Spider man just blinked back at the man for another beat, taking in the slightly different costume, the slightly different haircut, and the heavier build. Oh. Great. Then he shrugged one shoulder, the motion managing to look resigned. "Would you believe me if I said that I have absolutely no idea?" he asked frankly.

Octavious stared at him for a beat. Then he sighed, his metal arms dropping their defenses just a bit. "I could. Rather easily." he admitted.
Since the boy didn't engage him, or make any ridiculous comments, Octaviuos simply assumed that this was one of the "projects" that filled most of the halls here. Alarms would have been going of if the boy weren't. This place was far too secure for a hero to walk in unnoticed.
One of the metal arms moved to the side and slid behind the hero in an arch. Nothing threatening...more of a gesture to keep the boy from going back the way he came. Another arm slid around the other side and almost pointed down another hallway. "I believe you should come with me."'

Spidey frowned a little under the mask. ... What the hell? No 'Curse you, Spider-man' or 'You foolish child, you have no idea what you're meddling with' ? What was going on? Maybe his rare moment of honest exhaustion had caused Octavious to make some sort of critical mistake... but what kind? The urge to say something smart was almost a physical force, but he swallowed down each of the five magnificent quips that had immediately come to mind and nodded. "...Okay..." was all he said, though his voice was more than a little uncertain. Maybe, if he played along, he could figure out what the hell was going on.

The arm behind Spidey nudged him forward to walk ahead of Octavious. The arm that had pointed down the hall helped guide him down the right halls.
Octavious, unfortunately, had no clue what he was really doing. As far as he knew, this was simply another project. Whether it was an actual version of one of the many spiders he had seen here....one of his other version's clone projects....or this organizations clone projects thanks to the dna they acquired from that young girl. Perhaps they'd finally finalized that enough that they were practicing on others rather than her own duplications.
"What was the last thing you remember?" he asked, wanting to get a bit of a better gauge of what type of project he had just run into.

Crap. "Um... It's actually all kind of a blur," he replied. That line usually worked in soap operas, right? Okay, time to swallow his pride and ham it up. "I know you, though... right? You look...really familiar." I see a house with a white picket fence! I'm running through fields of alpha with my collie, Rex! Okay, no. He had to focus. Unspent adrenaline sometimes had the tendency to make him a little silly.

"One version, I'm sure." Octavious replied. "If it hadn't been for the rather obvious difference in your physical build, I would have well mistaken you for the version I am more familiar with. Which, I'm afraid wouldn't have been such a calm meeting." Oh no. It was never anywhere close to a civilized greeting between the two. There would have been words...snarles...webbing...bouncing all over the place...various structures obliterated...

Okay, so that was confirmation that this Octavious was the version that his older doppelganger was used to. If Spidey's earlier fight with that world's Green Goblin had been any indication, it would be better to avoid a fight with the good Doctor if he could manage it. He hesitated, looking up at the taller man. "What do you mean?" he said carefully, his tone guarded. He hoped he wasn't overplaying this; usually, his acting only went as far as playing possum. "Versions... Are we supposed to be enemies?"

As if they were answering Spider-Man's own question, the two arms that were guiding him turned towards him. Slowly, and almost with a suspicious gesture.
"It's quite a bit of a habit..." Octavious replied, his gaze difficult to determine behind his dark glasses. "But unfortunately yes. My version of yourself causes quite a bit of difficulty for me to continue my work. For you though...I really can't say." he said, then looked down at the boy. "You're not from my universe."
One of the arms moved ahead of the two, and punched in a code on a security box outside a door to the right of them. The machine made a shrill beeping noise, and the metal doors slid open.

Spidey just stared at him innocently, as though this was news (and as though he hadn't just made a careful note of the spots the arm had pressed on the keypad, just in case he had to come back through here). It so, so was not news, but... that did mean that this version had been there for a while. Perhaps he'd even met his counterpart from Spidey's universe. "...Ooookay...?" was all he said, drawing the word out in a way that clearly said, 'You, sir, are making very little sense right now,' "Where are we going, anyway?"

"This is simply one of the waiting rooms." Octavious replied as if it were nothing. "I certainly don't have the authority to take you any farther in this facility, but you can't really roam the halls either. Far too many turns to get lost in. I can wait with you if you'd prefer. I'll need to call someone who knows the building better to escort you to a more comfortable location. Perhaps help you farther with your lack of memory."
A bit of a lie, but mostly the truth. This was a waiting room, but one used for "projects" who were having a bit of free time. Quite difficult to get out of. As for who he'd call...it would either be the woman in charge, or his "other" to confirm if this was "his" version.

"Ah," Spidey replied, his spider-sense singing softly. Whatever that room was, he probably didn't want to go in. He abruptly crouched, swung around one of the nearer tentacles, bringing both of his feet speeding towards the Doctor's face. "In that case, I guess I'm going to have to say... Have you put on some weight? Ever heard of Atkins? Weight Watchers? Jenny Craig? I'm only asking because I care, Doc; consider this an intervention. ...God, is such a relief to say that out loud! I can't even tell you."

Otto hadn't been expecting it. So, needless to say, the boy's kick connected perfectly with his face and sent him tumbling backwards, his now broken glasses clattering on the ground beside him.
The only real good news for him was that he went quite a few rounds with a much older version for much longer periods of time. The blow to the face was quite the impact, but not enough to knock him out. His metal arms immediately went on the offensive, faster then the Doctor could even make sense of what happened. A kick to the face usually meant Spider-Man, so it was practically reflex for the arms now.

Spidey immediately went into dodging mode, flipping and twisting through the arms like it was some kind of particularly homicidal jungle gym, trying to get close enough to hit the Doc in the face again while he was dazed. Once again, a fair fight was not a winning proposition when it came to the other universe's baddies. "I mean, I don't think I've ever gone that long without insulting your stupid haircut, or pantsing you, or something."

Octavious painfully rubbed his face, then glowered at the Spider. He could taste blood...nose was probably broken. Damn it. He let his guard down too much. He assumed it was a "project", so he didn't expect it to attack. They weren't supposed to. Something would have happened immediately if one did.
Which meant that this wasn't a project...
"Insufferable..." he growled murderously.
One arm snaked it's way back to the control panel by the door. Two arms busied themselves with trying to cause enough of an obstacle for the boy that it would take some time for him to get close to him. The last arm retreated back to Octavious, ready to intercept any attack should he get through.

"Thaaat's more like it!" Spidey said happily, dodging tentacles with easy, graceful acrobatics as he spoke, "Now tell me that I cannot hope to comprehend the true scope of your plan." Instead of trying to hit the supervillain again, he landed on the wall around the door they had entered through, grabbing that nearest tentacle and sticking the end of it deep into the wall with about as much effort as most people used plugging in a set of headphones. Then he set to work on the control panel, got the door open again, and then calmly pulled out the wiring from the keypad, locking it in that position. He did NOT want to get stuck in there.
