Deryk could hear someone else urging to get them out. Was it one of the students? He couldn't tell. Coughing, he turned towards Ofelia, barely understanding what she was trying to say.

"Just go!" he urged, bringing a hand up to shield his eyes from the hot embers that were spraying in his direction. The way was open now, but they weren't safe just yet. He could hear the cracking of the building all around them. It was ready to come down onto their heads at any moment. Trying to rush on through, he came to a quick halt as something crashed onto the ground in front of him, keeping him from running any further just yet. Something could be heard over head. Before he had much of a chance to move out of the way, he felt something hot and fall right onto him, bringing him to the ground.

"AAH!" he screamed as he was hit by the burning beams. He was pinned down. Tooley was keeping him safe to an extent for now, but his shield wouldn't hold out forever.

Ofelia heard the command to go, heard the fact that the door was open, and she was about to go when she heard the splintering, heard the scream, and her head turned just in time to watch Deryk get pinned.

There was no way in hell she was going to leave him behind, just like she swore back when they were getting the prisoners. She stopped her in movement towards the exit to try and figure a way back, her coughing loud against the growing flames.

"Deryk!" That was all she needed to say, she was going to go back for him. "Marcus! Ariane! Deryk's caught, back me up!" And with that she went back for her Leader, not willing to leave anyone behind.

The exit was open! Oh thank Jack! Junko ran for it, not paying the Hunters around her any mind at all. Home. Home. They had to get home. They had to be safe. Away from the Hunters, away from the fire. Out, out, out!

There was a crash and a scream from behind her and Junko skid to a stop just before the exit, eyes wide and searching for the source. There! Under the burning beams! The boil Lizzy had called her ally. She stopped and just stared, watching as a female hunter called to the others for help. Marcus? She knew that name. It was in their compendium...

Deryk..?

He was hurt...he'd die if he didn't get help. She watched them, silent as a grave. She should run.. "Do it. Get out of here." Junko frowned. But these hunters hadn't done anything to hurt them. Maybe Lizzy was right..? "It could be a trap." The Mistress hissed. All that one ghoul wanted was answers, though. And Deryk, Lizzy's ally, had been nice enough to warn his fellow hunters of the presence of her, Mot and Thackery. He..protected them? Maybe? She swallowed hard, watching the red-headed ghoul. She wanted to help him. She cared about him. Who was she? Red hair..freckles...Ofelia? She was naive, right? Was she missing an eye? She couldn't see from this angle. Marcus, though...she knew of him. He wasn't safe.

Deryk...was he perhaps one of their nameless hunter entries?

Junko looked around. What would Lizzy do? There wasn't much time...

She hoped she didn't regret this.

She ran back into the warehouse away from the exit, pushing hard on the beams. Flames licked at her hands and her sleeves and she gasped, jumping back away from them. Ow! Owowow! Jackdamnit. Um..

...Oh..she could..

Swallowing hard, Junko's hair carefully wrapped itself around parts of the beam that weren't on fire. There were few but they were there. Don't catch fire, don't catch fire..! She tugged, taking a few steps back and slowly lugging the beam off Deryk with a strained grunt. It hurt to have something so heavy pulling at her hair. It hurt so bad. "C-can you get out?" Junko finally asked before releasing the beam when a bit of fire got dangerously close to her hair. It tied itself behind her again away from the flames. Maybe if she pushed again. She hurried around to the other side and began shoving at the beam once more. This wasn't for a Hunter, or even a human, or anyone associated with a race or a faction or what have you. Junko was helping someone in danger.

Deryk continued to squirm from under the beams. It was no use. Hearing Ofelia's voice, he looked up with wide eyes.

"Get out! No time!" he shouted. He didn't want them to get caught too! As much as he didn't want to burn to death here. There was another form near him. Squinting through the smoke, he soon saw that it was one of the students. Wait... what was she going to do? The answer was soon clear as he felt some weight lift up and away from him. It wasn't a whole lot but it was enough to allow him to wriggle on through.

"Th-Thank you.." he said to her before looking towards Ofelia, "C-come on. We need to get out!"

Wincing as some of the flames licked him, he grabbed onto the student's arm to try and get her to run as well. Out the door.

Ofelia was surprised to see someone run forward and help, one of the students, but she was never going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Coughing out a 'thanks' as best she could she moved over to the pair and got behind them, pushing them forward. She'd be the last one out, always.

Well, at least the last one out for her group. The students she....cared for but not really? She would worry about the girl who took her hand of course, and now for this one who Deryk was leading, but the others would be okay right?

"Go go, Ah got yer backs. Jus' run!"

Who ever was trying to help them was doing a little too late in his opinion. They were already cutting it close and singes dotted skins. The taste of ash was in his mouth as he spat, saliva tinted grey.

Hardly a good sign.

Just before they could all make it out- A scream. Screams were not good, not with this much fire. "Ofelia!" She was heading back- "Goddamn it. Ariane-" One going but recklessly was bad enough, and his job-

Survive.

That whisper, that nag in the pit of his gut, telling him to leave them behind. The feeling of the vampire's hesitation to have him turning back. 'I chose you because you will not fall.' The haunting words, laced with expectations. Dis had chosen Marcus for his logic, for his will to live. Going into a fire, something the vampire loathed enough was brewing conflict with Marcus's conviction.
He'd swore not to let anyone die because of him again.

This isn't your mission. It wouldn't be your fault. The smoke is too thick, the fire has already sapped your strength enough, it would be suicide. He wasn't sure if it was Dis feeding him them the thoughts or his own mind but-

You've never been one dismiss your morals. Such a hindrance.

Dis's words flowing back at him. Risk his life or not, he'd made a promise to himself. Looking to the collapsing building, the moon hunter winced as the wood cracked along with the flames. "Damn Ofelia and damn me as well. Ariane, remain stationed and get ready to treat burn wounds." Dis sending him waves of anger.
Marcus was supposed to survive, and yet was acting like he had a death wish as he went in, eyes burning from the smoke. "Ofelia! Deryk! You both better not have ******** died you hear me!" The flicker of white and gold, and he moved to find them.

Once found, falling debris were scattering around them. "******** christ-" A beam of fire coming down, it was by luck the scimitar was in hand to cut the half burned beam before it descended on them. "The exit isn't far. Get low to avoid the embers and smok-" A cough, the air was going to kill them if the fire wasn't.

He almost missed the monster girl. "God, it's just ******** day isn't it?" Running into burning buildings, not just for humans anymore.

Mot stood back as the door was busted open for them, and wasted no time fleeing the burning building. Was he outside? He couldn't tell. His eyes stung badly, barely able to allow them to stay open any longer. So he kept them closed and stopped running until he felt rain again, or at least felt cool again.

Everything hurt. His eyes, his throat, his skin. Was everyone safe? He heard yelling...

[So sorry for the lack of replies ;; College is death.]

Lizzy wouldn't have left Deryk pinned under that wooden beam; she meant it when he called him an ally, even if it was more of a temporary sort of title... As he had told her during their first meeting, it wasn't as if he alone could change the system, and in some cases, the damage had already been done; how could they get ever get along? After exiting the building, they would most likely part ways; in the future, she might even find herself at the end of one of their net guns...

When Junko ended up being the one to save Deryk, the demoness couldn't help feeling a sense of pride; it meant a lot to her that someone she considered a soulmate shared her values enough to help a hunter out of a situation... She knew that not every one of her friends would be as generous as Junko was, in the same situation.

Some of them would probably kill Deryk while he was down.

With everyone safe, she turned and headed towards the open door; she would have cheered if not for the fact that she did not have enough strength left to do so. Instead, whatever energy she had left was channeled into getting out, just like the voice had instructed them to.

---

Ariane had lagged behind, the fire blocking her path; it was pure luck that she even found her way to the rest of them. When the beam fell on top of Deryk, she was already near the recently opened exit; just one step, and she would be free from the flames and smoke. As much as she liked to talk about self-preservation, and had never really outright called her fellow Death trainee a friend, she did like Deryk the same way she enjoyed hanging around Jude, or teasing Jeremy.

If only she could remove all emotional attachments. If only. The world would probably be a better place for her... Especially since there really wasn't much room for feelings when you're a hunter; at any time, someone you had growth fond of might die, while the ones you absolutely loath would continue to live. Fate was ironic that way.

She sighed, turning back to get to Deryk, Ofie, and if she had heard it correctly, Marcus; the latter might be one rank above her, but respect must be earned. Or intimidated, if you're a division leader. Either way, she didn't respect Marcus as a leader - especially not on this mission, since it was headed by Deryk - just as a person, so she had decided to ignore his instructions, and turned back as well. Besides, she was probably going to be of more help with hunter retrieval; which part of her looked like a healer type? Death division, death balls... She might end up accidentally killing Deryk instead. Suffocating him with her balls, et cetera.

However, no sooner had she taken the first few steps towards Ofie's voice did she realize that there was a small group heading towards her; everyone was there, along with the long-haired student. Since they were confirmed to be safe now, Ariane headed out the exit, waiting by the side of the door for her teammates as she looked around for the source of the person who had taken the door down from the outside.

It didn't sound hostile, but it was also difficult to tell... After all, whoever it was, it probably did not know that there were more than just students trapped in that building.

Ofelia looked up as she heard her name coming from Marcus, his voice closer than she thought it should be, and she somewhat wilted to see him coming their way looking rather...well, rightfully pissed. He was cutting down any beam that got too close to them which was awesome since none of them could survive it, but he was also calling her and the rest of them suicidal for running back into the flames. That prompted an unhappy frown beneath her scarf mask and Ofelia just kept her concentration on pushing the pair she was helping outside.

Ofelia wasn't really suicidal, she was more or less. . . uh....stupid. She just didn't want anyone left behind if she could help it, was that such a bad thing? There was no point in arguing though, they needed to get out, and Ofelia kept pushing until they were all clear. The cowboy was outside already, so was the girl with pink hair. There was also. . .Ariane? Good, good, she was there too.

Wheezing and coughing she tried to clear her throat, waiting for the smoke to get out of her lungs and eye. Her skin still felt hot and she knew she wasn't burned but what about the students? They didn't have shields, right? When fighting she'd always seen them bleed (which the hunters didn't do until things got serious) so. . . .should she be worried? "Are....are we all here? Did we all get out?" How many of them were there to begin with?

Once outside, Deryk coughed some more until he was finally able to breathe a little better. Sweet, sweet, fresh air. Looking around, he tried to get a headcount here. His hunter team was all out, and it looked like the students were here as well.

"Looks like we're all here.. Yes. Everyone alright?" he asked while looking around. He turned towards the long haired asian looking girl, lowering his head a bit, "Thanks again.."

To be honest, he didn't really expect to be helped out by one of the students, considering their general demeanor towards the hunters.

"Did... did anyone catch sight of what caused that fire...?" he asked, switching gears, while still wheezing a bit. The intermediate was doubled over as he was trying to catch his breath. The barricades that were there weren't by chance. He was sure of that. And warehouses didn't typically spontaneously combust, especially not abandoned ones. He couldn't help but feel like someone or something was trying to kill them. If that were the case, they were in trouble right now considering everyone took some hefty damage.

Junko didn't protest to being grabbed and dragged out, feeling tired from prying a beam off someone when she could barely breathe and it was way too hot. Normally she would try to get the Hunter off her, to free herself from their grasp and get away, but they were leaving and she didn't have the strength to make him let go of her even if she wanted to. She was relieved to be outside, pulling herself away Deryk when she could actually breathe fresh air and stumbling a bit on her own two feet. She bent down, her hands on her knees and her hair hanging limply around her like a lifeless black curtain. She was so tired. She heard Deryk's thank you and looked up, glowing green eyes peering warily up at him through the curtain of hair. "Y..you're welcome..." She sounded amazed to be saying that, and would look it too if they could see her whole face. A strange look was given to the one who had been complaining about it being a day of suicide. "I am not suicidal..."

Wait! Her friends! Were they okay? Were they all here? She looked relieved to see Mot and Lizzy, her smile wide as she tried to stumble her way toward them. She managed to get to Lizzy and leaned heavily against her soulmate, her hair curling around her friend with a happy little sigh. "Hi~. Are you two okay? Where's Thackery?" She realized it was the same question the hunters were asking as well, and she even did feel a bit like a broken record as she said it, but she had to know. She had to be sure.

At Deryk's question Junko frowned again and shook her head. "I have no idea. One minute everything was okay and the next.." She waved her hand at the burning warehouse. A thought struck her then.

"I heard a voice! Someone let us out! But who..?" Were they nearby? Junko looked around the immediate area for any additions to their group.

Lizzy had doubled over the moment she was out of the burning building, coughing and wheezing as her body tried to expel the smoke that she had inhaled. With each cough, she winced at the pain she felt from the burns covering her arms and probably face. It was an old building, probably loaded with flammable objects, but there was no reason for a fire to start by itself... Did someone set it on fire on purpose? Why? That fire wasn't normal or natural either; she was sure that she saw blue flames.

"I... I think so-" She returned Junko's smile with one of her own, relieved to see both her and Mot; although all of them were covered with blisters and burns, at least they managed to escape with their lives intact. She leaned against Junko as well, doing a mental headcount as she looked around. When Thackery was brought up, her eyes widened, and she leaned away from the ghoul to stare at the entrance - or rather, exit - of the building, squinting as she tried to see past the thick smoke, "N-no... He's not here! Is he still inside?! Did any of you see a boil with canine ears and tail?" She looked to the hunters for answers, Deryk's question unintentionally ignored.

----

Ariane kept quiet, focusing on recovering; her scarf was charred, and she was sure that she had gotten damaged by the fire, but she was alive. Deryk, Marcus, and Ofelia all looked like they needed to be treated for burns, but with a few bandages and some rest, they should be fine... Ofelia would get a nod from her; to be honest, she wasn't that concerned about the well being of the students. She was only concerned about their own numbers.

"No," She answered Deryk, fingering the chains of her weapon; the Fear shield probably saved her life back then, "So we shouldn't let our guards down..."

Now that he was out a little longer, Deryk was having an easier time breathing. He looked at the girls who spoke up, trying to recall whatever he could too. Yes. There was a voice. Yes, he recalled that much. It didn't sound like it belonged to any of the students, and it definitely wasn't anyone on his team.

"N-no. I hadn't seen any other students aside from you three. But. Was he the only other one that was with you?" he answered Lizzy. It sounded like they were missing someone. That... probably wouldn't look too good to the team. Missing student around the time of a fire.

Looking towards Ariane, he nodded at her words.

"Right. Don't think that was an accident. No. Something. Or someone had to start it. Probably still nearby. My guess at least."
PostPosted: Tue Sep 04, 2012 3:56 pm

" . . .should we split inta groups an' look fer the cause, or ya think that'd be a bad idea? Ah mean, how bad off are we?" Ofelia moved closer to the group of hunters, naturally feeling closer to her own kind than the students. She was still super thankful towards the one with long hair and the other girl for taking her hand, but still it felt safer to be with those who were, well, human.

And then she heard the talk of a missing student. "Ta be honest Ah only ever saw the three'a ya - if there was anyone else Ah never met 'em." Had someone snatched the kid? Was he still trapped inside? It'd be worse than suicide to go back in there now for a person they weren't sure was even in there still.

The conversation was interrupted by a loud tremour as the entire building behind them finally collapsed in a pile of smoke, flames, and finally, the endless torrent of rain.

Silence.

And then the sound of water splashing - foodsteps through the thick cover of ash and lingering smoke, of something glowing as a bladed weapon sliced the darkness-

- Pressed right against Lizzy's back.

"Nobody move." There was nothing amicable about the voice, nor the figure that stepped through, a simple looking Hunter carrying a small paper bag containing a single bottle of heavy liquor in his free arm. He took another second to look at the situation, from the Hunters, to the Halloween students who had escaped the chaos. It did not take long to put two and two together. He nodded first to the trainees and then to Marcus, "Glad to see you're alive Marcus, though I wish we met on better terms." A pause and then sudden realization as he addressed the trainees. "Are these the ones that started the fire? This is the third case of supernatural arson this week in this city."
