Wearily, Emerwyn's head raised up from the water. While the man was still bore a disturbing presence, she was too sick and tired to feel intimidated. "I'm sorry," she said softly. "But, it certainly seems that there is enough water to go around." There was no cynicism in her voice. Emerwyn didn't quite know how to be cynical.

Billy gave an intoxicated sneer, still propped up against the rocks as he weakly and numbly hurled the half eaten fish carcass in the deer's direction, "Leave... me alone! I'm done!"

Emerwyn sat up fully just in time for the fish to flop pathetically across her lap before plopping into the water. She simply sighed at the poor creature - the one who threw the fish - and thought. Billy seemed subdued today; of course, he still bore that air of being angry at the world and all in it for crimes they didn't commit. And Emerwyn was not in the mood to defend herself.
"I've done nothing to you. I would simply like to sit and enjoy the lake for as much as I've got the right to. Not even the Almighty Doctors can take this away from me; not today." Emerwyn was not moving any time soon. "I am so sorry that fate has caused our paths to cross again, but I assure you, I do not enjoy your company all that much either." Perhaps she did have a little bit of it in her. "But, whatever the world has done to you has nothing to do with me. As long as we have that understanding, we can both move on." All of this was said, in a calm, matter-of-fact sort of manner, Emerwyn's forehooves placed lightly on her knees, her head tilted gently to one side.

Her calm demenor seemed to bother him further and he shifted, loosing his balance tosplash onto his side in his shallow pool, obviously intoxicated. "FINE s'all FINE t'bloody... bloody hate me! Go ahead! E'eryone does! S'wha'... wha' th'*cool* kids are doin'!" Hate him and use him and hate him because he's used and hate him becuase of what they decided he'd done and hate him because he was a miserable waste of life. Pretend to love him and then set him up and drag him down. His tentacle hands rose to cover his face, trying to muffle his sudden sob. Not in front of anyone. Keep it in. The extra limbs from his chest worked to try to pry the pill bottle open once more, "Jes'... jes' feckin' leave me alone!"

Now Emerwyn's emotions were struck. She had always pitied the man since she'd first met him, but now... now she felt pure sympathy. "Billy..." She didn't know just what to say, watching him in the water, completely without hope. Who did he have? "Look at me. I do not hate you. But... you pushed me away. So, I neither gained reason to hate or like you." She stood up and walked closer to him. "Do you want to start again?" Maybe, in his quieter mood, he would also be a little bit more calm.

He finally managed to get the bottle open, altered, inhuman violet eyes lowered to the pills inside the plastic container, his voice low and sluggish again, "I din' want t'kill him. I din' want t'do it." That's how all this mess had started, wasn't it?

Emerwyn knelt down slowly. Her facial expression remained stolid. Kill him? What was she supposed to say to this? Nothing. There was nothing. So, Emerwyn sat by him, watching him. Fear took the back stage again. He could say what he had to say. She would wait.

"I jes'... I jes'... though' she... she really loved me, y'know?" His voice broke, uncharacteristically soft and mournfull, " I ne'er go' good luck wit' women. Ne'er. Jes' me curse," He shook his head, still clutching the bottle like a lifeline as he wrapped his still human shaped arms around himself. "I was jes' fine untill she came along wit... wit her ideas an'.... an' her bloody legs tha' went fer miles..."

Love seemed to run everything. Behind all good times and all terrible events, love was there. Love brought life to the world, and took it away. Did she make him do it? Emerwyn looked on, her eyes sad.

Not impended, Billy continued, as though he had been secretly dying to scream this story out, but had never had the resolve untill now. Sleeping on a rock for days and the vicodin might have been what he needed to loosen his tongue. "Edel..." He supressed another sob, his brows furrowing as he pursed his lips, drawing in a deep breath through his nose. His nervious tick broke him out of it, a sniff and a twitch and he was shaking his head. "She said... she said it had to... said she's split th'money wit me... bu' it wasn' th'money... it wasn'... I woul' ha'... I woul' ha' done..." He fell silent, stuck in his own terrible memory.

Emerwyn tried to put the pieces together as to what he was saying in her head. She did not think it wise to interrupt. Perhaps they were stealing from someone...
But, when he stopped, she spoke, "You would have done things differently?"

"If... if I had known she'd blow th'whistle on me? Stab me in th'back like?" His tentacles curled, shaking with anger, "Standin' there, th'perfect victem wit' me covered in her damn father's blood. I'm stupid, bloody STUPID!"

Emerwyn's mouth hung slightly open. She'd forgotten to close it again as the story unfolded, leaving her dumbstruck. She still could not imagine what lay beneath all of this, but some things were plain to see. She was not sure whether to be frightened, or to only sympathize with him more. Love can make one do things they never dreamed of doing. Things both beautiful and horrendous.

"I'm no' a bad guy, really... I like t'fight, aye... bu' jes' in good fun..." He shook his head again, spilling out a couple pills onto a tentacle hand. He screwed the cap back on as he shifted to lay down, curled in a fetal position. "I ne'er woul' ha' done tha'. I'm a bad man, aye... I'll admit. Fine. Bloody... bloody fantastic. Bu' I'm no'... bad bad... Bu' she... she go' under me skin. She was... too good t'be true..." He sniffed again, using a knot of tentacles to keep his head out of the water.

Emerwyn battled with herself inwardly over the compulsion to reach out a hand to him. To offer, a hand on the shoulder, something. But, nothing seemed appropriate. Silence. Only the sound of open ears.
