Nareau Nareau: The name of an oceanic god, the creator of the universe. God of creation/construction/etc. Sometimes called Sir Spider or Lord Spider.
OKAY, UH, there's a few different versions of the story due to it being widespread around Micronesia, but here's a quick run down: In the beginning, Nareau walked alone in the oppressive darkness. Eventually, from -insertobject- (usually.. like... a rock or shell) he created the world. Then from sand and water he created two beings, man and woman. They created the sun and the moon from Nareau's eyes, the stars from his brain, and from his flesh and bones they made the islands, land, and trees (or, instead of using Nareau's body parts, they use the first man and woman's). From the union of those first two beings came forth the other gods. Nareau still appears on earth every so often as a spider. Don't squish spiders pls. (kind of similar to guam's creation story! we have sibling gods instead of nareau tho, puntan and fu'una. o Ao)
