Upon close inspection, Hizen found that the ring wasn’t solid and was designed to allow the rope through. ”You sneaky b*****d. No wonder I couldn’t get it correct the first time. You put trick equipment in our kits.”Hizen discarded the trick ring and pulled a pen from one of his pockets. Just to make it a bit easier on himself, he also substituted the rope he had been using for some basic twine that was also included in the lesson kit. Again following the steps presented in the book, Hizen attempted the bowline knot for the second time. (204 words)

Wood scrapped along the floor as Jynn sat at the desk. Before him were ten, short pieces of rope that laid in columns. Next to them was a nice thick book titled 'Knot Tying for Dummies.' Jynn picked up the paper weight and skimmed through it, the pages rustling as he read. The book was no help; the words made no sense and diagrams were just plain stupid. The boy sighed and shut the damned thing, putting it aside. Looks like he was going to have to cheat. Jynn looked around the class, until he picked a student (a blond boy, who looked like he knew what he was doing) and focused on his hands. It was impossible for Jynn to explain how or why, but if he focused he could always copy what someone was doing. He was hopping that this time would be no exception. Yoshi-Sensei gave a look over the knots that everyone was handing in, and over all he was quiet pleased. There was even one of the late students who was allowed to leave for the fact that her work truly impressed the instructor. The main thing was that he didn't have to stay in this class room any more. Slinging his pack over his shoulder, Kuro started to make his was behind both Loric and Miyuki. He wasn't far behind them, so he was able to barely hear a conversation if they had one. He really wasn't paying attention though, he thought he could feel the starting of blisters forming on his hands due to tying and tightening the knots that he was working on. Just as he got out of the classroom though he could feel something around him. Looking over he could see a single door with a light flickering over it. His heart started to race as he could feel a sweat forming on his skin, then he heard it. It sounded like a small child laughing, but it wasn't like a normal laughter. The Laughter and a light whisper that soon crept into his head gave him a feeling that he couldn't overcome, and just like Miyuki before him he bolted out screaming without even realizing what was going on. I’d go insane.”Despite the knotted and wadded mess that was his twine, Hizen had found it easier to work with than the rope that he had been given, so he spent the next 10 minutes carefully undoing the massive knot that had somehow formed in it. Picking the ends back up again, Hizen carefully followed the steps as laid out in the book, making sure each line passed through its proper place around the pen he was using. (202 lines)

Once again the intercom rang to life as an elderly voice assailed the ears of all that were within the walls of the academy. "Good afternoon, my lovely students~ I hope your first day of classes went by smoothly and all of you are excited to go down this difficult road of studies. I have the utmost confidence you all will meet the upcoming challenges with grace and integrity." The words flowed through the speakers in a cheerful sing but after a short break, the man continued with a stern sound, "It's come to my attention that certain students have talked about hearing and seeing strange things upon leaving. I suggest you do not entertain any of these fantasies. When you are done with your classes, leave the premises." And with that the intercom cut off with an eery silence.

Description: A dark, eerie hallway with a slightly opened doorway at the end. The lights at the end flicker on and off and the feeling of dread fills the air around it. One may notice a single icy breath when they near but that will be all.

Was he not affected by what had happened in the hallway? She must have looked like an idiot to him; though, she did not have much choice in the matter. The young girl’s body had just reacted to the situation in what it felt was the appropriate manner. However, she wondered what had happened to him. ‘Was he drawn into the hallway? Why is he taking so long?’ Miyuki grimaced about what possible fates had come to reality for that boy. ‘Actually,’ Miyuki began to actually question the reality of what had just happened. She was not a strong believer in life after death. That belief included anything that was slightly related to that particular subject. ‘Was that Genjutsu?’ the girl questioned thinking about everything that had happened so far. That was the hypothetical situation that made the most sense to Miyuki. Her Genjutsu ability, as well as her ability to ward Genjutsu, was not her strongest asset as a shinobi. Perhaps, Loric just had a stronger will to fight Genjutsu. After about five minutes, Miyuki could feel her body finally beginning to respond. Her steady breathing became more natural, rather than forced like it had been before. The young girl pushed herself up from the ground. She leaned back using both of her arms as support. She also allowed her legs to stretch out. The trembling had ceased for the time being, so she assumed taking on a more relaxed stance would assist this behavior.

I think I’ll have some fun and learn the hand cuff knot.” Hizen flipped through a few of the pages to the diagrams of the hand cuff knot. Pulling two scrolls from his pack to use as substitutions for wrists, Hizen read the instructions for the knot several times before trying it himself. Carefully following the directions, Hizen cinched the knot down and prepared to test its integrity. (201 words)

He couldn't imagine how bad it must have been for everyone else. As he worked, his thoughts went back to what the principal said. Was it really as dangerous as he made it out to be? Or was it just a ghost story? Strangers things had happened in Sound, after all. Jynn quickly made easy work out of the first rope, laying his first knot down on the table. He inwardly sighed as he looked at the remaining lengths of cord. One down, nine to go.

Now it was time for a second knot. Hattori flipped ahead to Chapter Three. The next knot in the book was the Sheepshank knot. This knot has a very specific use. With it, you can shorten a long rope without cutting it. This could come in useful someday, I suppose. It's a bit more complicated- lets see if I can get it on the first try.
Hattori took his span of rope and began to weave it around itself into the somewhat-complex Sheepshank Knot. First, he folded the rope on itself. Then, he wrapped the ends around the folded part in such a way that it would hold the rope tightly, and yet ultimately shrink the overall length of the rope.
Just as he was going to toss the rope aside, Hattori had a strange feeling, as though he were being watched. Hattori looked around the room, and located the origin. Another student was intently watching Hattori work. In another forum, Hattori might have cared. Here in detention, he couldn't care less. Although, Hattori thought. He gave the boy across the room a sardonic eye and smirk, He should try and actually learn the ropes on his own, without cheating. This isn't rocket-science after all.
Hattori returned to his knot. With a swift pull he affirmed that the knot was taught, and successfully shortened the length of the rope. He compared it with the picture, and it looked spot-on correct. With that done, he moved on to rope number three, and chapter number three.

Mai sulked a little as she looked at the robe before her, she was really upset that she had been so late for the class, it was pissing her off a little, she just signed huffed a little in her own inability, she looked back at the book, for how to tie the knot again, she wonder for a second why it was so hard, it seemed easy, but as she tried to get the robe to move into the position she wanted to tie the knot. Mai huff a little as she hooped the robe on ether side of the middle of it, she was trying to hold them in place and pull the end around into them, she manage to get one side, but wasn’t able to get the other side of the robe into the loop, and as she managed to get the robe into place, she lost her grip and the knot come undone. Mai huffed again as she picked the robe up again and worked on getting her hoops again, she took a deep breath to calm herself, and steady her fingers, and she fiddled with the robe, trying to get the knot to work this time around hopefully. The next knot on Hattori's list was the Bowline. This application of the rope is used to make a useful loop, Hattori silently read, The loop is fixed in place, and very secure once in place. Hattori began to make the loop when the announcement bell rung.
According to the announcement, some students where having odd daydreams- mysterious flights of fancy. When the announcement ended, the Fuuma felt an ominous feeling wash over him. His eyes wandered to the window, and paused on the afternoon sky.
With a shake of his head, Hattori shook away any fears or notions he had about the mysterious illusions, and returned to his knot-tying. "Where did I leave off," He mumbled, fumbling with the rope, "Oh, right, the Bowline."
Hattori surveyed the diagram in the book once more, than began the tying of the Bowline.
The bowline was required Hattori to first loop the length of rope around to make a sizable circle for the loop. He then made a much smaller loop with the long end of the loop. The student weaved the short end through the small loop, around the back of the long end, then back through the loop again. With a sharp pull, the knot was complete. Damn, I'm good at this.

Jynn sighed and closed his eyes, rubbing his fingers against his temples. He had to focusing on his trick for a moment. After too long, the damned thing started to give him a headache. The boy slouched back in his seat and looked up at the ceiling. He caught yellow light from an early afternoon sun in the corner of his eye. He needed to get out of here. He reached out and started to slowly mess with the rope. At least it was quiet in the class room. Considering that this was detention, he figured it would have been a lot more rowdy. Maybe it was because they weren't allowed to talk. He wasn't sure. He was just glad it helped with his focus. Soon, tying the knot became easy as he was finally able to recall his last success. Jynn's face split into a grind as he laid the second knot down next to the first. He looked around, watching everyone else. The blond boy from before was getting creative with knots. A few others were still having trouble. For some reason that made Jynn smile more. He'd be out of here in no time.

((2190 words before this)) Shiro almost shouted for joy, when she remembered that she was standing in front of the grumpy sensei. "Thank you Yoshi-sensei!" she states excitedly before turning to leave, she snapped her fingers and Bou woke up, stretching and yawning from her desk, he licked his nose a couple of times looking sufficiently groggy from his nap. "Come on you lazy puppy." she states with a grin before the little dog trotted over to her. "Oh, and I will do my best to not be late again." she adds before picking Bou up and heading out the class door. She had really wanted to get there on time, she didn't get to know any of her class mates, with the exception of one. A 'Hattori Fuuma' ...She hummed lightly as she looked around the room and located her late-for-classmate. "Gambatte." she states quietly giving a covert thumbs up in his direction. She felt a little bad that although she had shown up late she was getting to skip on the punishment for doing such a good job. However the end of that thought made her happy again, she had done such a good job that she got to go home on time. Finally Shiro stepped out the door taking note of the few classmates who had left already, a grin wide across her face, she was going to go have those steamed meat buns after all! However she paused taking note of a strange sound and an eerie feeling. Her ears stood on end and her tail poofed up as she tried to figure where the sound was coming from, it sounded like laughter, but, the quality of it was no laughter she had ever heard before. Her skin was crawling, but she had to see what was going on here. Her ears turned like satellite dishes as her eyes narrowed until they were shut and she sniffed at the air strongly. Bou whimpered quietly in protest to this idea, but Shiro was on the hunt now. She could smell each of her class mates and the others in the building, also she took note of another who seemed to be reacting similarly, was there another inuzukan in the academy?
