Jason and Mist soon reached Dr. Shonevsky's place, and were surprised to see someone tied to the porch. On a closer inspection Jason saw that he wasn't tied with a rope, but an electrical cord. "Why don't you go and see if he's in," he said to Mist. The misdreavus floated through the door, searching the house for Ulysses. When she found him she floated up to him and then back towards the door, trying to get him to come to the front door. Meanwhile, Jason was just finishing his apple, and was still examining the man tied to the porch.

Before he could get an answer from the young Schraeder, however, Shonevsky was distracted by a misdreavus just floating right into his kitchen and back out. He raised the shotgun, eying it warily. With great caution he followed it to his front door, which he pulled open with a quick sweep so he could take the shotgun in both hands again. Outside was quite the sight- but today seemed to be full of that, and so the shock was minimal.

A young man was just staring at the stranger tied to his porch and downing what little remained of an apple. The misdreavus was at his side. Ulysses, tired of all these strangers throwing themselves at his doorstep and vying for his attention, decided to take things the quick route.

He pumped the shotgun, letting a perfectly usable shell fly, but that was a fact nearly impossible to discern. What was plain and obvious was Ulysses had no qualms with using his Mossburg which happened to be pointed at Jason. "Young man, you had best tell me who you are and what you want- and tell me honest- or I'm going to plug you and that trespassing little witch without so much as batting an eye. Choose your words very carefully."

"I'm sorry for sending her into your home like that," Jason said, turning to face Ulysses, "but I'm tired, and I don't think things through when I'm tired. I was woken this morning by a man that said his name was Dr Alex Terrian. He had some strange abilities, and he told me that I should come talk to you and help you escort two kids to Glenville." As Jason was talking Mist was spinning around the two of them, grinning. "Mist! Stop that!" The misdreavus stopped spinning, and stuck her tongue out at Jason. Sighing, he looked back at Ulysses. "Anyway, do you want my help?"

Maddy had been a fairly awkward host since Roger had let the boy in a few hours before, it was shopping day so the fridge was barren except for a few bottles of water and a pack of batteries. After moving the rear axle that occupied it, she offered the couch to him, and then they sat in awkward silence. Eventually the phone rang, Maddy nearly broke the chair she was sitting on in surprise. In three years that phone had rung five times, two telemarketers and a wrong number made up most of them; it took forever to figure out what the number was, and then she had only given it to a few of her best customers.

She had heard of the oaks in Glenville, but half buried in the clutches of the higher powers there, she'd never gotten the chance to meet them. This Ulysses character either, the name wasn't completely unfamiliar but she knew nothing about him. The call was rushed and mostly one way, in about two minutes Maddy hung up and turned a worried eye to her guest.

"So, ever seen Glenville?" she asked, not noticing the implication

The only thing that really worried her about all this was the raids, any other day Glenville was a nice scenic ride up the rails but if there were armed forces in retreat... she picked up the phone again and started dialing.

"I got a feeling this is bigger than just us, and when you need something defended" she trailed off. The line rang twice then a soft click and silence. "Hey Paul, are you by any chance having a strange morning too?"

"Ah, well," Paul started. She wanted to go off on her own. She might be willing to walk, but the time constraint seemed unreasonable, and he wasn't sending her off on one of his bikes, not alone, certainly. "I'm heading that way shortly, anyway, so it'd be better if we both went." Plus it was a bit dangerous to send a young woman alone with... well, she was carrying a knife and wearing light armor. It might keep her safe against a blade or a pokemon or two, but chances were good she'd get killed by something along the way.

"Also -" Paul began, but was interrupted by the ringing of the phone. He frowned. "A moment," he told her, dodging into the kitchen and grabbing the phone. As he did so, the smell of the sausage caught his nose, and he paused before announcing himself. During this pause, a familiar female voice came across the line. An odd question, but somewhat poignant.

"Well, I've had an odd call and an odd visitor, but other than that, it's normal. What's up for you?" As he spoke, he leaned back out the door, waving Alyssa into the kitchen as Zoidberg set out the bits of breakfast.

[[...bzzt...Houston, we have an incoming wall of text... over....bzzt...]]

The phone started ringing not long after the two Hale ‘kids’ headed off to bed, much to their displeasure. The first one was not for either of them. It was Mrs. Hale’s boss, one of the town leaders, which had just gotten out of a meeting with the head powers of the town, and was in a suitably bossy and pissed-off mood. There was going to be hell to pay for the attack, and they needed her to…well, things just ran smoother when the secretaries were around, even if they were underslept. And things needed to run smooth today, because Woodmount residents had died last night. Of course, Mrs. Hale wasn’t the one sleeping next to the phone when it rang. That was Mr. Hale.

It was maybe a half-hour after Mr. Hale had fallen asleep again that the phone rang for the second time. This time, it was for Lexi’s sister, who worked at the food storehouses. All those soldiers heading out to defend the town’s honor needed provisions, of course. Miss Hale’s boss wasn’t any happier than Mrs. Hale’s boss. Any other time, Mr. Hale would have given the man a break, considering it wasn’t easy to have a whole army at your back door demanding food, but right now all the man’s voice did was make Casey’s headache bigger.

The third time, Mr. Hale actually managed a whole hour before the phone disturbed his sleep, but this time felt even worse than the first two times he was awoken. He took it out on whoever was on the other end of the line. “All right, What now? Lisa probably just got out the door, so if she’s not there, wait five minutes…” He had no idea that it had been an hour since his elder daughter left, or that this call was of an entirely different nature than the first two…well, sort of. The voice on the other end of the phone tried to straighten the later misunderstanding out. “Wait, Lexi? Ugh, she’s gonna love this…all right, where’s she assigned this time around?” The man on the other end of the line told him. “What?! Glenville?! Who are you?!” This was also explained to Casey. He knew those names well enough, and he sat down on the floor quickly, surprised, but still wary. “And you want my daughter to go to Glenville why?” More conversation. He stared at the wall, stunned. “Doctor, that’s a long way, and as you just said, there were attacks on three of the towns last night. Around here, that means there’s gonna be war. They won’t figure out that they’re not alone until they overrun someone else and force it out…heck they still might not believe it.” He was pacing now, thinking rapidly. Trying to balance the chance of a lifetime for his daughter with her safety for the second time in six hours. It was all he could do not to just call bullshit at the idea that a dead woman, no matter how intelligent or prominent (yes, he knew of Beatrice Oak, and figured there would be no other long-dead woman those two would refer to), could know about his daughter. It was then he actually saw the doorway to his bedroom, and his younger daughter standing in it. ‘How long have you been standing there?’ he mouthed. ‘Since I heard my name.’ Lexi replied, shrugging. He knew she had heard what was going on…it would have been kind of hard not to. ‘So?’ But his question was almost rhetorical. She wanted to go, see what this was all about, he knew. He wanted to know too really, but he had a few more years of experience on him, and definitely was nowhere near as anxious to travel to Glenville. “All right Dr. Oak, we’ll see what we can manage.” He knew he didn’t fit the Doc’s bill of having powerful pokémon…he did at one time, but what remained of his team had died in the Cataclysm. But he probably could catch a new team. No way had he lost his talent as a trainer after just a few years off.

For a while, it was just a matter of packing. The two got dressed for a long day. Lexi’s computer, charging cord, and a long-range antenna Lexi had been experimenting with went in a well-worn sack, along with food, a few layers in case the day changed, and a blanket and change of clothes in case today flowed into tomorrow. Casey also went digging, coming up with an old leather jacket that looked a bit better padded than most, and was a few sizes too small for him. “When I was your size, I had the idea I could do stupid stuff with my pidgeotto. I needed something besides my skin for his talons to dig into.” But then the phone rang again, and he ran off, leaving her to try the brown jacket on alone. It was just a little big, but it probably fit too well going by the look on her dad’s face when he came back. She knew from the look, he had been called out to work this time. She didn’t know what he was doing, but he wasn’t going to be able to head her way. He handed her some of what passed for money in this town. “Lexi, I want you to head down to the gun shop. Not to buy a gun… if you wanted it, you could just take mine… but to find something that could protect you from one, at least a little. With any luck, maybe you’ll find that Dirk Tavish down there…the Oaks said he might be heading their way too. If you don’t find him, or he’s not headed for Glenville, just come back, we can go when this settles down. That would probably be best overall, but the Oaks, for whatever reason, had said they needed her now. He hoped they knew what they were asking.

Once Lexi got suited up in her motorcycle gear, she couldn’t help making a damp spot on her dad’s shirt before she left, hugging him with all her arms could manage. She wanted this, she wanted out of this town so badly, to live the life of her dad’s era of trainers, but this wasn’t that, this was a run against the warmongers. It was only a short distance, but every mile was a risk. All for the possibility that she might save the world, and who knows why she could do it when no one else could. Damnit, she hated the way this world had gotten twisted. “If I leave Dad, I promise I’ll do everything I can to come back, seriously.” He smiled as best he could “I know you will.”

Traipsing around the gun store was not Lexi’s idea of a good time, and all the men ramped up to go take on Riverdale couldn’t help but push around the girl who had no business hanging out in there. Luckily, by this point in her life, she was used to it, big time, and just kept her eyes down and let it happen, hoping to find either of the things she was looking for soon. She was going to be so glad to be back on her bike, headed one way or the other.

[[Yeah, I had way too much fun keeping Casey up all night morning...actually had way too much fun writing this in general, hence all those leters above...

Ramsden just stood and stared as Brighton went off on his run-on sentence. He started talking, and just didn't stop. By then end of it, Ramsden could say nothing; he was pure stunned. He looked to Amaya, someone he'd always liked as a friend, only to see her "I'm-glad-you're-leaving" smile. His broken attitude shattered at that. He flipped. When Amaya started to walk away, he grabbed her shoulder and twisted her around so she was facing him, and went off on her.

"YOU HAD A PART IN THIS!? You helped-" he was cut off by Brighton. Not by yelling, but by a baton smack to the wrist. Ramsden acted as though it didn't hurt, but he definitely noticed as because he turned on Brighton pointing a knife hand at him now, keeping his hand still on Amaya. "Brighton I swear to god right now I won't hurt her but you will let me say my speech." His look was of pure stone right now, he had no humor or patience anywhere on his face.
"Ramsden if you so much as move for your gun-"
"You'll kill me I get it, shut up." He swung back to Amaya.

"So how long have you all been planning on throwing me out? Oh yeah that's a great ******** plan." He took his hands off her and just looked at them both, but still gesticulating out of anger. "Forget that fact that I've probably saved several Minutemen god knows how many times. Screw that I never even came close to hurting a teammate. ******** that I've always made sure I was the one in danger when s**t got heavy, that I VOLUNTEERED to take point every god-damn time, that I've sacrificed hours, probably accumulated DAYS to help train some of your soldiers better at shooting and countering and hand-to-hand. No, just disregard it all. I'm dangerous? That's why we're kicking me out? Danger? Yeah I'm ******** dangerous. TO THE DAMN ENEMY! Oh no I scare people waaaaah THEY'RE ALIVE IT DOESN'T MATTER! But I guess you know, as long as you all look good, who cares right? Typical military mind-set. No one cares what happens as long as you look good doing it. Don't expect me back after I leave Brighton. You think about this long and hard, because if I'm gone at 0700 tomorrow, you won't be seeing me again, enemy or ally."

He walked off, harshly nudging the few juniors that had gathered behind to give reports out of his way, and headed to his room. He was mad, it was pretty clear. He started mumbling phrases to himself. "Kick me out of my own team... save their lives and it doesn't matter." He looked up and saw a few people giving him odd looks. "...I feel you should know I'm leaving you because your Commander thinks I'm a danger to my own teammates, when I've never so much as playfully threatened any of you. Just saying." He continued his walk to his room, realizing how tired he was.

When he entered his room, he collapsed on his bed after removing his glasses. Erin retreated to her small bed and Blitz had one of his few well enjoyed nights where he shared the bed with Ramsden. It was nothing personal towards Erin, but he'd seen her dream sometimes and well, he didn't exactly feel safe if she had another fighting dream. He'd figured if the steel rod he used for training had split in half from a quick dream swipe, he wouldn't stand a chance against a light swing. He fell asleep in seconds.

It was 0600 when he got his wake-up call. A junior Minuteman walked into his room and went to wake him up. Blitz however being a far lighter sleeper, jumped up and started charging his fur making it stand on end. Ramsden woke quickly from the weak light show and the Minuteman opening the door to his room. "Blitz, stand down." Ramsden ordered, knowing the man's face. "What." Ramsden more told the question than asked it.

"Uhmm... Ramsden, Commander Brighton told me to tell you if you weren't gone yet to go pick up the Galladeigh girl along with the Tobias boy."
"And do what?"
"I don't know sir th-"
"I'm not a sir don't you put in the ranks with the ******** officers."
"Sorry Ramsden." The guy was obviously a little nervous. "Anyway uhm... I don't know that's all Commander Brighton said."
"Yeah yeah I got'cha. And there's no need to be scared, you're a teammate I won't hurt you. Regardless of what Brighton or that Amaya b***h say." He walked out of the room slipping on his boots as he went.

Ramsden approached the bike with Erin next to him, riding his shoulders again. She'd woken up as he was leaving and began following him immediately. Blitz was put back in his pokeball on the trip to the bikes. "Let's go find these two. I imagine either the orphanage, or that one guy's house... I forget his name right now I don't really care." Ramsden retracted Erin back into her ball, hopped on the bike, started it, and headed off towards the Orphanage. Upon arrival a few moments later, he entered to see a children sleeping in their beds, and immediately started searching for Juno.

Within a few minutes, he located the blond teen asleep on a couch and shook her to wake her up.
"Hmm?" She sleepily made a noise and sat up noticing Ramsden standing there. "Ryan?" On her way up though, she outstretched an arm and weakly slapped him in the face. Entirely by accident of course.
"I prefer Ramsden actually but,-" He got smacked. "Really Juno?"
"Sorry..." She laughed a little, still tired.
"Anyway, yes it's me. Juno I need you to come with me. I'm not sure what's going on but Brighton just ejected me from the Minutemen for some absolute bullshit reason and I now need to take you and Tobias somewhere. We need to go back and see Brighton for further info. Do you have any idea where he is?" He talked in a low whisper to try and avoid waking up any of the kids.
PostPosted: Wed Jul 06, 2011 8:14 pm

Juno was not a very happy camper. Fortunately for her hometown, the shooting stopped and everything was mostly okay. She kept the gun - Lacy didn't want it, and Juno was happy to have her own gun rather than continue to borrow other people's weapons at the range. She waved goodbye to the scientist and headed towards the orphanage. More than likely, Unca Ben wasn't going to be home so what was the point in going there? He would have been out fighting and really, the orphanage was much closer to her. All she wanted was a couch to sleep on and some sleep.

Once she had gotten to the building, she collapsed on the couch in blissful sleep. While she may not have lived at the orphanage, she worked there part-time as a caretaker/babysitter and had a key to the building.

Of course, her blissful sleep was partially ruined by a phone call to Naya (it was pretty vague, but Juno could still tell the director of the orphanage wasn't all that happy) and then later by being woken up by Ryan. She'd accidentally smacked him in face but he didn't seem too angry about that. "Uh what? You're gonna have to explain this to me a bit more slowly. It sounded like you said that Brighton ejected you from the Minutemen? Really? That doesn't sound like something he'd do." Juno would know - he was her father's commander. After her parent's died, she had worried she'd be living in the orphanage, but her uncle took her in. From there, she still got into the Minutemen's area and hung out with (okay more like bothered) some of the soldiers when she could. Heck, she managed to get them to give her shooting lessons. Ramsden was one of the individuals who taught her how to shoot a gun.

"Mind explaining this bullshit reason to me?" Juno didn't understand and it bothered her a lot. They didn't turn their backs on each other...but she did notice that people were uncomfortable around Ryan - ack, Ramsden, he preferred Ramsden. She'd asked about it several times but people never told her why they worried. Not even Brighton would tell her. Juno didn't get it. Ramsden was a pretty nice guy to her and to those around him as far as she could tell.

"As for Toby, I'm not too sure. I figured he'd be at home." She would have told him where he lived, but at that point, Naya came in the room carrying a boy in her arms. She explained how she found the boy outside while throwing out the trash and that she was going to take him to the doctor when Juno stated, "Wait...that's Toby." Now Juno was really irked. One of her most annoying features was that she didn't really get scared - she just got angry.

She had nearly been kidnapped the night before and now Toby wouldn't wake up. What was going on? "The doctor at base should still be up right? We can drop Toby there to see if there's anything he can do for Toby while you and I go talk to Brighton." There was no way she wasn't getting some answers out of the Commander. And maybe her uncle was still around there...if Ramsden was up, then it was likely her uncle was awake just to be informed of Juno's (apparent) departure.

Maddy began running around the shop collecting things, fiddling with devices, the phone's long cord leashed her but she could reach most stuff. Scrawling between tables she reached up and slapped an ominously red button on one of the warehouse's many pillars, a short, cartoonish siren blared, probably only audible to the adjacent warehouses. A platform in the rafters above began to decent with the even clank of chains, on the side wall a slab of concrete lifted itself almost silently by comparison. The platform held a not entirely shiny sort of aluminum pyramid on skis. It's longest side had a lengthened ATV truckbed, it's shortest side, the front, had a pair of battered bucket seats and a short kick shield, only going up to about knee height. The two long sides between the front and back were lined with shelves perfectly sized for tool boxes, with straps to hold them in place Maddy was packing one such toolbox with the bottled water from the fridge. In the center of the frame, situated just above the bucket seats was a large sort of clamp made out of two steel rings wrapped in the remnants of bicycle tires, the lower ring resting freely on five lever clamps. There was not even a hint of engine or steering on the strange vehicle.

She had thought of it more than a year before she even arrived in Cliffshire. Back on the hike she would ride Roger, he could move a lot faster and longer. The first conceptualization had been a sort of motorcycle wherein she would have basically strapped a chair on, but that had so many flaws, the chief of which being that Roger himself must be the driver, and Maddy merely a navigator. There had been other versions, some of which she still used, some of which she sold, but this one was almost the pinnacle of magnetic-pokemon based vehicular technology. As available in the region anyways, not like it's a booming sector with most magnetic `mons native to the western planes.

At the siren Roger woke again, as well as Smiffy this time, and moved himself to a small stoop on the fuse box. His eye seemed to change to indicate a mouthless smile as he hummed lightly at the current.

"Pretty much exactly that, plus a crazy hobo, anyways, so you'll be heading north soon? With raiders 'maybe' out there, especially ones stupid enough to take on raideropolis, the main routes probably aren't safe, wouldn't want to take the rails since you're stuck on the path, and the 98 is the only straight shot from here. I figure if I'm heading over, might as well meet up with you and be entirely safe"

In the back of her mind she was still trying to place this Ulysses, if nothing else she would try to stop by, in case the oaks had told him to expect more charges.

When Toby was seen by Ramsden, he was about to jump up and hurry over to see if he could do anything, but Juno beat him to the punch. It was clear she just wanted some answers, and Ramsden knew Nayana could take care of Toby no problem.

"So Juno. Naya can easily take care of Toby. Let's go see Brighton and head off shall we?" Ramsden really didn't want details at this point as he had almost had a freakout when he initially saw Toby, thinking the child was dead. He dispersed that theory quickly however when he saw Naya wasn't scared, and also hadn't brought him directly to the hospital. This was just not Ramsden's day.
"I need Juno right now Naya. Sorry for the sudden statement, but it really shouldn't take long. Juno has to come with me to see the Commander, and we'll figure out more from there. I wish I had more info, I really do, but I'm about to get every peice I can, and then I'll relay it to you. Just watch after Tobias please. He's more important." Naya was about speak, but realized Ramsden had a fair point and turned back to Toby.

Ramsden led Juno to his bike and jumped on indicating the back seat on his Ninja for Juno to join him. It was a dark cerulean color and a 2004 model. He had stripped the fenders off though. He never really liked them. Juno climbed onto the back seat and put her arms around Ramsden. He didn't move for a minute and said, "...damnit I don't have a helmet for you... Eh ******** it. Just hold on tight." her grip tightened, he started it up, and sped off.

Juno followed Ramsden into the space just before the doors to Brighton's office. Ramsden hit the door a few times and waited for Brighton's instructions to enter. "Speak as long as you want Juno. I want answers, and so do you. Ask away, and I'll do the same. We're gonna figure out what the hell is happening."

Tavish entered the gun shop after leaving Trouble and Deadeye outside to keep a lookout. There were a crapton of people around already, no need to cause more of a stir than need be. Besides, they'd be much more useful standing guard than sitting around in the store. He gave the two a consolatory pat on their respective heads and began to push his way past the throngs of people gathered both outside and inside the store. From what they were saying, it looked like they were blaming Riverdale after all. An attack seemed to be in the planning stages already; likely wouldn't be too long before a full assault was mounted. Tavish kept his ears open, trying to absorb as much conversation as he moved towards the counter. He tore a wad of bills from his jacket, and placed them on the counter. The shopkeeper came towards him, a confused expression on his face. "Mr....T-Tavish? Hell, man, I hardly recognized you!" Tavish turned towards the man, and pointed to two of the guns on the rack. "The M16, an dae M24 sniper rifle, please. Ammo fer both. An...ah hell, throw in ae nonlethal weapon a some sort. Tavish's expression quite clearly stating that he wasn't in a talking mood; the shopkeeper decided to forgo the questions and get the guns like he was asked. Two rifles and a taser later, Tavish exited the shop, the rifles slung across his back, secured with two belts he'd looped across his chest, having purchased them with the guns. He walked towards Trouble and Deadeye, the duo obviously not having seen much, considering Trouble was trying to nap and Deadeye was sunning himself. Tavish sighed. They were all getting too damn soft for this sort of thing...he should be in his home drinking whiskey and tinkering with something right about now...instead, looked like he was going to have to shoot some daft b*****d in the near future. Assuming, anyway, that he didn't get shot first. Tavish hobbled towards the 'pokes, then stopped, someone coming towards the store having caught his eye. Was that the Hale girl from last night? He began to amble over in that general direction to investigate, his eyes cautiously probing the crowd, looking especially closely at tattoos.

Schraeder laughed emptily and threw his hands up in the air. "Of course they did," he groaned to himself. A misdreavus coasted through the wall and looked around before leaving, taking Ulysses with it. Schraeder and Djinn were left alone, so the young man looked at the gengar and shrugged. He wasn't sure if the Pokemon understood, but Djinn's grin seemed to mock Schraeder's situation just enough to make the boy blow his breath out in an explosive sigh and walk out after Ulysses.

"Who's this guy?" Schraeder asked, looking down at Jason from his elevated position. Though he was about six years younger than Jason, Schraeder looked down his nose at him. He viewed him with a mixture of interest, mistrust, and disdain. "And...what does he want?"

He stepped a bit so that he was closer to the tied-up attacker. If this guy was here to cause trouble, Schraeder would minimize it by keeping the gunman from escaping while Ulysses and his shotgun handled the rest.

It was easy for Lexi to find the place she was looking for, as it was the building that seemed to have half the town ambling around it…Just looking at the crowd in her underslept state was enough for the girl to lose any excitement she might have had and gain a honker of a headache, and she was going to have to dig around in there, find something useful, find Mr. Tavish, and somehow get out without anyone realizing the girl who couldn’t shoot was wandering around in a gun store. Fun. Why in all hell did the Oaks have to pick today? Yesterday would have been great, or heck, nearly any time in the last six years would have been good. She’d wanted to leave her hometown for so long, but the Oaks had to pick the one day that half the fighters of every city would be out in the wildlands and she’d barely managed two broken hours of sleep. She didn’t realize it, but in that way her headache helped: the expression on her face was relatively close to that worn by the rest of the gathered raiders, and no one would guess that it wasn’t Riverdale that she wanted to rip into shreds.

She stopped well before the entrance, however, when she saw a couple of pokémon waiting around outside the store in battle gear. That in itself was odd, as most of the Woodmount Guardians weren’t the type to let their pokémon walk around while they went shopping. Then she got the inkling she recognized them. Then a man walked up to them and she knew, though the whole group had undergone a phase transformation from the night before. For a second, she froze. Dirk had told her to stay inside, keep a low profile today, which had to be the exact opposite of what she was doing now. She worried that her trip might be over before it even began. But then why would the Oaks say he would take her? She decided to head over despite her doubts “I know, I know, this isn’t exactly hiding out and waiting for this to blow over.”

Ulysses didn't like the young man's tone: too aloof and apathetic about the world around him, not to mention what he was doing. Like a zombie. Schraeder arrived to add a little color to the scene.

The geezer answered, "Just what I was wondering: you have yet to tell me who you are. Let's make it quick because I have places to go and things to do, all of which are more important than threatening some zombie and his disembodied rag of a soul on my porch." Ulysses's words earned color as he became more irate, if only to more lucidly emphasize his mood and opinion of current goings-on.

By this point, Djinn was standing at the doorway a few paces back, holding backpack number two against himself. Gloria stood beside him and Junior continued to snooze on her back.

"You're heading over? And, uh... huh." Maddy evidently hadn't intended it, but she fairly solidly confirmed that she knew what was going on. Paul hadn't exactly told her where he was going, but she knew that he was going. "Okay, so you're heading to Glenville too? Any particular reason you were given? Ah - and are you in the area? Don't want you heading down to Riverdale and past just to get to me, we'd be better off meeting a little west of the Grove." Not entering it. Meeting near it. That was important. Paul wasn't superstitious. He didn't believe that the Grove was haunted. He was, however, very well convinced that it was hostile, and it would take quite a bit to convince him to enter it.

Well then. Maddy was evidently going to be meeting up with them too, or so she planned. That was fine. The more the merrier, under the circumstances. Paul couldn't exactly do things quietly for such a journey, and that meant more guns was a good thing. Maddy would also ensure any vehicles kept running, a service Paul was always grateful for. Paul was by no means a car mechanic; the Hilux kept running on its own virtue. His motorcycles, less reliable as they were, were serviced largely by Maddy when she made the journey to pick up the occasional wrecks that showed up outside his house. Paul could fix a tire, he could maybe trick an engine into functioning, but he generally didn't bother.

"Uh, and an odd question, I suppose," he added, "but is there someone you're supposed to escort someplace, by chance? Seems like that's the big deal here." Paul tried to remember if he'd mentioned he'd been asked specifically to escort Alyssa to Glenville, not just send her off. Eh, didn't hurt either way - if she went, he figured it was best he go with her. If for nothing else than to find out why.
