Cavin hummed softly, briefly eyeing the little 'worms' atop the mare's barnacle'd back, before snapping at it, and again shaking his beak, glaring at the foe that tormented him. "You never learned to find a comb-branch?" He muttered. He'd used one a couple times for his own mane, and to add volume to his tail. "Just... A leafless branch with many fingers will be a good start... Better if it's a strong one that won't snap." He shrugged, though. He enjoyed the grooming.

Liron smiled in amusement at his anemone-nipping before replying. "The desert has hardly any trees. There's cacti, but they don't have branches... only needles." She shrugged back at him, lightly resting her head across his back. "Mmm... but I like when you do it." Her feathered tail swished quietly behind her, dropping twigs and leaves as the movement jostled them loose.

He humphed. "Still, when you find a tree, you should know how to comb your own mane with it." He left the lecturing, satisfied with her mane, and felt his eye twitch on the far side of Liron's vision at the sticks and leaves bouncing out of her tailfeathers. He leaned forward, trying not to dislodge the mare's place along his back, and plucked at the debris he could reach to free her tail from them.

"If you say so..." Liron blushed as she stallion started preening through her tail feathers, but didn't comment. She shifted slightly so that the feathers were easier to reach but still allowed her to keep her spot on his back. She wished her heart would stop beating so loudly; she half-wondered if Cavin could hear it. Probably not, but it felt like he could. The mare liked him, but he didn't feel the same, did he? Out of habit, she began humming to try to calm her emotions.

Her humming drew his eye for a moment, but he returned to her feathers smoothly, plucking natural debris from her tailfeathers with a consistant stride as more of them were made appropriately available. His eyes drifted back to her mane and the eyes above his back. He wanted to give her what she wanted; everything... She wanted. He wanted to spend hours preening and singing with her and chasing through field and forest. The closest he could get was humming something near the tune of a song performed in another universe by a band called The Police, a tune he'd never heard before, but somehow felt he knew.

Liron blinked, glancing at the stallion from his back as he began humming. She smiled, joining in his tune as she moved so that her side brushed against his. She ran her muzzle along his neck, basking in the moment. She gently pulled some twigs out of Cavin's mane that had fallen when she jumped from the tree, then continued to groom it for him. She didn't speak until the humming stopped. "It's pretty." She dipped her head, lightly pressing it against his chest. He hadn't sung the words, but it felt as if she knew them. "It makes me happy."

Cavin worked to hide the soft roll of his eyes. It had been a long time since he'd been preened, himself. the branchcombs just weren't the same when compared to the teeth of another working through his mane gingerly to pick out what didn't belong and let it fall to the ground. Had he his father's lips, the sound might have been a knicker, but, as it stood he carried his mother's beak, he instead let off a soft, flittering chirp, much like the one heard from bluebirds in spring as they twirled in the air, interrupting the song. When she finished, he was quiet for a moment, peering over his shoulder, then continuing the song until he didn't feel like humming anymore and ran out of tune. "It... Makes me happy..." He muttered slowly. "That you enjoy it..."

Liron smiled softly at the stallion, her yellow eyes alight. She wasn't brave like her father and sister... but surely she was brave enough to say something, right? "... I'm... glad that... I'm with you." She shyly glanced away from Cavin as she continued. "It makes... me happier... than anything else." Despite her hopes for this relationship, she could feel her heart attempting to brace itself for incoming rejection.

The stallion smiled and twisted his head to n** at her ear, grabbing it lightly in his beak and pulling it just gently before releasing the thin flesh. He opted for silence, before stepping forward to continue digging tree debris from her tail, neglecting further response, if only for now.

Liron blinked and looked up when he nipped her ear. She smiled and leaned against him, letting the silence continue. Cavin didn't leave. Hopefully he never would, but even if he did... she'd at least enjoy these moments with him.
