Kyrielle nodded towards Reoakee. "Yes, this is Aila, she came with us this time. How are Luin and Alu-Lote? Are they upset that they couldn't come?" Kyri remembered the two occasions on which she had met Reo's azrein, they were very nice to both her and Thalanir. Suddenly, she felt a weight on her head, right between her fake mouse ears. Reaching up, she felt a small glass tube. Clutching it now, she brought it down to see that it was vial with a mysterious liquid in it. Head cocked, she looked at it in amusement, where could this have come from?

** GM Plot Device of Plotiness **

All seemed well in the party. People were receiving their mysterious vials of mutation for their Azrein or Azrein they took care of, Salamanders were flying, people were dancing... It was a merry time had by all.

But suddenly that statue all had been admiring/blushing at started to tip. It just lurched and fell over, shattering all over the cold meat table into tiny little ice cubes. Just, BASH!. The servants that had been around the table froze and stared where the statue had been, swearing someone else had done it. None touched it... not one of the servants. How could this had happened? The whispers started raising.... The band, shaken and being ushered back into complacancy by the disheveled conductor took up a more light and jovial dance to help herd people back to merriment. It took a few moments but soon everything was back in place...

Manga snatched the vial before it could be placed somewhere on her person, eyes locking onto the Ram who'd had it. But her gaze quickly shifted to the statue that seemed to have thrown itself into the cold meat table in a successful suicide attempt. No one seemed to be responsible, but Manga wasn't one to be superstitious. Magic seemed the most likely cause; it had been an ice sculpture, after all, and it had been sitting on a stone pedestal. Someone with prominent earth or water magic could've caused the disruption. Or maybe someone simply bumped it as they passed.

Oh well. It wasn't that great of a statue. The loss of it wouldn't be that great. She slipped the mysterious vial into a compartment on her belt before resuming her previous task. She sketched out the scene, then the changes in the guests as they slowly resumed their merriment.

((Oooh, wow. Kinda neat how they are along the same lines. 8D))

The elf listened quietly, not noticing the random vial that appeared. She would notice it later on, but for now she was to lost in what the other was saying. "You keep something that was ruined? Why?" But then she couldn't picture herself keeping anything with blood on it, even if it did bring comfort. Blood was well...blood. She didn't mind healing people who were bleeding and such, but to keep an object with blood on it, was just a spine-tingling no.

The sound of a loud crash startled her, and she looked around quickly. "What was that noise?"

Yvar blinked, causing a brief pause in his playing. "It is not ruined. Tainted, maybe, but not ruined. It still plays beautifully... but yes. It was... my friend's greatest treasure. Over the years... it has become one of mine. And... a reminder." At the sudden noise, the elf instinctively sprang to his feet, every muscle tightening and ready to spring him into action at a moment's notice. After a moment, he forced himself to relax. "It was most likely something falling over inside..." There were lots of decorations inside, after all, and a drunken soul was likely to bump into something at one point or another. He sighed and lowered himself to the ground again, resuming his playing with quivering fingers. "I'm too old for this," he grumbled to himself.

(( Yup! Which might make him the perfect person to talk to Eir about stuff like this because he's experienced in the subject. o3o ))

((That would be quite lovely. 8D))

Eir heard the pause in his playing, and after things had calmed down, she quickly went to apologize. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you with calling it ruined, it's just well, blood and it's well...yeah." she pathetically ended her attempt at apologizing. "Why have you stayed and talked with me? You don't even know who I am." The elf glanced towards the direction he was at, wondering why he was still even talking with her. She didn't even know his name.

"I'm Eir Avani, I don't think I've mentioned my name yet. And stop calling yourself old."

"I'm not offended. It's a fairly common opinion." As Yvar thought about her question, the girl introduced herself. Chuckling, he replied teasingly, "I am Yvar Ra, the ancient farmer." He then addressed her question. "I've stayed here and talked with you, Miss Eir, for two reasons. The first is simply because it felt like the right thing to do. Secondly..." He trailed off for a moment, taking a minute or two to think of the best way to say it. "If possible... I'd like to prevent others from following the path in life that I have walked." The lute's notes were soft, gentle, and a bit melancholy in their sound. "Bringing happiness to others... is not a bad way to live the last half of life."

(( Yes. Yes it would. o3o Especially since Yvar's a lonely old man. XD ))

"There is no hope for happiness anymore I'm afraid." Eir's voice was quiet, not quite ready to cry, but still very quiet. "I'm afraid you'd be wasting your time if you tried." She glanced downward and sighed. In her mind, there really was no hope for her. Her opinion was that, she was to far gone, and that she would never be happy again. "Miss Eir, go to the party! It'll make you happy! We insist that you go! If the party doesn't make you happy, then nothing else will!" she quoted the people aloud, their voices ringing loudly in her head. "And now I'm at the party, and I'm still not happy. There's just no hope for me."

"... Miss Eir. I have done a lot of time-wasting in my life--much more than I'd ever like to admit. This is not a waste of my time." Yvar was silent for several minutes. "The party did not make you happy. But this lute's music eased your pain. Hope is always there. It can be misplaced, but it is always there." He started playing a new song, this one changing pace and tone as it went. One part would be sad, but then it would build up to a strong, motivating tune, then down into a more gentle melody. It was as if he was playing the music for a show, the background music to an unspoken story. His words weren't reaching her; maybe the lute's song would.

Reoakee having not noticed a vial being slipped anywhere was surprised when Kyrielle pulled one from her head. “mm.. Ah Luin was moody because she couldn’t come. Though if she had she would have probably eaten an entire table of sweets by now. Alu-lote is doing alright, thankfully she isn’t as much of a pain as Luin and didn’t’ throw a tantrum that she didn’t’ get to come.” Nodding she smiled at Kyrielle. “You know someday I really will have to have you and your friends over for tea or something. I’m not much of a cook but Mei is pretty good at it.” Realizing that Kyrielle would have no idea who that is she decided to explain. “Mei is a little assistant that I seemed to have picked up she’s here at the party actually somewhere.” Reo looked around and shrugged not noticing Mei. She took another sip of her drink before hearing the loud crash of the ice sculpture. Choking on her drink she dropped the alcohol when she jerked in shock. The glass bottle shattered and Reo blushed as servants seem to have come from nowhere to clean things up. She apologized to them as the band started to play something light and cheery. Feeling shaken she looked at Kyrielle. “What was all that about?”
--
Mei could swear she heard a gasp before a loud breaking noise made her jump and cover her ears. She could hear people cleaning things up and the band started to play again. Using a finger she pushed up her makeshift blindfold and looked around. She didn’t see anyone really hurt so she wasn’t worried. Maybe a decoration feel? She looked up at the hanging decorations confused. None of them seemed like they would make that loud crash. She heard someone mutter something about an ice stature and she looked around. Having not noticed the lewd sculpture when it was there she didn’t miss its absence. Moving around the table she decided she was just going to have to keep one eye uncovered so she could see and still have a ‘mask’. It would be foolish to just keep going so blindly. Still she couldn’t see out of her left eye since it was covered so she wasn’t certain she wouldn’t bump into anything.

The sound of the music did put her at ease a bit, and she couldn't help but wonder why she never went into the music profession. Then she remembered she was very musically challenged. But she always loved listening to it. "Am I even allowed to be happy after what happened? It feels so wrong, but yet, everyone is expecting me to bounce back. And I just don't want to. Not yet. Maybe not ever. I feel guilty if I try to be happy. He's not here anymore, and yet I am. How is that fair? How is that right?" Everything came out all at once, her voice getting faster and higher pitched. This was all just so frustrating for her.

"Survivor's guilt is an ugly thing, Miss Eir. So I will pass along advice I've been given in the face of mine." He did not stop playing; his fingers refused to do so. "War isn't fair. Good people die and the rest are traumatized or desensitized. But in the face of that agony because you are alive and those you cherish are not... the best question to ask yourself is not, 'Am I allowed to be happy?'..." The notes went quiet, as if anticipating his next words. "The best question to ask is, 'Do I deserve to be sad?' ...I can say with surety that if those friends who I've lost to war were here and had seen the sulking I'd done over them, they would've dunked my head in a bucket of water, screamed 'What are you doing?' in my face as they pulled it out, and then repeated the process until I was myself again." He chuckled at the thought, the music returning to its normal volume. "I doubt your Aurori would be that crude, but I would not be surprised if a lecture would be in store." He sighed as he leaned against the stone wall behind him. "One does not simply 'bounce back'. It takes time... but it also takes effort. If you don't... you'll end up wasting the best years of your life longing for what you can't have. Miss Eir... please don't end up like that." More quietly, he added, "Don't end up like me."
