Lacey tilted her head as she listened to the babies fall asleep, and watched the emotions flit across Grimm's face. "What are you thinking?" She asked without hesitation, though after the words left her mouth she wondered where this curiosity came from.

Grimm blinked his olive green eyes as he was gently drawn from his thoughts by the question. "Many things," he replied. "Mostly the past... Children I raised, loved ones I lost. Occasionally a 'could've been' or 'what if' that I don't catch." He tried not to think about that too often, though at the moment, he couldn't help thinking about them... But saying his thoughts allowed solidified his satisfaction with at least most of his current life. He was glad he hadn't had children of his own; losing a mother would've been just as hard--if not harder--than losing a love...

Lacey leaned over and tried to nudge Grimm, but it accidentally turned into a nuzzle before she pulled away and looked at him in the eyes, her own red inquisitive filled with some unnamed, masked emotion that she wasn't sure of herself.

Grimm reacted instinctively and returned the nuzzle, his own olive green eyes trying to confirm both of their feelings. He leaned over again, lightly touching his nose to hers. He couldn't help but just stare at her patiently, as if there was a deal waiting to be made hidden behind those gorgeous red eyes and he was waiting for it to be verbalized.

Lacey blinked and watched Grimm fearlessly, her eyes showing what she couldn't verbalize, not yet. She wasn't ready. It was too soon... too soon after Ruin... and she had her family to worry about... She hadn't seen them all yet,... So she said it the only way she could. With her eyes, and she hoped he would understand that she couldn't say it. Not yet. Though in her heart she wanted to. She cast out her mind connection with Manga to see what she would say to this.

Grimm's expression softened. He understood. The pain was fresh, and not even this mysterious attraction could heal it immediately. He lightly nosed her neck for a moment in an affectionate gesture. There was no nipping, no murmured words, no overbearing presence. Just a simple motion to show his support. He wanted to protect her as well as her children, wanted return a smile to her face... And that couldn't be done by overwhelming her and being banished from her presence as a result.
Half-asleep but comprehending, Manga relayed some amusement before giving a proper answer. "He definitely knows how to read your nonverbal cues," she remarked. "Not overbearing, likes children, is sensitive to your needs... I don't see a reason why you can't trust him."

Lacey mentally stuck her tongue out at Manga. She coulda told that for herself. But in any case. She turned her attention back to Grimm and gave a brief sweet smile at his gesture. For the first time since leaving Ruin, she didn't feel as if she needed to look over her shoulder every second for danger. She felt safe and comfortable.

Manga just smiled, rolled over and went back to bed. Her silly Bonded...
Grimm's expression lit up at her smile. He gently nudged her and suggested softly, "You should get some rest." The next day was likely going to be a long day of reunions...

Lacey nodded but her eyes widened in worry. "A..are you gonna stay?" She asked worriedly.

Grimm had planned on just watching from the shadows once day broke, but Lacey's worried request crushed his resolve. "I will stay as long as you wish," he replied reassuringly.

Grimm resisted the urge to go to her side and settle into sleep next to her. He remained where he was across from her, acting as an extra barricade to any foals that decided to be adventurous when they woke up. The stallion had planned on just staying awake and then slipping into the nearby trees to watch, but then he drifted off to sleep himself...

Lacey didn't wake until the next morning when Roman scuttled away from her to the approaching hoofsteps that signified the approach of a heavy hoofed azrein. Lacey jumped to her hooves and looked straight into the face of Ruin. Her expression hardened and she grabbed Roman by his blanket and pulled him back by Remus and Regulus, placing herself between both of them.
"Well they know who their father is." Ruin said lightly, his head tilted to the side, the chains rattling as he did so.
Lacey eyed him. "Leave Ruin. It took you this long to follow me, you don't really care. So leave." She growled, her wings spreading slightly, though they were still close to her body. She knew all of Ruin's tricks.
Ruin chuckled lightly and looked at the stallion that was waking up. "I don't think I will. Those are my sons, and I will raise them in the South where they will be accepted and raised right."
Lacey snarled. "If they were to stay with you for a day, they would die. You have no patience for foals, let alone blankets. I will not let you take my children just so you can raise this army you are wanting. I left with them for a reason. Now leave."

Ruin. Oh, what an unpleasant person to be woken up by.
"If you could raise a son, you would've had your two oldest still willing to stay with you." Grimm didn't even bother to lift himself from the ground, stretching out his neck to right Remus--who had, yet again, ended up tangled in his blanket in his reaction to the noise. "Or at least tolerate you." His olive green gaze went to Roman. "And I believe the boy was just investigating a stranger, as foals are wont to do. ... You do know how foals behave, don't you, Rune? Or did you forget that bit while you were creating your own demise?" The tone was casual, albeit slightly sarcastic.

Ruin growled at the hay stallion. Why did he keep showing up in his business? "They will come to me. Just wait Lacey>' He growled out, disappearing almost as fast as he'd approached.
Lacey leaned down and nuzzled her babies after Ruin disappeared.
