Eliya ~

Before Ilsa had a chance to engage Eliya, an arrow whizzed through the air and found its mark in her right shoulder. The redheaded woman didn't need to turn around to know that it was Illumus who had let it fly. Nice to know he's got my back.... Eliya advanced on the dark elf and was slightly disappointed to see the woman recover quickly from the attack, tossing her sword from her right hand to left. Just my luck, she's ambidextrous. Eliya pulled her short sword from its sheath and twirled her elongated dagger in her other hand as the distance between them swiftly decreased. She had an advantage and she was going to make the most of it.

Through her peripheral vision she saw Torval dive out of the way of Illumus' next shot. Too bad an arrow hadn't landed in him as well, but at least it gave her a brief window of opportunity to take down his right hand, Ilsa. A second before their blades clashed however, an unknown voice yelled out, 'Excuse me'!' Eliya's natural reaction was to look to see who the voice belonged to, but training forced her attention to stay on Ilsa, and it was a good thing too because at that exact moment the other woman lunged at Eliya, as if expecting her attention to falter at the newcomer's entrance.

The Altmer jumped back at the Dunmer's lunge and parried the woman's attack with her shortsword and dagger. The sound of steel sliding on steel filled the room along with other sounds of battle, and from the side Eliya could now see who the newest person was. It was one of the members of the Fighter's Guild. How in the name of Azura had he broken away from the battle and found himself here? Did the Fighter's Guild suspect anything? Doubtful....even now the Imperial was attacking Torval with gusto. Well this was interesting...but it had turned the tides in their favor all the more. Soon Torval and Ilsa would be dead and then.... well, then Eliya would have to decide what to do with the man from the Fighter's Guild.

Ilumus had prepared for another shot but was surprised by the sudden "Excuse me" He recognised the voice and it was confirmed when the fighter's guild member pushed past him to join the battle. Once again he had prepared his shot, saw that Torval was distracted and turned his attention to Ilsa. He saw that Ilsa had simply switched sword arms and aimed to take out her other arm, but needed to wait for an opening, to make sure not to harm Eliya.

He saw neither of the two targets were going to break away from the two helping him. He thought about the last time he took a close shot to Eliya and hoped this outcome would repeat itself again. He loosened his grip and with the sound of a twang, his attention turned almost instntly and blood had been shed. Ilumus stood there, vision from his right eye failed him. He wasn't the one who released the arrow, but he was the one who was hit. A fellow Fighter's Guild member had mistaken him as one of the targets, if he hadn't turned his head, he would have been killed. Instead the arrow had pierced through his right eye at an angle that it didn't harm his brain, thus not killing him.

He had fell to a his knees, the pain almost knocked him out. 'I didn't screw up this time... it wasn't me... but still I'm punished,' he did his best to continue fighting as he stood back up. "I'm not the enemy" he shouted to the friendly assassin and once again had his aim on Ilsa. Releasing the arrow, he growled as it whizzed past between Eliya and Ilsa. He then knew the angle he needed to aim to compensate for the missing eye and drew another arrow as he took aim again.

Bareok Kayle
User Image

xxxxxxxxxxxxA flash a confusion crossed Torvel's face as Bareok began his somewhat crazed laughter. He didn't falter, though. Apparently the man had seen his fair share of crazies. Either that, or he was too well-trained to let anything as simple as a laugh distract him. The Imperial brought up his sword a little too late to block the Nord's next attack, and got sizable dent in his steel armor and the wind knocked out of him for his efforts. He stumbled to the side and nearly fell over if he hadn't been able to square his feet under him.

xxxxxxxxxxxxLuck more than anything caused his attempted block to continue onwards towards Torvel. Bareok's weapon didn't hit him hard, but it did manage to open a fine line of skin on his foe's face, exposing his skin to the air. Torvel hissed as it it had stung him a little, and there were faint traces of the poison Bareok had coated the blade with. It probably burned, but it wasn't incapacitating. Especially for a skilled warrior that the Nord turned out to be. The contact with Bareok's enemy, however, allowed him to channel a quick weakness to poison spell, which made the cut hurt even more than it should have. Torvel swore, and this time did actually falter slightly; the hammer took a good amount of time to get back in position besides. It gave the Imperial a chance to undo a pocket on his belt that kept his final potion of damage health safely secured and bring it out quickly to hurl as hard as he could at the guy's face. This was something that Bareok had practiced quite a bit for situations such as these, otherwise he would have never been able to pull it off. It clipped a nice sharp bit on the Nord's helm and splashed into his face and eyes, and especially in the cut on his cheek.

xxxxxxxxxxxxOf course, Bareok had to drop his Claymore in order to perform this action, it being a two-handed weapon and him being staggered from the blow he took. It was a very good thing that the combination of glass and pain and poison effectively blinded the leader of whomever these people were. The now screaming man blindly charged and swung wildly at Bareok, who stumbled out of the way until his back hit the opposite wall. The Imperial dropped to the ground and rolled painfully to the side. The dent in his armor inhibited pain-free movement. He hated fighting people with hammers. His armor wasn't made for that. His fighting style also wasn't made for the dagger that he drew from his belt and he clumsily got to his feet. It was a good thing that Torvel was still blinded and still wildly attacking the air where Bareok had last been.

Eliya ~

Eliya danced back and forth with Ilsa as their swordplay continued. The Dunmer woman was renowned for her skill with a sword, but the Altmer was no novice either when it came to playing with knives. The dark elf's longsword slid away from the high elf' weapons and came precariously close to cutting off an ear. Viciously Eliya quickly followed the attack with one of her own, advancing on the woman and causing her to stumble back slightly as the redhead took advantage of her wounded arm with a high kick. At this exact moment the mage assassin heard someone cry out, and a moment later an arrow zipped between the two female elves, uncomfortably close. Taking advantage of the brief moment, Eliya turned to check on Illumus.

What she saw was so unexpected that is caused her to falter. An arrow was sticking out of the young man's right eye, or rather what had been his right eye. Blood was pouring down his face. And even as their gazes connected, the man managed to line up another arrow and let go. Fortunately for Eliya, Illumus was either extremely good at Archery, or extremely lucky in this moment, (though that seemed an odd thing to think considering the damage that had just been done to him) because despite only having one functioning eye, he successfully shot another arrow into Ilsa. This one thudded through the middle of her throat, and stopped her in mid attack as she attempted to cut down the distracted Altmer.

As the arrow whizzed past Eliya, she didn't notice how close it was, but turned just in time to see Ilsa fall back from her attack. The redhead hadn't expected the woman to recover so quickly from the kick to her injured shoulder, if Illumus hadn't just shot that arrow.....a knot of fear settled in Eliya's stomach as she moved quickly towards her fellow assassin, reaching for the spare potion of health she had on her belt. If he lived there was going to be serious permanent damage, and as much as she hated to think about it, his eye sight was permanently gone in one eye. She reached him just as he seemed about to collapse, and helped pour the potion down his throat. It would instantly stop the bleeding, but she wasn't sure how much it would heal him, or if he would have the ability to continue to fight. If the roles were reversed, Eliya didn't think she'd be able to.

Once he was drinking the potion, Eliya's cat like gaze scanned the room to assess. Another Fighter's Guild member had barged in and apparently mistaken Illumus for the enemy. How this was possible Eliya didn't know, but she had heard of dumb mistakes from Fighter's Guild associates before. The dumb loaf.... Eliya wanted to stalk right up to him and plunge her dagger into him repeatedly until the light faded from his eyes.....Eliya focus. Her attention shifted towards Torval and the other Fighter's Guild associate, the one with the claymore, as the newest arrival joined in on taking down the bandit leader. At this rate it wouldn't take long for Torval to be dead. But as it was Eliya wouldn't leave until she was sure. Anything less would be unacceptable to her peers, even with the state Illumus was in. The Altmer could only hope the potion she'd given him was strong enough and that he would make it. Since they appeared to have a moment, Eliya spoke to Illumus, her hand against his back as she helped him. "We need to take that arrow out. Carefully."

In the back of her mind, a part of Eliya wondered at her concern for the young man. Normally she kept herself detached from individuals, but this was a fellow brother in Sithis, and her family at the Sanctuary, as strange as it might seem, was the closest thing she had to family. Perhaps it was because they had gone on another mission before together and she had began to get to know the young man. He had become personalized, a real person in her mind, and that was what the difference was. Generally Eliya viewed people as tools, objects, targets. Not this one.

Even Ilumus was surprised by how exact his shot was. He knew he had compensated for the lack of use in one eye, but even then a killer shot like that was uncommon for him. The angle at which he stood facing Ilsa made a shot like that even more difficult, not to mention the fact that she was moving. He had little time to focus on that though, and was ready to pass out any second.

He saw Eliya head towards him, unsure of what to think but saw the potion in her hand. He didn't fight her as she helped him drink the potion and the pain subsided a little. 'Take it out. Remove the arrow' those words constantly echoed in his head. He turned away from Eliya, "I-I.... don't th-think... you should s-s-see this."

He carefully placed his right hand over his eye, the arrow between his middle and ring finger. Carefully lifted his left hand, he grabbed the arrow. Slowly and carefully he pulled the arrow, growled in pain as he did. He was quickly filled with a sickening feeling once he realised he forgot to remove the arrow head. That didn't stoop him as instead of holding his eye back, he held his eyelids open. Both arrow and eye came out completely, he let go of both his eyelids and the arrow, collapsing onto his buttocks.

Quickly he grabbed a potion of his own and drank it as well. The dizziness had gone away and he got back onto his feet, keeping his right eye closed. He looked back to Eliya and tried to smile, "Thank you." He watched Torval wanting to see him die, knowing that he cannot get his revenge on the Fighter's Guild member he shot him in the eye. He wanted to make sure that this mission was completed and whispered to Eliya, "I'm not going to quit simply because I've lost an eye."

xxxxxxxxxxxxTrusting that his allies would make sure he wasn't surprise attacked, Barok faced the raging Torvel, looking for an opportunity to attack. The Nord was still flailing wildly, but looked like he was beginning to regain his eyesight. He was at least swinging in sort of the right direction. Then the heavily armored Imperial saw his opening in and, shoulder first, charged directly into his opponent as he was recovering his hammer for another swing. Both men went to the ground, causing Torvel to drop his now useless weapon to the side somewhere. They both rolled on the floor for some time as they endeavored to gain the upper hand. Bareok however, was lucky that he kept his knife with him. That was all the advantage he needed. Torvel was on top when the Imperial managed to swing his knife hand up and into his foe's neck. The Nord slumped and gurgled as blood spilled out of his mouth and onto Bareok. He pushed out his arms to shove the dying man away and off of him. Then he rolled away and got to his feet with a grunt and a wince of pain. He would have to get that nasty dent in his armor hammered out. Only then did he finally have the chance to take in the situation around him.

xxxxxxxxxxxxThe gloomy one was pulling an arrow out of his eye. An arrow that had matching fletching of the arrows of one of the other guild recruits. Well then, that had to be quite a surprise. Bareok's bloodied face twitched in a flash of an amused grin. It was ironic, to be shot by one's own allies. It was also extremely lucky that such a shot wasn't immediately fatal. Didn't even seem to incapacitate him all that much. That guy mast have been a major masochist who was used to such pain. Bareok had seen those before. Went into so-called dungeons and knelt to the whims of some dominatrix. Selene went off and did that sometimes. Eh, he wasn't going to judge people's fetishes. Apparently this one allowed for the gloomy one to practically ignore being shot in the goddamn eye. Well, that was what Bareok would choose to believe from now on.

xxxxxxxxxxxx"So..." He said as he plucked at the straps that held his chest plate to his torso. "Those people seemed a little strange, didn't they? I've never seen bandits fight so well. And... maybe you should have waited to pull that thing out until you could get one of the Mages Guild healers... probably would have been able to save the eye." He shrugged. He didn't really care all that much about the gloomy one. "I have an extra health potion, if you need it, Miss." He offered, looking toward the concerned looking redhead.

Eliya ~

Eliya said nothing in response to Illumus' words. She was no sheltered child, she had seen more then enough blood and gore in her brief lifetime. Granted however, when the male assassin pulled out the arrow and the eye came out as well, bile rose up in her throat and she had to look away for a moment to compose herself. The moment didn't last long, about the time it took to blink, and then she was once more in control, her face impassive. Though she did not show it, Eliya was glad when she saw Illumus had a healing potion of his own. After he drank it he stood up; the Altmer was surprised how soon he was once again on her feet, and she let her guiding hand drop to her side when it was apparent he wasn't going to topple over.

Eliya wasn't sure what to say when he thanked her, it seemed like he was trying to smile, though it appeared to be more of a grimace; it was hard to tell with the blood still all over his face. At his mention of quitting, Eliya shook her head and spoke quietly so that only he could hear. "I don't think that will be necessary." The redhead turned with Illumus to watch the two Fighter's Guild members take down Torval. There was some ridiculous grappling and the female assassin could have easily stepped in and ended it, but she didn't, instead content to watch as the clumsy fighter's completed the task. It was apparent Torval had gotten something in his eyes, and though for a moment he seemed to be recovering, quick knife work at an opportune moment swiftly ended his life.

And then it was over. Ilsa and Torval were dead. Their mission was accomplished. Eliya's pleasure at this conclusion was dampened by the severity of her dark brother's wound. And further dampened as one of the Fighter's Guild members opened his mouth. Eliya stared at the warrior from the Fighter's Guild, her face unreadable. She allowed the silence to drift for a few seconds until it became what she figured was uncomfortable. "We are fine, thank you." Her words were polite but stiff. Another silence. "I believe there's still a battle going on so perhaps you should rejoin the rest of your group. I'm going to take that previous suggestion and take him to the Mage's Guild for healing." There was no need for the mage assassin to explain herself, but considering the nature of the mission she thought it wise to cover all areas. Now that the fighting in here was done, the Fighter's Guild would finish killing the bandits, or taking them prisoner, she wasn't sure what they were doing these days as she was not part of their faction. But there was no reason for the two Fighter's Guild members to stick around now was there? Not with battle raging else where? Illumus' accident actually gave them a good excuse for leaving the battle. Though the assassins had been instructed to just kill Ilsa and Torval, the Fighter's Guild had commissioned their warriors to clean out the fort completely. The five other assassins Eliya had sent out into the fort would stealthily make their own exits and return to the Sanctuary, in fact they might have gone already.

It took Ilumus a couple of seconds to completely pull himself together, he was no stranger to pain but he refused to pass out infront of others. Whether Eliya knew it or not, he was using the last of his strength to continue on as he was. He knew if they didn't leave soon he'd pass out before he could make it back to Ocheeva.

Eliya's words confused him, 'I don't think that will be necessary?' He was unsure whether she took his words the wrong way but could care less at the moment. He smiled a little though, seeing Torval take his last breath. He then heard Bareok's words and thought carefully on how to answer, "Not every bandit is an unskilled swordsman, some may even have been a town guard... as for my eye... no magic would have allowed me to keep it." He started feeling dizzy again, but did well to hide it.

He then heard Eliya speak the magic words to their escape. Right as he had turned to leave with Eliya, the other fighter guild member spoke up, "I'm sorry about shooting you in the eye... I hope this isn't going to negatively effect your relationship with your wife." Before Eliya could even react, Ilumus turned to the Fighter's Guild member, "Look... I lied... I'm not actually married to her... I said that so you'd leave me alone... I kept trying to end the conversation and leave but you kept following me, pestering me... I lied off the top of my head to get you to piss off and leave me alone." The Fighter's Guild member had stood there speachless, he was unsure whether to be angry or upset.

Ilumus continued walking with Eliya and whispers, "i'm sorry for my foolishness."

xxxxxxxxxxxxThe Imperial ignored the awkward silence the sexy redhead tried to force on him. If anything, he took advantage of the moment to look her up and down; really take in the elf standing right in front of him. If she was going to be rude to him, then it was only fair to reciprocate. Bareok hardly needed such a reason, of course. Probably would have acted the way he had regardless. "If that guy broke through the line, the battle is probably already over. Or nearly there. Your half did a good job of clearing the place from the inside out." He listened as the gloomy one explained what could make a bandit so tough, and what he said was possible, sure, but Bareok didn't quite buy it. He didn't know what, but there was something... odd...

xxxxxxxxxxxxBareok's attention wandered, but then turned to what the archer was saying to the gloomy one. It made one of his his eyebrows raise and his mouth open slightly to begin stating his disbelief. The redhead. Married to the gloomy one. And neither were freaking out right now. Furthermore; what kind of statement was 'I hope this won't negatively effect your relationship with you wife?' Instead of being able to ask the multitude of questions springing to his mind, he let out a deeply amused chuckle. The sound grew to an almost hearty laugh when the gloomy one explained the real situation.

xxxxxxxxxxxx"Dude..." Bareok said when he managed to calm down a little. "Why the hell didn't you just TELL him to bugger off? Or just said something like 'I want to talk to my friend alone please,' if you felt like being polite?" He asked with an incredulous grin on his face. "Damn, no wonder you're so gloomy, pulling the married card for something that only needs a simple excuse. Have horrible relationship problems or something?" He actually did want to find out what made that dude so strange; strange was amusing. But the gloomy one and the sexy redhead were leaving, and that, Bareok could understand. He would have been freaking out quite a bit more, had an arrow gone through his own goddamn eye. He would have been running full speed to a healer so he could save his face. Bareok was quite fond of his face.

Eliya ~

Before the two assassins could make their escape, the other fighter's guild member, the one who had shot Illumus in the eye, intercepted them with a particularly lackluster apology. His trailing words left Eliya with a brief sense of disbelief. Was this idiot human actually the one Illumus had conversed with carelessly before the battle? What were the odds....before Eliya could even react however, her dark brother spoke up and came clean, explaining how the two of them were not married and how he'd just wanted to be left alone from the annoying man's incessant pestering.

The irritated sincerity of Illumus' words ostensibly left the Fighter's Guild associate dumbfounded. The other warrior, the skeptical one, seemed to find this amusing and made no attempt to stifle his amusement. As provoking as this was, the words he spoke next only furthered the aggravation Eliya felt. The temptation to stick a dagger in him was momentarily overwhelming, but the female assassin settled for a glare full of venomous hate instead. If looks could kill, and how I wish they could, that man would drop dead where he stands. Though the Altmer wanted to act out violently, she listened to reason and grit her teeth, keeping her mouth shut. She paused however, to give Illumus a moment if he wanted to shoot any malicious departing words. If the mage assassin came across that Fighter's Guild warrior again...the thought of coming across him in an anonymous setting and slitting his throat gave Eliya a small sliver of gratification. Just a sliver though and then as quick as it had came it was gone.

The two assassins made their way down and out of the fort, exiting the way they had entered. It was apparent through the sounds they heard that battle was finishing up and the Fighter's Guild was settling in at the fort they had come to reclaim. Sounds of cheering and victory could already be heard. Little did the fools know they had been working alongside the Dark Brotherhood...little did they know how they had been used....they would never know. And such is the hand of Sithis at work.... there was no sign of the other assassins and Eliya was confident they had been successful and were already making their way back to the Sanctuary. Eliya and Illumus gathered their horses and traveled as quickly back to Cheydinhal as possible. They stopped in Anvil along the way despite Illumus' initial reluctance, and there they gathered supplies and some healing potions.Their only other stops in their four day journey was to eat and sleep, though they did stop briefly to dispose of the Hammerfell Fighter Guild's disguises. Eliya made sure no evidence of their masquerade remained. She wondered if Illumus would be able to make it to the Sanctuary, but he seemed surprisingly settled at the fact he had lost an eye, not losing a moment to practice his singular line of vision at every opportunity. They didn't speak much on the way back; both likely had much on their mind.

Four and a half days later they arrived at the Sanctuary in Cheydinhal. Illumus promptly spoke to Ocheeva and was firmly directed towards the Sanctuary's newest arrival, a medic. From the bits and pieces Eliya was able to pick up about the newcomer, it was more then obvious that there was speculation circling around. No one knew where he'd come from, how he knew Valtieri, or even who he was. So far everyone she'd come into contact with had simply referred to him as 'the purifier', a strange thing, she thought, considering he was the closest thing the Brotherhood had to a healer. Why not refer to him as 'the healer'? Or 'the medic' even? Upon her her initial arrival Eliya had reported directly to Re'Zheel, the Argonian who had selected her to lead the mission. He had been extremely pleased with her report, and had waived off Illumus' tragic loss.

"The boy will recover, and he will likely not make the ssssame missstake again." Eliya wanted to interject and state that it hadn't been Illumus' fault, but at that moment Valtieri entered to discuss some matter with the lizard man. Biting her tongue, Eliya bowed her head and turned to leave them alone. Before she departed however, Re'Zheel spoke. "Congratulationsss on your victory, Eliya Lok'tah. You have proven yourself worthy to be called 'Assassin'." The mage assassin stopped in mid stride, pride, warm like liquid, spreading throughout her entire body. She forced her mouth into a straight line and turned to bow once more. "Thank you." The Argonian and Vampire began to speak, and Eliya once more took her dismissal, a smile again on her lips as she walked away. Assassin....I like it.

After she'd reported the success of the mission to her superiors, the elven woman had the entered the dining hall in search of sustenance. Eliya figured she'd spend the next couple days getting some r&r. She deserved it. And since her classes at the University were on a holiday break she actually didn't have to rush back. It was then in the dining hall that she had heard bits of gossip about this new medic, 'the purifier'. As she ate she wondered if the rumors were true. Had this new healer arrived the way they'd said? The redhead decided it didn't matter, though she was intrigued by his description. Dropping the rest of her cheese and bread on her near empty plate, Eliya decided to head down to check on Illumus and this new, 'Purifier'.

Bareok Kayle

xxxxxxxxxxxxIt was extremely apparent from the death glare that Bareok was given by the sexy redhead that She. Was. Not. Amused. Oh, be he was. He was greatly so. Especially when the pair left without another word. He laughter resumed, a noise that would have reverberated and echoed across the rock walls of the fortress. A noise that would chill anyone. Anyone except the hardened killers that were currently emptying the fort. Bareok didn't know how close he came to dying during this single mission. If he had, though, he might have been laughing all the harder for it. Death was to be laughed at; it always came so close and yet never touched him. It was a desperate thing that was always a step behind. Well, that was how the slightly crazed Imperial saw things.

xxxxxxxxxxxxHe was left alone in the room with the dead bodies, ample loot, and the stupid archer from the fighters guild. That same stupid archer looked a little bit pale and a lot bit ashamed and dumbfounded. As he should be, after what he did to the gloomy one, and after what that gloomy one said to him. Bareok slung his arm around that wincing shoulder and turned his bloodied face to the man. “If that gloomy man reports you, you'll be in huge trouble.” Bareok informed him casually. “Learn your place, man, and you won't get your nose caught in s**t so much.” The heavily armored Imperial chuckled while he removed his arm and released the man to walk briskly out of the room. The look that archer cast over his shoulder was priceless. Bareok was almost temped to follow him and see what he would do. Probably hide out somewhere or become a bandit. There would be no place for him in the fighter's guild. Of course, no one would know what really happened in that chamber. Bareok wouldn't snitch, and the others were not what they seemed. Bareok would have loved that situation, if he had known.

xxxxxxxxxxxxThe madgod, however, was pleased.

xxxxxxxxxxxxAfter helping flush out the baddies hidden in the corner and dragging the dead outside to be burned, Bareok returned to the campsite where he and the others had slept before. It was well into nighttime when he managed to mount his horse and ride hard toward anvil. There was no way in Oblivion that Bareok was going to stay in the middle of the wilderness another night. Selene was waiting for him in the Inn, The Count's Arms, though she swore she wouldn't leave Imperial City just to go wait on him. She seemed glad and a little relieved to see him, which was sort of uncharacteristic for her. He had gone on plenty of such missions, and afterwards she would act as if he had just gone to the market for a day. This time, she was outside the inn, looking for his return. She didn't say much, only looked him up and down and sighed. She also looked tired and slightly careworn. “What's wrong with you?” Bareok asked with an arrogant grin. But she wouldn't tell him what was wrong, and soon recovered to her usual, more aloof self. The Imperial was too tired and uncomfortable to press the issue. Selene led him to their room, helped him out of his armor, into a tub to get the battle off his face and body, and tucked into bed as she would a child who had played outside too hard and had gotten himself injured and muddy.

xxxxxxxxxxxxThe next morning they set off on their horses toward the big city, where they would get Bareok's armor and weapons fixed. He spent some time gathering more herbs that he could use for potions so he could replenish what he had used during the battle.
