The grin on Ariane's face was quickly replaced by a serious expression at the man's question as she leaned against the back of her chair; the previous question was not as difficult as this one. While she would like to believe that she had no fears, that was of course, a blatant lie... Grabbing a piece of paper and a pen from the table, she frowned, staring at it as she tried to think of her fears.

A mundane existence.

That was what she wrote down after a moment's thought; after all, that was the push factor in her decision to sign that waiver to come here in the first place. She didn't want to be an average joe - she wanted something more in her life. Excitement, a real purpose and of course, her hobby - and now job - of hunting (literally this time) down the things that go bump in the night. Tapping her pen against the table, she paused before writing down something else below that.

Losing my peers.

Another pause followed, and she scanned her answers one last time before passing the small paper to their superior, wondering about the purpose of the exercise.

They wanted them to write down their fear? Tika blinked. She'd been quiet through out the whole thing and managed to some how be a blip under the radar but now the teen was more alert. Others were already writing down their fears. So sheepishly the teen chewed her pen and did the same as the other candidates.

- Freezing to death

The teen chewed the tip of her pen some more. Was that what they were looking for or was that to general of a statement? Tika looked over her answer for a moment or two before deciding she was fine with it and passed her card to Caelius.

Petra didn't blink an eye as the 'Reaper' Caelius continued, listening with a blankness that might have construed as her spacing out if her eyes didn't move subtly whenever he shifted, following his hand as he grabbed for another card. In reality, she was thinking, thinking and listening intensely as he mapped out what they would basically be doing for the facility. She didn't seem perturbed as he basically made it clear that they did not and would not baby them -- if that wasn't obvious by their first 'mission' -- and her unresponsiveness could be accurately taken as an agreement. She did, however, tense a little as the word fear suddenly resonated from his lips, an uncontrollable flinch she didn't even have time to think about before it'd already happened. Shifting a little uncomfortably, Petra hesitated before picking up the pen, staring at the blank card as the others scribbled, the heavy sound of Robert's heavy scrawl and then angry-sounding scratching echoing a little in her ears.

She knew what she wanted -- she wanted control. She wanted to be in charge. Not in charge of anyone else -- she didn't care to be in any sort of position of power except for over herself. In fact, she preferred someone else to take the reigns in general, much more comfortable to work as a unit with others under someone infinitely more capable than herself... Alpha One, for example. Someone competent she had no issues with following, with an obedient ruthlessness she now knew she was capable of. But not being in control of her own life... that was fear itself. It was ironic, really, those two thoughts... they seemed so contradictory, putting her life in other people's hands. But she chose to put it there, and she chose whom she trusted with the task. They were worth it, every single one of them, and she knew they wouldn't let her down. And she would never let them down. Never.

So... was it a fear of being powerless... or of abandonment?

In the end, being powerless sounded better in her head than the word abandonment.

She wrote it in almost-too-firm strokes, feeling her skin crawl a bit as she mulled it over, suddenly having an acute idea of just what they could do with these cards. What they probably would do. Having weaknesses was a liability, especially with such a sensitive operation. So... what could be better than using their weaknesses to make them immune to them in the first place? If that was their plan, it was good... except for the possibility that they crumble under their own phobias, she couldn't find anything wrong with a plan like that. Flipping the card over, she ignored the others who stood up to turn in their card, not quite paranoid enough yet for that -- she was close enough to hand it to him directly. Instead, she just slid it across the table towards him, lifting her hand from the card to set them back on her lap.

Ennéa bit her lip and flicked the blank card between her fingers, pondering the question. What was it that she feared?

Instantly, the image of that black/white goat-woman surfaced in her mind. Ennéa shuddered and nearly dropped her notecard. Even now she couldn't quite explain the visceral horror she had felt that night. Words just could not seem to adequately describe that creature's horrible gaze and mocking laughter; couldn't explain how just a few moments in its presence had managed to reduce her to a quivering ball, unable to do anything.

Was the goat-woman what she feared? Ennéa slowly uncapped her pen to write her answer but then hesitated, frowning.

No, that wasn't quite right. Ennéa closed her eyes and thought about that horrible night. After the goat-woman had left, Ennéa had called her brother with shaking hands barely able to grasp the phone receiver. She had begged Tobias for reassurance, to help her feel safe once again. She wanted him to understand.

Only, he hadn't understood and, she realized that night, he never had. Her whole childhood, growing up practically raised by him, *everything*, was nothing but kind lies and concern.

Ennéa opened her eyes again and ruthlessly rubbed them before the stinging could change to tears. That was it, wasn't it? The goat-woman had deeply scared her, but what she was terrified of, what she feared most was trust.

Her simple trust in the person most important to her had broke that night. And after that night, nothing was the same ever again. Ennéa looked over to Jordan and to her other Phoenix squad mates, her heart heavy. She adored her squad mates; she would fight tooth and nail to not let them down; she would keep trying -- no matter what -- to help and protect them. She had made that promise.

But. She didn't think she could trust them, not with that easy wholehearted trust she once had. She couldn't bear to be broken again like that; she was terrified of it happening again.

Ennéa squirmed in her seat. She didn't like facing such hard truths about herself, even in her own head. She quickly scribbled down her answer and tossed her notecard to Caelius as if burned. Then, desperate for distraction, she looked around the room, trying to guess what everyone else had written.

"Thank you, thank you, that will be all the time we have today." Caelius wrapped both his hands around the cards and shuffled them lightly until they all fell neatly into place. "Now if you excuse me, I'll be taking your cards and reviewing them, and oh, how convenient why look at this! Your first faculty assessment mission has been scheduled! Pack lightly, and head over to the training grounds in exactly an hour, your mission will be explained to you after you have been safely transported. Hopefully this will clear up all your understandings and... misunderstandings." He did not even bother to pretend looking at his watch at this point. "As for me, well, I have some better things to do."

With that, they gave a small bow, took one more step back, and pivoted striding out the door. Other than the sole vacancy, the room did not change at all.

((OOC: Your students can make an "exit" post following this but ALL Hunters are required to post HERE afterwards for their first mission. Please note: you do not have access to uniforms OR weapons at this point, or during the first mission)).

And then it was done. Gale slowly slid his feet down from where he had propped them back up against the table (Ariane had been distracted by writing), pushing himself to his feet and stretching out his arms. The idea of a mission excited him, and eagerly he took a surreptitious look around the room as the man - Caelius - disappeared out the door. He wasn't sure what the mission would entail, really, but it was still thrilling.

"Well," he said, mostly to himself as he tapped a finger against his chin. "Guess I better go pack."

Then, with his hands in his pockets, Gale Gentry ambled out of the room and back to his own.

Scott frowned, after which he noted he should probably start growing accustomed to that particular expression. They once again found themselves being shuffled along from one meaningless task to the next, with as little explanation as possible. It wasn’t necessarily surprising anymore, but that didn’t make it any less irritating.

“Well, then,” Scott rose, offering a look to the only two people in the room he could offer one to. “Hopefully we won’t have to kill each other this time.”

He hesitated before exiting the room, trying to determine whether or not he was joking before realizing that it didn’t really matter at this point.

Robert's mood lightened faster than the blink of an eye.

"Ooooh. Fieldtrip." At this point, anywhere out of this stuffy room was a field trip. Still, packing? That meant a road trip was in order. He didn't think he had stuff to pack, but he knew there was one thing he wouldn't be forgetting.

He stood up from his chair, clapped Jordan hard on the shoulder with a grin, and gave the girls a wink. "Let's go get some."

Robert had just the kind of cheesy, hardened charisma that made a line like that sound inspiring, and not - well, cheesy.

Then he bent down in front of Petra, without so much as a look, and flipped the girl over his shoulder. It was time for them to have a little talk, and he wasn't taking no for an answer.

Hence the flipping her over his shoulder bit.

He saluted Jorden military style, and sauntered out.

'Let's go get some'? That was really what he was ending this solemn, life-changing meeting with? 'Let's go get some'?!

Petra looked up from where she had been pointedly ignoring him, pretending she didn't feel the dark mood radiating from his being, something that had, in fact, been slowly eating away at her throughout the entire meeting. It had taken a hell of a lot of self control for her face not to twitch in many instances, and it had certainly been a ******** miracle for her not to have ordered him to get on the table right that very second. It was literally impossible not to resist him -- her only saving grace had been that she had lived with him for quite some time, and if she hadn't built up some sort of defense mechanism she would have likely been in some serious trouble. Still, there was a limit to everything, and the words that that boy had just uttered quickly brought her to hers, her expression nothing less than incredulous as she stared at him, speechless for once not because of her own free will, but because she could seriously not think of a damn thing to say to that. There were no words. Just possibly what the ******** were you thinking when you said that? Which her eyes were saying quite well.

Except he wasn't even looking at her.

Folding her arms loosely across her chest, she had just started to move to get up when she felt the large, strong hands suddenly close on her hips, and within a few seconds she was suddenly staring at the slightly-dirty tile floor, the blood inexplicably starting to rush to her head. For a second she just blinked, a little startled -- it wasn't as if she didn't realize what had happened, considering, well, it was Robert. But he hadn't even looked at her! In fact, she'd expected him to walk right by her, although in retrospect that was a pretty illogical, dumb thing to think. It was just as she was lifting her head to watch behind them as Robert carried her out the door and she watched as Caelius and the rest of her new hunter peers began to slowly shrink that the implication of this action was suddenly realized, a flush spreading across her cheeks.

Once again, Petra Walker was completely speechless, this time out of complete mortification. If Robert Morris thought he was going to get any in any reasonable time frame, he had another thing coming.

So they were done already? Tika looked around at the other faces and shrugged. She'd not said a word during this whole thing so why start now? Instead of staying to chat about what they had all just sat through the teen opted to sneak out and get prepared.

... Did that Robert guy just...?!

Ohh, yes he did! Awesome.

Noticing that Gale had already left the room (sneaky little kid), she stood up, hand resting on one hip as she looked at the ex-Betas with a grin, "See you in under an hour~ Don't be late; you shouldn't keep a girl waiting!" While her expression suggested that she might be jesting, her tone suggested that whoever is late will probably get it from her.

Whatever 'it' means is up to interpretation.

Without waiting for a reply, she walked out the door, flipping her hair over her shoulders; time to pack for their little mission... This should be exciting.

Jude had come in and sat down in the very back area. He'd been quiet and contemplative the entire time but above all else he tried very hard to simply take in everything that was currently happening. It was all a bit much to take in during the first few moments of what he would call a 'rebirth' but he would swallow it down and take it all in especially if it meant survival of some sort. When it all seemed to be over he blinked feeling as if he'd just sat down but he supposed that was the price of being late.

He'd quietly introduced himself but otherwise he'd been silent. When questions were answered of him he only faltered a little before he decided to answer, "I want to find the truth," it was simple enough. He wanted to find the truth, the meaning to these Shadowy Figures that haunted him since he was young amongst other things.

Jude wasn't sure what he was frightened of but he simply scribbled down the word 'Loss' and let it go at that. He was afraid of losing sanity. Afraid of losing family and friends but he had neither of those here or so he felt.

When it came time to go he simply turned and wandered out with the rest easily falling in amongst the the others. Almost faceless and nameless.

It all felt hectic and yet not. As if that made any sense at all.

There was still a lot to be done back in her room. She had barely dropped her bag before they had been brought to this orientation. Things were still confusing, and more than anything, Hanna just wanted to clear her head. She had spent plenty of time with these people when they were all trying to kill each other. A few hours alone wouldn't be so bad.

But there was a mission at hand.

Golden eyes widened for a moment, excitement pumping in her chest. She got out of the room as quickly as she could. Time to pack, psych herself up, and remind herself that all of this was really happening -- one more time.

The moment Caitlyn finished her introduction, the man at the room spoke up once more. He spoke of missions and learning, of gaining experience. Caitlyn wanted to learn, but if the missions were anything like the week on the island, well, she shuddered to think of it.

What was her greatest fear?

Caitlyn could make a list as long as she was tall of all of the things that scared her. The dark, for one thing. The old barn was another. But none of those seemed important anymore. They didn’t seem big enough to write on the clean white card.

So, what was her fear then? Caitlyn thought back to the last moments of her old life. The white walls and white uniforms, the voices that spoke about her, but never to her. Caitlyn felt goose pimples raise on her arms at the thought of the nurse’s needle pricking the sensitive skin of her inner elbow.

She swallowed deeply and wrote: Oblivion.

As she handed her card up to the front of the room the man with the suspiciously familiar scythe, Caelius, mentioned their first mission. Already? Caitlyn opened her mouth as if to protest, but the man was already gone.

Feeling suddenly vulnerable in this room full of Betas and strangers, Caitlyn slipped into the procession of exiting students and left as discretely as she’d arrived, with one quick glance over her shoulder and the dark haired girl who’d identified herself as Epsilon Ten. They would have to have a talk.

Bix was ready for a mission. At least he thought he was. At the mention of it he got a determined look on his face but the 'Ferdinand' voice in the back of his mind was fretting, STRESSING even, over what to pack. WHat kind of mission was it?!

After Ariane and Gale left he pushed himself away from the table.

"You ready?" He patted Before on the back. "Not sure what I should pack.. but we should get going."

He paused just a moment before he also headed back to his room to prepare for whatever their first mission would bring him.
