"A'ight then," Paelor tossed the sparks again, made a show of examining them, then carefully placed the sticks so that they created some odd shape using all but the smallest.

"Ah, now, t'is 'ere s'ape is a sacred s'ape ta meh people," Paelor informed him, sagely. "It goes way back ta the beginin' of th' imps. Ah could tell yeh th' story if yeh like, but it might take awhile. As fer how many points... Ah used five sticks, so its wort' six points. See?"
Paelor was already contemplating on how to explain the point system while also hoping that the larger soq didn’t ask. He wasn’t certain how long they could play before Aydan figured out that Paelor was making this up as he went.

Uh oh.... He managed to keep his apprehension off his face as he realized that he'd just been called on a lie. "Oh?" he asked, more to buy himself time than because he was actually interested. "T'is friend is a sh' is sh'? Is sh' cute? A lady friend maybeh? Someone special?"
He tossed the questions at the stallion hoping to get him talking long enough to let him make something up. If all else failed, he might be able to distract the larger stallion.

But, she does have a love of stories and if I can tell her a tale in the safety of our lands without her traveling to the outer woods it will be all the better for me and my sanity," Or what's left of it, he thought with an internal sigh. Sonja certainly did have a knack for finding trouble and he worried that she seemed to be wondering off farther and father with no one for company but that cat...no, things were not going well for him there.
"So, this sacred marking, Is its story old?"

"Oh yes," Paelor agreed, bluffing his way through this. But that was fine. Bluffing was his middle name. Well, not really, but for now he was willing to pretend it was. "It's a very old story. One that all little implings know before they can even walk. That's what I am, you know. An Imp. Have you ever met any other imps before?"

Marking? He hadn't considered that, but he could roll with it. "Only one 'as th' marking. T'at's w'y it's so sacred. Cuz of that marking. Anyw'o, t'ere was t'is imp once, a long, long time ago... eh, Ah s'ould tell it in order, yea'?" Another delaying tactic as he realized that his story wasn’t going to make much sense if he started with a generic once upon a time. “Yeh sure yeh really wanna ‘ear t’is? It isn’t really a pretty story.”

Th’ s’ort version is t’at t’ere was t’is really nasty race, a long time ago, t’at liked to snack on us poor imps. We didn’t ‘ave much defense against ‘em. T’en one day, an imp was born wit’ t’at marking and ‘e saved us.”
