Daemon paused in the conversation as he tried to think about how to describe it.

"It is, a place where you can go to in your dreams," Daemon replied slowly, "There you can do whatever you wish and form the dream however you wish. If two people are visiting the same scape, they can talk to each other even if they couldn't in person."

"Like if Mama or Papa would come into my dream when I'm sleeping?" Saria pressed, eager for more answers.

"Not quite, dear," Lothiriel smiled at her granddaughter. "Dreamscapes are for when you are awake, rather than asleep. Though I'm sure that's not to say that it wouldn't work if you're asleep."

She looked to Daemon. She had never tried it while asleep, or while Estel was asleep.

"Did you ever do it with Father when he was asleep?" she asked him curiously.

"Yes, though the first time was by accident," Daemon admitted, "We tried not to do it too often, but every once in a while."

Since he didn't sleep at all, it was less sleeping and more like being a blank mind for a few hours.

Lothiriel smiled softly. "I imagine that must have been before he and Mother were married," she commented.

After all, it would have been quite awkward to have another person - in a sword or otherwise - in the bedroom of a married couple. For sheer privacy, Gion would have left the sword in another room, she was sure.

Daemon laughed at that, because it was true.

"Yes, yes, after the two married I went into another room," he chuckled, "It wasn't a huge change, like I said, we tried not to do that during sleeping hours that often. Though admittedly we did that more in our first few years, but that was because your father was uncertain about what I did at night while he slept. Since... back then I didn't need to sleep, and I was still adjusting to being aware and in a sword."

He knew that probably sounded strange, since he had many, many years being in the sword before meeting Gion.

"I wasn't that aware the first... how many years I was in there. Being stuck wrapped under a bed doesn't do much for your self awareness."

Saria stared at Daemon. "How many years were you in there?" she asked, her tone filled with awe.

Lothiriel had to think hard about the answer to that question. Two hundred years before her father had found the sword, and then what, eighty? Ninety? One hundred years before Daemon had gained the strength to leave it?

"Uhm....."

Daemon didn't even remember anymore. He knew somewhere in the beginning of his friendship with Gion, the two had figured it out, but now he couldn't remember.

"I have no clue, I just know it was a very, very long time," Daemon finally replied.

Saria's eyes grew wider. "You mean like ... like ten whole years?" she asked. Of course, being but four years old, that was indeed quite a long time for her. More than double her lifespan thus far, in fact.

The others around the table giggled and snickered softly.

Daemon chewed on his lower lip to keep himself from laughing, It was really cute, though not unexpected thing to hear.

"At least two centuries, probably closer to three," Daemon finally replied.

He was pretty sure it was somewhere in that range.

Saria looked up at her mother and tugged gently on her sleeve. "Mama," she asked her in a loud whisper, her brown eyes wide, "what's a century?"

Alinda smiled at her daughter and stroked her hair softly. "A century is one hundred years," she answered her quietly. "So Daemon was in the sword for somewhere between two and three hundred years."

At that, the little girl looked as though she just might faint, she was so in awe. "That's a lot of years!" she exclaimed, looking back at Daemon again.

"It is," Daemon chuckled, "But I was kind of asleep for most of it."

So it didn't seem that long to him, the century he was awake however was a different matter. Though to be fair, at least he was kind of kept busy by Gion and his family.

"Kind of asleep?" Saria repeated curiously. "Like ... dreaming?"

Lothiriel giggled softly. "Saria, dear," she gently reprimanded her granddaughter, "please allow Daemon to eat. It is lunch time, after all."

"And you also need to eat," Pengolodh reminded his daughter, tapping the edge of her plate to remind her. "Come on, it's quite a walk home and it's going to be very hot. You know that makes you tired when you haven't eaten enough."

Saria picked up her fork obediently. "Yes, Papa."

Daemon chuckled a bit more before going to his own food.

Unsurprisingly, Long had already gotten through a good portion of his meal. He hadn't been the one talking, having enjoyed just watching Saria talk and be amazed at what Daemon had to say.

Saria took one bite of her food, but the moment she glanced up at their guests again she was once more filled with curiosity. She remembered that Daemon needed to eat, but she also noted that Long's plate was very nearly empty, so she figured it would be safe to ask him questions now instead.

"What about you, Tall?" she asked him. "Were you in a sword, too?"

"His name is Long, Saria, not Tall," Pengolodh corrected his daughter with a soft chuckle.

Saria blinked up at her father. "But why? He's not long, he's tall! Sticks are long, right? But people are tall. So Tall makes more sense!"

Daemon coughed at that, and Long only laughed because he would find it funny. It was always a wonder why Mi and Long didn't have more kids after Donovan, it would have suited the two.

Or at least it would have suited Long.

"'Long', in my native tongue means dragon," the Asian man explained.

It was probably a bit pretentious of his mother to have named him that now that he thought about it.
