Cass could see something sticking out of the sand now and reached down to pick it up. Whatever it was crumbled into pieces on contact and Cass coughed before burying the pieces in the sand.

Harland was starting a soap and seashell collection. He was going to make a bracelet for Ian out of shells and bits of soap.
That was entirely a joke.
He did, however, pocket the shell and mentally note that at least when they had proper power he could luxuriate in the soap and warm water.

Peyton had been hearing good things about wandering around the beach. People had been finding things. Valuable things. Things worth having, sharing, trading.
So she had made her way down to the beach as well, and she was searching the sands in bare feet, hands snug in her pockets.
She didn't find anything, but that wouldn't stop her from coming back and trying again another time.
