Indifferent to the approaching blues the Opportune Moment green continued her steady progress along the line. Each candidate was inspected for a few moments and then dismissed as unsuitable, but the bright green showed no sign of distress. There were many to go, and she had felt suitable hands at the Touching. It was merely a case of finding them....

Patience was indeed a virtue, and did indeed bring rewards.

As she approached Torin the green slowed and then came to a halt completely.

[Wen]
That was different. Wen watched the green brush passed him and impress on a rather tall male candidate. He nodded slightly, glancing up and then back to the blues still walking about the sand. He couldn't see any of the other six eggs moving.

[Carltis]

Now that green had Impressed too. Shards. Not many left, not many left at all. What would he do if he failed? He'd go back to his craft he supposed but... but he had wanted this for so long. A dragon, yes what he'd dreamed of was a big one that could make a wingleader or weyrleader of him but in the end he'd take any dragon. He just wanted something that loved him, and wasn't that pathetic? Boo hoo I can't make friends with humans very well, so I need a creature that by definition has to love me no matter what. Sob sob somebody I trusted stabbed me in the back so I need a nice dragon to cuddle because dragons have to stay true to you once they've chosen you. Idiot.

As Damaged Eardrums and Look Before You Leap neared the candidates, the Head First egg rocked and twitched a few times before cracking open to reveal a blue. For the most part he was a lovely refined shade of cobalt blue, but with darker feet, and icy blue wingsails. Shaking himself he looked around, eyes whirling first green and then bright orange as he stepped on a shard of his shell. Hissing loudly he jumped backwards and snapped his teeth at the offending fragment before freezing and looking around again.

He looked back from one edge of the candidate line to the other just in time to see Damaged Eardrums trotting up, and was treated to one of the stocky blue's earsplitting calls.

Snorting displeasure and shaking his head to clear it Head First set off at a swift trot for the gaggle of candidates. Damaged Eardrums meanwhile seemed to have decided he needed a better vantage point. The best vantage point available was the Pacifist Egg, currently lying on its side. After eyeing it up for a few moments the vividly coloured hatchling jumped right up on top of the creamy spotted shell and called down to Look Before You Leap, who had stopped half way between the arch and the egg his brother was now standing on.

'Look at me!' Damaged Eardrums seemed to call.

'Oh dear.' Look Before You Leap seemed to sigh. As Damaged Eardrums skittered on to of the Pacifist Egg, struggling to keep his balance, the miniature spotted blue smacked a forepaw to his eyes. Oh dear; indeed.

[Wen]
A other blue, not a very happy one either. Wen picked up his sandals with his toes and transferred them to his silly rope belt, tying them off to the side. The cobalt blue seemed to be in the likes of the angry greens from earlier and he would preferred to move unencumbered by cheap sandals.

He spared a glance at the calmer blues and repressed a crackle of laughter as the larger of the pair perched on top of an egg. The tinier blue just seemed embarrassed to even be near his sibling and who knew what the poor egg was thinking, being used as a perch.

Zarike laughed. "Now THAT is funny." He exclaimed from his own perch, leaning on his stomach over the railing of the Stands. Orlina might like that one! Zarike didn't quite understand the mechanics of Impression yet but he knew it was something to do with personalities. Orlina was fun. That dragon looked like fun. Made sense to him.

Zarike would have loved him. Zarike loved just about every dragon he met though. It would be great when he was a rider! He didn't care what color he rode. He'd and his partner would be amazing. They'd fight Thread and Revolutionists and fly all over Pern. He could visit Landing! Maybe take his dad there too. Zarike was sure his dad would love to visit Landing!

This was certainly a lively group of hatchlings, between tussling, playing and barreling through the candidates Roscoe was thinking this clutch was going to keep everyone on their toes. As the hatchlings skittered about - one of them even on top of another egg now - Roscoe merely shook his head and chuckled. They might all be blues and greens but no one could argue over the health of them, they were robust and active and that in the long run was more important he supposed then what color they were.

“ Just choose already.”

Nyasa muttered under her breath as she watched the obnoxious Blue. He’d have to have one heck of a rider if he was to shape up into a respectable dragon., and that still seemed highly unlikely. She just wished the creature would just move along so she could attempt to enjoy the rest of the rest of the Hatching. After all, there were two other Blues on the sands that seemed more civilized that their brother.

Somehow or other Damaged Eardrums kept his balance on the Pacifist Egg; quite a lot of skittering feet and waving wings and tail was involved. It seemed like he could have stayed up there forever if the egg hadn't suddenly buckled under his feet.

The blue gave a squeak of surprise and scrambled away from the collapsed creamy shell. Grabbing the fragment of his own egg from where he had dropped it he hastened off towards the candidates; nothing to do with him! Look Before You Leap smack him on the head with a wing and snorted.

The dragon inside the broken egg meanwhile... stirred. A dark tail flicked out of the shell, very dark in fact. Was it black? The Pacifist egg had been so big though! Dripping egg goop and with wings tucked in to his sides the hatchling stood up. If it was a black it was by far the largest that had ever been born. Whatever whispers may have been going around about him the dragon seemed unfazed, in fact he seemed so calm and collected that he didn't even need to shake or stretch himself out in order to get his bearings. No, this large hatchling just set off at an unhurried pace towards the candidates; his bondmate was out there somewhere, and he would find them.

Head First meanwhile was approaching the candidates quickly, almost racing towards them as a cord in his heart pulled him closer. He was still half way between the clutch and the candidates when he called out to Renio.

Roscoe jumped a bit as the egg beneath the blue collapsed, what a rude awakening to life! At least the hatchling within seemed to be unharmed..he didn't even look mad at the way he'd been brought into the world...a pity that he looked to be a black, though he'd always heard that they were small and weak and this one didn't look all that small..but then what did he know? He'd never actually seen an Atypical hatchling born, perhaps the weakness wasn't as apparent as he'd originally thought.

That did sort of nix his plans to run off before they started breaking eggs open with shovels though - he'd heard rumors that that was how they did it, rather undignified but whatever - he couldn't exactly run off when the Hatchlings themselves insisted on busting up each others eggs. For a few moments he wonders how Kindra was taking Sunnath birthing a black and he glanced at her to see her reaction before looking back to the eggs and hatchlings, willing the confident looking black to heard for the girls.

Three more impressions, three more happily bonded dragonets and riders. Darsha watched them all make their way across the sands to the area that had been set up for the feeding of the hatchlings.

Her breath caught in her throat when the black hatched. Oh stars and shells, it was beautiful. Darsha may have been partial to the color since both of the flits she had managed to acquire were black. But he was also big. Oh, to ride a dragon like that! It would be incredible.

Cai
(Tag Bereck)

"Master Bereck?" Cai frowned at the newest addition to the Sands. "At Benden hatchlings never shattered the egg of an atypical... And that is a very large black if I'm not mistaken." It may not have been phrased as such but there was a questioning alarm in her tone.

Nyasa’s eyebrow started to migrate north on her forehead as she eyed the new hatchling. Was that thing black? It looked black, but even she knew that Blacks were supposed to be little runty things that couldn’t hatch on their own. Maybe that Blue had punctured its shell? It still seemed odd, so she squinted and tried to see if she could catch a flash of blue or brown on the dragonet.

[Bereck - Tag Cai]

Bereck pursed his lips and peered across the sands. "No," he shook his head, speaking softly to the young healer beside him. "It's far too big. In general I would expect more force to be required to hatch a black too; the blue's weight spread across four feet shouldn't have been enough.... It does look remarkably black though, doesn't it? Bear in mind however that it's wet, covered in albumen, and that will make it appear darker than it is. Still," the healer shrugged, "I may be wrong but my marks are on a brown or perhaps a blue, metaphorically speaking anyway. We shall just have to wait and see whether I'm right or wrong."

[rochelle]

Holy sweet Ramoth that that black dragon was huge. Rochelle rocked up on her toes to stare at it better, a smile brightening up on her face again. She approved backs as a whole - they matched everything you wore, after all. And were around the same size as greens, just as fast. No worry over Flights and a memory.

Oh yes, that could be fun.

Bouncing may be mildly inappropriate but the rocking back and forth on her heels could certainly be attributed as such.
