camera in the room, and break it out of frustration. She didn't blame him though because it was rude to intervene in their privacy. After the connect was disrupted, Alexis knew it was time to tell her of Ruby's life and death struggle. The blonde let her feet dangle of the bed before standing up and allowing her gown to drape over her legs. She turned around and broke the tension by explaining how Ruby thought was dying and would use the last of her strength against Lucifial. Claudia couldn't grasp how the Jewel's work because she had only ever seen one in action and it wasn't embedded in the spider woman's body. En' radial extracted the power from the Crimson Jewel freely in their fight, but Ruby drew her power from within. She suspected that after time it would naturally become a part of her and that what Alexis is saying is the unfortunate reality.

Alexis waved her hand over the reflection which made her arcane magic form her clothes. She then admitted how she didn't understand the process of the jewel, but wants to save Ruby regardless. It took Claudia a moment for this all to sink in, silent tears rolled down her cheeks, and her hands tightened into fists. Adi mentioned how many causalities they have already suffered and don't need another. Claudia finally found her voice again and said, "How can we save her? For all we know, that angel will show up here any minute to lead us to Zakernand. Lucifial is upon us as we speak..." The blonde looked to the others hopeless as she started to fall to her knees in disrepair.

Ruby had ran off to the nearest room she could find and cried one the window seal with her head buried in her arms. She calmed herself bit by bit until the tears fell without her projecting the slightest whimper. The albino stared at the devastation just outside and realized how childish she was acting. Why should she get to live when so many honorable souls died the other day in battle. They must have been as scared as she was and has hopes and dreams for their futures. Their families will never seen them again and they probably never got a chance to say goodbye. Through all the rubble, Dante was seen below trotting through the ruins and bodies. At first, Ruby was surprised and felt a need to go after the dog but she stayed inside. Dante was leaving since he trotted further and further into the ruins before he disappeared from her sight. Little did she know, the dog was connected to Lucifial, and his influence over the demon reactivated yesterday when he made his announcement through the skies. Similar to Alexis's trick, the dog was acting as a mirror for the Lord of Darkness and was now being called back to his master since he had seen enough. Ruby thought the reason why Dante left was because he could smell death on her and didn't want to hang around. Besides, she had ever intention of sending the mutt away so he wouldn't have to witness her ultimate demise. Ruby kept staring blankly out the window wondering what she should do now instead of pitying herself.

Adi had a good point, "I don't know!" Alexis retorted as she brushed a hand through her suddenly freshly brushed hair - did she just do that? There wasn't a brush. She let out a great sigh as she tried to understand everything that was happening. Truly it frustrated her so much, she was almost a scientist of her own making, she was a wizard that never graduated Merlin Academy and is the first person since Entei and Merlin to have ever really tried understanding the Jewels and their synergy with life rather than being afraid of them. Yet - now she cannot do anything about the Jewel's effects. They were but remnants of a greater instrument sent from the Angels themselves, and mortals attempted to destroy it, made war from it, no wonder Lysandiel says the angels lost faith in humanity.

Alexis nodded and agreed completely with Adi's next comment, too much death has already befouled them all. It was really beginning to weigh down on all of them without remorse. That was when Claudia, after her break down of tears and comprehension, turned to Alexis and asked her for help. Knowing Lucifial's power was growing with each passing hour she knew she had to say something... or try and do anything. "I don't know" Alexis admitted, shaking her head. "My inventions have only worked on Jewels that physically exist outside the body. I've never experimented with absorbed Jewels, i didn't truly believe it existed when i first encountered it... " her explanation all seemed hopeless. "I have nothing to stop whatever is happening to her" Alexis finally added, slouching down placing herself on the window ledge behind her. It was just then that the morning became dull and rain began to hit the window behind her.

Meanwhile Lucas was awake and pondering in his room. He did not know where Dorian was, he hadn't bothered to wonder. This was the first time Lucas had met him and he's heard stories, tried to believe in what happened at the Zoltan Crisis, but had often dismissed it though telling his team that he believed them. He had his face buried in the palm of his hands. Lucas thought about the future and what they had to do, he was waiting for Lysandiel to arrive, he always looked to Lysandiel when he didn't know what to do. He also feared for Ruby, it was the heavy running steps going past the living quarter that caught his attention. He recognised that run anywhere.

Lucas opened the door and ventured down one of the dimly lit corridors before finding her on one of the windows, looking out at the half ruined city beneath the dull, rainy sky. It was almost like the Land of Crows was crying for its dead, but then again, it almost always rained here. Getting slowly closer he asked "Ruby?". He was fully dressed, as expected, and his hands hung loosely yet formerly at his sides as that familiar friendly face stared back at her. "I know you're upset... and you don't know what to do. But please" he said, hoping to calm her and let her have hope, "you have to believe that anything is possible if you put your heart to it. It's how justice works" he finished with a small, hardly noticeable smile as he sympathised with her, then standing closer beside her atthe edge looking out the window with her.

Laxion and Nyru meanwhile had gotten dressed and prepared themselves for the day ahead, they waited on a sofa outside in the corridor for them all to meet soon. "What is Zakernand like?" Nyru asked, looking to the elemental, knowing he had been there before. Laxion said "It was calm and warm, hills, cliffs, forests" he then looked at Nyru. "It's beautiful - well... I hope it's still just as."

The sun has set, I close my eyes
I pretend everything's alright...Drowning in anger
I can't pretend everything's alright...Please don't let me fall forever...
There's a hate inside of me like some kind of master!

I'm holding onto you, I'll never let go

I need you with me as I enter the shadows

Alexis and Claudia both were distressed and about the topic and they rightly should; Ruby was close to them both. Adi herself wished no harm or such a terrible burden or fate on the child, but at this point nothing could be done. They knew little and could do even less, and Zurial and become remarkably quiet and withdrawn from her. The gypsy hadn't even felt his consciousness stir when she was speaking with Dorian and knew the angel had heard nothing of it.

Claudia was right about one certain thing however, time was against them. The angels could come any moment and they'd all be swept away to another new land. Adi had prepared her things before coming out all her bags ready in her room. But there was still time for tea...as it would certainly calm the nerves of them all. So the young woman began to do just that prepping the kettle and taking out 3 different mugs. Once the water was steaming and hot, she steeped the tea for a time and soon was passing a tea cup to each woman.

"It's tea that will help calm the nerves and clear the mind...we are all very stressed right now but we have to keep calm as much as possible..." she breathed out feeling the steam of the tea on her cheeks before taking a sip.

Ruby

Alexis magically straightened her hair as she pondered what to do with Ruby. If Claudia was asked a question about the Jewel's she wouldn't know what to say other than that there power is eminence. A single Jewel can corrupt and twist the wielder's heart and soul making them so most frightening monstrosity imaginable. Ruby is far from a monster, but she is unpredictable and there were times where she would have certain mood swings. Often the mood swings are out of control or hard to comprehend, but if the child feel into the wrong her hands her heart can be converted. Ruby may be strong but right now she was venerable and that's what Lucifial is looking for. Claudia couldn't sit there all day and cry knowing that the angel was on his way to transport them. She grabbed onto the side of the bed and stood up shakily, stilling staring at Alexis for ideas. She had read in Ruby's letters how exceptionally skilled she is in arcane magic. Any magic that can possibly count towards learning more about the Jewels is good enough for her. Ruby also wrote about a wizard named, Entei, but it was just a brief entry of him and nothing too extensive.

Adi was an expert in calming the nerves by brewing the girl's a pot of pure tea with actual tea leaves. The fragrance smelled like Christmas and speaking of which, the holiday season will be less than cheerful. Last Christmas was spectacle either, but she wanted to at least see Ruby smile and spend one wholesome Christmas day with her little sister. Adi poured the steaming liquid into three mugs but Claudia let it sit and cool instead of taking it right away. She thanked the gypsy with a nod of her head while wiping away her tears. Alexis repeated herself once more before saying that she had never conducted a test on a Jewel that was adsorbed within a body. Furthermore, she said that when she encountered this theory it seemed highly unrealistic until she came across Ruby. Does this mean someone has documented their experiences with the Jewel inside them or someone else? If so, whom is this person or did she just manifest this thought from her vast knowledge on the subject. There's so many questions that branches off into more questions and it could take years to find the true answer. All hope feels lost.

The arcane magic user finally explained that there was nothing she could do to stop these turn of events. She sat down on the window seal as a dull light in cased her. Rain started to pour against the window and Claudia listened to the sound it made before responding with her own desperate idea. "You said she wants to use that last of her power to fight Lucifial, right? Can't we just stop her during the battle before she uses the Jewel? Can't you tell when she's about to use it?" The archer glanced over hoping to arrange an agreement.

Meanwhile, Ruby continued crying until she heard a soft low voice call her name. She looked up and through her watery vision, she saw a formally dressed instructor in his white elvish looking attire. His long locks complemented his beautiful eyes and she couldn't help but give a small smile. With his advice, he gave her courage to go on even though it barely sounded hopeless because she felt like justice had befell her. She stood up and placed her delicate hand against the rainy window by Lucas' reflection. Slowly she turned to him and looked into his unwavering eyes. "You know, I'm probably the most selfish person you'll ever meet. I haven't thanked you enough for all you've done for me. You and the others gave me a purpose and all your love is within me. I feel like its going to overflow. I believe that we'll win against Lucifial and revive this world. I'll believe in you and others most of all. Even Lysandiel. Keep showing me that justice exists by staying by my side in this last battle." she said inspiring.

Alexis was already feeling exasperated, the weight of the conversation was mind-numbing and left a bitter taste in her mouth after all the frustrated talking. For just those few moments of silence, that was when Adi brought in the freshly brewed tea and never before had Alexis been so happy to see it. She poured the steamy hot liquid into their mugs and with a "thank you" Alexis eagerly took hold of the mug, holding one hand around it firmly to warm her hands like most adults did - seemingly immune to the scorching mug. Alexis often wondered how her parents did it, she thought it must come with age. The first sip filled her body with warmth as she felt the hot liquid trickle down her throat, it was a waking sensation, something she felt she needed.

Then Claudia went on to ask if Ruby could be stopped. Alexis shook her head swallowing some tea and admitted "It's difficult to read Ruby enough as it is" thinking back to the mood swings, and her innocence that masks her power and maturity. "And even then the Jewel's power can only be stopped with another Jewel-" Alexis stared wide-eyed, but she quickly dropped the expression and said "I can channel the power of the Sapphire Jewel. It's a long story" she said before she explained how she came to be able to use the Jewel's power "But i do not posses the Jewel itself, and there for my power compared to Ruby's is obsolete. And then on top of that using another Jewel against her would be unwise" she went on and on, her heading swaying almost as she weighed everything up from her years of research and said "the energies would either destroy to consume or create and wander - they're chaotic in nature and not meant to be used by mortals...". She often wondered about that last part, why would an angel of the High Heavens bestow such a gift to even his most loyal followers, surely they must have known it was unwise? Perhaps, she thought, the Omnijewel in it's complete form was more stable, and it was man's frustrated and hastily conducted actions, destroying it, that made the remnants so cataclysmic.

The rain outside the window was a tranquil reminder to Lucas that the world will always endure, the rain would come and go and a storm would be but a small obstacle before the light and warmth of day. He just hoped this eternal night would end soon with Lucifial's soul destroyed or locked away at least, forever. Lucas did not want to pity Ruby any more, she was wise enough, wiser than she knew, and he but only respected and agreed with what she had to say. Staying calm, his spoke in a hushed tone "We are your friends and family as well as your allies in battle. You will never be alone, not as long as I live. The Angels may seem strange to you, but there are things in this world that no one understands, and expectations that everyone believes in to keep moral. I do believe some angels believe in us, but they're fighting their own battle as much as we are. " he then smiled and looked at Ruby. "Shall we meet the others? I believe Nyru and Laxion are waiting in the nearby corridor"

"You're uh... sister. I thought I would meet her?" Laxion asked, but Nyru shook his head, "She had to leave on Occult business apparently... in the middle of our battle."
"She seems to work hard at the Occult"
"She does - I barely see her... I was expecting her to stay longer, but from what I've heard - the Occult are less tolerable than our Guildeam. It's like they still live in the century it was formed."

Both ladies were grateful for her tea...well for the most part. The cup left steaming eventually cooling down before their eyes as it went untouched. Adi herself sipped greedily of her tea; physically and mentally relieved as the tea's remedy sunk into her body and relaxed it. Her mind though was still running rabid with thoughts and ideas; worries and concerns.

She had nothing to offer to the conversation that Alexia and Claudia were having; knowing less of what was going on with Ruby and less about the Jewels. Instead, Adi took a seat in a plush armchair fit for any royal to sit in and certainly not a gypsy. Though she could hear their conversation and pipe in as necessary, but the young woman was very clearly separate from her companions; the distance seeming to be greater then observed.

Sipping her tea she eyed the outdoors, the rain coming down in sheets, and perhaps distant thunder was heard but she couldn't be sure. The rain was good though, it would wash away the ash, the blood and partly the stench of the remains that littered the city still. But it would take many rains and much more to wash away the horrors of the day prier.

Ruby

Adi secluded herself to a corner of the room and Claudia felt like she had been rude by not taking the tea right away. She finally scooped up the mug in her hands and drank it as if it was her last cup of tea. The light brown liquid warmed her frigged body from the inside out as Alexis rejected her idea. Ruby is an enigma and the only person that could read her, to an extent anyway, is Lucas. Even the wise instructor has his boundaries on the child. The blonde looked up from her steaming mug and informed her that she had control over one of the Jewels too. Although, the control was indirect and Ruby's power was basically raw energy. She was sure that Alexis probably suggested this method for Ruby, but the complications must have been to great or else they would have done it by now. She also explained that two colliding Jewels is unwise because the outcome will become something beyond their understanding. Scenarios of Ruby being consumed by her own Jewel played out in her head and the albino's screams haunted her. There is also the possibility that she could kill her best friend in the process unknowingly. She would never forgive herself if that happens.

Ruby admired the sound of the rain because it may be the last time she hears the pitter-patter of the water drops against the window. The suns rays will break through the grey clouds and she'll feel the warmth touch her skin. She hold that warmth dear and cherish every little moment she has left with a smile. Lucas's whispering voice reached her ears and hearing that all her friends are family causes tears of happiness to fall. Lucas assured that everyone would be there by her side until the time comes, and she believed him with all her heart. The analysis of the angels was still lost in translation, but someone of them, Lysandiel being the few, was ready to fight with the mortals. He believes that the humans can succeed and since he's a higher power his words were absolute. Anyway, Lucas suggested that they shouldn't keep the others anticipating their return so she nodded and ran down the hall.

Claudia finished her tea and set the fragile mug down as she composed herself. "We must look fresh for the boys. We don't want them to see us in such disgraceful states." she pretended to smile before exiting the room. Down the hall, she spotted Ruby pushed up against the wall, out of Laxion and Nyru's sight, and once they looked away she made her move. She crawled up behind Laxion using all her stealth, and whispered in his ear, "There you see him. Sitting there across the way. He don't got a lot to say, but there's something about him. You don't know why but you're dying to try and kiss the boy."

At first her voice surprised the boys, both of then jumping in their seats and turning to face her, staring like confused dogs. Laxion didn't know what she was talking about and neither did Nyru, but then she told him to kiss Nyru and he just looked to Nyru like a begging puppy for help befor eNyru exclaimed "Give us some space Claudia!" in a joking tone as he swiped a harmless shadow at her face.

That was when the maids came in to escort them all to the top of the tower where Lysandiel awaited for them. Altogether they grouped up and made their way to the high incline before they stared over the recovering city. The view was truly astounding and the feel of the fresh air flowing through Laxion's hair made him feel truly at home. Lysandiel awaited, surrounded in the light he emitted in his golden armour. "I hope you have all rested well" he said, first, his voice ringing like a harmonic low hymn. He continued to speak as a golden portal ripped into existence behind him, it was oval shaped and glowed warmth, it was like looking through a golden, watery mirror that was difficult not to get your mind lost within fi you stare for too long. His wings crawled within the air behind him, the tentacles of light foreboding them all, reminding them that he was a higher being. all accept for Adi, of whom his hood barely recognised. The High Angel of Redemption was ignoring the return of Vigour. "I remind you all one last time - you may not come back the same, if you come back at all".

The thought sent a shiver down Laxion's spine, Nyru was used to hearing it. Alexis nodded and said "What is our lives measured against the vastness of our worlds" with mention of Non-magic Earth, sitting blindly on the other side of the dimension they shared with its more magical partner. Lysandiel then turned to Dorian, only for a moment before looking back at the others - he was suspicious, he felt the taint within him and yet it was different to Adi's, it was alien. "My brothers of Redemption await on the other side, as does the Oracle, of whom I'm sure you're all familiar with." Lysandiel explained. The Oracle was the acting leader of all of Zakernand, neither king nor government. He was but the all-seeing eye that cared for the land of the spirits from his perch upon the Temple of Dreams. It was he and his Soothsayers that foresaw these events just days before it unfolded...

"Let's go" Laxion said. Lysandiel nodded just once before turning to walk through the portal first. Laxion followed and awaited the invigorating energy that would surge through his body as he wa transported to the north. Shortly after, the rest followed and they would find themselves in the Temple of Dreams.

She would have enjoyed more tea; only just managing to calm her still strained and frazzled nerves. Yet as if wanting to torment her further and cause even more stress they were to head to the top of the palace to meet their angelic guide. Though he said nothing, Adi could feel Zurial's agitation, which only fueled her own.

It only got worse though as they reached their meeting point. All of Adi's saddle bags condensed into one that was flung over her stiff shoulders. Lysandiel glanced at everyone, even Dorian for a brief moment, which the magicer did feel and see. However his eyes never wandered to her, rather avoided her entirely; ignored Zurial's presence and clear return. For all appearances sake and already feeling like the odd one out, Adi had not let her wings out. Yet she still felt like the outcast and it fueled her temper, and she wanted to snap at the arrogant angel, but held her tongue; this time.

Instead she mumbled a snide comment under her breath which was covered up by Alexis speaking. "...who says we aren't changed already..."

Lysandiel continued to speak of their destination, and who awaited them. Rur'Adika had heard of the Oracle, but never meeting him let alone the change to wander into that territory; she had hoped to one day. This however was not the way she would have preferred it. Taking up the rear however with Dorian a step ahead of her, Adi glanced back at the recovering city one last time saying a few words in the tongue of the gypsies before she was fully transported to the Temple of dreams

Ruby

Ruby laughed so hard she almost fell over as the boys jumped in surprise. Laxion looked to Nyru for assistance, and then Nyru lashed out on her playfully. Elevating a shadow from the floor, he swiped a transparent shadow across her face that phased right through her skin. It felt like a tingly sensation like when your foot goes numb and she giggled while brushing her hand over her cheek. Claudia walked over to the trio admiring her sisters commitment through this hard time. Naturally, she took her and squeezed it to show Ruby how much she cared about her. Ruby didn't know she had caught on to her little secret so she did the same not thinking much of it. The clone maids strolled down the corridor and lead them to the very top of the tower. On their way up, Ruby and Claudia viewed the slowly reconstructing city as they passed by the window slits. So much had been renewed in a short amount of time and the citizens were returning to their normal lives. They made it to the breeze exposed top as Laxion posed like a supermodel when the wind brushed through his black hair. Lysandiel met them, his golden armor reflected the light along with his gorgeous wings. Ruby became ashamed of what she had said to him last night and hid behind Claudia and Alexis.

Lysandiel assured that they all had a wonderful sleep before a rippling, golden portal ripped open behind him. When he remained the team that they may be changed by the end of this battle or may not survive, Claudia's heart sank like a brick. She looked like she was going to be sick, but hid her wide eyes expression underneath her bangs. Alexis replied mustering all the wisdom she could, and Claudia took it deep into thought. Lysandiel moved his hood to peer at Dorian for a second before continuing on. Another angel awaited their arrival as well as the Oracle, whose face was masked in Ruby's mind. She had heard of his maintaining authority over Zakernand, basically to keep things in order, but she's never seen him in person. She couldn't be the only one right?

Laxion entered the portal eagerly after Lysandiel and the rest of them followed in a line. Adi occupied the rear, but Dorian accompanied her somewhat. Ruby held in her excitement, forgetting all her worries, and drifted into the portal.

The fog had hidden most of the city when they first arrived. The great gates appeared before them, with guards station above and beside them. Gargoyles lined the walls and purple lights could be seen attempting to push through the fog. However - once they were allowed entry to the city there wasn't a single sign of fog. An enchantment, Horakhty had told them, kept fog out so that their glorious capital could be seen from anywhere within the walls. On the main street they split, with Team Sun taking their things an saying goodbye to the Therian merchants, who gave them some Octen as payment. Half of the royal guard took them where they needed to go, whilst Nyru, Claudia, Horakhty and Team Sun made their way directly to the Black Palace. "You wanted to speak to the Queen" Horakhty told them, "perhaps you will get your wish."

The City of Crows rises majestically against a brooding sky, its skyline dominated by soaring gothic spires and expansive halls adorned with intricate carvings and stained-glass windows. Pristine streets wind through the city, lined with lilac-hued streetlights powered by the enigmatic glow of Darcane magic, casting a soft, otherworldly light over cobblestone avenues and verdant public gardens. While the city's architecture speaks to its deep and ancient roots, whispers of a time before the reign of Queen Declasia linger in the details—defaced vampiric motifs now replaced by her regal insignias. Here and there, subtle nods to ancient Egyptian influences weave through the gothic aesthetic, adding an air of mystique to the city's already enigmatic allure. The atmosphere is one of dark sophistication, a place where shadows invite curiosity and grandeur coexists with an air of long-buried secrets. ((Kudos to Chat GPT knowing how to write better than me))

They were eventually taken into the Black Palace, situated in the centre of the city beneath a great spire that watched over the entire city. Team Sun were left to wait in a large hall whilst the others went into the next room. The floor was polished black stone, the walls were similarly made from the same material half way up, where the rest was wood panelling. Dark carpets lined the centre of the floor, with tapestries lining the walls with paintings of great events decorating the panelling. Lilac chandeliers lit the space from above. It was all so grandeur. After what felt like an eternity, Nyru opened the double doors and faced Team Sun. "Her Majesty will see you now. Please follow me - and speak only when spoken to."

Micha'el felt his stomach drop, what exactly was the Queen like? He had read many things about her, heard many others. She could be benevolent and thoughtful. Assertive yet reserved. But she could also be criticizing and sharp-tongued. The people of the City of Crows call her the fairest queen to ever exist... but many outsiders have called her an immortal witch, or worse - vampire.

The next room immediately opened up and was a huge circular throne room. Above, Micha'el saw pale stained glass lighting up the room, with a grand chandelier in the centre. Purple and black fabrics danced from fittings between the glass and stone, cascading unnaturally towards the walls where they fell straight and proper. At the end of the carpet Micha'el then saw the floor raise a few steps, and on it was a large, yet simple and pristine throne. And perched upon it was her - Queen Declasia. She sat straight, hands neatly resting on each armrest, legs elegantly crossed. She was more beautiful than Micha'el had ever known her to be written or depicted. Her skin was pale, with an almost lilac tinge to it that gave her an otherworldly beauty. Her hair was white, pulled back into a neat bun. Her clothes, black and regal, were practical and form-fitting, with a cape that flowed from her shoulders, opened to reveal her graceful frame. It spread beneath her body, covering the throne itself. Micha'el bet it made the seat all the more comfortable. Beside her stood Horakhty, now in completely different garb. He wore heavy dark robes with the sigil of Declasia marked on its chest. Beside Declasia stood Claudia, one step lower than the Queen and Horakhty. Nyru then bowed to his Queen, who noded with a smile. He then turned to face Team Sun, looking them in the eyes and reassuring them with the briefest smile. "Team Sun, allow me to introduce you to Her Majesty, the Queen Declasia of the Queendom of Crows." He then turned to the side, facing both parties, "my Queen - at the behest of your Vizier, Horakhty, I introduce Team Sun." With formalities completed, he moved now to stand beside Horakhty, one step lower just as Claudia did on the opposite side. Micha'el swallowed, quickly getting down onto one knee and bowing his head. Out of the corner of his eye he made certain that his teammates followed suit. Once they all did so, Declasia stood, revealing how tall she was. She then raised a hand and said "please, be at ease. Your respect is appreciated - but I would much rather you be comfortable for this conversation." She then waved her hand, commanding shadows to lick the floor beneath them and form into a regal black chair for each of Team Sun, and her subordinates beside her. Micha'el sat, alongside Lottie and Tsuna. Much to his surprise, a seat made of pure shadow was surprisingly comfortable. Now that everyone was sat, the Queen spoke up again. "Vizier Horakhty has briefly described your teamwork to protect the Therian Caravan on its journey through the Cold Moor. He has also informed me of the attack you suffered last night, to which I must commend you. Whilst I am unsure whether to thank you, or be concerned by your ability to attract deadly hemomancers, I cannot ignore the fact you have safely escorted Horakhty back to the city. I will see to it that you are given a place to rest within the city for tonight - what comes thereafter depends entirely on the next topic of our discussion. Why do you seek to speak with me, Team Sun?"

Tsuna Miki

The fog concealing the capital was indeed enchanted as it lifted as soon as the group entered. Guards high and low lined the gates, gargoyles perched along the wall, and purple light tried to break through the thickness of the fog. The Therian merchants separated from the group stating their gratitude and presenting Team Sun with some Octen for their work. Claudia, Nyru, and Horakhty escorted Team Sun directly to the Black Palace where Horakhty practically guarantied their audience with the Queen. Tsuna should have been elated, but a certain smell held her attention as they approached closer putting her on edge.

The gothic spires silhouetted in the brood skyline as expansive halls adorned with carvings and stained glass windows stretched before them. Spotless cobblestone streets were lit with the soft purple glow of street lamps fueled by Darcane magic. It gave the city an otherworldly feel, especially illuminating the verdant public gardens through the terrain. The architecture was rich and deep and there was even signs of vampiric, now defaced, motifs with replaced regal insignias. Egyptian influences peaked out around the city adding to the mysticism of it all. The sophisticated ambiance lured the curious in and once here a treasure trove of secrets awaited. Team Sun was lead inside just underneath one of the great spires and left in a waiting room next to the throne room. The polished black floors and walls integrated into one another, but the ceiling was comprised of wood paneling. Sleek black carpets furnished the walkway and tapestries depicting many illustrious events decorated the walls. A grand chandelier pouring out lilac light dangled above them making the room feel calm and inviting. However, Tsuna still couldn't escape the smell of rotting harrowsteed, not bird, like she had familiarized herself with. She tried to tell herself she was delusional as she paced back and forth until Nyru granted them passage. She knew next to nothing about the Queen, but speak only when spoken to was a start.

They entered a massive circle throne room with pale stained glass lighting the room accompanied by another large chandelier in the middle. Purple and black fabrics draped between the glass cascading unnaturally until they hung down straight. Coming to the end of the carpeted road was a small rise in the floor that turned to stairs leading up to the throne. Queen Declasia sat upon it properly with her arms rested on the armrests and her legs elegantly crossed. Her skin had a lilac hue, a bit similar to Horakhty, and her snow white hair was pulled back into a neat bun. Her pitch black clothes were form fitting complimented by a velveteen cape that fell down her back and pooled over the chair. Horakhty was at her side in heavier black robes still displaying the sigil of Declasia on his chest. He definitely had a different air about him, one of greater importance than originally expected. As for Claudia, she stood to the side on a step lower than her Queen proving her status and worth to her nation. Nyru bowed gracefully and introduced Queen Declasia with her full title before introducing Team Sun back. He took his place on the step on the other end from Claudia leave the team to their own devices. Micha'el automatically bowed respectfully causing Lottie and Tsuna to follow suit. However, when Declasia stood tall and announced that she wanted this conversation to be less formal, Tsuna was surprised.

Shadows covered the floor beneath them all, including Declasia's subordinates as she conjured chairs for all them. Tsuna was a bit skeptical, but didn't want to make a bad impression and took her seat glancing briefly at her teammates as they sat too. Declasia jumped right into the adventure Horakhty has informed her on. Although she praised their efforts, she wasn't positive that the company they've attracted was justifiable to completely earn her trust. Still they did as they were meant too and escorted Horakhty back safety which earned them a room at least. However, the room offer only stands if what they want to discuss with her is suitable or even agreeable. Tsuna knew it was her turn to speak and hoped she would find the right words to say. "Queen Declasia..." Tsuna paused becoming a bit nervous still pledged by the smell. She tried to block it out and continued with her rebuttal. "Necromancy, is what we wanted to discuss with you. Whether or not you know something, anything about it would help. We're searching for a cure you see, one that is brought on by undead aviaries-" She paused again unintentionally looking Claudia's way as she continued, "Perhaps other beasts as well." Claudia lightly raised her arm to stop she had been bitten feeling a tinge of pain, but refused to show it on her face. "My adoptive father is afflicted...please...I need help to save him." She didn't know if her appeal to sympathy would apply to the woman, but Tsuna was desperate by this point.

Micha'el watched as the Queen's allies twitched at the mention of necromancy. Nyru's eyes seemed to discreetly glance at Her Majesty with only the slightest turn of his face before he corrected himself. Micha'el also noticed how Horakhty looked to their Queen, expectantly. But Queen Declasia did not move an inch. Then at the mention of undead birds, Nyru followed Tsuna's gaze towards Claudia, wondering why the girl was focusing on her instead of the Queen for that moment. All was answered when she suggested the disease in question may be brought on by other undead things too. This time Nyru scowled alongside Horakhty, had Team Sun eavesdropped on their discussion earlier? Or was she making a good assumption? However, little did they realise Tsuna had a keen sense of smell. Micha'el then noted how Claudia subtly raised her arm to a spot on her body.

Queen Declasia took a slow and steady breath, breathing out through her nose with pursed lips. "When Horakhty had first described your request, I believed you would say something different once you stood before me. Yet, I am impressed. My apothecaries have by coincidence been looking into such a cure - although there are a great many diseases that come from the walking dead. Many can remain on a corpse for some time. The Plague, Hemorrhagic fever viruses, Hepatitis to name only a few. But you're not looking for a cure to Non-Magic Earth infections if you have come all the way to me. You believe this necromancy itself to have some kind of... illness? Tell me - what avians did your adoptive father come into contact with?"

Team Sun allowed Tsuna to give the information that she had managed to dig up concerning the undead birds and their glowing blue eyes. A description that made her nod. "Claudia" Declasia began, "please relay your mission report to Team Sun." After Claudia finished describing what had already been given to Horakhty earlier, Declasia said "I do not believe in coincidences. And this has proven my suspicion. Claudia, was there any such abominations that Tsuna has described among the Harrowsteeds? Perhaps the avian affliction was further along, and we were lucky to cull the infected before it got worse..."

((Feel free to have Claudia chime in with whatever information or discussion. Declasia won't be offended!))

Tsuna Miki

When the Queen exhaled through her nose and pursed her lips, Tsuna thought she was going to deny them information given the delicate subject matter. However, she was impressed that Team Sun stuck too their beliefs and she had coincidently looking into the same affliction. Although, some diseases remained on the undead like the Plague, Hemorrhagic, and Hepatitis, none of these were what they seek. As she eloquently put it, a disease from Non-Magic Earth was not on their radar but the magic of Necromancy itself. Tsuna nodded since she had hit her internal notions right on the nose and confidently answered her next question. "The aviaries look demonic with glazed over glowing blue eyes. Their bodies are rotting away, but they still retain their strength and resilience. Their movements aren't jetted like a corpse being directly controlled. More like their acting on command and know how to being an enemy down."

Her Team was definitely uneased by the description she laid out to which Declasia asked Claudia to report on her mission. Claudia nodded bravely and spoke precisely on the details. "We received intel that Harrowsteed have run rampant among our outer region had become a threat to the citizens residing there. Nyru and I were sent out to tame the herd, but what we came across were no longer the Harrowsteed we knew. Their flesh had rotted and their eyes had become a cold blue instead of warm red. They were almost impossible to reangle, but we managed to capture a few. The others we had no choice, but to eliminate. They were just as strong and resilient as any other Harrowsteed despite their decaying appearance." She didn't mention that she had been bitten out of fear of frighting them because she continued to assume that she was fine and that the herbs were working. When the Queen mentioned that all this was not coincidental and pressed Claudia further on her findings she responded shakily. "I didn't think anything of them because they never came down to attack but...there was a flock of birds up high circling the herd. They were too high to be distinguishable, but nevertheless, they remained until the battle was over." Claudia felt sick to her stomach as she looked at Tsuna who eyed her again concerned. The conversation had made her to uncomfortable and she had to stand as she addressed the Queen once more. "If the infection has spread to the Harrowsteed...what if they target something bigger..." She looked to Horakhty mortified. "What if the buffalo were to get infected...or worse the Therians themselves...Is there a goal? Something bigger at play? Or is this all..." Tsuna had to stop herself before she descended into madness. She hadn't realized she had been pacing and stopped to look into the Queen's eyes. "Do you believe there is a way to stop this?" She truly wanted to know her opinion or was all of it in her head.

Claudia revealed that they had experienced something similar, here, in the Land of Crows. So, so far away from Northern Occulas. Lottie couldn't imagine that the same disease was causing issues here too. But her mind fell back to previous conversations with her team, where they agreed with their leader that something evil was rising. She shook her head, this had to be related, just as Queen Declasia was stating. Claudia voiced her concerns surrounding the birds flying overhead during their mission. Tsuna then voiced her thoughts extending to whether such a disease could spread to other animals, or even people, including the Therians. Before she knew it, she was pacing and Lottie could see the worry and fear setting in.

"I do not know" Declasia put it simply, looking between each of them carefully, then back to Tsuna. She gestured for Tsuna to sit once again. Lottie couldnt help but be in awe of Declasia's poise and calm attitude, even during such a heavy conversation. "I have seen disease, famine, war, magical genocide... it does not always end with hope." Declasia's words struck a chord to Lottie and Micha'el, who exchanged a glance with Tsuna. Hope was a driving force at their academy. It could only hurt when someone states its hopeless. "As Claudia has suggested, we have contained the few remaining infected and will observe their behaviour. I also think it would be wise to have open minds, anything is possible. Nyru - I want our scouts to keep watch for the skies for any suspicious activity from local birds. Command the general to seek expertise from aviary enthusiasts and make sure he reports any foreign creatures."
"Yes, your Majesty" Nyru said, nodding towards her before taking a stand. "Also - prepare your shadow walkers."
"Of course, my Queen." Nyru glanced towards Claudia, giving her a reassuring smile as he took his leave from the room. The shadow walkers were the spies of the Royal Guard, of which Nyru and Claudia were a part of when they infiltrated various parts of Occulas to protect it from demonic attacks. Declasia then glanced back towards Team Sun and said "I will give you a safe place to stay within the city for as long as you need. Claudia, as punishment for not reporting the suspicious bird activity you must escort Team Sun to their dwellings in the upper district - I believe there is a spare manor in the same square as yourself." She then raised her hand before anyone could move, letting them know that she was not finished. "Horakhty tells me you are a team formed at Hope Academy. I understand that the Arch Magus Truesvale visited your headmaster recently, do you know why?"
