"Yeah, she's something..." Harper picked a piece off the rat, cooled it with a spray of magic and popped it in her mouth. She nodded, and picked up the pike, handing it to Nina.
"Unfortunately." Harper licked her finger, trailing a line of juice down her hand. "Two brothers; Herschel and Trixibelle. Well, Trixi isn't so bad, he's really sweet and he's watched over Emma for as long as we've been around. Herschel, though...." She rolled her eyes with a grin. "Biggest wuss ever. If you poke him, he cries." Still, she missed them. Since her papa ventured away so did her brothers. It wasn't uncommon in their family, to pack up and move on, but at least she'd expected it from Tristan. Those three, though...
"What about you? Any brothers or sisters?"

Nina chuckled softly. Her playmates had often complained of having brothers. "Sounds like you four were an interesting bunch," she said lightly, taking a bite of her rat. ...Not exactly fine dining, but it would do.
Her ears twitched as the question was returned. Was Harper actually interested in knowing? "Neither. An only child, as far as I know. My mother left when I was born, and it's just been me and my dad. Oh, and Raine. She pretty much became my mother when she moved in with us to help my dad out with me." Her smile grew, and a more enthusiastic laugh bubbled up. "Who knows. Maybe I will get siblings one of these days from those two."

Harper set about skinning a second rat, using the same pike she'd fashioned for Nina's as her own. She wasn't half as worried about eating fur as she was about having an empty stomach, so she didn't put near the effort into this one as she had the other.
"Sounds like you've had a mother all along, even if she didn't birth you." Harper rotated the carcass, dipping it in the flames every once in a while to speed up the process. She grinned, giving into a laugh of her own. "How would you like that, if you came back and you had little siblings on the way?"

Nina blinked slightly, and a little smile rose. "I guess... I think she would freak out if I suddenly called her mother though," she said with a chuckle. Harper's question sent a flush to her cheeks, and a snort of a laugh rose. "Oh, gosh... I guess I wouldn't mind. ...They would be good together. I'd like to see them together." Another small smile rose. She really did want to see them end up together.
Her smile fell though, and she looked up the mountain. "I gotta get back to them..." She looked over to Harper. "And we'll get you back to your sister. With the amulet."

Harper gave into a loud, spontaneous laugh and slapped her leg, her face nothing, but smiles. "Look at'cha, blushing at the thought! Eh, if it's what your pap wants, I saw go with it, especially if you care about her so much. You'd make a good sister." She was strong, and annoying as hell, but that's what siblings were known for.
Harper pulled her dire rat up from the ground, and nodded. With her teeth sinking into the flesh, she tore out a chunk as she stood, and while she munched she kicked a bit of sand onto the fire. "No time like the present then, huh? Let's get to that bog so we can get the hell out of here."

Harper's comment surprised Nina. She... she would? Her blush lingered as she looked off to the side."..Thanks," she murmured softly. If Blake and Raine had children...
She looked up at Harper at the quick change, and nodded. With her pack secured, and the sword belt double-checked around her hips, she, too, carried her meal as they continued on. "So.. what's a bog actually like? I've never been to one."

"Well, a bog is usually a swamp, with a lot more fog." Holding her rat in her teeth, Harper dug around her pack and handed Nina a sketch, showing the things she described. "There's a lot less vegetation that grows there, and the muck is a lot thicker, so be careful with how you step. I don't know what this one is going to look like, though. Hopefully it's all illusions like this place was, but be on guard."
The Bog of Lost Souls just screamed bad luck. Hopefully they would be able to pick their way through it quickly without incident. Harper almost laughed at the absurdity.

Nina wrinkled her nose. "That sounds awesome," she said, her tone thick with sarcasm as she looked over the sketch. "What exciting adventure would be complete without a bog though?"
A rotten, damp stench drifted faintly on the wind, easily picked up by her canine senses, and Nina sighed heavily. "Do bogs smell like swamps?" Maybe there was simply some dead body up ahead, like a wandering goat...
