Theta-two could hear the sound of people around her, small thuds and rumbles as the floating islands shifted and groaned. The girl should have been thinking about their safety, and if they were okay. She should have, but she wasn’t. Survive, survive. It was a mantra in her head, aching and twisting and warping her senses beyond belief. She felt like there were strings controlling her, not sensations and emotions. Her skin felt cold and warm at the same time, like she’d been dumped into a bucket of ice, then thrown directly into the flames of hell. But every thought was muted in her head; every emotion cloaked and hanged in the wake of her situation.
And then it happened. Right in the midst of her mechanic movements, the islands began their own game. She wasn’t on one of the major ones to begin their violent shaking, but her eyes snapped to the places where large, jagged pieces of island holding players – other people – began to rumble and shift, up, down, wherever they pleased. She braced herself, as though waiting for her own island to begin moving as well, though she could only feel thin rumbles under her feet, making her catch her breath without even realizing it. Theta-two closed her eyes as the drama on the other islands unfolded. Unlike the reaper who watched on, she couldn’t bear to keep herself watching as people both pushed and protested, protected and fell. She had to keep herself focused. She couldn’t risk looking, she couldn’t risk it all.
Finally, she worked up the courage to take the leaps again, her body moving in a mechanical motion that had become far too familiar to her. She had come so far, she was still alive. She wasn’t going to die, not here, not now. She had things to do, people to protect, questions to ask. So what if it was an exhilarating bullet to the head? So what if it gave her a rush? In the beginning, that was what had mattered to her, the feeling of being alive. But now, it was shuffled to the back of her head. She was selfish, there was no denying it. But she was beginning to learn that there were more important things on this island then adrenaline rushes and running around working up lies in her head to get her on by as the Reapers moved them all like pawns. She bit into her lip and tasted a metallic bite. She was not a sheep. She was not going to wait around for her turn to die. This was her decision, and there was no looking back.
“Time to go,” She grumbled again, and shifted to run.

Some risks were not worth the attempt, as Zeta12 now found himself falling, having slipped off the edge of the next island. His heart in his throat, and a horrible emotion overtaking him: fear.
Z2... I'm sorry.
Zeta12 shreaked in terror as he fell into the chasm.

It was enough to make him sick, watching another fall into the darkness, but Bones had to remain calm if he was going to get to the end. He turned his gaze towards the prize and noticed Spock. He smiled. At least if I fall, I'll know she's only a step away. Swallowing, he moved forward, leaping another few gaps before coming to a large gap.
There was a slight moment of hesitation as he stared to the open gap. A pause before the leap to gather his thoughts was all he would need. Dark thoughts swirled in his head, thoughts of falling and watching as several had plummeted. And what had he done to stop it? Nothing, absolutely nothing. He felt more useless than a bike with no wheels. With that thought, would ever see a bike again? ...Had he ever seen a bike? Focusing his thoughts again he looked to his options. If he had any shot to getting to the other side it would be using the shortcut. Then that's the way it's going to be. He thought, taking in a breath.

It was not to be. Weightless, he felt completely weightless for the first moment as his eyes dilated fully. Fear - he wished it was just as simple as fear. No, there was a deeper sense of responsibility slipping away from him, how could he heal now? Who could he help now? No one. The words echoed in his head as the weight in his body reminded him that gravity, in fact, works.
Tumbling felt like an eternity, the blackness of the chasm engulfing him slowly as his body tumbled every which way through the damp air. Taking one last look he glanced back to Spock, a smile crossing his lips. "Keep going you damn green-blood." It echoed upward through the chasm as the small pinprick of light escaped his vision.
A cynical laugh escaped his lungs as Bones closed his eyes, "Dammit Jim, I guess I get to join you." Another laugh. "Let's boldly go then."
Further and further down until...
Silence. Then there was only silence as Bones's jostled body joined the others who had fallen to the darkness.

Theta 6 frowned at all the jumping, but this was a game of survival and so she would jump all she could for the pendant. It was like a pot of gold at the end of rainbow. How she knew that she wasn't entirely sure, but that did not matter now.
She took a step back and a another before she took a flying leaping to start off her jumping. She hoped she would be able to get far just like in her first jump, but she had a feeling her luck might run out.

One watched in horror as Bones, Bones, fell into the abyss. Not Bones, not the person she'd come to respect and think of somewhat as a friend. Not him.
She eyed the rock farther below her and decided maybe trying to jump to that wasn't a good idea. One of them had to survive after all. She picked herself up from her seat and moved around the row of rocks in front of her, passing it.
There wasn't a way she'd win this, but she was still here, still pulling strong for the team.
What was left of it anyway.

Zetas were falling. Bones and 12, both lost to the abyss. At this rate she was going to end up all alone. Zeta nine felt sick, her shaky legs starting again. Shutting her eyes, she took a deep breath and tried to calm herself. She was so close to the end. With weak knees she opened her eyes and jumped.

Even with shaky knees, Z9 flew over the large gap and hopped towards the pendant. Victory was so close she could taste it. She had come so far when others had fallen. Her self doubt was waning away slowly but surely. Maybe, just maybe she could make it on this island.
She her reached the other side. Her heart sunk as she saw a Theta also at the end. What happened now?

He had taken his eyes off Eta III for a minute. Just for that one minute.
Eta II was at a loss for words. He felt shocked, angry, perhaps a little apologetic towards Delta 12 before but that didn't matter anymore. He wished he could have done something, anything. To watch Eta III plunge into the chasm, this time with nothing to break the fall - Eta II was torn. He was mad, mad mad mad and upset. And now he was alone.
"Sorry"
It was a whisper, but Eta II was sure he heard it. He didn't know what to make of it. Turning around, it seemed as though Delta 12 had tried to stop Eta III from falling too. The new wave of emotion that swept over him left Eta II stunned as he watched Delta 12 continue onwards.
Eta II remained on the island for a while, crouched down, staring into the pitch black abyss. He tried to make out what was down there. Perhaps it wasn't the end, maybe Eta III could still be alive. Eta II was grasping on to every hope that somehow, he would see Eta III standing next to him again. Yet the abyss answered him with nothingness.
Eta II got up to his feet, burning with determination. It was time to move on. For the sake of himself. For Eta III. Nothing seemed to daunt him now, as Eta II leapt onto the next island without so much as measuring his step.

A wider gap had appeared between the current island and the next. Putting more spring into his step, Eta II cleared the distance easily, moving forward.

Zeta Nine was the first to reach solid ground on the other side of the chasm. The hooded figure gave her an appraising look. After a moment, he turned back to watch those still struggling. Others were very close now. "Congratulations," the figure said to Z9. "A very impressive display of athletic ability and luck. Unfortunately, the awards ceremony can't take place until the game is over." Speaking of the game, it seemed things were about to take a turn for the more interesting. On their last set of jumps, each remaining player would have found one fist-sized rock - debris from the moving islands. Thanks to the new positioning and levels, every other player on the islands was in throwing distance. Now, what would they do? (( SUDDEN DEATH STAGE! Every remaining player on an island has a rock. Throw it by rolling a ten-sided dice. You can aim at any other player - even those who seem far away are simply a level above or below you. - You must throw your rock. No sitting out this stage. - You can choose to attack someone or protect someone (by knocking someone else's rock askew). - Z9 cannot be targeted, and does not have a rock. Diseased, you can either not post during this end-stage event, or you can do a reaction post to being safe and/or watching what the others do. D12 and E2, you also have the option of making a second post to push each other. That one isn't mandatory, though. This is probably the last 'event' before most of you reach safety, so have fun! ))

She had won. She had really actually won. She nodded to the hooded figure as he congratulated her and then surveyed the others. Well, she sure was glad she didnt have to do this. Mandatory attacking or protecting. Should have seen it coming really; all the challenges they had been faced with so far seemed to involve it. Nine relaxed a bit and watched, curious to see just what people would do.

Eta II had reached the last island for his turn. It took him a short while to realise that he was sharing an island with Delta 12 again. He had a little time for the shock to dissipate, and by then he felt that apologies and thanks were in accord.
"I-I must apologise" he began, "for two things."
He paused, staring at Delta 12, not sure if he or she was going to punch him and throw him off the island.
"For threatening your safety twice - once when I tried to save my friend and caused the island to crumble away, the other for crashing into you then in the midst of saving myself"
".....and I thank you for trying to save my friend....."
Eta II certainly could not push Delta 12 off now, though he understood that Delta 12 had a damn fine reason to send him flying into the chasm to join Eta III.
A rock from the crumbling islands had fallen into Eta II's hands, who paid little attention to it. Why he was holding on to it, he did not know. What the hell, he thought, as he lobbed it into the air in a random direction. He didn't know that random direction would mean "sailing towards Zeta 1".
(( OOC: OTL IDK, so sorry to Zeta 1 ahhhhh
Also Question! : Does protecting someone include protecting yourself by throwing your rock at the incoming rock? ))
