Stormy shot Nevada a look for the very poor choice of words. Let's not talk about killing.
"Who were those guys? What did Cass mean 'never really came back'?" she asked Aria hesitantly, desummoning her own weapon as well; the totem appeared on her ring finger, which she was quickly sliding off to move to her pointer. It was hard not to ask a hundred questions, but all she had to remember was the icy glare they'd received from their leader and the cold metal of the flamethrower at her throat to regulate her words.

Cass turned to Aria. "Morris. Petra Morris - though she might have taken her maiden name back, now. It wasn't an argument until 'I don't have a good reason' wasn't good enough for you, as I recall. Because I still wouldn't say the reason I gave you was even the valid one. But like you said - you didn't know anything about me." Cass ran her hand over the arm that had been broken in memory, but her expression remained the same. "But October, 2011. Did Aria ever come back?" she folded her arms. "Because between our...." she tilted her head,, "What was our first meeting?" she asked.
It was funny she was asking that when she'd been regaling the trainees about Lance and the nickname 'Unicorn'. And yet, she still wouldn't be able to say what their true first meeting had been.

Aria shrugged. "You may, however for now this is the safest place. Information is a very valuable commodity here on Deus Ex; I would not talk about this at all within headquarters. You never know how many bugs may be within a room, or who is listening with an ear pressed against a glass." "As for your question... We don't know. That's why I called them in." Aria's weapon moved away from them, gesturing to where the group was once gathered. The pumpkin they were examining was missing; likely they took it with them. Or it ran off while no one was looking. At Nevada's last remark, Aria openly smirked. "Haven't you ever heard 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend'? I wouldn't keep such a black and white viewpoint of the world if I were you." To Stormy, Aria shrugged again. "Those were my allies and friends." She watched them, waiting to see their reactions. "As to what Cass meant, I don't know." "In a division filled with over a hundred people, some on island and others off, I'm afraid I don't have time to get to know each and every one personally." Aria said, shaking her head. "And I still feel that your response at the time is an excuse and not fact. I don't blame you for being honest with me, after all as we can see I'm not exactly a model Deus citizen." "As for your other question," Aria continued, "We first met in December after I came back from spending three months in the Sahara. I showed you and Candace Pennington the then-secret Mist Lounge and introduced you to Lance Dacosta, acting Mist Assistant after dragging his a** out of the Moon recovery wing and putting him to better use than moping over things he couldn't change."

Nevada mulled over the information then....rubbing her jaw thoughtfully. Though she held no love for halloweeners, she didn't have anything against them besides the one who attacked her. Her information on them was limited since she had been battling much bigger things.
Like the tear.
or Kaijuu's....
"Gotcha." The mist huntress leaned back now, morphing back into her usual lazy self, obviously handling this much better than she thought she would. Yay maturity! Cass's questions threw her off a bit, with the talk of Aria not being Aria but...
"Well I can't ask much on the new contamination then, even if I am curious to know everything about it, I really hope it doesn't effect us like Insanity does..." She drew her knee's up. "Is our next move to stay quiet and pretend we didn't see this? Or do we assist your...friends as we go?" Again, she was surprising herself by the simple acceptance of her boss lead. Since the huntress had not attacked her, and because she was willingly answering her questions, Nevada had restored some faith back. However, she was still mifffed about being held against her own will.
"What about Lance?" She looked over her shoulder out past the hallway.

Allies and friends.
She mulled over this uncertainly. Allying with Halloween for the sake of a mission had occurred to her, of course; she knew right from the get go that they weren't all bad. Mei had healed her in battle, Thackery had been friendly; she had to stop herself from thinking about the witch, though. So something was up that required both Hunter and Halloweener attention . . . And whatever had happened that Cass knew about and Aria didn't? Was it another memory tampering effect like from the Tear? She made a note to ask after it if she could.
For now, Stormy's face wrinkled into a thoughtful frown. Nevada's question was whether they had to help now or not, but . . . "Can we help?" she asked Aria. "If so, how? You say the 'enemy of my enemy is a friend', so . . . If neither Halloween nor Insanity is the enemy, then who is this time?"

Her shoulders relaxed slightly. "If you'd known me better, you perhaps would have understood the answer I gave you better. However, even at this point I don't hold a grudge against you - I made a point to go through the gesture of trying to mend things, at least." she folded her arms behind her back, sighing. "And it seems my memory of what would have been our first meeting matches up, given the timeline I have of our..interactions."
"In October 2011, when I was a trainee, we went on a mission to the Haunted House - we had not entered it prior and it became a more casual venture after that. After gathering up the smaller denizens of halloween within, Aria -" she gave Aria a look and tilted her head slowly, considering - "seemingly-Aria came to their aid, freed them, revealed herself as one of their kind and upon.." she looked down at the weapon Aria held, "further interaction with her weapon was consumed by it. Following this she raised as a giant fire-spewing monster intent on killing everything - even her own kind got caught in the crossfire." She flexed her fingers into a fist behind her back, that moment of terror even as a trainee coming back to her. Just being a hunter now wouldn't save her - she would have ended up like Caelius' hair.
"Therefore, I will hold onto seeing what happens the longer you hold onto..." she glanced down at the weapon, "because I can't help having that little...child terror in this instance want to act up a little bit."
She glanced towards where the portal had been before sighing. "At this point, we use Halloween as tools-" Sorry Nic. I know how it is. "- in battle, I don't see why, with what information we've been allowed to overhear we should distrust their situation out of battle. At least not entirely. After all, given how most of Halloween reacts to us..." Cass ran a hand over the scar across her throat, "I think they wouldn't work with us if they didn't absolutely have a need for it."
Still, she didn't sound too thrilled about the situation, despite understanding. Understanding and acceptance were two different things, after all. "But hey, the trust boat docks on both sides of the river, so..."

A mirthless laugh came from Aria. "You said it yourself earlier: some people would kill to discover a so-called traitor in their midst. I inherited this position myself after the then-leader was killed. I wouldn't put it past Lance to try and off me if he found out, either. After all, he was only interested in me after he found out I was the lead for a division that was still struggling to get back on its feet. Considering what happened to all challengers and those who openly intended to take my position, it's no surprise he opted for the... other route." "What the three of you choose is up to you. I'm not going to force you down a path of damnation. All of you have already seen too much." Stormy's question caused the lead to tighten her grip on her weapon. "It is your choice what you want to do. We here at Deus Ex are tasked with protecting humanity, are we not?" She spread her arms wide, "An entire world, protected from the supernatural by people who are based on one tiny island! The world is a vast, wide place and Halloween is bigger. Halloween may have its laws, but it has its lawbreakers as well. Like the horsemen." The word was spat out, contempt naked on her face. "It is their belief that they are superior and are to rule over humanity. They have no qualms with torturing or murdering. They aren't the only ones in Halloween that do this either. There are more, and as well as Halloween tries to stop them they can slide right through their fingers. That is where I and my friends come in." Aria shrugged off Cass' initial comment. Now wasn't the time to point out that inviting a hunter into her office for tea and a "nice chat" was usually an invitation for disaster. Nor could she say that she lacked the social skills or knowledge of how to get to know someone better. All she had were excuses, nothing more. She listened to the hunter, looking down at her own weapon and placing her hand on top of it protectively. "So that is what happened to her twin," she mused softly, "I had always wondered. It seems as though the Fear of a creature and weapon reacted in such a way that -- ah." Realization dawned on her. "I see. That explains why there is so much Insanity in the Haunted house. Thank you." At the next bit, Aria shook her head. "Halloween is made up of many, many individuals. They are my friends; I owe them my life countless times, and they in turn are in my own debt for the same reason. Sometimes instead of focusing on what's different, if you take a moment to focus on your similarities? It turns out we're not much different after all." Blasphemy. If Caelius were here, her head would already be rolling across the floor.

She hadn't expected Cass to actually divulge a summary and listened with rapt attention, like it was a story told before bed. Halloween had the technology to masquerade as one of them? And a leader at that? She shuddered at the thought of being on a mission where you put your trust in someone that high only to be betrayed.
< < A creature of Fear wielding a weapon that saps Fear . . . > > Thane mused aloud for her benefit, to show her he was actually paying attention instead of just outright ignoring her.
Sounds pretty bad.
Stormy couldn't imagine what that must have been like, fighting a monster that used to wear a familiar face. No, that was a lie; she had turned into an insanity creature herself in the Sahara after all. Aria mentioned a twin in her response . . . They'd managed to steal a weapon, too? Wow. There was a whole lot of action she wasn't aware of. How exactly the melding of Fear from host and weapon tied into Insanity she didn't know, but it was definitely turning curiouser and curiouser . . .
Quietly she processed what Cass and Aria said, twisting Thane's totem unconsciously. It was hard to think of Lance as power-hungry, not with that laidback attitude. It wasn't hard, however, to imagine trust with denizens of Halloween; from the first mission even Stormy had been exposed to sympathetic students, and her open-minded disposition wouldn't let her discount them as allies. Hell, Gale contacted Mei as part of his division specialty. But knowing how most of Deus felt about Halloween, she didn't blame Aria for keeping this a secret . . .
"If this is the safest place in Deus, then . . . Then I agree with you, Miss Aria," she said after hesitating, glancing at the other two before continuing. "They're not all bad. Some of them really do want to help, and if whatever's going on threatens all of us, then . . . there should be a 'we' instead of an us and them."
Stormy had grown too devoted to her division to think about damaging it, even if it meant keeping secrets. This was different than the thing with Jack; that was all on her, but this . . . this was potentially life-changing and could throw up a mess in Deus. Therefore, it had to be guarded well. And she hated the idea of making someone, even a leader, work at it alone.
Aria wouldn't force them either way, but to Stormy the path forward was simple. Dangerous, but simple. "If we already know too much, there's no point in backing out," she said, fingers lacing together. "I can't walk away from this and pretend it never happened, and it'll kill me to know something's going on and not do something about it, so . . ." She was trying to gather her courage which had scattered the moment the unseen force had taken control. "If you or your friends need help, Miss Aria, a-and you don't mind, I'll give it," she eventually continued, looking up at her leader determinedly. "If I'm already in too deep, might as well take the plunge entirely. You're our leader; I trust you."

"Well, I certainly have met all the wrong individuals, then." Albeit, her interaction with the Pyramid Head had been mostly amicable, as if they were both very amused by it. She'd certainly had fun with the meeting, at least. She couldn't think of any other meeting she'd had that had been very fun, however. She glanced down at the weapon - she'd heard whispers about a twin weapon at some point. The 'rare' twin.
The irony would be that Cass had been laid out coloring unicorns with Lance when Red had raised again, thus the 'dead' beast was actually still floating around. Oh, she'd be all levels of surprised when that happened.
After a moment of consideration, however, Cass had made her decision - "As I suspect you would never tell me to betray my friends, nor actively put me in a situation where helping my friends was made difficult, I won't do the same to you." She released the fists behind her back to flex her hand out, looking at the small red marks in her palms.
"However, my participation in such activity will remain as background assistance - limited and with things as under the table as asked for - given I only keep so many secrets from my husband." She grimaced slightly, not liking the idea of keeping more secrets, but - "I feel that would be the safest option. But-" She looked to Aria, "I will come help should you ask for my help, even though I myself am awful at doing the same."
They kind of did have a bit in common. Secret sisters (no seriously, side by side....)

The division leader watched Stormy for a long moment. At last, she spoke. "It'll be good to have you on board, Stormy. I look forward to working with you. However," she tapped her weapon, thinking. "There currently isn't a threat to both Halloween and Hunters, not just yet. It is the renegades we need to worry about, and with one of them currently on the loose this isn't the safest place in Deus. Not yet, and not by a long shot." It probably wouldn't be a good idea to tell her that there was no such thing as a "safe" place on Deus Ex. Better to let the girl take comfort in her own beliefs than become paranoid, Aria reasoned. To Cass, Aria gave a slow nod. "It is understandable, and I thank you for it. I hope that I will not need to ask too much of you, however these are troubled times. There may come a time where you will be asked to help defend someone your friends may wish to kill. I won't ask you what you would do. I would rather that day never come, however the possibility will persist."

"Yessum." Two fingers went to her temple in salute, though she did feel a little guilty in retrospect; Cass made her decision while thinking about her husband, and there she went pledging herself without thinking about how it might affect things with Gale . . . Let alone what it might mean for future missions. She'd have to be extra careful if priorities began to conflict, or pray that it never happened.
"When you say renegades, do you mean the Circle?" Stormy asked with a frown, remembering what the Mist leader had been talking about with her friends. She knew only what Lucky told her, and that was very little. "They're not happy with how Deus is run, right? And, uh, what's an Undine?" Since she was already picking at what Aria had been mentioning anyway.

Cass nodded. "The less super sensitive anything I know, the better for all of us, as much as I hate to confess I can't be as much help actively. However...." She sighed, "Even I have seen the 'enemy' healing our numbers when their own numbers were attacking us, so if we're going to make any claim at being good people.....I'll have to accept that shades of grey will serve us better in the long run."
At Stormy beginning her questioning, Cass nodded - "Because right now I have a water spirit on the brain and I'm not sure that's what you're meaning with that sort of a name...."

Nevada stayed quiet longer as she processed one thing after another thing after another. Why she ever thought coming to Deus would be simpler than her normal life was beyond her.
Stormy's apt volunteering made Nevada swivel her head at the girl before lifting up her hand and pulling at the girl's cheek.
"Well where ever or whatever this one does, I go and do with as well." Nevada pointed to Stormy, "And I'm curious to know about this, whatever the incoming threat, because we all know it is coming, I want more knowledge on it rather than being thrown right into it."
The mist huntress lucky, had Stormy to share all her secrets with. Unlike Cass, She didn't have anyone to delve information to like that.
"Oh the circle hunters." Nevada grimaced, "Aren't they also hunters that have...thrown away their weapon bonds?" At least that was the rumor mill.

Aria slowly released the breath she had been holding, nodding towards Nevada. "Good to have you all on board. Before I forget again, I'll need to lay down some ground rules." "Cass, you remember where the black hunter coats are yes? If Stormy and Nevada don't have one yet, please show them where to get one. The solid black coats are both our uniforms and the way to hide who we are. Never, ever summon your weapon when you have it. The less you can be identified, the less likely you'll become a target." "As for the Circles..." Aria shook her head. "They're nothing compared to Halloween renegades. I don't know much about them. All I know is that they exist, and their activity means less heat on mine." "As for Undine..." The division leader winced. She could feel a headache coming on. "He could be anywhere. With luck he won't have left the caves, but you can't be too sure. Just act natural and keep your eyes peeled for signs of abnormal activity. He's bound to slip up sooner or later." Aria looked sharply at each one of them in turn. "And before you even think about it, don't even consider engaging him in combat if you run into him. He's going to be stronger than any of the Amityville Halloween folk you've run into."

"Gray is better," she told Cass with a nod, as if she needed more convincing. "On my first mission, a student healed me when my charge went wrong and nearly broke my shield." Stormy could still remember the fetid breath of the corpse dog and the dracolich on her . . . Eugh. Mei had literally saved her life back there.
So, another uniform to keep, huh. Very clandestine indeed! It was really lucky that she and her roommate wouldn't have to keep secrets from each other in this regard. But no way was she interested in trying to fight something that clearly had some powers about it like hiding in underground caves unnoticed . . . "Don't engage Undine, don't make yourself a target with the coat: got it. He's also an ally, then?" Or a neutral party guardian thing? She still had something similar to Cass' description, a literal summon from a video game all serpentine and watery . . .
"If, um, it's fair to ask, this Binding thing . . . What is it exactly?" she asked, showing a little concern as she felt the slight but present chill inside her, the slow creeping doubt of what the hell did she just get herself into. "It's Halloween magic, right? I know we're not supposed to talk about what happened here to anyone else, but does it set any other rules or conditions we should be aware of?"
