"That's awful," she murmured with feeling, directing a sad frown onto her bowl with a few bits of pasta left. She really wasn't hungry anymore, but she finished what was left while he was speaking. There wasn't much anyway. Her thoughts traveled back to his request as well before flitting to the failed attempt at carrying it out. She'd have to try again, but like she told him earlier, it would take time. Lots of time..
Her violet gaze focused on her company again, and she shifted a bit uncomfortably in her seat as he spoke. "How would she do that, and why?"

"She and Morrison worked together a lot, especially during the time that Lucas was seeing Jessica. Lucas noticed it as well - they trusted each other. The reason I was ordered to kill Morrison was because he had expressed an interesting in parting from Galactic, if you remember." He paused momentarily, lowering his voice instinctively when he spoke again, "Morrison wouldn't have told such a thing to just anyone. The higher-ups found out somehow, and it wasn't from hearsay." He shook his head. "It adds up, but to think that Elisa would do such a thing..."

At his mention of the mission to kill Morrison she nodded, eyes traveling down to look at her bowl again. Oh, it was empty now. She pushed her chair back and stood up, grabbing her bowl and, noticing that Luke's was also empty by now, she picked up his as well. She wandered to the sink with a distinct displeased look on her face at the information. Knowing what she did about Lucas, she couldn't help but bristle at the idea of one of his closest friends betraying them both. In that way she had killed one physically, and killed the other emotionally. This was unacceptable. "That's horrible." Her tone betrayed her emotions, which at this point contained mostly disdain and passive anger at the accused. No, it was unacceptable, she decided as she rinsed out her bowl rather more viciously than was necessary. She paused and looked down as a bit of water splashed out of and into the sink, bringing her back to her senses a bit. Luke's bowl had been placed next to the sink, but was otherwise untouched. "Did you want seconds?"

Something about Claire's tone was mildly aggravating, and Luke found himself defensive. "It's only my theory, and while it makes sense when put together, there's one thing that doesn't factor in at all--" Wha-- Seconds? "Ah, no, thank you..." Indignant rant completely derailed. When Luke resumed, it was in a much more level - though firm - voice, "Elisa was kind, incomparably so. She couldn't have-- She would never do such a thing. Not to Morrison, and not to Lucas. Just because it stacks up doesn't mean it's the only explanation."

Crap, and now she made him mad. Not that she was afraid of getting him mad, of course, he'd never do anything to her, she just.. didn't want him to be mad tonight. Arceus, why did things have to be sad? "I'm sorry," she relented, but her expression remained level. Theory or not to Luke, it was taken as pretty much fact to Claire. Not that she would admit it to Luke and never even mention such a thing to Lucas, not ever. "Maybe -- maybe someone else overheard, or something, and they went to the higher-ups." There, that was also plausible. She still couldn't help but think it was Elisa, though. Either way, with that said, she pulled Luke's dish into the sink and rinsed it as well before putting both of them and the forks into a dishwasher, then set about cleaning up the pots and putting the remainder of the food away.

"Mm. That's a possibility." The tech development rooms were fairly large and spread out, though, so it seemed unlikely that someone would have heard, not that he expected Morrison would divulge such sensitive information anywhere near anyone else... Damn it, all signs pointed to Elisa, but Luke refused to believe it. Not after she had been such a kind and gentle friend to Lucas for how long? Nearly twenty years? He couldn't accept such treachery...
He discarded all frustration with a sigh and moved towards the preparation area where Claire was cleaning up. "Something I can help with?"

By the time Luke joined her by the prep area she had put away all of the pasta, cooked or otherwise, and put the leftover sauce in the fridge. With a sigh she put the pasta pot into the dishwasher, then started rinsing out the sauce pan. "Not really, but thank you anyway." Pasta was easy to clean up as well as make, and for that she was grateful.
It didn't take long for her to finish rinsing it - she didn't want to be blamed if there was sauce permanently stuck to the sides of the bowls or pot from not rinsing it first - and she put it in the dishwasher as well with a small frown. Now that they were done, it became increasingly clear to her that she'd need to head to her own bedroom soon and get ready for bed. And say good-bye to Luke. ...crap. She wanted to, needed to think of something to talk about, but really couldn't think of anything anymore. Crap.

"Ah, all right. Time to head back, then?" He drew a deep breath and released it slowly, moving towards the exit.

"I suppose so," she murmured with a slow sigh, and joined him at the exit before opening the door so they could both leave the kitchen. Crap, she really needed to think of something to say.. "I'm sorry." Was that all she could think of? Crap, what else.. "For always having so many questions about Lucas, I mean. I just..." She sighed again and shrugged, not sure how to finish the sentence. Crap, this whole situation just sucked.

"How is that anything to apologize for?" An eyebrow was raised in a mixture of surprise and confusion. After all, Luke and Lucas shared the majority of their experiences. A question to one was essentially a question to the other. "...I've been able to discuss a number of things that I never have before because you posed the questions. If anything, I should thank you for that, not forgive you."

Her brows knit at the statement, and she reached a hand up to secure a lock of hair behind her ear. It wasn't falling forward and irritating her, she just had a subconscious desire to touch something, and right now that something was her hair. "Really?" Well, she'd never thought of it that way, so maybe it was a good thing...? It did help to talk about things, she'd always thought - though never always practiced due to not having many people to really talk to - apparently that was true for Luke, too. A small smile appeared on her face at that. "I'm glad I could help, then."

He nodded and proceeded through the halls in silence. Claire's room was closer than Lucas's, and Luke stopped beside the door. "I suppose this is where we part ways." His eyes rested on the door instead of on Claire, his gaze distant, pensive, even vaguely sorrowful.

Crap, was her room really that close to the kitchen? She hadn't even noticed. Her gaze was focused on the lower portion of the wall behind Luke and she leaned against the door with a small sigh. "I suppose so.." She bit her bottom lip slightly, trying to think of something, anything to say. "Try not to worry about Lucas too much," (as if he wouldn't) she said as she gently placed a hand on his shoulder, forcing her gaze on his face. "I'll see what I can do about getting him to talk more so he stops being so depressed." It would be nice if Lucas would smile because he wanted to, instead of smiling for the benefit of everyone else.

He gave another nod and a quiet sound of acknowledgement. "Thank you." A slight - very slight - trembling reached his fingers, which he promptly pulled into tight fists. Arceus, how had he always faced it so calmly in the past...? "Thank you..."

"You're welcome," she replied in a gentle tone. The trembling of his fingers completely escaped her notice, as did his hands when they clenched into fists, and a small, sad smile was on her face. "It'll be alright, don't worry. Everything will be okay." It was still so odd to see so much emotion from Luke - granted it wasn't much, but for him it was the most she'd ever seen.
