"Allright, Hunters!" Allan managed to simultaneously ruffle Jerry, Harrison, Marcus, and Gale's hair as he passed by. "Once through the portal, remember to look out for each other." He frowned, just slightly. "The Sahara is dangerous on its own, so make sure to follow me and Simon closely, we'll do our very best to look out for you."
He turned around to move into the portal and then swiveled back again. "Oh right! We are Hunters, but we are also nakama. Remember that true spirit comes from within, and always, no matter what, believe in yourself. Even when it seems hopeless, even during the darkest times, never forget always, always, we will do our best to fight, and to save those we can." The last part was a little pointedly directed to certain Hunters, especially ones who had witnessed the kidnapping of several trainees.
With another nod, the Sun lead hopped through the portal, Simon following shortly afterwards, and then the remaining Sun Hunters.
Surprisingly, the wind was light, though the desert sun, the temperature hit the trainees almost immediately, a layer of thick lethargy soaking into them the second they stepped through. The feeling only escalated as the weather persisted, several Hunters untying their scarfs and wrapping their coats around their waist and shoulder.
If the trainees were expecting anything, perhaps a giant gaping entrance as to where the fabled horsemen Lair was, they would be severely disappointed. Misshaped sand dunes covered the expanse well past the quavering horizon. The only break in scenery other than the relentless, painfully white sky, were a series of Runic Daggers on the ground, running in a wide circle. Allan followed the procession of daggers, thinning the group down into almost singular formation as they moved slightly downwards. Just before he got to the end of the marked path, there was a loud roar, the ground stirring, shaking vehemently.
Silence. And then a cloud of sand swept through the expanse, briefly blinding all Hunters. There was shouting nearby, the sound of something else going off, the ground quivering yet again, the sanding sliding around their figures, threatening to cover them entirely.
"Move!" The Sun lead's voice was hard to hear - his figure impossible to find through the haze, the torrents of sand everywhere. Something moved independently from the shifting sand, clumps and clusters, followed by an odd hissing. Another followed, a strange clicking noise-
- As the sand burst around the trainees, two behemoths rearing upwards, screeching. Even through the sand funnel, they were all too visible. BATTLE MECHANICS: TWIN CENTIPEDES REDUX TWIN CENTIPEDES: HP 75 EACHRULES PART 1:- This is a DOUBLE BOSS FIGHT mechanic. Please continue to use part 1 mechanics until part 2 is activated. Part 2 is activated whenever one of the centipedes dies. Simply move on and begin to roll from part 2. - You must target ONE of the centipedes PER POST: Boss 1 OR Boss 2. Boss 1 spits acidic poison (ACID), Boss 2 spits basic poison (BASE) . [ Boss 1 ] : SUCCESSFULLY HITTING BOSS 1 will make it turn its head towards you and spit acid (if you miss, and it is your first turn, then nothing happens, you can choose a target again) - It will CORRODE YOUR FEAR SHIELD and needs to be neutralized. If you do not attack BOSS 2 successfully (a hit) your NEXT post, you will automatically take 5 starting ACID damage- You will continue to take an ADDITIONAL 5 ACID damage every turn you miss boss 2 (so ACID turn 1 = 5 damage, turn 2 = 10 damage, turn 3 = 15 damage, etc ) until you hit Boss 2 successfully and your Fear shield is now coated with NEW BASE damage. See boss 2 now for mechanics. [ Boss 2 ] : - SUCCESSFULLY HITTING BOSS 2 will make it turn its head towards you and spit base (if you miss, and it is your first turn, then nothing happens, you can choose a target again) - IT WILL ALSO CORRODE YOUR FEAR SHIELD and needs to be neutralized- If you do not attack BOSS 1 successfully (a hit) your NEXT post, you will automatically take 5 BASE damage. You will continue to take an ADDITIONAL 5 BASE damage every turn you miss boss 1 (so base turn 1 = 5 damage, turn 2 = 10 damage, turn 3 = 15 damage, etc ) until you hit boss 1 successfully and your Fear shield is now coated with NEW ACID DAMAGE. See boss 1 now for mechanics. [ Part 1 Breakdown ] : - The point is of course, to continue to rotate bosses. Let's say for example, you hit boss one (successful hit). You will get hit with ACID DAMAGE. You then attack boss two next turn and you miss. You will take -5 starting ACID DAMAGE. You attack boss two again (for base) and miss. You take another -5 ACID PLUS another -5 ACID DAMAGE STACKED, so you are taking -10 damage this turn. You attack and miss again, you are now taking -10 PLUS another -5 ACID DAMAGE STACKED, making it -15 damage this turn. Finally, you attack boss 2 and hit, you are spit with BASE. Now, your character is hit with base on their Fear shield. Their BASE damage is now reset to -5 for the next turn they miss, -10 turn two, -15 turn three, etc etc. - Basically, you only take stacking damage when you miss (and are alternating bosses) [ SAMPLE BOSS ROUND ] : - Player A attacks boss one. (Miss) No damage! - Player A attacks boss one (Hit!) Fear shield is now ACID. - Player A attacks boss one (Hit!) Fear shield is still ACID. They take -5 damage (first turn with corrosive acid effect) - Player A decides to now hit boss two (Miss). They are still infected with ACID damage that stacks. They take -10 damage (second turn with corrosive acid effect) - Player A decides to now hit boss two (Miss). They are still infected with ACID damage that stacks. They take -15 damage (the third turn with corrosive acid effect) - Player A is now stupid and decides to hit boss one instead (Hit!) They now take - 20 damage, because their Fear shield is still ACID. - Player A finally decides to hit boss two. (Hit!) Their Fear shield is now BASE. Their damage is reset back to -5 BASE for the next turn. They take no damage this turn - Player A attacks boss two (Hit!). They now take -5 BASE damage this turn. Their Fear shield is still BASE and it is their second turn. - Player A moves back to boss one (Hit!). Now their Fear shield is reset to ACID, they take no damage this turn. - Player A attacks boss two now (Hit!) Their Fear shield is reset to BASE, they take no damage this turn, etc etc. ((OOC: ATTACKING BOSS 1 OR 2: DAMAGE DONE TO BOSS BOSS 1 OR 2 HP (Count up from the last person who did damage/ calculated its HP, and calculate accordingly with your damage done /100 ) FEAR SHIELD: ACID OR BASE Damage multiplier stack: 0 (successful hit), -5 (turn one miss), -10 (turn two miss), -15 (turn three miss), so on so forth HP remaining: YOUR HP REMAINING Runic weapons used: You can use Runic daggers, torch, chains and bandages. Petra came in at the tail end of Jerry's speech, listening for a moment with a concerned expression before she turned away, sifting through the crowd. His behavior was erratic as of late, understandably so, but it left her feeling agitated, a prickling beneath her skin she couldn't quite hide with the ice and indifferent mask. Still, she forced herself to move away regardless, focusing on other matters more important to the upcoming battle. He was a full hunter, he surely didn't need her, the intermediate death trainee feeling an absentminded foolishness for feeling so protective lingering somewhere in the recesses of her mind.
Absentmindedly, she mentally reached for Cain, feeling the dark, brooding presence rumble a response she felt more than heard.

Jerry's song and speech had Ofelia chuckling, the nerves she felt slowly fading away as she watched him go. There was something really off about him, not that she had any right to judge, but seeing as he was likely way more nervous than her and was still going on gave her a bit of strength that made all else fall to the wayside. She was going to be okay, everything was going to be okay/ Jerry was singing one of his weird songs (she liked his voice) so there was that.
And then there was Allan, the instructions to move into the portal, and the nerves vanished entirely. She couldn't be scared if they were moving forward. She was done being scared. Ofelia was ready for an adventure now, and she'd promised to make someone for Deryk when they got back - even if he hadn't really accepted the promise or anything. Ofelia kept to her deals even if they were one-sided. She moved towards to the portal and stepped in, Rue ready to be summoned at any moment.
Sun. Sand. Daggers. Bugs. Everything was white before her eyes, glistening beneath a level of heat, and Ofelia was sure she knew this place. She was sure she knew the monsters and their roars.
This was where Julie had died. This was where things had changed before she noticed.
It was so good that she was wearing flip flops.
Rue was instantly summoned, the boo hag starting her choir of cackles and screams in pure delight. Ofelia liked battles, she didn't have to think during battles. All she had to do was punch and stay alive. All she had to do was make sure she didn't die out there.
That was easy enough.
She charged towards the first of the creatures and smacked into them as hard as she could with her weapon, feeling a little relief as hard contact came into play. Rue absorbed the taste of FEAR with delight and started urging her companion onward though the words stopped as the monster turned and spit something in her general direction. It hit her shield with a sickening thunk and hissing, and Ofelia . . . wasn't really sure what was going on though.
Was her shield. . .melting?

The desert was the very last place Gale felt like being - especially after everything that had happened over the past few days and weeks. Despite having finally made peace with Ben's death, the hot sun and the burning sand still held a great deal of anger and frustration in Gale's mind; not to mention sadness and bitterness.
It was not just Ben who had died here, after all, but somehow it felt as though this was where everything had started. And the memories were not about to start fading now.
He hated the heat. But even more than that, he hated the the sand that swept up furiously around them, cocooning them all in a massive, whirling windswept tornado of tiny brown pellets. The ground beneath his feet was shuddering and rocking, and somewhere Allan's voice was shouting, the sound muffled and difficult to comprehend.
A horrible, awfully familiar clicking sound reached his ears, and then -

Syd remembered these guys. She was actually grateful to see them. They were huge and ugly and didn't seem--or act--like kids. With that in mind she summoned Izy and took aim, shooting at the second one, since most people started with the first.
But just as she was aiming, sand kicked up, blinding her. She cursed, bringing up her scarf to cover her mouth and forehead, leaving only a slit for her to see through.

Her shield was hissing and that was never a good sign. whatever the creature had spit out on her when she attracted his attention must have been doing it an, seeing as Ofelia hadn't fought the first monster thing due to her being slow and heavily wounded, she wasn't all that sure of the neutralizing and anything else that happened. All she did know was that she needed to get this stuff off as soon as she could and since she saw two others (she knew) attacking the second head maybe they knew something about that she didn't.
Raising Rue up she charged in again, ready to strike. She got lucky that her wanderings around on the beach lately had given her some edge on moving on the sands, and even though this hit wasn't as strong as the first one it did the trick. The monster turned and spit something at her (so damn gross) and the hissing on her shield stopped for a brief moment.
She didn't know why but she wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth. And then the silence turned to hissing again[ and she didn't like what was going on. Chemistry was not her forte but she was certainly able to run back and forth and punch things if she needed to.
Though maybe it would be best if she waited for a partner. Weren't suns supposed to be with moons? She was pretty sure she heard that back before all of this, but then. . . whelp. She never listened.

This time Syd waited for the air to clear before bringing up her crossbow and shooting the second centipede guy almost as hard and straight on as she could. He was blocking the way to getting the other hunters back, so he needed to be taken out.
The base squirt that hit her shield made her eye twitch as she raced off to attack the other centipede.

Syd checked the air, stepped back, leveled her crossbow, and shot the son of a b***h--wait, how did she know it was a son? Did centipedes have sexes? Or were they like worms and have both sexes? Or--
Well, either way, scientific curiosity would have to wait for another time, she decided as she got squirted again. Now she was neutralized--but nasty. And the things weren't dead yet, either, which sucked. She wiped some of the nasty off, waving her hand to make it plop on the sand at her feet. "Ick." Almost as nasty as the poop jobs.
Being a hunter was suffering.

Rep was about to say more to Jerry when the order went out to move out and they were herded to the portal by Allan. He gave the taller man a nod as he passed, they would find who they were looking for - he didn't doubt it anymore. As they entered the portal however the heat of the sand hit like a wall, familiar and searingly dry. He found himself looking for Harrison even as he instinctually untied his scarf from around his arm and wrapped it about his face.
But there wasn't time to find the other hunter as suddenly with a deep resonant rumble of sand they were attacked. It was those those ******** centipedes again. The lingering sense of deja vu intensified as he found himself in the same old situation as before. Only this time he wasn't emotionally unstable and hurting, he was in control, he had to hold them off till his moon could get to him. This time it wasn't uncertain, they were going to destroy those ******** horses.
He swung his hand out in a sweeping gesture, and like a shard of pure shadow against the brilliant whipping sand, Tracey materialised. Much bigger, much heavier and much meaner looking than before. His eyes went wide as he looked him over before laughing giddily.
"You got ******** FAT."
His grin twisted into a look of dark and sadistic glee and he turned his gaze to the arching centipede. "With ******** pleasure." he purred as he charged forward, in in a swing that made his arm sing with the old exertion of swinging the axe, cleaving into the creature hard.
And then, feeling the liquid hit his shield, he dropped to the sand and looked once again for Harrison again, peering through the milling crowds while still keeping one eye on the behemoths.

Without much of a word she followed through the portal following after Allan, with the herd of moons.
It really was different to see such a mass of them, but that thought was quickly eaten as she realized where they were. She... had faint memories of a place like this, a long time ago. Before her second time within the pods... she remembered the heat last time. The monster in the sands, the bloody sands. It took a bunch of Ceres will not to heave at just the thought of it.
Suddenly though she was cursing her choice of shoes, thigh high boots were NOT made for things like this. She could feel herself sinking in awkwardly. Curling her scarf over her mouth she tried to keep the sands out of her face, suddenly wondering also why they were wearing scarfs in the desert.
The monster came as a quick shock though, so she pretty much stared stupidly at it as others raced past her into battle.

It didn't take long after entering the portal for Roland to shrug off his coat and tie it around his waist, his scarf became a headband keeping sweat and hair from falling into his eyes as he marched along in the single line following the daggers. Sylvia meanwhile lay across his shoulders, his hands up and behind him slung lazily over her as he trudged through the sand.
<< Some place for a Lair... it's nothing but sun and sand, no beach even. >>
"Well no one said this would be -fun- Sylvia..." As if on cue the ground began to shake, just ahead two beasts burst from the sands, jaws clicking and acid dripping. Stumbling he slung Sylvia off his shoulder, a faint trail of cool mist following her blade tip as she started to hum and vibrate in his head.
<< Lot bigger then the horsemen... >>
"Y-yeah." Glancing around he noticed Rep darting ahead and his jaw practically dropped down in shock. Sylvia spoke for both of them when she chimed in.
<< Tracey is huge >>
He didn't have long to dwell on it though as he watched Rep sink Tracey into it's side. Even as he to join him he past Ceres along the way, he turned to shout, "Don't let this thing eat me Ceres!" As he moved onward.
Once in range he turned to the side pulling Silvya back behind him as her singing started to reach a high note, just as it peeked he brought the scythe down, forward, and back up in a curving arch, she didn't have as much blade as Tracey, but her sharpened tip made a solid cut into the monsters side as acid rained down from above causing Silvya to let out a mental yelp.
<< It burns! s**t s**t s**t s**t! Get away from it! >>
Stumbling back he turned to Rep, slightly pale, but trying to keep his composure as the burning goo dripped down eating his shield, "Y-You said Tracey was big, but uhhh, holy s**t." He added before stumbling back to avoid another shower in the acid. "What the hell do we do now?! You're the sun! How do we kill it!?"

Ofelia started towards the first bug again, her weapon still primed and ready. Rue was bitching in her head about the gross feeling on her shield and the teen went towards the first with the idea that maybe whatever it spit would get rid of whatever the second one had. It seemed to work out in principle and well, that was always good.
Her blow against the monster was more of a tap to get its attention (maybe) and when it turned and spewed its contents onto the teen she heard the hissing pause for a faint moment before starting again. Her shield was fine and holding up, she wasn't in danger, but at least now she had a vague idea of what needed to be done.
This was why being a Sun was awesome, she could just go running in and pound the ever-loving crap out of things while waiting for back up. All her hesitation was going away as she moved, the blood pumping in her body at the speed of light and her adrenaline practically boiling.
This was the right thing, Ofelia felt way more alive on the battlefield. Adventures suited her, thinking didn't. Now, now, she was ready to keep going and Rue was ready to strike if needs be.
All it would take would be one good hit, but should she risk it? No, no, better to save it and wait for when one was down and everyone needed to beat up whatever was in their way without any hesitation.

Finally, he spotted a tall, familiar figure in the crowd. “Dakota.” He half-nodded to the moon trainee before giving him a long look as he immediately jumped into his usual flirting antics. Normally he would have said something to the other hunter, but if Dakota was going to do this every time, what was the point of scolding him? Madeline would probably get a kick out of it anyways. He let go of Madeline’s shoulders when they began to head for the portal. Wilson busied himself with Allan’s words until he finally stepped through the portal.
The Sahara. Why was it that this place always held horrid memories for him? His first mission, Julie, and now this. If the other hunters thought it was warm, just try walking through sand with a mask on. Not exactly the most pleasant thing to do, but Wilson didn’t have much of a choice in the matter. His steps were slow, his breaths even slower as he secretly made a face each time he could feel his warm breath. Wilson kept walking, but the roar made him stop suddenly.
The billowing cloud of sand didn’t annoy him as much as it should have. He could hear the individual grains scrapping against the lens of his mask as he began to move even before he could hear Allan’s voice. The sight of the twin centipedes was familiar, but hardly welcomed. Wilson fought the urge to groan before he jumped back and looked between the two.
