He was sick, tired, and emotionally strained. He hoped he was numb, but he felt too much. Worse yet, standing only made him feel how wrecked his body was, and his stomach turned inside itself like many slippery eels. Everyone else was in no better shape, and while they were alive and back home, no one was celebrating. No win. Just loss. Alive seemed like a very poor consolation prize. Any attempt to even think of smiling and offering comfort was beyond his scope, and he retreated into himself, trying to just keep up on both hooves.

The boogeymen only brought in more nausea. They made him SICK, and he mustered a feeble glare at them under tired, dark eyes, before the horsemen requested their presence. For anyone else, he would say no. Going to his room - no, going to Barth's room was all that he wanted to do, but the horsemen had his respect and what little his heart could feel right now.

Allowed to go, he moved in the somber heard out of the gym and to the woods. It wasn't so much a ceremony as walking on a pair of adults talking, and then a moment of reflection. Wasn't that what Death was good at? Right now they all had to reflect, and he wasn't sure he could take in all he had seen. He didn't want to commit some of these things to memory, but the soft words of the Clan leader told him it was a duty to them that he remember.

In loving memory.................the clans................Riley..................and so much more had passed on either in him out around him.

Breathing deep, he nodded, and when excused, Calder simple stood, wrapping his arms about himself and looking at the ground.

Rest in Peace.

No....

Not Peace.

Never Peace.

At one point in time, but Jack knows when, Ace had gone completely MiA. Was he a coward after missing class in conquest? Maybe, but was name-calling all that necessary given he managed to live out of a mass genocide that almost took him with it? Anyone would be fearful after that. Unfortunately his disappearance was too early to be regarded in relation to the genocide. While his "friends" fought furiously around him (and by friends only through species relation) Ace chose to hold back. He was dishonorable, he was cowardly. So sure, coward is the most tame thing you could call him after such an event. When the hunters bore down on them he was unprepared, unaware of that particular world being a reality. He didn't even know that they were even called hunters but it was impossible to ignore the clash that occurred between the students of Halloween and the suspiciously uniform reapers. And so when that island fell and took everything with it, Ace had realized something.

Amityville was not the place for him.

Not if THIS was the kind of thing that they got into. Not if THIS was just another trip for them. Not if these reapers were a very common occurrence. If there was one thing the greed demon valued over his money and riches... it was his life. Or.. er... unlife. But even then, the boil would not have much of a chance to think things over as the phoenix rose from the grave of a society so archaic not even a single artifact on his fathers estate could match their date. And with a single explosion they were ALL wiped out, then swept into the sky as a fury of insanity. Ace, like the students and hunters, got lost in the insanity. He too fell victim to the plague of insanity and would return home through the portal not quite the same as before. He would fall asleep with his suit in tatters, his eyes bloodshot, and whispers bothering him like a skelevision running without a channel.

That buzzing just continued even as he fell asleep. Riley's statue, as it had made such an impact on them, only bummed him out. She owed him a FAVOR, and the demon would not understand for a few days the utter significance of this and how she would never be able to do so again. It didn't matter to him yet. But as the Boogeymen took her away and the somberness filled the air, Ace fell victim to the same sleeping spell as all the others only to awake to a very unhappy ending later.

Ace never had a hangover before but this right here? This was pretty close. Like a zombie soldier he followed the crowd while rubbing his head. All of this.. was too surreal. Like he was part of some Horrorwood epic that had to be split into eight separate movies and now was the last installment.

Listening to death and Medea speak... it was just numbing. Ace really wanted to go home. It would be harsh to say he didn't care. Absolutely he cared and it was taking a while to really settle in especially with all of the buzzing still in his ears but that could be entirely unrelated to the insanity. The only thing that he could think of was how useless he was and how he would be unable to help the remaining clan members on their rebuilding process. He hung his head then suddenly felt a twinge of rather heavy guilt.

"Ylaria-" he mouthed the jewelmaker's name before trying to stand on his tip toes and look for the death clansman. He didn't know what he would do if he saw her- all he wanted to know was that she was okay even if it meant pushing through the gathered crowd a little bit. Did she still have his pin? What if she didn't? He didn't have time to make another one! It wouldn't even look HALF as good!

Frowning he paced towards the herded group of non-Amityville students prepared to leave with one thought still weighing heavy on his now scrambled mind:

Amityville was not the place for him.

Waking from her deep sleep, Mei propped herself up onto her elbows, glancing about the room half lidded. She wasn't sure what all had happened when she had passed out, nor did she care to think about it, but she was thankful to be awake, and a little more sane. The voices were gone, only the voices that could be heard were those that belonged to the people around her--just the way it should be.

Not wanting to move, she decided it was best to get up and find out what exactly was going on. All she knew at the moment, was they were in the gymnasium.

Scouting the room for any familiar faces, she gave up soon after, hoping that instead she find out if they were permitted to leave and go back to their dorms.

The students were instead, gestured to by the death priestess, Medea, to follow her and the rest of the clan led by the bogeymen to take part in the ceremony. Without a word, the doll followed the rest of the crowd.

Mei remained silent throughout the ceremony, not wanting to speak up or give acknowledgement of any sort as they spoke. With everything that had happened, it was a little too much for her to take in all at once. More so for the horsemen, surely. She would, however, do her part to aid them when needed. It was the least she could do considering what had happened.

But for now, she just wanted to go back and rest. Hopefully even locate a certain halfbeast.

Coming around had not been easy, the haze of sleep still begged Mitsu to keep her eyes closed. Just a few more minutes and she would be rested. Just a few more minutes and she could get up. The bad dream would be just that, nothing but a figment of her imagination. Perhaps she had been put in another trance, much like they had done to her on Death Isle. She would simply open her eyes and find herself back on Conquest and everything would be fine.

Everything was not fine.

Hearing the moans and muttered noises of the other students Mitsu finally forced her eyes to open and found herself in the gym. So it hadn't been a dream. She had truly just watched a culture, an entire race be destroyed. Riley was gone, nothing more than a statue. The only thing on the lycan's side at the moment was the fact the voices in her head were subdued and quiet.

Now awake it didn't take her long to sit up, searching for the person she had been looking for before sleep had claimed her. "Shun?" She stood on shaky legs, pushing herself forward in search of her reaper. "Shun?" It took her a moment to find him, panic already settling in. Had he not made it back? Had something happened to him?

She was nearly at her wits end when she finally spotted him not far off joining with him shortly before the Death Clan Priestess addressed them. Mitsu was mostly lost on what was going on, she had heard some of the conversation but had been mostly focused on one task alone.

Slowly she followed the crowd outside where they gathered at the Weeping forest were a lone figure spoke to them. It was sad to think back on the memories and the few clans members she had spoken to. Their teachers and that nice old man that had tried to show her how to play diplomacy. Were they all gone or were some of them here?

When the silence was finally broken and people began to depart Mitsu looked to Shun, weary eyes pleading him to go back to the dorms. She wanted nothing more than to see something familiar and let her mind ease back around what had happened. Later...later they would need to figure out what to do about Riley. Had they really taken her away?

Black hollow eyes stared quietly towards the ceiling of the gym before mind fell back together. The FEAR flickered slowly to life, purple once more instead of tainted gold with insanity. Slowly she sat up watching the world slip into place, dull and purple, it was a nice change from the voices and all the grey.

"Riley..." the name slipped between her lips as she looked around. The statue was long gone, students where sitting up and the priestess the one from the vision was slowly burning incense around the room. She wanted to get up and talk to her, to ask if she knew what had become of the statue but she found herself far to tired for that.

The twin holes in her chest from Harrison probably didn't help.

She stumbled into a standing position, she wanted to ask so many things, but it seemed the time for that was not now. She watched as Medea and the Bogeyman spoke and couldn't help but frown, if that was how they spoke to her, and considering the reaper who knocked her about, she wasn't going to find Riley any time soon.

"We would like the students to come along"

Along? Ceremony? She glanced about as students started to file after her, she did not argue, she didn't hold back, she simply followed along. Eventually they where gathered off in a clearing, not far from the school at all. If she wanted she could make the walk in no time to this area where they stood. She watched as the last elder, Death it's self, spoke to them.

It all felt heavy, all the words spoken weighed on her shoulders atop the other issues she carried. The voices whispering quietly in the back of her head, the loss of Riley, watching thousands snuffed out. With just this it felt like everything was coming to a close for the time being but it was expected that the students continue to aid and serve.

She was so tired and felt so broken in that moment, all she could do was nod quietly.

As Mei slowly came to, she held her hand against her forehead. Touching the imbued scroll upon her brow lightly. It felt as if her head were splitting apart. How long had she been asleep?

Pushing herself up off the floor she looked about. The Bogeyman were still here as were the Clansmen. The smell of the pyre filling her nose with a familiar scent. She looked around, blinking her eyes slowly to take in the gymnasium and those around her. Her memories were still a bit foggy.

As they were motioned to follow she could feel a sense of peace wash over her. Though small things here and there nagged at her, she knew things were out of place. The Clansmen's home was destroyed, all their culture left to the memories of those who had survived.

She followed the other students quietly, out into the the forest that seemed to have been cleared away. Mei had seen it from a distance but never really went into it.

The ghoul listened as she stood about. She felt...sorry for these survivors. It had to be hard watching your home and everything you know vanish into nothingness. To not be able to return to a place where you felt comfortable and safe.

For a moment she wondered if her teachers from the Death and Conquest Isle had survived. In the back of her mind she had a slight feeling of guilt that she buried away when she thought of Ylaria. Why was that? She had enjoyed the class that the Jewelmaker had instructed. So why did she have this horrid feeling tugging at her emotions?

She glanced about, wondering if the clansman would make an appearance or if she was off somewhere.

Either way, the need to head back to the dorms and just be alone for a while seemed to overwhelm her.

Aurian awaoke, groggy. There were voices around her, a hum of overlapping words and conversations, none of them making much sense. Rubbing at her eyes, Aurian blinked repeatedly until the hazy blur resolved itself into... the gymnasium roof. Exciting stuff.

She peered left and right as she slowly pushed herself up to a sitting position. The last thing Aurian remembered was dragging herself through the portal, the Insanity phoenix diving through the one meant for the Hunters. Less than they deserved, she recalled thinking at the time... then not even a memory of the other side of the portal, just here, now.

The sight of several Horsemen had Aurian sighing in relief. Medea was present, and the Heirs, and signs of the distinctive fashion of each of the Four Clans in the crowd, mixed in among students. Their homes might be gone, but at least the people were safe.

She listened half-heartedly as several of the adults argued. The teachers seemed to be striking some sort of deal with the leaders of the Clans, but it sounded like a lot of rules to Aurian. Hopefully more of the younger Horsepeople would be able to attend Amityville, not just stay out on their reserve (it sounded kind of lonely - maybe Aurian could visit and bring them spookies?). Because she wasn't giving them her full attention, it took Aurian longer than most to realise that that person speaking up there was Death. Aurian stared, eyes wide, trying to memorise everything about the figure in the long black cloak. It was only when black spots danced in her vision that Aurian remembered to breathe.

The adults began to leave, but Aurian remained shell-shocked. Death. She'd been in the same room as Death. The ultimate Reaper. The leader of her favourite of the Clans she'd visited. Oh Jack, thank you for this day, for this gift.

Shaking, Aurian sat back down. The rest of the announcements washed over her, details lost but the main points covered. Mostly. She did catch Medea promising that the students would see them again. Aurian smiled, relieved, but couldn't bring herself to move.

The hubub of voices started up again, almost but never quite drowning out the set that had never stopped but couldn't quite be heard. Aurian would just sit here for a while. And maybe close her eyes...

If Amphi could tell you how she made it home, she would. However, when she woke, she woke alone and tired.

So very tired. The kind of tired that was like....swimming through the strongest current in the ocean, swimming to the deepest part of the sea.

Her teeth kinda of hurt too as she played with one of her fangs and flushed. Oh....that's right...she had bitten Thanatos.

Whoops.

Sighing as she attempted to push herself up. She followed Medea and the boogeymen to the Lost Clan Reserve and watched with saddened eyes.

The poor Horsemen....

She would honor them and their teachings, especially of that of War. She had no words to say though and instead, turned on her heel. Perhaps she would come to visit them, perhaps not.

For now, She wanted to find Thana and apologize. That was something she could do in the moment of now.

Awake. And sick. Not moving he was content to lie still. To listen. The voice might have been gone but the memory remained. A memory he could do without yet would be unable to forget. He'd lost that. No more mental safety net. No more hiding. He couldn't forget anything anymore. Boogymen coming and going and he didn't mind really. The horseman seemed to know what she was doing thus, little concern came from the siren.

Israfel sighed as he followed them, content to listen and watch. No questions bubbling forth, no inane pestering and idle chatter. Just silence from the once chatty bird. Four Clans to Lost Clans, it didn't matter. They were alive and could rebuild. he was more sad they had lost their home. And lives. Culture meant little to him, but life, home- that mattered. That he could pity them for.

They would stay and rebuild what they could. As far as Israfel was concerned, he could only feel pity. This was not their home. He doubted it ever would be.

Arynek woke up from the sleep, however, the nightmare didn't wash away, she still had those awful memories about all the battles. The voices in her mind were still there, but much lessened. Her mind was heavy, and sleepy, as if she was still dreaming.

So what made her fall asleep?

Arynek looked around and found a familiar smell. That was the incense scent she knew in Death Clan. Probably Medea, the highest priestess, put them to sleep.

According to what the Bogeyman said, who was suspicious of the Clans, the former Clan members were accepted as protected member of Halloween. That was a good thing? The shadow ghoul wondered. The horsemen were a pride species, would they be reconciled rather than taking chance for revenge?

Anyway, Halloween would face troubles, obviously.

Medea invited all the student to join a ceremony.

"Ceremony?.....For what?"

In front of the remain horsemen and the students, a Clan announced that they no longer called the Four Clans, but now The Lost Clan. All of the cultures of the Clans fell, so the horsemen reunited themselves into one group. A group shared the same objective - rebuild together. As what the male horseman speaker said, what happened was full of sadness, but it's also a chance for change. To the shadow ghoul, she would never forget what happened on the Isles, happy, excited, disappointing, angry and.......sad moments. All of them were hard to ignore.

It seemed that the horsemen were now more willing to cooperate with Halloween, as she knew, the horsemen were quite arrogant, pride of their own cultures and not really opened to outsiders. Arynek could see how tough this species was, they recovered quickly from the sorrow of losing their home. Horsemen, now known as the Lost Clan, was really an interesting species. The ceremony ended with Medea's famous quote: All paths lead to the same end.

There was still some times left, maybe it would be a good idea to find Shenny and get her number?

"Shenny?" She yelled at a tall ghoul.

Rafael was feeling somber when he awoke.

The sleep helped to soothe the confusion and terror in his mind, but it didn't calm his nerves entirely. The feelings of detachment remained . There were too many thoughts in his mind and too much complex emotion for him to begin to sort through.

The rat-boil was normally comforted by large crowds, but today he wanted to linger on the fringes. He listened politely as everyone spoke, feeling as though he were once more on the outside.

He wanted to stop and say goodbye -- to Mort, to Taryn, all the other new friends he made. But he couldn't bring himself to make any long, great farewells. He was too exhausted and too homesick and too confused.

Glancing around uncertainly, Rafe shoved his hands in his pockets and made his way toward the gates. His parents would be waiting for him, or maybe is brothers, or his cousins. Probably all of them, really. And as much as he hated the confining life of the colony, right now he wanted nothing more than to go home and spend a lot time thinking about everything that had happened so that he could begin to understand....and decide what he wanted to do with his life.

This hadn't been the exchange program he was anticipating.

Shenny was still confused. After resting for a bit she felt much, much better, but still, too many things had been happening recently, and it was hard to think them all over. What bothered her even more, she were still hearing voices: they weren't as loud, as the were before, but still she was hearing them. And the sorceress couldn't help feeling this strange nostalgia, loneliness, sadness that stroke her with a touch of Phoenix. Strangely enough, she didn't want to talk or discuss what happened: despite the loneliness eating her from the inside, she felt an urge to actually be alone. It was good she could finally head back to her school; she needed a lot of time to get over everything.

That was what the ghoul was thinking during the little farewell ceremony. The Four Clans were lost... probably forever, what remained of them formed the Lost Clan, just one and tiny. Medea, this tricky priestess, of course she was on the top again... jack yeah, what poor horsemen needed most of all now is her jacking trance guidance. Jack yeah. Shenny shook her head indifferently: it's not her business... not anymore.

However, she was really surprised with the figures talking. The one who actually introduced Medea... there could be no mistake. This figure didn't need to be introduced: Shenny could feel it with the every inch of her being, so much power, so much fear, insanely strong and ancient, yet calm war radiating around him. There was nothing to compare, except the ground, the sky, the moon... it was Death. Though, he was speaking quietly and calmly, his mere presence was overwhelming. Shenny felt she's kneeling, falling to her knees, willingly and unwillingly at the same time. For a moment, she was wondering, how could the Death survived the destruction of the islands... but it was neither important, nor appropriate question.

Anyway, it ended, it all ended. There was a new time now: a time to think over, to make conclusions... to work out the future.

Shenny noticed a familiar shadowy silhouette. "Hi, Arynek! I have to get going now... but it would be great not to loose each other. Here, that my number, drop me a message whenever you feel like".

User ImageWillow held a smug smile on her face, despite feeling very nauseous; when Medea asked that they accompany the horsemen to their new home. It was even more amusing when the bogeyman seemed to have an issue with them getting credit, again. When he wasn't looking she stuck her tongue out at him. Immature she knew, but she felt it was warranted they kept getting the shaft when they deserved recognition. It took a while to shake the feeling but when she felt better Willow nodded in agreement she wanted to see the ceremony.

Willow followed the procession to the ceremony quietly as she watched Medea. Who she seemed to becoming more interested with, she didn't agree with all the visions the horsewoman showed her but that could all change right? Like the visions the soulless one showed them. Willow's tail flickered as she looked at the forest as they walked through it. When they stopped in a clearing Willow's head tilted as she watched the figures talking. One of them was Arel, the others she didn't know.

The speech the Clan member gave was moving, when Willow was in the horsemen's lands she wanted to go back, she wanted to explore, to learn more about their ways. Her tail flickered, would they be allowed do such things now? She knew their kind had mostly been wiped out but if they taught others about their past and their customs would it help keep them alive?

She couldn't help but smile when the Heirs gained a job, she'd seen them around the school but she had a feeling they were mostly bored. Maybe at some point she could be strong enough to offer her help? She could aid in keeping watch, to keep their new land from being broken into? Of course she'd have to figure out how to fix the problem of those getting around her natural ability to sense intruders. That still bugged her, her ears flicked back in irritation at the thought before it was shoved aside.

There was so much to learn, to do, maybe they could even offer help? Willow was watching the horsemen.

Willow nodded in silent agreement she wouldn't forget. She couldn't forget. The welcoming of feel of conquest with the koi ponds, the feel and smell of the Death's clan island; War was lovely as well with its great trees. Famine was odd, but for the few moments she'd been there, it was interesting still. The tigress wanted nothing more than to be able to help in some way. Yet still, she felt the need, the want to learn. They might've learned a lot more if the hunters hadn't showed up. There was a sore look on her face at that thought; they'd tried so hard to save the horsemen lands too. Still she was quite thoughtful.

When the ceremony seemed to be over and everyone had started talking or leaving? She couldn't really tell, she paused hearing Medea, All paths lead to the same end it reminded her of another figure that had at one time been important to students here, still it effected them We are Halloween and we cannot die. While the Horsemen were clearly not Halloween they were now welcomed here.

She couldn't help but hum a tune of something she'd heard once, Don't stop, believing. She wasn't about to bust out into song when she didn't know the words but just the tune. Everything was over after all, her tail flickered and then she stretched. The horsemen had helped them so much... She just wondered if there was a feasible way to help them, even when they were still stronger than herself. After things had, had time to settle Willow decided she'd offer her help where she could. However, for now Willow just wanted to go back to her room and sleep it off for a while. Willow bowed towards the horsemen, gratefully for their help and that some of them were still here.

She needed rest, "All paths lead to the same." She echoed, softly before retreating, trying not to stumble occasionally as she headed back to the dorms for much needed rest. She mentally apologized to the horsemen for having to depart. Hopefully, she could actually get some sleep; and not have to worry about nightmares this time.

When Olivia woke up, it was slow and groggy. Though her mind seemed a little calmer, less chattery, there was still a dull haze. Her body didn't want to get up, comfortable still on the ground. The pale ghoul managed to lift her head ever so slightly, realizing she had had her head resting on someone's leg. And this leg belonged to Amarus.

"Oh," she realized, her tone happy yet filled with sleep. Had they been together this whole time? During her mindless march she had no idea where the others were nor really who really was around her, so if they had remained a group during the whole walk back she wouldn't have known; but the thought that it was possible still pleased her in the least. They hadn't been separated.

Another thing she realized was that they had all been herded into a strange unfamiliar room. Not being a student of the school, Olivia wasn't really sure exactly where they were but from the structure, she could fathom a guess maybe if she wanted to continue thinking about; which she didn't.

Olivia pushed herself up, giving a tired smile to Faustus, Amarus and even new friend Mea. A small nod being her greeting as she waited for her head to stop swimming. She blinked slowly, barely regarding the conversations going on around her as well as the Bogeymen lurking about and speaking to Medea. The only bits and pieces she managed to catch were about a reserve and that they were going to be on the move again. Olivia wasn't sure how much she liked that idea but she went along anyways, taking her time with standing up and finally getting a good look at herself; kind of.

Her black dress was just a mess, she had wanted to look her best returning home and now that was just ripped to shreds. There were a few ruffles left but they were hanging by threads or burnt, along with her patches of her pale skin - which was unsettling. Olivia sighed heavily, still willing her eyelids from feeling so heavy. Her feet felt like lead weights as well, marching towards the new grounds that the Horsemen were going to be given. The ghoul leaned in close to her little group, for the sense of wanted security that she craved and just to help her stay steady as they continued along to the ceremony.

Olivia remained silent during the whole exchange, glancing about at the gathered assembly and how many of the clansmen were still left. Lost Clan, it was sadly fitting for those that remained. The Heir's with the new roles and the determination in Death's voice to keep going and renew. It stirred up unpleasant thoughts to the ghoul, the whole lose of those islands and culture she wanted to explore further. Explore the islands after the initial classes would have been so wonderful, but now it wasn't possible now. But they still had hope, she had heard it. Perhaps she would be able to learn from the remaining clansmen.

Though, she wasn't a student here. Yet. Yet could still be so far away, or never come. Olivia's shoulders slumped when the realization came to her. She was going to have to say goodbye soon and return home. The wight slowly turned to face her new found friends, her eyes downcast and her expression a frown, "um...." and unsure of really what to say to them. Goodbyes were difficult. Perhaps they could have a wonderful last big group hug? Olivia's lower lip trembled as she lurched forward, her arms wrapping around Amarus and Faustus first and foremost, with the hope that Mea had managed to get caught in her grip. She didn't know the ghoul well enough, but she had been apart of their group in the end. But Faustus and Amarus, they were her first friends and they had been so wonderful and she was going to dearly miss them.

And would she be able to say farewell to Willow as well?

Fallow wasn't sure how long he'd been out, only that when he woke up, he was surrounded by warmth. It took him only moments to realize that his herd had somehow found him instead of the other way around. His lips curled upwards, the ghost of a smile maybe. But then there was sound again, brimming in the hollows of his ear. Soundsoundsound. Oh, Fallow thought as his head began to clear away the fog, oh it is voices. He did not move, only listened as Medea began to speak herself, a voice that stood out amongst the rest. Slowly, painfully, he moved to stand, his bones aching and his muscles protesting to the thought of getting up. His tail flickered from side to side, pulsing limply with light. One by one, the students were being led - led where? - right, the reserve.

Fallow hummed softly under his breath, a sound foreign to his lips. Leaning over, he tapped both Dev and Mea on the shoulders. "Wake up," he murmured softly, "wake up, please."

The PĂșca followed the crowd in silence, his eyes scanning the crowd full of faces he was sure he recognized to some degree. Recognized, but little more. They'd been here, done this all before. He remembered the walk from the gymnasium at the beginning of the two weeks. The excitement bubbling in everyone's chest as they finally made it the Four Clan Isles. Now they seemed to all move with a somber silence. There was no buzz of electric excitement in the air, no contagious nervousness anymore. Fallow hummed softly and under his breath -- how could so much change in just two weeks?

When they arrived at the reserve, Fallow had little energy left to feel a rise of somberness, and instead only stared on in silence as the horseman spoke, told them of what was to come. The Lost Clan, they would be known as now. People carrying a legacy of a place that had been destroyed only a few days ago. The PĂșca remained silent as the speech - ceremony - continued on, his ears folded forward in attention, his eyes half-lidded and filled with both an attentiveness and an exhaustion that was not just from lack of sleep.

When it was finally over, the stallion moved back, turning to Mea and Dev and wordlessly. This was goodbye, wasn't it? Rumbling softly, he hugged them both, whispering promises of texts and calls in both of their ears. He felt like he was separate from the world, watching it from beyond a fog-coated mirror. Unable to feel. Unable to involve himself. There was a belly-deep ache in him, but it was dull; a wound that was somewhere between being fresh and becoming a scar.

Rumbling softly, Fallow stepped away, turning for one final look at the new reserve and the new clan. And then he stepped away, and closed his eyes.

It was time to go home.
