Danny giggled as Rikki rolled off the bed. She couldn't help it. He was so desperate to stay asleep! It was funny. Really funny.
Forgetting her ... situation, Danny began to sit up to look at him, when she was knocked back down. It definitely didn't hurt as much as last night, but the soreness was still there, making her hiss and flop back down onto the bed. Well great.
"That's no fair," she said quietly, still half-asleep, "I can't get up and ..." And what? Convince him to get ready? Hug him? Thank him for being there? This was getting awkward, and Danny wasn't really sure how to handle the situation. "Rikki?" was all she said.

He wiggled uncomfortably, but when she called out his name his head slowly peeked over the side of the bed. The grim did not look amused. "If you can't get up I'm not going to school." Not that he would have gone otherwise, but at least Danny's wings were a convenient excuse. "How bad is the pain?"

Danny wiggled to test herself, and hissed with the soreness of her wings. At least they only hurt when she moved them now, not rippling pain like the night before that spiked at random. It was more like having a really bad bruise now.
She could at least look at him straight. That was a plus. "Not ... as much as last night," she said, "Still hurts when I move, but lots better." Eloquently said. "No more fuzzy shapes!" she finished positively.
Biting her lip, she added, "You really need to go. I don't want you getting detention! ... and stuff!"

No fuzzy shapes. That was probably good. He watched her face for a moment to see if he could tell whether she lying or not. He didn't see any betraying winces or fake smiles, but he still wasn't sure how far he trusted her not to stretch the truth.
"Detentions not so bad, once you get past the laundry and the living machines. The gnomes suck though." He shrugged. Leave it to Rikki to hate the gnomes more than he hated the things that had attacked him. He'd been given detention after a truth or dare game that he'd hardly participated in. That was probably the worst thing about it.

As if Danny could actually lie about something so simple. She was a horrible liar after all.
With Rikki there rambling about detention and how much it sucked, Danny was having a really hard time focusing. She was being distracted by the way he tilted his head ever so slightly, the way his hair fell JUST to his shoulders, but only touched it, didn't go past. His toned arms, with their odd, ever changing markings. The way his orange eyes darted ever so slightly on top of his deep black sclera. It was all distracting, intoxicating.
Oh s**t he was done talking wasn't he. He was waiting for a response. UHHHH. Impulsively, Danny reached out a hand awkwardly and let it fall through a strand of his hair. Apprehensively, she said, "Rikki?" It was hesitant, afraid. Love was odd.

Nyyrikki didn't even pause to consider it as he tilted his head into the feel of her fingers running through his hair, but he froze at the tone of her voice. Hesitant and afraid.
Vulnerable.
He pulled himself onto the bed and hovered over her. He gave her that small bit of space for only a moment before he brushed his lips across hers. The touch was soft and quick, fleeting, as he pulled back. He knew Danny, knew she was probably struggling to comprehend what was going on, and he'd watch a cheesy gooey romance before he'd force anything she didn't want on her - or, rather, anything she didn't know she wanted.
And he would never watch a cheesy gooey romance.

Danny smiled as he pulled himself closer- she couldn't help it. It was just a feeling. Not an intended one, not one with an ulterior motive. The smile just creeped onto her face when he was near, even more so when he was so closer. It was that reaper heater feeling, making her face warm again.
Any other ghoul would've seen it coming. Seriously. ANY other ghoul would've. Especially after last night (though, to be fair, Danny couldn't remember any of last night after asking to hold his hand. Everything had blurred at that point).
Not Danny though. Her eyes went wide as he leaned in and ... yeah no, he definitely kissed her. Her mind, of all things, replayed Nahm doing the same to her not so long ago. As he backed up, giving her room to look in his squinted, pretty eyes with her wide, terrified eyes, she blurted, "R-Rikki. I mean I know you probably think that's the sugar thing and that its good, but Nahm told me it's like a sign of love or something or I don't even-" She was really just spouting now, more to cover her shock than anything else. It probably wasn't the picturesque kiss Rikki was looking for.

His expression shuttered in a way that was probably annoyingly similar to his father and he pressed his lips together. Nahm? She thought of Nahm when he kissed her? What even... That boil really needed a swift kick in the head. And his gut. and other areas. And then they needed to sit down and have a talk about why a monster who looked like he found his outfit in a dumpster had more swagger than he did.
"You've been talking to Nahm about kissing? Why?" He tried to sound reasonable and curious, but he couldn't help grinding his teeth a little.

Her expression was still flustered and red as she stared at Rikki hovering above her with that angry look on his face. Well ... perhaps angry wasn't the right word. Danny wasn't really sure what to call the look. Without even thinking, her hands snaked around both arms that were adjacent to her head, anchoring herself as she hissed through the pain of turning herself up to face him. Sweet Sally this hurt like a witch.
Feeling his body against hers was worth it though. She closed her eyes waiting for the swimming to stop, and then opened them slowly. Once better situated to face him, she said, "I was ... Oh! I went to his dorm to give him a rabo, like Lancelot?" She gave him a questioning look then continued, "He ... we were talking about ... the movie. The one where the guy says Gimme some sugar baby~" She wiggled her head playfully, imitating the actor.
Sighing, she adjusted herself, and continued, "Then ... Nahm explained what that really meant." Her eyes were downcast and she was biting her lip, clearly embarrassed. After all, she hadn't ... expected to be kissed by Nahm. He just sort of did it. She left it vague, though not purposely. She didn't think there was more detail needed. Rikki would undoubtedly interpret it the wrong way.

Oh, he remembered that movie. Why had he ever encouraged her to interact with Nahm? He was an idiot. And he would have been inclined to think that all Nahm had done was explain things, except she went and bit her lip like she'd done something wrong.
He hissed out a breath and stood suddenly, pushing his hand through his hair like it was an addiction. Jack, what if she liked Nahm more than she liked him? He'd kissed her like it was what she wanted, and she'd clearly just turned him down because of the monster. He rubbed his eyes hard with his thumb and index and planted a hand on his hip. He wasn't going to give up now that he knew how much he liked Danny, but he was kind of pissed that he'd just made a fool of himself.
... Jackdammit. "Ah," he sighed and turned, heading for the door, "I've got to go. My parents are probably expecting to get Espoo back, and detention, and... yeah."

Danny had just started successfully wrapping her hands around his waist when he stood up and stared at her wistfully. She didn't think much of it, after all, they played this cat and mouse game quite frequently, and she was getting used to it. She smiled sweetly, glad that he seemed to accept her answer. All of his frustration was completely missed in her blissful stupor.
As he explained his exit, Danny nodded, if not a bit upset. It made sense though, he had slept over and stayed way too long, and now it was time to go home. That was how these things worked, right?
She noticed his tangled shirt and jacket still lying on the bed and laughed. "You might want these!" She reached over to grab the shirt, and then arched herself, still sitting, to throw it in his direction. She bit her lip to hide a scream from how painful it was, but she didn't want to alarm him further. He already looked incredibly tired, and she figured it was best if he left as soon as possible.

Was he really about to walk out of the room bare-chested? Not that he couldn't have rocked it, but that just went to show for his frazzled thinking. She was really jacking with his mind, this tomboy demoness with her innocent smiles. When had he ever felt this whirlwinded around a chick? Never.
"Ah, yeah." He only got close enough to grab the shirt and jacket, tugging them on as he left the room. He only spared a single look back, just before he shut the door and booked it the hell out of dodge and back to his horse.

Danny smiled wistfully, a tad sad because he had to leave, but somewhat understanding that their "sleepover" was done. She flopped back down on her pillow (rather slowly, s**t hurt after all) and threw her arms underneath it. One hand snaked slowly to where Rikki had been laying no more than a few minutes ago. She reached out to touch an invisible face, only to realize how stupid she looked. Danny would never admit to giggling to herself like an idiot after that, until she eventually fell asleep.
---
Morning arrived the next day. Somewhere on the floor above her, another Fitzgerald was writhing from a different kind of agony. Though his exterior revealed a calm and collected male profile of extreme prestige, his internal monologue was going crazy. Oersted had one of those minds that just replayed things over and over, rethought thoughts until every aspect was analyzed and conquered, or beaten into such a dull pulp that it wasn't even worth thinking about anymore.
He sat down at his desk, straightening his chair and re-straightening the name plate on his desk. Order was what defined him, and this Rikki boil had thrown his order completely out of whack. The boil's eyes flitting nervously, his quick, rude tones. His hands- his rotting, putrid, lowly, stained hands. The way they just wrapped themselves around Danny. The worst part was that sickening look he gave her when she was twitching in her bed.
Legitimate care. The boil was serious. A fist slammed down on his desk, leaving small, ashen cracks in the stonework. It was by pure luck that the screen top was missed by a fraction of an inch.
Oersted stood up abruptly and began pacing the room, his shiny shoes tapping on the floors. He could go down and burn the boil to bits in a matter of moments, but that would just make Danny upset. Why did he even jacking care? This was his little sister, not his wife. Then again, it was his little sister. He couldn't be a respectable older brother watching her get touched by that ... thing.
The Syynka family wasn't unknown to him. In fact, Oersted recalled seeing one of them at a large social gathering at some point. He had a memory for that sort of thing- networking was the key to any big contracting business after all.
He found himself starting to snarl, and he quickly reapplied his businessman sheen. In the way that the boil so often did, Oersted ran a hand through his hair, mindful of the giant horns on either side. Readjusting suit tie, he decided to head downstairs.
---
Where he found Danny sleeping on the bed with that stupid, happy look on her face, breathing softly into the pillow. The sheets were a mess, her leg sticking out of one end. Oersted had no doubt what exactly had occurred the night before. Obviously the boil just wouldn't admit it to him, perhaps undergoing that sort of strange shame most teenagers went.
Come to think of it, where was the boil? He seemed to have disappeared from the room. So he just did the deed and ran. Even if they had actually ... done that, it still meant that Rikki had spent the night with her and ran; at least in Oersted's eyes it did. If it was possible, Oersted liked this boil less and less with each passing second.
For a moment, the demon hesitated, searching the room for some sort of hidden camera. Obviously finding none, he knelt down beside the bed. Watching his sister might have been creepy, but he reassured himself with the excuse that he was making sure she hadn't died in her sleep from FEAR poisoning ... or something.
He really wished he would've just told the reaper boil to shove it and go home. Carefully, he examined the wings, not moving them, simply looking at them. It seemed as though the spikes were done, and by the way Danny was sleeping, he assumed she was through the worst of it. Was he a tad proud of her? Maybe, but he would certainly never show it. Coughing, he stood up and resumed his stony cold personality as if the previous moment hadn't occurred at all.
With a cough, he shook the ghoul awake.
---
Danny's eyes fluttered open briefly, and then she shut them again. "Five more miniffssss," she said, pressing her face into the pillow. Much to her dismay, the shaking grew more violent, making her squeak from the pain of moving her wings so much.
"Okay, okay!" she said grumpily. Now she knew why Roch and Rikki were always complaining. Sometimes you just needed to sleep.
Oersted cleared his throat, looking down at her with disgust. "It's time for you to return to your school," he said bluntly. Hell if Oersted knew which school she went to.
Danny sighed and tried to sit up. She made it eventually, albeit slowly. Oersted sneered at her the entire time. "How weak," was all he commented. Danny just hung her head in embarrassment, the usually treatment for such situations. The fire demonness trudged to the bathroom to prepare herself for the day, while Oersted sat in the large armchair to the side of the room. He made it look like a jackdamn throne.
Looking around, now fully aware of the situation, Danny's eyes bulged a bit wider since she didn't find her reaper companion with her. "Where did he-" she began, then remembered what had happened, "Oh right, he went home yesterday..." She smiled to herself secretly, which of course Oersted had to interrupt.
"You'll leave immediately. Your things are already packed and placed in the car with Perkins," he said brusquely, pointing to the door.
Awkwardly, Danny nodded and said, "Uhh ... well ... thank you for the ... stuff." What exactly did Oersted do anyways? He just sort of sat in his office the entire time. Oersted seemed to come to the same sort of awkward agreement, and didn't even look at her to acknowledge her gratitude.
Danny began walking towards the door, oohing and ahhing with the bruised soreness of FEAR overload. Oersted didn't make a move to help her, nor did he offer words of encouragement. He actually walked ahead of her and took the elevator before her. She struggled the entire way downstairs herself.
When she finally did reach the bottom, Oersted was waiting near the entrance, the same judgmental look on his face remaining steadfast as ever. It just screamed "why didn't you make it down here faster?" Danny tried to ignore it, but the stare got to her.
Awkwardly, Danny stuck out a hand for shaking, not really sure how to treat the situation. A few people looked at her oddly, others looked at her like she was a tourist asking for his autograph. No one really seemed to understand this was his little sister- why would they? Not only did Danny look nothing like him, she also acted nothing like him, carried herself nothing like him- they were absolute opposites.
Oersted knocked her hand aside and said, "Danny don't be foolish." Danny immediately dropped her hand back to her side and stared at the ground, like a child being scolded. Oersted then said, "Yes well. That will be all." Then he left, like she was nothing at all. Unbeknownst to Danny, he ordered a few guards to watch her as she left, but nothing more. Oersted was already back to being his normal self, like the entire encounter had never happened.
Sighing, Danny walked herself (slowly) out the building, into her family's hearse.
---
The drive home was boring and uneventful. Danny had tried to play whimsically with Perkins, but her wings really prevented her from doing any moving. It was almost painful how unbearable it was to not be able to move in the care. All she could was fidget and talk, fidget and talk.
At first, Perkins asked her questions like "how was your week miss?" and "what did Oersted do?" but eventually that got boring too. She was much more satisfied to talk about the songs on the radio, the vampire cows on the side of the road, and how many blue hearses they could count.
Eventually- EVENTUALLY, they pulled up to the gates of Amityville.FINAL WC: 21,174 + Whatever Tri & DHS did xD
