JJ didn't look away from the window, "you should remember, it was only yesterday. if you couldn't remember something so resent, i wouldn't have you for an apprentice." he took a drink before moving back to the table, "i was angry because you left without permission. you aren't locked away in here and forbidden from ever leaving like some princess in a fairy tale. however, you need permission. you are my responsibility, if you were to disappear i would be expected to search for and find you. if you wish to visit the families, i will not stop you, however not all are as kind or forgiving as our maid. remember that." he saw the boy was just pushing his food around now, "are you full?"

JJ nodded, "we will be practising out in the courtyard where you can do less damage if you screw up." he lead the way out to the spread of grass beside the lab. it was the best place for them, out of the way and wide enough to be able to move. "from tonight on-wards you will spend time studying a book of spells. as soon as you have the first memories, i will give you the next level up. however, today we will work on the basics of hand gestures and building of energies." he held his hand out, palm up, and focused his energy there in the form of a ball of fire. "hold your hand out like this and try to focus all of your energy there. when you feel you have enough, imagine it as a small ball of fire and use your energy to feed it and keep it alive."

JJ had pulled a book from his pocket and was reading as the boy worked, his complaint annoyed JJ and he looked up, frowning, "no. this is the basics, the building blocks for everything else. you will stay here until you manage to form a proper fire ball. stop complaining and find a way to do it that works for you." he looked back to his book, "try feeling the energies around and within you."

JJ glanced up at the flash of light and shook his head. "control it, boy. feed it little by little, not all at once." he looked at Demitri's face and saw something was off. "did you have another vision?" he asked, frowning. the boy wasn't touching anyone, and that seemed to be a trigger, but maybe with his power waking up it was no longer needed.

JJ flicked the boy's forehead again for lying, but left it at that. if he didn't want to share, the he wouldn't make him. it was of no bother to him. he went back to his book, waiting for the boy to get the ball of flames done so they could move on.

JJwas roused by his door being opened, but he remained 'asleep' to see what the intruder was after. hearing his name made his eyes open, but the yell had him sitting up and staring at the boy. "who are you?" it was obvious that it wasn't Demitri speaking to him, "what have you done to the boy?"

JJ felt his anger growing the more the man spoke through his apprentice. he dare to- Daren stood, refusing to answer, waiting for the man to leave the boy. he watched as blood was drawn with impassive eyes, but the moment Demitri fell, he was moving to help him. a hand was placed over the bleeding wound and he started to seal it. "you are in my room," he said as he finished closing the cut. the boy lost a lot of blood, but he would live and that was the important thing. "you were possessed, we need to take you to the lab." he scooped the boy up and hurried to his lab, knowing he had a short amount of time. "we can track the one who possessed you if we hurry. we also have to seal you to stop it from happening again." the doors opened as he approached. a swipe of his arm had a table cleared of the books and papers piled on top of it and he lay the boy down. "ok, try and relax. i have to enter your mind and find the link between you and the one controlling you. if it hasn't faded too much i can follow it and learn who had done this." dispute the man's words, he hadn't know who it was. there had been far to many enemies in his life to remember just one. he placed his hand on the boy's head and closed his eyes, trying to find that thread of connection

JJ was being blocked by all of the boy's thoughts, his efforts to find the thread for nothing, "Stop. Thinking." he growled as he searched harder, but found nothing. the thread had faded. "Damn it!" he let go of the boy and started to pace. "god damn it." he glared at the boy, "we lost what chance we had of finding him! i told you to relax!" he wanted to slap him, to beat the boy for his stupidity. he had a chance to catch the last of the guild, at least fo find them, but this idiot had ruined that. "you were possessed to get to me, now we have to ward you from it happening again. just lay still and don't move." he stood over the boy and held out his hands, controlling his anger by just a thread.
