********. Shehk's tail pricked up as her dress pretty much turned into a glowing mess. Wow. She was starting to feel like a ghost, actually.
This was what she got for wearing white. She now stuck out like a sore thumb.
Goodie.
===
"You really think so??"
Another squeal from Tomoko when Jove actually spoke up enough to comment on her dress, throwing her arms back around the ghost boil to hug him. She was practically shivering with excitement all over the place and her tails were wagging faster than they had in the past.
So.
Much.
Happiness. Tomoko really wasn't hard to please, was she? It became more and more obvious the more excited she got. She hadn't even had time to panic over leaving her ball of stars unattended! Oh no! She hadn't even commented on the fact he was blushing (had she noticed?), squeezing the boil again before pulling back and planting a kiss on his cheek.

Looking up as the music and lights began to dim, Shun soon realized that Mitsu had started to almost completely glow. With his hand on her shoulder, he could feel her tense and he could see it too. Glancing about, he saw Levi and other white things take on a very similar glow.
"Relax," he murmured, "It's just the lights."
He had seen blacklights being used before and it was really the only explanation he had that would be the cause of the sudden glowing.
"It won't hurt you."

"Oh--" Mentally face palming, she criticized herself for not catching on to that. "Well, he is small enough. Possibly with the right tools, he could easily be made a doll.." Her voice trailed off into thought. Bul may have been joking, but Mei..was probably joking..probably. All thoughts flew out the window as the snot monster held her with a tight hug. Laughing, she returned the hug, with less than half the strength he had. There was no way she could match up to that---not unless her creator built her differently.
Once released from his hold, she his acknowledged his hand with a light squeeze of hers, following after him as he lead her towards the crowd. "Okay!" Grinning at his words, she recalled the night of the Scarentine dance. Though this was a lot like that night, it felt different. Better in fact.
The lights dimmed, and the music ceased, and suddenly..she too was glowing? Or her dress was at least? Not just her, but others who wore white. "Odd.."

Ren gave Alessa a wide, innocent grin as if to say who, me? before he leaned over and pecked a kiss to her cheek. "You know I taught you well at that dance," he said with a teasing grin. "By the way, you look beautiful." This was added as Ren darted off to snag Jove, but he was momentarily stunted in his teasing of the little foxfire when the puppy was accosted by none other than Tomoko. While he'd never been actually formally introduced to the little kitsune, Ren was well aware of the friendship she had with his little brother. So when she held out a tiny hand to him, he accepted it with a wide smile, casting a curious glance back at Jove.
"A pleasure to finally meet you, Tomoko," he said with ease, then took a mildly startled step backwards when she flung herself at Jove, planting a peck on his cheek. It surprised him; Jove did not like physical affection, especially from ghouls, but he clamped his lips shut, instead offering the ghoul a small bow.
"Jove is right, you look beautiful," he told her, and smiled. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a flash of pale hair, and Ren lifted his hand in a small wave and a wink to Xiu, standing with a few others. He wondered where Vaith was, but his date certainly did look pretty. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Not many, I'm afraid," Sparrow said to Aislin, his tone slightly apologetic. "Unfortunately I'm still rather new here; I have not had a chance to meet many other students, other than the Open House." He gave a small shrug. "Even then it was a little too crowded and I was unable to really connect with anyone."
There was a small pause as Sparrow slid a sly glance towards his date. "And if I recall correctly, you were none too thrilled to find me, a reaper, mixed in with the ghosts you were speaking to," he said, but his tone was teasing.
He took a few steps forward, lifting his free hand to rest atop of Aislin's hand so that as he wove through the throngs of people they would not get separated. It was already beginning to get crowded, the lights growing dim, the room getting darker, the music fading to nothingness. Sparrow's slacks, normally a bright white, were now an eerie glow. It amused him, and he lifted his eyes to Aislin again.
"Have I told you that you look beautiful yet tonight?" he asked her rather conversationally.

"We match, yes!" She beamed at Xiu, glad that it was noticeable since she had made an effort to do so. She giggled at the camera in the ghoul's hand; ah, she had forgotten her own... She would just have to grab photos from Xiu later. Looking at Levi, she grinned, "Of course! I'm looking forward to it!"
And then he came.
"Hi Mac," She said, her grip tightening around Mot's arm as she shuffled closer to him. When the light dimmed, she felt rather relieved... And then people started to glow.
"... It's starting~"

The stage was still covered by a curtain, but it was clear that lights were starting to turn on behind it. Shadows lurked eerily behind the blood-colored fabric, hinting at something maddeningly vague.
A spotlight shown on the mindflayer that was standing on the stage - she made a face as the brightness burned her sensitive vision. With one hand, she covered her eyes - with the other, she held a useless microphone. She did so like to do things for their habitual value, in amusement. She held it up to her face, but as usual, everyone in the room simply heard her voice in their minds as a smooth, quiet, and foreboding murmur.Welcome, my fellow students, to the first ever Amityville Academy Prom. Please welcome your true host for this evening, the owner of this fine establishment. A round of screams if you will, for Oogie Boogie himself.
As the audience reacted, Riley slipped off, letting the curtain fall aside for the show to begin.

Christof had been quiet so far... not surprisingly, but this time it had little to do with a missing tongue. He huddled by his "date" with a similar look of anxiety as she mingled about, but at the sign of the dimming lights he glanced to Shehk with a look of terror, "Er... Mith Thehk?" He still felt odd with the pickled tongue hastily stitched in, but at least the seam was burning less than the last dance.
He had even tried to hasstily brush his teeth before rushing to retrieve his date. He felt bad for being so inattentive, but... he had his responsibilities.
"Jutht... er... Exthuthe me for er... jutht a little bit? I will be back, I thwear!" He hoped he didn't spray her too badly as he suddenly turned to push his way through the crowd and towards the door that lead Backstage.

Barth was not aware there would be an actual stage. With expectations and spotlights and so on. Not that he hadn't done it before. And he wasn't in the spotlight, anyway. He tapped the microphone clipped to his collar. It made a LOUD, STATICKY NOISE. The lights changed, throwing the stage into pitch black.
There had been something sentimental about all the rehearsing and stagework. Especially for this sort of reprisal roll. Someone had made sure there was a proper chair for him to relax in backstage this time, and his script was not a pulpy, watery mess.
Of course, for his initial performance, he didn't have Lilith in his lap. It made staying awake much easier. He smiled at her, softly clearing his throat, then began in a sinister voice,
"Hello all you snots and knobs, boils and ghouls alike."
So far so good.
"Come on in but do not touch the scenery, it bites."
By now he was getting slightly distracted with Lilith's neckline, but soldiered forward. He was finding that when you had someone in your lap and were making a villainous introduction, it was very hard not to make it to them.
"If you want trouble...you've got some. If you want a show, then welcome."
The spotlight came on.

Christof liked heights. He wasn't sure why. He liked being able to see into the far distance- his eyes liked focusing into infinity more than they liked trying to focus on text books, anyway. The lights below him shifted, black light making his tie glow like white neon. As Barth's voice boomed across the room... It was show time. He rushed halfway through the speech to give the cage filled with Band of Mice a sharp kick and a stern look, and the tiny hairy marching band suddenly broke into what they had been carefully trained to play, the tiny instruments' music sent booming over the loud speakers of the auditorium thanks to careful wiring and microphone replacement. He just hoped they didn't nibble through any cords. Next, came The Puppet. He had upgraded it since the Christmas Play, sometimes just out of fun and idle creativity over the school year, but a final swing had been made to at least make sure it was all one color, and a long series of wires and cords and careful placement of some of Barth's Labor Saving Devices retrofitted to his purposes, the meager hand puppet from the play had become an animatronic monstrosity, fully capable of swinging about the stage from his position in the Heavens. And then Barth sang. "Come and dance, there's games of chance, Your circumstance might change..."
Oogie strutted forward at a slow gate, glowering left and right across the stage. A motor and a twisting bent wire made his lips curl as the puppet spoke, and who knew how he managed the effects of the dice being tossed and caught in one burlap hand, "You're in a trance, and some romance will make the night turn...strange."
The monster spun, suddenly throwing the dice (it was better than water balloons?) at the audience, for whoever managed to snag them before Barth's baritone rumbled out with more fervor, "So cast the dice! This could roll nice! Or things could go asunder! Don't think twice, take my advice, Enjoy that spell you're under."
After a series of twirls, the puppet landed with a crouch on the edge of the stage, under-lit by the rows of light-bulbs. Christof readied the switch... "But if your roll turns sour within the final hour, And you feel you've lost your jive... "
It leaned forward as though addressing one of the ghouls closest to the stage, the puppet's mouth twisting (somehow) into a wicked grin as Christof flipped the switch to overload the power to the bulbs, causing them to pop, crackling across the stage with small bursts of electricity released. "Don't be glum my newest chum, You aren't getting out alive."
The lightbulbs spent, the lights on stage went out, and the puppet vanished.

There were several moment of complete, utter silence in the dark - not even the blacklights shone anymore.
Then, as someone flipped a switch, the blacklights returned, and the DJ Booth roared back to life, filling the room with sound once more.
Yet, you get the feeling Oogie Boogie's final warning wasn't just for show..
Posting is now open once more!~

And then along came a Mac.
Mot was about to greet the fellow reaper, but he seemed... unhappy, and Lizzy incredibly clingy. Mot looked down at his date as she clung to his arm, as if hiding from Mac. He frowned slightly, not sure what to do...
Then the lights went black.
Mot rested his hand on Lizzy's hand that was resting on his arm, or that is clutching his arm. To be reassuring if nothing else. He was there. That's what mattered.
The show was pretty amazing. Mot watched in awe... well, awe and then slightly disturbed..
Oogie Boogie's last words... Petro's warnings seemed to hit him just then. And Mac's warnings... about students dying a lot.. and battles...
Oh...Oh Jack..
The lights and music returned to normal, and Mot blinked a bit, looking around.

Flushed and jittery with nervous excitement, Emily bounced a bit on her feet as the entered. This was it. Prom. After constant failure since the start of the school year, it was time to do things right. Sure the threesome aspect had thrown her, and she'd nearly upset the balance of things with her assumptions, but she wasn't going to let that bring her down! Of course it had taken a couple hours of pep talks in front of a Hang in There Kitten poster to get to this point, but so far so good! Oddly enough, coming with two other people helped make her feel a bit more confident about going to prom. Like she was part of a date without the worry of being the...the focus of it. Of course, then Cady asked her what she wanted to do first, and a slight edge of panic made itself known. 'Um...ah...how about dri-" the witch cut that thought as soon as she remembered the Moonlit Masque. She cast a nervous glance at the refreshments and hoped they hadn't been modified. "OR....or we could um..." Fortunately she was saved from answering by the lights going down and the show starting. ... "O-oh!" She clapped enthusiastically at the finish and turned to her dates, "That was so neat!"

Interestingly enough as soon as Bul dragged Mei out onto the dance floor everything came to a stop and the room grew dark even his own stripes glowing ceased as if they too were excited for something. Inwardly the beast thanked them but would find that at the end of the performance they'd return full force.
He turned to Mei with raised brows. "s**t that was... interesting. You think they'll keep bringing that back through the night?" Bul was pretty impressed with how hard the committee obviously worked to make this thing perfect for all guests. In the end it was worth it and far more for buying tickets.
"Does'at mean there's gonna be gaming tonight??" Bul asked wide eyed. He hoped Mei would join him should that be the case. "Dancing AND gaming now that's the s**t!"

As the music came back on, Cady looked to the booth nervously. Wasn't this the same song they'd played as people walked in? She was pretty sure there was supposed to be some kind of change of music...right? She squinted as the lights came back on, and arrived at a horrifying realization.
Ash. Wasn't. There?
Oh, this wouldn't do. "SorryBERIGHTBACK-" Cady lurched toward the DJ booth, running awkwardly in her dress. She hoped she could remember what the buttons were for.

And theeeerrreee went her date! Shehk had been left by herself to watch the spectacle on stage, lips tightening a bit at the memory it stirred up. Oogie boogie. Yeah, that stage. Her dressed up in some pinstripes, Nuk in a patchworked dress (she probably would have laughed about it at this point) trying to make her fumble up and kiss him in stage...being assaulted by a water balloon in front of the entire school.
And making sure the entire school knew she could not sing worth a jacking s**t.
It was sort of a bittersweet memory. Oh self, you were so smart back then, telling him no. Then again.... he actually loved her back then. Her heart started doing that squishy-flippy thing and a look of actual and possibly physical pain came over her face.
She officially didn't like this room. This room that made her glow. She wiped a hand across her eyes, sniffled once, then told herself to suck it up. If nothing else, she'd be an easy-enough-to-find date with the blacklight making her glow... but Shehk made a point of trying to stay planted where she was.
Her own clapping was much less enthusiastic than the general consensus of the collective group. It wasn't that Barth and Christof had done a bad job together. It had nothing to do with that... but it had been painful for her. She didn't like any of this emotional pain. Why couldn't she just do as Sammy suggested and 'get over it'.
Then again, Sammy had been pushing her limits with the Pricolici a bit lately as well...
