Ice Road Runner

She was in, deeper in, and at the moment she saw a flag she also felt her health start to fail. With a whine and a burst of speed unlike what she'd been showing before Chuppi jumped at the flag, grabbing it with her claws before she completely dissipated. Dying didn't even bother her anymore since she always knew she'd come back, and since this was mostly self-inflicted she could deal and live with the troubles.

The amount of flags she had gotten was next to nothing and Chuppi was ashamed, yet in the end she'd done her best? Four flags was nothing to feel too bad about so long as she kept her mouth closed, right? Everyone else would just be so happy they got things done, right?

Mort knew where the tent was, so it didn't take him long to be on the road over. His lepus guide, who had stayed on the pier because screw going in the water man, had welcomed the zomboil with a surprising amount of affection. "Did you know I always wanted to see the undead walk underwater?" it said from his backpack as he walked, keeping safe within from the hail and snow. "It's like a movie I saw with pirate gold and curses."

Despite his earlier intent to eat the guide upon completion of the trial, in the midst of his basking of self-accomplishment Mort didn't seem to mind it so much. He let the thing chatter its head off all the walk back, shivering from the cold and wet weather.

By the time he slid through the tent flap, Mort had attained a new shade of dark blue all over. His clothes were damp, the flags and fish were almost frozen to his arms, and he was shaking all over. But there was a bright grin on the zomboil's face as he stepped in, regardless of the emotional or physical states of his teammates. "B-B-B-Brought-t t-t-treatssss," he said through the shivering, indicating his right arm which bore the load of five fish he'd fried during the underwater course. "I-If w-w-want . . ."

Taryn waited... and waited. It didn't seem as if her team was returning to the starting point. She took no offense. Even if they had succeeded, the infirmary had been their meeting point since the first trial. She could always walk back. Hefting her flags with her, the ghoul entered the tent... and immediately let them clatter to the ground.

"Yin!" A month ago, she hadn't even known the boil's name. Now it pained her to see him this way. Her brow furrowed, she rushed in but lingered back far enough for the medical staff to do their jobs. What in the world had happened to him, especially that he'd survived? She looked to Alex, then to Mort, and smiled sadly. What was she supposed to feel just now? Mort was laden with flags, but... the weremantis!

"Did you know that that probably hurts real bad?"

The small visits soon had him on the mend, but there was still a long way to go. He also knew better than to try to push his body farther than it could go so soon after an injury so he simply lay there, not really trying to move, but his eyes began to roam about. Alexander looked worried, which was not an expression that he liked on the zomboil.

Yin tightened his grip, it was a rather feeble attempt but at least there was some pressure behind it as he managed to speak, voice with an odd burble to it from the blood that had seeped into his lungs that was still trying to be cleared. "At least you made through this course okay? Did you not? So you should be smiling again." That was the nice thing about dissipation, boilfriends could not tell that one had been injured. At least, not in his current state.

It was rather upsetting to hear their captain calling out his name. He would be just fine, and if anyone had to be injured at least it was him. Instead he decided on other things. He had not seen Mademoiselle Temes from where he lay on his cot, but Mort had brought treats. Fish. "You should go partake of Mort's treat with the rest of the team," he said, hoping that maybe the zomboil would cheer up a bit, and slightly worried about him now that he realized how warm it was by his cot.

The light pressure of the small squeeze to his hand did bring the smallest hint of a smile to Alex's face, though his eyes probably still looked very concerned and serious for once. Yin was assuming Alex had made it through his course okay, which wasn't at all true. He'd failed so badly this time that he'd actually dissipated, but...Yin didn't need to know that right now. He was going through enough already. So instead, he put on a bigger (and probably even faker looking) smile. "Ya, I'm feeling much better now." There, at least he didn't lie.

The sound of his other team mates arriving had Alex glancing behind him to where they were entering the tent. Both Mort and Taryn looked to have done well on their trials, both in one piece, both carrying four flags each. He didn't stare at them long though, because he only really cared about Yin, and how much longer he had to lay there, broken and bloodied and not sounding well at all. He turned his attention back to him. "It's fine, I don't need anything. And I'm just fine right here." He said, not wanting to leave, no matter how hungry he was feeling at the moment. That could all wait until later.

The ghoul's brows furrowed. Alright, so Alex and Yin were having a moment, and it appeared that the others were intruding. She smiled softly then and turned to Mort... aw, man, he'd done another terrifying trial. She retrieved an emergency blanket from a nearby stand and wrapped it around him, smiling at the fish.

"How... how did you cook them...?"

"L-Light-t-tning," Mort answered cheerily, not even seeming to care that for the most part Alex and Yin were once again entombed within themselves. Why? Because he'd finished a course and faced his worst fear and came out on top, bitches. Something as simple as not taking his offer of a treat was not going to put it down. Hell, he even tossed two their way regardless; hopefully one of them still had good reflexes. Taryn's blanket stayed on him, as he remained a bit hunched over to keep it so with his arms busy.

"S-Still, ah, k-k-kinda c-cold from snow. C-Can use f-f-f-fire i-if want." He offered Taryn hers before moving away from the entrance of the tent, by Chuppi, to give her her fish as well. "S-S-Saved princessssses! M'p-proud've self."

"Oh...thank you." Chuppi was slow and careful to speak in the English, her words stressed as she watched Mort come over. Since starting the whole trials this was her first time really talking to anyone, having been left alone at the start of the second day, and she humbly took the fish that was offered and sunk her fangs into it.

It was...so good, to eat the blood again. She could always eat blood at Halloween but this was different, this felt so much better. It took all her effort to stave away the tears that threatened her cheeks and face, and as she sucked away the tasty lifeblood of the cooked fish she couldn't help but smile at her two friends. Taryn and Mort were there, she was happy. In the back Yin and Alex were together, likely something about loving one another (Chuppi was so vague on love it was painful), and she tossed aside the husk of a fish once she was done.

"I have only to be getting four flags total. I wish I could have helped more, I am so very sorry I was not useful this time around too."
