"Y'never know how much they see... I mean, if they have cameras all over, they could be watching us right now." He stopped, then overexaggeratedly shook, "That's just a new level of creepy."

Then about the dancing comment, "Indeed, being something that couldn't dance would suck. At least snakes can sort of dance. Y'know, snake charmers and such." He gave Avery a quick glance, "Naw, I can't picture you all scaley and limbless." Rex chuckled, the mental picture was pretty amusing.

"If you were physically forced to stay here to change with no chance of escape, but you were able to decide the animal you changed into, what would it be? I think I'd be some kind of water mammal, like a sea lion or something. Those guys can ride waves like no other."
PostPosted: Sat Mar 11, 2006 1:11 am

Avery looked at him, wide-eyed and horrified. "I can't imagine myself scaly and limbless, either... and I don't want to." He shuddered again. "If I had to pick? Any animal I wanted... maybe a bird, so I could fly the hell out of here," he chuckled. "Something colorful. Like... a peacock!" Avery laughed just thinking about it.

"A peacock? That'd be pretty interesting. I can just picture you now with all those funky feathers sprouting from your butt!" Rex laughed, "But as far as colorful goes? I can imagine a macaw or some kind of tropical bird as well." Rex leaned back on the bed, legs still touching the floor but otherwise completely sprawled out.

"Mmm, flying would be alot of fun. I've met alot of changed people, but birds yet, have you?" Maybe they were going to be the first birds on the island, Rex could already feel the wind beneath his win- err.. arms.
PostPosted: Sat Mar 11, 2006 1:26 am

"Nah, I haven't met any birds either... I guess the doctors would think of that, though, wouldn't they? So no one could fly off..." Avery leaned back on the bed, leaning back on his arms. Of course, thinking about the doctors made him realize...

"Do you think the doctors would have realized that sea animals could swim off the island..? I mean, if they're smart enough to turn people into animals..."

Rex too, propped himself up on his arms similar to Avery, but then rolled onto his side and held his head up with one arm. "Yeah... if there aren't any birds that we know of... I don't know, it seems a little sketchy though. I mean, could something that simple be their fatal flaw?" Rex hushed his voice as though telling a secret that people shouldn't be hearing. "...And if they've been watching us, why haven't they done anything to stop us from this whole escape thing?" He sighed, then looked back up to Avery, "I dunno, I feel like it could be too easy..." he trailed off on the end, feelings scrambling to something to hold onto and give him confidence in their plan again.
PostPosted: Sat Mar 11, 2006 1:47 am

"Yeah..." Avery's hope for getting off the island was slowly fading. He moved his elbows out from under himself, flopping back completely onto his bed and staring up at his ceiling. Cameras everywhere... probably even in this room. Watching us talk. There's no way they couldn't know about their plan...

Avery looked at Rex. "I saw Colche transform, you know," he whispered. "It was... terrible... it looked so painful."

Rex had begun to lose his hope as well. The worst part was he wished he cared more. He knew a life back at home would just continue to be boring and bland, but staying here was exciting, even though he knew it was better to leave.

He rolled over onto his stomach and looked at the other man, "You saw Colche change? Was it that morning after we found Ambrose's camp? I went off for an early walk, but headed back to the camp when I heard a loud scream. Then..." the memory of Amaya running through the jungle was still vivid in his mind, "then I saw Amaya. I chased her for a bit but she didn't turn back, I only caught up to her after she tripped. She was changing as well... it was awful." Rex remembered her skin peel off in flakes and her dark hair fall from her scalp, then the look on her face when she passed out. "The poor girl is cold blooded, she collapsed in the mud and I carried her back to camp." he shuddered, Rex hadn't spoken with her since they'd come back the morning after. He should check on her sometime soon.
PostPosted: Sat Mar 11, 2006 2:11 am

"Yeah, it was... that was probably her that you heard scream. She seemed to be in so much pain..." Avery didn't like to think about it. Still, he was glad that he had been there. It would have been so much worse for Colche if he hadn't been there for comfort her after it was over. Avery didn't think he would want to be alone during his transformations, either, if he were to have them.

"So you saw someone change too, huh... Amaya... she had scales, right?"

Going through such an excruciating pain such as changing seemed like it would be an awful experience to go through alone. However, Rex had learned that from pain came strength. If he did end up changing by himself, that would be rock bottom. But from the lowest point possible, the only way to go is up. Maybe this animal change would be the best thing to happen to him since his dad sent him away. "We'll get through it." He stated simply.

"Yeah, the one from the day we washed up. She's a tough little girl... turning into some kind of lizard, her tail is massive!"
PostPosted: Sat Mar 11, 2006 2:29 am

"That must suck... I wouldn't want to turn into anything scaly." No, Avery definitely would prefer feathers or fur over scales. At least then he would still be cuddly.

Avery sat up then. "I'm feeling kind of hungry... I think I'm going to go grab something eat now," he said. He was glad he was able to say things like that now... and not be wondering when the next time they'd be able to find food was. Yes, Avery liked civilization much more than living in the wild. "Did you already eat?"

"Oh, I already ate a late berakfast. I actually just came from it!" He chuckled, sitting up and patting his belly. "Food is good, but I tihnk I'm going to go take a shower." He stood up off of Avery's bed and pulled the sheet's tight so things looked tidy, then headed for the door. "I'll catch you around, though. Thanks for talking things over with me."

He made his way out the door and down the stairs, then across the way to his own room, going straight to the bathroom to take a shower.

"Okay, then. I'll see you later, Rex!" Avery smiled and watched Rex leave, then he stood up and left too, heading off toward the cafeteria.

There was a sharp knock at Avery's door. To anyone else that has ever heard Awen's knock this ws nothing like her polite tappings. This was something fueled, something feiry, something ....angry.

But without waiting for a reply a small piece of paper was slipped under the door of the duplex.

Quote:
It's time. I'm not waiting anymore. Once I'm gone please tell everybody. Especially Chubbs and Jamal.... I'm heading off the beach by the beach bar, just to give you an indication.

Bye Avery,

Awen

P.S. Wish me luck.

And with that the blue haired girl was gone. Off to Rex's duplex to drop a similar note.

Rex Vadnais
The shower felt good, but now Rex's stomach moaned and groaned for food. Changing ruthlessly took alot out of you. So Rex made the journey to the cafeteria that morning, his mind and mouth drooling for some breakfast.

Rex went to the bar and absently got a rare steak when it hit him. So that's why I've been eating so much meat. He shook his head and sat his plate down at a free table, then went to get his silverware and condements. He really had been doomed here from the start.

Avery Calder
After a nice hot shower that morning, Avery decided to go get some breakfast and see if he could find any of the friends he had made on the island so far. He paused at the door when he noticed a paper laying on the floor that had been pushed underneath the door. Avery picked it up and read it. So... Awen left... who are Chubbs and Jamal? I guess I'll have to ask around today so I can pass on the message...

Avery made his way to the cafeteria, and he noticed Rex as soon as he was inside. "Hey, Rex!" he walked over to him. He didn't notice the changes at first. They were too minor to be noticed right away... he stopped when he got to Rex's table, and raised his eyebrows at him. "Wow, what happened - forget to shave this morning?" he chuckled.

Rex Vadnais
Rex took his seat (wary of his tail) and was just about to pray when he heard his name, Avery. Rex was unsure as to how Avery would react when he found out Rex had permanently joined the ranks of the islanders, and he appeared to be in such a good mood too! "Good morning, Avery!"

He chuckled a little at the shaving comment, but figured it was best just to tell him outright. "Heh, do I really look that bad? Avery," he paused, rubbing his beard while trying to find the best way to break the news. But his mouth just blurted, "I changed." He fiddled with his fork, scratching the surface of his meat slab longingly. He hated to put a damper on a fresh morning.

Avery Calder
Avery smile fell when Rex said he changed. Surely, he meant something else, other than... that. But no, what else could it be? Avery couldn't help but notice the sharp claws in place of nails on Rex's hands, now, when Rex rubbed his beard. "You..."

Avery didn't know what to say.

He sat down heavily in the seat across from Rex, staring at him. He couldn't believe it. This must mean he was going to change, too... but when? And into what..?

"I'm... so sorry," he whispered, tears filling his eyes. "You wouldn't be here if it weren't for me. This is my fault... I'm really sorry..."

Rex Vadnais
Rex smiled, trying to get across that it wasn't that bad. Rex liked it...

He saw the tears well up in Avery's eyes and Rex got out of his seat, running to the other side of the long tablet, quickly. He pulled up the seat next to the boy and threw a paw on across his shoulder. "No no! Don't appologize!" He'd cried several times all ready that morning and wasn't sure he had any more tears in him to pour from his outlined eyes. "It's not your fault, trust me, it's reall not your fault." He rubbed Avery's back affectionately, trying to comfort him.

How could he make it seem better? "But hey! It's a cool animal, really! We think that it could be a lion!" Showing Avery his tail to proove it may have been a bit much for the guy at that moment, so he decided to hold off showing the details until he knew Avery was in better control of himself. Instead he smiled, pulling his plate over to his side from across the table.

William Woodrow
It was such a nice morning, Billy reflected as he sauntered into the cafeteria. He had already had his... 'breakfast', but figured he should get something to eat. For some reason, lately, he'd been starving for seafood. Fish for breakfast? The tables were fairly empty, save for two islanders he hadn't met yet sitting off to the side. After examining the food they had to offer, he was suprised at how the clam bar seemed so... appetizing, even at this time of day. He helped himself to a stack of sushi and other various fishy products befor sauntering towards the two at the table.

The one with the long blonde hair and blue tips caught his eye first. A little masculan, but definatly one fine lassy. He set his tray down and slipped into a seat without so much of a word asking for permission, grinning widely at the handsome young woman, "I don' think we've met!" He beamed at the both of them.

Avery Calder
"Of course it's my fault! If those guys didn't want to kick my a**... if I hadn't fallen over board... then I wouldn't have needed help, so you wouldn't have jumped overboard too..." Avery sniffed miserably. He felt like he cried at least once every day since he got on this damned island. It was embarrassing - everyone was going to think he was a sissy.

Which, he kind of was... but he didn't want everyone thinking that.

Avery looked up when someone else approached the table he and Rex were sitting at. Oh, great - Avery was making another bad first impression. He rubbed his eyes, trying to stop crying. "Um... hello," he said. "I'm Avery..."

Rex Vadnais
"No.." Rex thought, thinking back to all of the islanders he'd met so far, "I don't think that we have." He took his hand from Avery's back and motioned to the seat he was sitting in moments before. "I'm Rex." He smiled friendlily, extending a hand in greeting.

He turned his attention back to Avery, holding back his sobs, "Don't tell yourself that, you even said yourself that it started with those guys, not you." He bowed his head and rubbed his cross necklace in silent prayer, then tucked the gold chain back in his shirt and began to cut his steak.

William Woodrow
Billy eyed the gold as he lifted a piece of fish to his mouth, grinning as he chewed, "Havin' some trouble are we?" He snickered. "An' wha's a pretty lass li' yerself findin' trouble fer?" He leaned in towards Avery with a sly look.

Avery Calder
Avery calmed down enough to stop his crying, and he borrowed one of Rex's napkins to dry his eyes. "I guess... but..." Avery trailed off, and shrugged. He didn't want to talk about what happened on the boat in front of this new comer. He didn't know what they were like.

Did he just call me a pretty lass!? Avery thought, looking up at Billy. "Um, just some people I ran into on a cruise liner... I don't really want to talk about it, though," he mumbled.

Rex Vadnais
He figured that this other strange man had all ready been introduced to the freakish things that happened on this island, or he was just really unobservant and didn't notice Rex's fangs and fur... or his handshake. Rex pulled his hand back and continued to mangle his steak when he realized the other person didn't say his name, "What was your name?" Man, he must be out of it..

Rex nearly choked on his breakfast when Billy called Avery a lass, but he was stupid enough to have made the same mistake back when they washed up. But he just chewed and smiled inwardly, "Yeah... I just changed a few hours ago and... well, it's rough." This new guy did know about the transformations... right?

William Woodrow
"Tha's nice," Billy didn't seem interested in what the newly changed Rex had to say, eyes locked on Avery with a malicious glint and a questionable grin, undoubtably thinking about what he imagined under Avery's shirt. "Aww, Some men don' know how t'treat a lady."

Avery Calder
Avery tried not to laugh. This certainly wasn't the first time someone has mistaken him for a girl... now to decide how to handle it; tell him the truth, or let him think he was a girl for a while longer? He eyed the new guy, wondering if he could take a joke or not. After all, he didn't want a repeat incident from what happened on the ship...

"Uhm... I hate to break it to you, but... I'm no 'lady'," he grinned.

Rex Vadnais
Rex chewed his steak in silence, a smile curling at his lips. This fellow was paying zero attention to him and hitting on Avery! Rex didn't even care that the guy was shutting him out, this moment was just too priceless.

William Woodrow
Billy's grin widened playfully, "Oh? Naughty gel, are we?" He snickered cluelessly.

Avery Calder
Avery couldn't help himself now. This was too much fun, and far too amusing. Even if this guy was a bit... sleazy looking. "Oh, yeah, real naughty alright. I bet you'd like to have a peek down my shirt, huh?" Avery leered at him. Don't laugh... don't laugh...

Rex Vadnais
Rex was biting his tounge so hard trying to hold back his laughter, though he doubted Billy even noticed he was laughing. Rex wouldn't be surprised if his tounge was bleeding from his big, sharp new teeth, but he had to let Avery have his fun. This was going to be funny.

William Woodrow
"Oooh, frisky are we?" Billy snickered, reaching forward to cast a good grope, but frowned when his hand felt nothing. Flat. "No' very well endowed are we?"

Avery Calder
Avery laughed, then. He thought this guy would realize after he groped him... but apparently not. Avery wondered how long he could keep this little game up. "Nope, but I've got the skills to make up for it," he winked at him. "So what's your name, baby?"

Rex Vadnais
Oh.. my.. gosh.. this guy is absolutely clueless! Rex ate his breakfast without saying a word, hoping the chewing would supress his smile. He decided to get in on the fun, "Yeah, she sure does." Rex winked at the stranger then knocked his towards Avery, gesturing for him to go for it, then took another bite of steak.

William Woodrow
"Oh aye?" Billy was feeling uneasy. There must have been something he was missing, but he couldn't put his finger on it. He blamed the drugs. "Maybe ye'll have t'show me sometime," He winked, leaning back to munch on his sushi breakfast.

Avery Calder
"Mmm... we'll see," Avery said, licking his lips suggestively. "For now, though, I think I'm going to eat breakfast." He stood up and walked over to the bar, making sure to put a little sway to his hips. When he stopped at the bar, he had to cover his mouth to muffle his snickering. Oh my god... I am going to have so much fun with this.

Unlike Billy and Rex, he helped himself to a more traditional breakfast; pancakes, eggs, some sausage, and a glass of orange juice. He grabbed some silverware and some napkins before coming back to the table, sitting back down next to Rex. "So," Avery began, looking at Billy. "You still haven't mentioned your name..."

Rex Vadnais
Rex continued to giggle away without making a commotion. Noticing the extra swagger in Avery's step. He just shook his head and looked down to his plate, how long would this last?!

Popping another bite in his mouth, Rex swallowed and noticed Billy's odd choice of food. Ahh.. another fish? Maybe an eagle? Or maybe he just had an odd taste of breakfast food. Rex could relate, he'd had pizza for breakfast more than once. But instead of bringing up animals, Rex tagged onto Avery, "Yeah, you never answered me before."

William Woodrow
"Th'names William," He leaned back in his chair, eating the fish off of the rice, "Friends call me Billy." He gave another clueless grin. Ah well, at least these folks weren't shreading his skin or kicking him in tender places.

Avery Calder
"Oh, you won't mind if I call you Billy then, do you?" Avery smiled sweetly before he started cutting up his pancakes. He cast a glance at Rex, hiding a grin as he took a bite.

Rex Vadnais
Rex caught the glance and almost burst out laughing, but held it in by biting his tounge even harder. This was just too rediculous...

William Woodrow
"Brilliant," Billy grinned, finishing up his meal, "Avery... an'... Ron was it?" He glanced to Rex, as though aknowladging him for the first time.

Avery Calder
This guy sure is something else... "So how long have you been on this island?" Avery asked, only just now noticing that Billy had no appearance of being changed... yet. He'd been too caught up in teasing the guy to think about it.

Rex Vadnais
"Rex." He repeated firmly so it stuck in Billy's mind. Though judging by how much attention he'd paid to Rex, he doubted it would stick. Normally, people didn't have trouble with his name because of it's bold connotation. But he understood if people got it wrong, it was a little obscure. But then it dawned on him, he hadn't told anyone here on the island his real name yet. Rex was a fine name and he hadn't had any purpose to tell them his birthname, but he still felt like he was keeping a secret from the people he'd be spending his life with... or at least until Awen made it to shore.

William Woodrow
"Ach, jes' a few days," Billy didn't think it was important to share exactly *why* he was there. Somehow, that didn't seem like a good way to make friends. He beamed at the two of them in a friendly manner, "How abou' you two?"

Avery Calder
Avery glanced nervously at Rex. Does he know about the island..? Avery knew that he didn't want to be the one to break the news to Billy, so he kept quiet about that. "I'm not really sure, actually..." he murmured. "It's been a while, though. It feels like forever."

Rex Vadnais
Rex was troubled by Billy's answer as well. There he was, sitting before a lion-man, yet didn't drop a single hint as to whether he'd known about the purpose of this prison. Maybe Rex's changes weren't as drastic as they'd been in the mirror earlier that morning.

Rex glanced back to Avery warily, then added to the conversation. "Yeah, we've only been here a few weeks. But it doesn't look like we're going to be leaving any time soon..." He trailed off on the end, hoping this would usher some information out of the mysterious man.

William Woodrow
"Oh? Wha' makes y'think tha'?" He grinned. The two didn't look like refugees to him. The boy, Rex, was a bit peculiar looking, yes, but he tried not to be judgemental.

Avery Calder
"Well..." Avery bit his lip. "It's just, we've met other islanders who have been here for months... even though they don't want to stay. No one is allowed off the island... we're all stuck."

Rex Vadnais
Rex nodded in confirmation of Avery's point. Like Amaya... Outside his duplex that morning she'd said she'd been here for seven months. Rex looked at his ex-hand, now paw, and wondered how long it would be until he, too, looked as far along as the poor girl.

Avery did a good job manipulating his words to let Billy down easily since he seemed to be new to the island, "Yeah.. theres.. theres no way off. The doctors won't let you leave, for, well, obvious reason." Obvious to everyone but you, aparently.

William Woodrow
"Ach, well, aint tha'a shame? Stuck in a tropical paridise wit' free room an' board an' food," Billy snickered, his meal done. He sniffed nerviously, starting to get antsy. Another little sniff would do it. Get his buzz back. His thoughts were locked on the stash hidden away safe in his room.

Avery Calder
Avery decided to decline to comment on Billy's remark, instead working on finishing his breakfast. "Anyway," he said, wanting to change the subject. "There are some people I need to talk to today... so, I think I'll be heading out." Avery stood up, taking care of his plate and silverware. "I'll see you later Rex," he smiled, and then looked at Billy, playing the game again. "And... I do hope I'll see you later, as well." He blew a kiss to Billy before sauntering out of the cafeteria.

Once he was near the duplexes again and well out of earshot from the cafeteria, he could no longer hold back and nearly fell over with laughter.

Rex Vadnais
Nice timing, Rex munched on the last piece of steak savagely, "I may as well be off, too." He stood up with his plate and headed towards the kitchen. But first he walked especially close to the seated Billy, hitting him "accidently" with his tail to see if he noticed.

He almost died of a giggle-fit in the kitchen, trying to make it as quiet as possible. The game had become too much to bear, and Avery played the part amazingly. "Catch y'later, Billy." And with that, left the cafeteria as well.

William Woodrow
Billy swatted the tail away. More bloody stupid costumes. Ah well, he was finished eating as well. And was getting... peckish in other ways. He sniffed again, depositing his tray befor swaggering back in the direction of his duplex.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.R o l e - P l a y _____________/ In which Avery finds out the escape plan failed.

Awen Zyn
Awen had dragged out the chair from her duplex and was sitting on her front step. It was a nice day and didn't think spending the day indoors was all that nice of an option. But she couldn't yet go swimming because the IV was still attached to her arm. Aubrey said she'd be by in a few days to take it off. So...how long was a few days anyway?

Awen sighed softly sitting on the chair, leaning it back on two legs as she rocked back and forth. Her webbed fingers were on either side of her sleek PSP.

Chana Cohen
It was a beautiful day, and Chana had decide she needed to get out of the house - er, duplex. She was wandering towards the village in hopes of finding something to occupy herself with, when she noticed somone outside one of the nearer duplexes.

Curious, she veered over to see who it was. To her surprise, the girl seemed to be one of the people she'd seen sleeping in Joliette's camp.

To her horror, the girl had an IV pole with her.

"Hello!" Chana called out decisively, coming over to Awen.

Awen Zyn
Awen glanced up from her game and blinked. to her knowledge she'd never seen this girl before. Then again she was still feeling a little groggy and could be mistaken. Whoever it was the girl had obviously... been here awhile. Which was good. Awen was getting just a little sick of the looks of shock and horror she had been getting lately.

"Hi there!" Despite the critical thinking that was turning in Awen's head her voice was rather cheery when she called back to the girl.

Chana Cohen
The girl was definitely...erm...farther along than she had been when Chana saw her. And...the arms were definitely a bit strange. But, overall, just another islander.

"I'm Chana," she introduced herself. "I saw you once before, but you were sleeping in Joliette's camp," she explained, a little sheepishly. It was the way she felt when talking to most people these days, though she couldn't really say why. Maybe she just felt she should know more people by now. It had been what, three or four months?

Awen Zyn
"Oh! So you're that umm...Chana girl that Joli told me about? The one with the raft?" She tilted her head a little bit to confirm the suspision. "Haven't seen you around before. Um..have a seat..."

She stood up slowly offering her chair to the girl. "I'll get the other one from inside." She started to moved inside but her Iv was being difficult fitting into the duplex..again. "Er... or..." She turned with ehr own sheepish look. "Maybe you could..just go in and get the other chair?"

She shook her head a little bit. "Think I gotta order some lawn chairs or something." she mumbled to herself.

Chana Cohen
"Yeah...my poor raft that I never saw again," she admitted cheerfully enough. Then the girl started getting up to get another chair. Thankfully, she wasn't being stubborn about it.

"Of course I'll get it!" Chana exclaimed, suiting actions to words and popping back out a minute later with the aforementioned chair.

"Lawn chairs might be a good idea," she agreed, settling into her seat. "Do you mind if I ask how..." she trailed off, gesturing at the IV.

Awen Zyn
"Thanks a lot." Awen smiled and sat back down in the chair she managed to haul out earlier. She set the game down on the ground beside her though to get it out of the way.

She glanced to the IV and sighed looked back to Chana with a weak smile. "I tried to swim off the island..." She held up a hand quickly incase the girl thought the staff did something to her to cause the IVness. "Um well appearently I'm not engenireed for ocean swimming..." She tapped the clear bag a few times. "I'm not sure what this stuff is... Aubrey gave it to me after saving my life... clearing out my system I suppose?"

Chana Cohen
Chana's eyes grew wide as Awen described her deceptively simple escape plan and how it had...well...not worked out. When she mentioned she wasn't engineered for ocean swimming, the beaver girl grew thoughtful and tried to think what the other looked like.

She gave up when it came time to reply. "Could be," she responded. "At least you're alive to tell the tale," she added, smiling.

There was also the fact that she couldn't remember what Joliette had said this girl's name was. No...wait, it had been that Joliette had said two names, and Chana couldn't remember which name went with which girl. This was either Amaya or Awen, that much she knew.

Awen Zyn
"Yeah I'm pretty lucky Aubrey came to save me." Her smiled wavered a little bit as she thought mroe about it. But Aubrey almost wasn't there to save her, Jamal almost killed her.

This whole caged tiger bit was really bugging Awen. She didn't want to leave him, but what could she say, how could she stay with him like that? He deserved a punishment.... regardless of factors he was going to kill someone, intentionally! But to be caged for all to see.

The convorsation with Sabin the day before really twisted in Awen's gut uncomfortably. She couldn't think of a single alternative... so how could she criticise really?

She shook her head and smiled a little bit. "I know I'm not going to go swimming in salt again though..." She raised an eyebrow at the girl. What could her animal be...? Awen had a slight hunch, but Chana wasn't far enough along to reall give it all away. "So...er.. know what you are yet?"

Chana Cohen
Chana nodded. The girl seemed as distracted as she was. She also remembered that she'd met Amaya before she saw her at Joliette's camp...the memory seemed connected with her blacking out. So this was Awen then.

Chana grimaced at the question, overlarge buck teeth showing clearly. "A beaver. So I guess I'll be joinging you in the fresh water. Maybe we'll do a buddy system," she joked half-heartedly. The flat tail that she kept tucked into her pants twitched slightly, as uncomfortable as she was now.

Awen Zyn
"Aha! I thought so." She grinned a bit and chuckled to herself. "I figured it's what you were...but other kinds of creatures have large teeth so I wasn't completely sure." Being Canadian Awen could definately understand Moreau's choice of animal. Or at least appreciate it.

But it gave her pause to think about Chana's words about not going in the salt water. "I don't think you'll have a problem.... It's my gills that give me hastle." She nodded slowly. "So you shouldn't have trouble."

Avery Calder
Avery decided that he should go find the people Awen asked him to talk to in the note she had left him. He hoped the girl was doing alright...

He left his duplex, heading to the cafeteria first to see if anyone was there. Upon arriving at the Town Hall, however, Avery spotted the housing chart and looked up where Chubbs and Jamal were staying. He headed back to the duplexes and, after receiving no answer when he knocked on Jamal's door, he started towards Chubbs duplex.

On his way, however, he spotted two people sitting outside of a duplex. One of them he didn't recognize, but the other... it was Awen, and she was hooked up to an IV!? Avery jogged over to the two, a worried look on his face. "Awen!? What happened!?"

Chana Cohen
"Gills?" Chana asked, still unsure what Awen was turning into. She was about to comment on beavers and freshwater when she heard the young man call out. She looked up to see a young, very human man coming towards them. The beaver girl blinked. He looked like some strange surfer or snowboarder.

Clearly, he knew Awen. And what had happened was Awen's story to tell. So she just sat quietly, watching him. He must know what to expect in the near future, if he was a friend of the younger girl...so he probably wouldn't be staring at her. A nice thing to know.

Awen Zyn
"Hey Avery..." Awen smiled a little bit as she stood up politely as the blond approached. She wasn't quite glad to see Avery but also glad. The sooner she saw him the sooner her failure would come, disappointment to him. She couldn't help but laugh a bit. "Didn't you get my note?"

Letting that sink in a moment she glanced back to Chana. "Yeah gills." She tilted her head to the side to show the beaver the gills running along the sides of her neck. "Manta rays are salt water creatures...." She started explaining to her then looked up at Avery to explain it to the both of them. "So I figured I could swim off the island. I could swim in the lake and rivers no problem after all, I might be able to get help. But we were right to think Moreau planned for such an event.... I can't go in salt water. Well... I can... but I get really naucious and can't breathe that well from the gills. I didn't know this when I went out. Got a few mouthfuls of water into my lungs...barely made it back to shore."

She sat back down slowly and looked up at Avery some tears in her eyes. "I'm so sorry.... I wanted to.... I tried to get you off man....I'm...sorry..."

Avery Calder
"Yeah, I got your note..." Avery replied, and he listened as Awen explained what happened. He was, honestly, disappointed she wasn't able to make it - but that was to be expected. If Avery had any way of knowing that this would happen to her, though; he would have protested her trying to go. He didn't want her to get hurt trying to help them... but it seems that she had.

Besides... Rex already changed... that means he's next, right? Maybe it was better this way...

"Awen... it's okay, I know you did what you could..." Avery leaned down and hugged her gently, being mindful of the IV. "I'm just glad you're okay now. I'm sorry that happened... I didn't want you to get hurt trying to help us."

Chana Cohen
Chana nodded at Awen's explanation. That did explain things...somewhat. It also meant that whoever was...tinkering with their genes was taking special care to keep them here.

Not that Chana would think about escape. At least not physically. The next time she asked for something (a seder plate) she'd see if she could get some books to read as well. Or...wait...hadn't she had a conversation with someone who had books?

It wasn't that important right now. The human guy, Avery, seemed nice enough. "When did you get here?" she asked him, not wanting to be completely ignored.

Awen Zyn
Awen returned the hug softly and sighed. "Thanks... I'll be fine though. No big. Got a lesson out of it, and better to find out now, ya know? Before instincts got too bad."

Hearing the brunette speak up almost made Awen. Oh how rude of her. She gave the girl an apologetic smile. "Sorry..... Chana this is Avery, Avery Chana." She decided it was infront of her duplex and that made her host...which also ment she should do the introductions. Ease the social tension. But after that she would let Avery get on with his story of whens and probably whys.

Avery Calder
Avery turned to look at the other girl, pulling back from the hug with Awen. "Hey, sorry, didn't mean to ignore you like that... it's nice to meet you," he said, smiling a bit at her. "I got here a while ago, while everyone was locked out of the duplexes... fell overboard off a cruise liner and washed up here..."

Chana Cohen
"It's all right, and nice to meet you too. At least you've already seen people at their worst," she commented, referring to the fact that everyone had been suffering in their own way from the lack of civilization.

But Chana's mind was racing down a different track as well. He'd fallen overboard on a cruise? How far had he swum or been carried by the current? Just because Awen could swim out...there were plenty of others who might be able to...if it wasn't too far. She already knew she wasn't going to try escaping, but it never hurt to have all the relevant information. Just in case.

Awen Zyn
Awen shook her head solemly. "Don't be too sure Chana." It was after the power was restored that the worst came about in Awen's mind. Because now the staff were back, targets for angry islanders.

"Neither of you have been by the square yet huh?"

Avery Calder
Avery sat down on the ground near their chairs before replying to Chana. "Well, actually, the people I met have all been really nice... so, I guess I have yet to see anyone at their worst," he smiled, and then looked up at Awen. "The square? No, I haven't... why, what's there?

Chana Cohen
A bit of old pain showed briefly in Chana's eyes. "Lucky you," she told Avery.

"The square? Not for a couple of days, but I was heading that way...why?" she asked Awen, curious, but now anxious and unsure. The way she said it...it wasn't very promising. And the anxiety behind everything was starting to rise again.

Awen Zyn
She sighed a little bit. "I didn't think so..." She shifted her weight a little bit in her chair. "Jamal's there... in a cage." She bit her lip. She would have to explain why, they would ask anyway. "He tried to kill Aubrey." She said in a very small voice. "This is his punishment..."

Avery Calder
Avery frowned a bit, looking surprised. He had no idea who Jamal was... and he hasn't met Aubrey, but he remembered Colche talking about her. But what was so terrible about that? Shouldn't people who try to kill other people be locked up? That seemed perfectly reasonable to Avery. "Um... sorry, I don't really see the problem there... but I don't know who Jamal or Aubrey are... so..."

Chana Cohen
Chana had heard Aubrey's name before...once or twice in passing...but not enough to know who the woman was. But she did know Jamal.

"He tried to kill somebody!? Why? How could he be so stupid!?" she exclaimed, completely shocked. The first time she'd met him, he'd turned out to be so intelligent and reasonable...she couldn't see the rash actions with that man...

...but what about the man who was more animal, the one who'd led her back to the village after the power had come on? Sadly, she thought she could see that new Jamal doing something so foolish. But she didn't want to mention that.

Awen Zyn
She couldn't really answer Chana's question. An old saying came to mind though 'once you've killed once it gets easier every time'. But she wasn't sure if that was just Hollywood's saying or something real. But she had to respond to Avery's question.

"Maybe so. But putting him in a cage in the middle of the square for everyone to see... It's like... something you'd see in a zoo. It's really an insult to all of us honestly. If a punishment had been administered... if he had been locked up somewhere in hte labs or something I could deal with that. But not out like that...."

Her hand balled into a fist. Despite the talks with Sabin she still had some qualms. "It's their own fault anyway. Putting such a vicious animal in him like that, leaving us out in the wild on purpose." She glanced up. "We were safe the entire time, appearently. If things got out of hand we got medical supplies and... food secretly supplied and stuff. They shouldn't have seen this coming."

Avery Calder
Avery nodded a little... she did have a point there. "Yeah, I guess you're right... but, well - I can't say I'm really surprised. My impression of these... doctors... isn't really a good one. They seem like sick, twisted assholes who would enjoy putting people on display like that," he said bitterly. "So Jamal is another injected islander, huh? Then... is Aubrey a doctor, or..?"

Chana Cohen
Chana's eyes narrowed as Awen revealed that they had been "cared for" in some way the entire two months outside. Avery was right, these were sick, twisted people who had the lives of too many people in their hands. Who did they think they were, anyway? The Almighty? Apparently that or something close enough.

The flesh beneath her fur prickled along with her anger. Chana was reminded of numerous versions of "G-d helps those who help themselves." Her prayerbook had lain in the dust for too long.

"If you'll excuse me...I think I forgot something back at my duplex. I'll see you guys around," she said politely, forcing a smile for the sake of appearances before hurrying off towards her building.

Awen Zyn
"Um..." her gaze shot up to the beaver and smiled. "Alright. Um nice meeting you Chana. I hope to..see you again soon." She waved a little bit and sighed as she was walking away.

Gesturing for Avery to take the seat she had vacated she smiled grimly. "One thing after the other huh."

Avery Calder
"It was nice meeting you, Chana - see you later," Avery waved to her as she left. He glanced up at Awen before standing up, and taking a seat in the now empty chair. "Yeah," he sighed. "Speaking of that... I'm afraid I have more bad news, if you haven't heard yet..."

Avery took a deep breath. It was still hard for him to believe that it actually happened... "Rex changed."

Awen Zyn
Awen acknowledged the news with a little sound. She let it hang in the air a little bit before sighing. "Well.... if it's going to happen better get it over with sooner than later." She nodded slowly. "Not meaning to sound harsh or..I uncaring or anything. But it's worse if you don't change for a long time, so I've heard. The animal is more fierce...if Jamal is any kind of indicator anyway. Instincts hit hard..."

She leaned back a little bit. "What's he changing into...?"

Avery Calder
Of course, that just made Avery worry. He hadn't changed yet... so what was he going to change into? "He said he thinks he's changing into a lion... and he showed me his tail, too. It does kinda look like a lion tail... except... well, short." Talking about it made everything seem so... final. Avery didn't want to change, but if what Awen said is true... then he supposed he should hope to change soon.

Awen Zyn
Awen actually smiled at the thought of Rex changing into a lion. He never really seemed to mind the change either. He hadn't freaked out until Avery had started crying, and even then Rex seemed only to do so for Avery's sake. "It suits him though..." She said softly. "At least they gave him dignity like that."

She glanced over to Avery, she had been wondering what sort of animal they would turn him into. Awen hoped it wasn't anything vicious... this guy was too cute to be turned into something mean.

Avery Calder
Avery shrugged. He didn't see what was so dignified about changing into an animal. At least Rex didn't seem too bothered by it, though... so that was good. "Hey, I think I'm gonna go for a walk... I'll come by and visit you later, though, okay?" he said, offering a small smile. He was feeling kind of depressed, and he hated bringing other people down too when he felt that way.

He stood up and gave her a quick hug. "You take it easy," he said as he pulled back from the hug, then turned and headed back towards his own duplex.

Awen Zyn
She returned the hug quickly as it had started. "Bye Avery... try to cheer up. At least some. Enjoy the time you have, try not to think about it." It was horrible waiting and Awen knew. But...when he changed he would probably start adjusting better.

Everyone...or mostly everyone.. adjusted better after they change. They don't get it right away... even Awen hadn't until her second change. But.. maybe this place wasnt so bad.

The was no way out. There was no doubt of that in Awen's mind anymore. So why not just make the best of this place? It really was a good place...people would kill to get a life long vacation here. They should probably try to enjoy it.

Her stomach growled loudly and Awen stood up slowly. She couldn;t avoid it any longer she had to head back to the cafe. Grabbing the PSP and putting it back in her duplex she shut the door. She would return the chairs later.
