Well, Mike was pleasantly surprised they were doing so well! He didn't know if they'd keep it up, but hey! They were in the top teams at the moment so he was completely pleased with that. "We're doing pretty well!" he said, looking up another quick recipe that looked pretty easy. He'd noticed one of the judges really did not like their last thing so he wanted to try something a little less easy to mess up. Roasted pumpkin quiche seemed like it would be pretty easy so he started to whip up a quiche. Not that he was expert enough to whip things up, really. Especially since it was his first time making one. And all in all, it went okay. It probably could have gone a bit better but it wasn't a completely failure so when he pulled it out of the oven and turned it over to Junior, he was at least reasonably confident they wouldn't make the judges pass out from horror. "It's all yours, Junior."

...Fourth. Sure, when there were twenty-six teams, fourth was pretty decent, you could recover from fourth. But Haruka was still a little frustrated, getting out-cooked by some kids! (She was forty years old now, she could call them kids.) And so, she was absolutely determined to do better this time around. Pumpkin entree, pumpkin entree... Well, she knew how to make a spinach and pumpkin risotto. That was better than nothing, right? Grabbing the ingredients, she was pleased that she remembered this a lot better than she thought, though maybe she ended up putting in a little bit too much spinach... Oh well, leafy greens were good for you!

Okay, so the first round had gone pretty well despite his basically ruining the whole thing. His face was now perfectly clean and had been properly checked out by his lovely assistant. She had even managed to fool the judges into thinking that his cheese ball wasn't completely disgusting. Needless to say, he was feeling very glad and his confidence had been boosted tremendously! Now, it was time for round 2 and he was coming out of the corner swinging. His shirt was no longer capable of constricting his barrels and he was able to get down to work. He turned to look at Tshila for a little inspiration and placed his hand around her shoulder. "Not too shabby if I do say so myself." Sure, he should thank her for basically holding up the whole team back there, but compliments would only be in order once they had really won. Or really lost. Although those compliments would not be about her cooking and would rather be about getting his mind the ******** off this stupid festival because why did he always have to lose?!
He released her quickly, happy that he had grabbed so high. A little lower and he may not even want to get back to cooking. He turned to grab for some more ingredients and started some fettuccine noodles while he began to puree the pumpkin. In a separate pan, he mixed together oil and butter in a different pan. As the butter melted, he began adding in cream, and spices. Once his puree was completed, he added it in to the mix. Ah, it felt so calming to be back into the swing of things. He checked his noodles and, happy that they were done, removed their water and added them to a bowl. He then added it all together, stirred it quickly and poured it out onto a plate. Oh, it looked so wonderful! He grabbed a remaining noodle from the bowl to taste his wonderful little creation. What perfection! How marvelous! He was positive that this was the best thing that he had ever made, though Lyra was a close second. He moved the plate over to Tshila and smiled. "Your turn." Ah, cooking something so well was such a rush. It was almost unbearable to even look at her right now. He would have to find something else to do as not to distract her. Flexing! Yes! His muscles were a perfect distraction.

YES! Tshila was so proud of herself with their last dish because she totally won that round for them. Even though one of the judges seemed to really, really be mad about it. But that was okay! They still were tied for third so far so that was pretty cool! She was really hoping they won because she'd feel really sad if they didn't and she'd have to spend the evening distracting Xeiro so he wouldn't hate her guts forever for losing the whole thing for them. She practically was glowing by the time he started cooking and he was doing so well this time, too! Then he handed over the dish to her and she was so determined to make it perfect. She garnished the edges with fresh sage and she was going to give it a light dusting a Parmesan cheese! But...the Parmesan was sort of not cooperating because apparently it was completely clumped up inside or something so she spent five minutes struggling with it and trying to get even a little to come out when suddenly the lid of the container just popped off and a hamster sized clump of Parmesan plopped onto the plate, along with the rest of the contents. "ACK! NO. Bad!" Tshila said, flailing at the container as she threw it over her shoulder in a panic. She started doing what she could to rescue the dish as best as she could. "Whyyyy!? Stupid...thing! Why do they have stupid defective cheese? That is so, totally, not fair!"

...Disapointing? Had he... Had he just said his meal was ******** disappointing. Keith could feel his left eyebrow twitch in murderous rage. He took the closest cleaver he had and simple threw it at one of the pumpkin, effectively decapitating it. Good thing he still hadn't realize he has only beaten Reinbach and Shinju by a point or the possum-midice of Nirvani would have went up by 100% on that day. Thankfully, his rage was focused on the orange squash... for now. It wasn't his fault if his meal was sub-par. It was the ******** stupid a** theme's fault. It was the pumpkin's fault And the pumpkins were being chopped to piece in a way that only a French cook fill with righteous rage could do.
"Conor. Make a fire. No, make two. Make it hot. I want things to burn. BURN THEM ALL." Of course, he was referring to the chunks of pupkins he was putting in a bowl next to him, and not about the inhabitant of the island. Hopefully Conor would get that... hopefully. Meh, one or twelve people less on the island wouldn't hurt anyone.... well, anyone who wouldn't endup dying a horrifying death by Conor-induced fire.
But that was't important. What was important was that meal he was now cooking. It was a little tweak of a recipe he knew, but switching regular butternut squash for pumpkin shouldn't be a big difference right? Might be a bit slippy, but it shouldn't be a big deal. What WOULD be a big deal, was that in his pumpkin-chopping rage, he had over cooked his pasta a bit too much. Oops... Well, there went a bit of points. Didn't have time to make more tough. And hopefully Conor had did a good job roasting those pieces of pumpkin. Didn't have time to check, he was already grating Gorgonzola to put on top of his pasta dish, Fettuccine with roasted pumpkin cubes, in brown butter and sage sauce and topped with Gorgonzola. It was a mouthful. Whatever. It was good. Yes, it was. Not a maybe. Not a not. It was good, or so help him, Goddess.

With the cooking section having gone pretty well, Haruka was confident that she had this thing in the bag! Now she just had to make it look nice, which, admittedly, was a little difficult to do with risotto. She tried a bit of garnish, and decided it was good enough, and went to work on cleaning up her station while she had the time... but ended up slipping on some pumpkin that had fallen on the ground during the last round. She lost her balance (Haruka was not one for practical footwear, not even during competitions) and ended up planting her elbow right into the middle of her plate of risotto. Not only did she now have gross risotto-elbow, but her entree was now all smushed! Dammit!

Zeke was pretty amazed that he and Gray had done so well, especially since he had been having so much fun that he forgot they were even in a contest. Oh, well! Doing so well was better than the opposite! He was smiling over at Gray as he watched him create another dish. Secretly, he was waiting in hopes that Gray would perform another trick. When he saw the scallop levitating, he began to clap eagerly and bounce a little. Sure, he was a little crazy about magic, but what did that matter! It was really just amplified by the fact that he was making a friend! When a scallop started towards him, he was practically overjoyed. He grabbed at the wonderful little thing and tasted it. Hmm... it wasn't all that bad! Sure, it was a little different from last time, but different wasn't always bad! "I like it! Great job." He smiled eagerly.
Now it was his turn to make this look wonderful! Hrmm... he couldn't really see that there was much that he could do. So, he took the scallops and straightened them on top and made sure that the more desirable side was facing up. The judges didn't really need to see how burnt some of the sides were, anyway. Since that took little time, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a napkin for his next trick! He covered the bowl quickly and slid it over to the side of the table before hovering his fist over it. He made sure to smile and allow for perfect anticipation before he shoved his fist down onto the napkin and hit through to the table. "Oh no. I think I've lost your dish. What will we do?! We don't have enough time to make another one!" He clapped his hands to his face in the worst fake distress way possible. "Oh, but wait!" He laughed and bent down to reach under the table and pull up the bowl. "Here we are. No worries." Too bad the bowl was now covered in some dirt.
