Justin felt a bit.....weird. Mostly confused, though. Rouge didn't like Knuckles, yet she was concerned for him. Didn't make much sense. Did Rouge still like him to some degree? He didn't get this at all, but all he knew was that Knuckles was hurt bad.

"What happened to him?" Tails asked.
"A metal and cement three-story building collapsed with him inside, on the first floor." Sonic said, crossing his arms. "He insisted that he stay in and search for anyone we might've missed, but almost as soon as we walked out it fell. If he isn't dead yet...." his voice trailed off.
"Even mutants can't survive everything." Tails bowed his head sadly.
Rouge kneeled beside Knuckles, stroking his head. "Don't die. Please don't die." she said softly, looking on the verge of tears.
Amy walked in, pulling Shadow like she had Sonic. "See! I told you!"
Shadow pulled his hand away from Amy. "I can walk fine on my own." he said, walking over.
Sonic looked at Shadow. "Deja vu, huh? Of course, instead of being crushed by a building, you fell from space and technically DID die."
Shadow nodded once, crossing his arms. "Idiot should have just gotten out of there. Now look at him."

Justin saw the tears in Rouge's eyes. Sure, Rouge made Knuckles out to be a cheating idiot, but it looked as if she still cared for him. If she still cared, he must be a good guy, in some way. He silently hoped for him to make it, if only to stop Rouge's tears. For some reason, seeing her cry made him feel real bad.

"Ughh...." Knuckles moved a bit. His eyes opened a bit. He blinked, sitting up. "Jesus God....What happened?" he mumbled, rubbing his temple.
Rouge wrapped her arms around his neck, pushing him back down. "Knuckles!" she said, letting tears fall.
Knuckles was obviously confused. "Um....?"
Sonic laughed. "Good to see you two getting along for once."
Tails smiled. "Told you he would make it."
"No you didn't. You said he'd-" Sonic began.
"I said he'd make it." Tails said, smiling.
Sonic shook his head, grinning.
"That was quick." Amy said happily.

Justin was still confused, but he simply smiled. He was happy that things worked out okay. Plus, he didn't want today to end with a funeral. He let out a sigh of relief, looking at Rouge and Knuckles.

Shadow looked at Justin. "You're not bothered by this, I see." he said quietly, so only Justin could hear.
"Anyone willing to explain what's going on here?" Knuckles asked, glancing around at them.
"Well, let's see...." Amy raised her hand, and touched as well as extended each finger as she counted them off. "First you, Sonic, and Rouge entered a burning building, then Sonic and Rouge come out and you aren't with them, then the structure collapses, then we get the idea you're dead, and then you wake up and Rouge hugs you."

Justin heard what Shadow said. He was a bit confused. Why would he be bothered by this? Sure, it made him feel a bit weird and confused, but why would it bother him? He didn't like Rouge in that way....or did he? DID he? All this repeated self questioning was making his brain hurt. He was sure he didn't. But, eh, who knows? Stranger things have happened. Right now, he was just glad this didn't end badly.

"Er....you can stop suffocating me now, Rouge." Knuckles said, gently pushing her off.
"See?! That's how I feel!" Sonic said, pointing at them.
"What do you mean?" Purred Amy, hugging his arm.
Shadow gazed at him for a few moments. "You don't have to reply. I was only curious, as all...." He then turned away, looking at Rouge and Knuckles.
Rouge wiped her eye. "You are SUCH a moron." she said, giving him a (mostly)light shove, smiling a little.

Justin sighed. He was happy things turned out well for the others, but he was so confused, now that Shadow brought up weird stuff in his brain with that question. Damn him for confusing the poor nerd! He then shook these cluttered thoughts from his brain, for the moment, looking at Tails. "Weird....weren't your parents supposed to show up earlier?" He asked.

Tails nodded. "What's even weirder is that usually they're always back exactly when they say they will be...." he said. His ears went flat against his head. "I hope they're okay."
Sonic pulled free from Amy, and kneeled beside Tails, giving him a pat on the back. "Ah, don't worry about it. I've met your parents, and they aren't people who go down easily."
Tails smiled a little. "Yeah, I guess."
Amy was staring at Rouge and Knuckles. "Um..guys?"
Sonic and Tails looked up. Their mouths fell open.
Knuckles and Rouge were kissing.

Justin's jaw DROPPED, just like everyone else's. This made NO sense! A near death experience was enough to get Rouge and Knuckles to make up!? Now, his brain was REALLY hurting! Well, not just his brain. Part of him was actually sad about this, for some reason he did not understand.

Ok, rather Rouge was kissing Knuckles. Knuckles seemed almost as clueless as everyone else, at the same time pleased.
"God, what is this, a love story? Hate, then near death experience, and now romance?!" Sonic clutched his head, looking deranged. "SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT JUST TOOK PLACE IN THIS TIMELINE!"
"I would, but I'm just about as lost as you...." Tails said, staring.
Amy sighed dreamily. "How romantic. They're even oblivious to us speaking about them." She put her hands together, delighted.
"Hmph. The fact that Knuckles' little episode with the other girl didn't get her pregnant helps them reunite." Shadow said in his usual quiet manner.
"Yeah. Of course, it would help if someone actually told me what he DID with the other girl-" Tails started saying.
"-Shut it." said Shadow, still remaining in his attitude but obviously trying to stay away from that subject.

Justin sighed. "At least things went well for them." He said, not fully able to shake the sudden vibe of disappointment he had. He was half happy for Rouge, half sad for himself. He was telling himself that this confusion would fade, but he himself didn't know for sure.

"He played video games with her. Happy?" Sonic said, lowering his hands to his sides.
"But....how does that make her mad at him....?"
Rouge pulled back.
Knuckles opened his eyes, still looking startled. "Ok....One, what the hell is going on, and two, are you wearing perfume, or do you just naturally smell that good?"
Rouge smiled slightly. "Let's just say you were forgiven for the time being." She stood. Knuckles sat up. They both noticed the others looking at them. "What?" they said.
"Nothing." muttered Tails.
"Not important." said Shadow.
"Say, the sky is really nice today, huh?" Sonic said, looking out the window.
"You two make such a nice couple." sighed Amy.

Justin looked down at the floor, still kinda stewing in confusion. Why did this turn of events make him feel bad at all? He should be happy for his new friend. Well, part of him was, but the other part was....angry? No, that wasn't it. Envious, maybe? But, why?
