"Oh..." she said quietly and looked back at the fire. Despite spending almost two weeks traveling together they knew virtually nothing about the other, besides the chosen profession. She understood not wanting to talk about things, very well she understood it. But she wondered what may have happened in his past to make him not want to talk about it. Or... maybe he was just like that? She sighed and turned the rabbits again, venturing out to talk again. Sort of like a trade up on information. "I have a brother... A twin..." she offered out quietly and began fiddling with her pendant again. Every time she thought of her twin she always messed with that little blue rock. Volare had one as well and it reminded her of him.

Again his dark red eyes were afixed on the sky above. It wasn't until she mentioned her own family that he finally tore his gaze away and looked over towards her. She was fiddling with that blue pendant of hers; something he noticed she did now and then though he didn't think anything of it.
"Must be nice..." he mused quietly. Blade wasn't just referring to having a sibling, but he noticed that her words were within the present tense, meaning this brother of hers was still alive. It aroused a few new questions in his mind, but he held them back for now.

Isis frowned and turned the rabbits again, they were pretty close to being done and the smell was enticing. Must be nice... Not really... she thought sadly. Sure, she had a sibling, a twin even. But they hadn't seen each other in 5 years. She knew he wasn't dead but that was it. Was he married, did he have kids? What was he doing with his life. She never really felt whole after that day, her other half was somewhere else. She missed him, as much as she missed her dead family, maybe even more since she knew him to be alive. She sighed and pulled the spit off the fire, burning her fingers in the process of trying to remove one of the rabbits. She hissed in pain, jerking her hand away instinctively and glaring at the offending piece of meat. "Food's done." she said in an agitated tone as she shook her hand and now throbbing fingers.

As things fell silent once more, Blade's attention shifted back to the stars for the time being. He didn't look back at her until he heard her hiss in pain and mention that the food was done.
"Are you alright?" he asked as he got up from the tree so that he could get his dinner. The thief seated himself before the fire, enjoying the warmth it gave before carefully taking his rabbit and beginning to eat it. It was hot, but he at least had a little resistance to heat thanks to both his esper and his natural fire magic abilities.
"Thanks for dinner."

Isis shot him a look that said do I look like I'm ok?! she wiggled her fingers, looking down at them. It hurt, but luckily it wasn't crippling or anything like that, she looked at Blade munching on his rabbit. His still steaming hot rabbit, and stared for a moment before snorting and rolling her eyes. "You take them off next time." she joked. If she had thought about it she could've just asked him in the first place due to his half sheika nature. Isis however had to wait for hers to cool off before she could chow down. She tilted her head back and looked up at the stars that Blade had been looking at not to long ago as she waited for her rabbit to cool. It was really nice out here, it was peaceful. She hadn't had a job in nearly a month and the traveling, and being away from the city, was doing wonders for her.

After swallowing a bit of meat, Blade grinned at Isis, "You could have asked me first."
Around that time, Vol had finished chewing on the mossy stone and he was now curled up comfortably and resting without paying much heed to the humanoids near him. The Maonui was pretty tired from today's travels so he just wanted to relax after having his meal.
Noticing that she was looking up at the sky, the thief found his gaze drifting upwards as well. In a sense it was habit of his to be stargazing. It was calming to some extent, though at the same time it usually put him in somewhat of a reflective and sometimes even in a somber one. Right now it was more of the former than the latter feeling for him.

Isis shrugged and tentatively touched the rabbit to see if it was hot or not. "I didn't think about it till it was too late." she confessed and pulled the rabbit carcass off the stick and bit into it carefully. The outside may have cooled off but the inside was still hot. She munched and looked back up at the stars, so peaceful... she was loathe to disturb it but the whole reason she had decided to travel with Blade was to get information, and she had yet to do anything. "Blade, do you remember what I was asking about at the cafe back in town? About the thieves that raided that horse ranch?" she asked quietly.

Pausing from his meal as she spoke up again, Blade looked over at her from across the campfire. There was that topic again, though he wasn't too surprised. Considering how she acted before regarding it, the incident was bound to be brought up sooner or later.
"Yeah... what about it?" he replied. He was rather curious as to what she wanted to know about it or how exactly she was involved.
When it was brought up again, Vol cracked open an eye to look at the two. He was somewhat interested as well though he didn't comment on anything. For now he was content with just listening in on the conversation.

Isis sighed and continued to gaze up at the night sky, trying to figure out how to word what she wanted to say. "I'm looking for those thieves, although you've probably already figured that out, and I'm looking to kill them... You've probably figured that out as well." she said, turning to look back at the fire, she was going to tell her story, it was something she needed to do. Maybe it would help her heal, if anything it would at least explain why she was out to kill people. "6 years ago, that ranch was my home, that family.... my family.." she said softly, staring into the flames of the fire, absorbing the sight of the flickering light as she continued her story...
A normal day, it started out just like any other regular day. Isis woke up in the early morning with her brothers to feed the horses. "Piggy back!!!" Using her bed for leverage Isis jumped onto her eldest brother and wrapped her arms and legs around him with a giggle. "Your too heavy Isis!" he said comically, slowly sinking towards the ground as Isis giggled even more "No I'm not, your just not strong Davy." she teased him and wrapped her arms around him tighter as he jumped up and zoomed around with her attached, "Not strong you say?!" he said in mock outrage and zoomed out their bedroom door with the 13 year old still attached to him.
Once they got into the barn Isis detached herself from him and grabbed the feed bucket to start on the horse feeding. She sang the lullaby her mother sang to her, it was her favorite song, and fed the horses, greeting each one with a kind comment and a kiss on the nose. "Good morning Philip, your looking fine today. Faline your coat is so shiny!! Rosco your growing up to be so big!" this continued until all the horses were fed, Davy taking them out one by one and brushing them down while Volare and Alta cleaned out the stalls. Everything had to look it's best in case of buyers after all. Isis ran to where they hung up the tack and got her horses halter, the name Toast etched lovingly into the leather. "Toast!!! Come on boy, ready for a ride?" she called to the buckskin stallion of which she had named after her favorite food at the age of 9. Toast stuck his head out of the stall and whinnied in response as she put on his halter and brought him out to be saddled up.
Coming out of the barn Isis looked over to see that they had customers already. That was weird, it was just before dawn, the sun wasn't even up yet. They never got customers this early. Isis shrugged and walked Toast over to the people that her parents were talking to, her mother straitening her hair out anxiously as she hurried over to them. "Two horses, good ones. The best you have." the man was saying, he had dark hair and Isis didn't trust the look in his eyes as he looked over at her. "If you want the best you have to be the best." Isis chimed up from where she stood, looking at the woman in the group with a smile. The cold frown she was met with made her falter and look at her parents. "Really. You have to be the best, our horses are special and deserve people who will love them like we do. S-so if you want the best you have to be the best." she told them defensively, a childish pout on her face. She didn't like these people, she didn't want them to buy their horses, she wanted them to go away. They didn't look like nice people at all the mans eyes were mean, and the woman's were too. "Mom I don't like them, I don't want them to have our horses." she told her mom, whispering loudly. "Will you please do something about that child." the woman snapped at her father and Isis looked at them incredulously, her blue eyes wide and reproachful. "Da-" "Isis maybe you should go." "But Dad!!" "I said GO!" her dad snapped at her and she took a step back before outbursting in a childish rage. "Fine!!" she yelled back at her dad before running and mounting her horse, galloping away from the ranch, down the road before stopping abruptly under a tree and sitting there with the pout still on her face. "They shouldn't be buying horses, they aren't nice people." she told her horse sullenly and looked back towards the ranch. A prickly feeling feeling started at the back of her neck, and soon her whole body was covered in goosebumps. "Toast, how long does it take to buy a horse?" she asked, not expecting an answer in any way at all. But it was taking too long. They should've been gone by now, galloping out with the two poor horses they bought. Isis didn't think they were the type of people who talked much, so they should've been gone by now. She shook her head, there was noting to worry about, maybe the just didn't like kids? But their eyes... their eyes were cold and mean. She sighed and patted her horses neck, running her fingers through his now tangled mess of black mane. The run had tangled it up and she would have to brush him when she got home.
Hearing horses hooves she looked back at the ranch and was shocked to see smoke rising from the direction of her home. The noise from the horses became louder, there was too much noise, something wasn't right. There shouldn't be so many hooves. Out of the road that led to their ranch the entire herd of horses burst from the pass, the two people and a pair of wolfos herding the horses down the dirt road, Isis looked on with wide eyes and scrambled up the tree she was under, swatting Toast to make him run away from her hiding spot. They're stealing our horses... she thought to herself and looked back at the ranch with worry. The smoke was dark, like what it looked like when they burned the hay that had gone bad... the thieves swept by without so much as glancing up and once the sound of hooves faded in the distance Isis jumped down from her tree and whistled to Toast. The smoke was growing thicker and she mounted her horse at a run and urged him towards their home.
Isis blinked, swallowing and wiping off her face from the tears that had started to flow. "They were slaughtered... bite marks, sword wounds... the entire field was on fire. They had used that to get the horses out of the pasture. I couldn't stand it, I couldn't stay... I didn't even bury them... I looked for Volare but I couldn't find him, all I could do was leave. she said with a sniffle and closed her eyes.

As she went on to elaborate, Blade listened and watched her carefully. He was surprised to hear that the family involved was her own, seeing how he thought there were no survivors from the incident. It just showed that sometimes things heard by mouth aren't the most reliable sources of information. The story continued and he remained silent throughout the entire thing. It was certainly a tragic tale, and it showed why she was so bent on revenge. Still, despite what had happened, his stance on vengeance was the same.
"I'm sorry for your loss," he said quietly once she had finished speaking. It was obvious that it was difficult for her to be talking about it, though he had to wonder why she even told him everything when not only was he a criminal himself, but more or less a stranger too. Perhaps she just needed to vent it out of her, or something along those lines. Loss at the hands of another was something he was fairly familiar with, so he could feel some sense of empathy here.
"I take it you're also looking for your brother while trying to seek out the culprits," he added while he was digesting everything he had heard. The thief felt some need to try and push her off the path of revenge, but she seemed to be pretty deep in it already.
During the entire story, Vol was laying by, listening. He could draw a couple similarities between the two's past though he definitely wouldn't say they were on the same boat. It was close though. Heaving out a heavy breath, he rested his head back onto the ground as he glanced over towards the other espers to see how they were reacting to all of this.

Bala and Onxon had sat by as Isis told her story, and now that it was done the wolfos walked over to her pactmaker and sat down next to her, nuzzling into her hand. Both had heard the story, though never such a colorful rendition of it and even Onxon was silent. Isis nodded "Yeah, I ask about him every now and then. But there isn't much other to say than 'Hey have you seen a guy, he looks like me wears a blue pendant and his name is Volare." she said with a half hearted shrug. She sighed, "So that's where the questions are coming from, I figured that since your a theif you would know more about it than I could probably ever find out on my own." and that's why she had kept that mercenary from trying to kill him. "Thanks for listening, but I think I'm going to call it an early night." she gestured to the barely eaten rabbit. "Vol can have that if he isn't too full from his rock." she said and stood up from her spot by the fire, going to her side of their little campsite and laying down on her bedroll, Bala curled up around her and Onxon even came over to nuzzled into her side. "I'm sorry that your hurting, Isis, but you shouldn't go out for revenge, it makes you no better than them my dear..." Isis sighed and pulled the blanket up around her "I know Onxon... I know.."

Nodding slowly to the girl, Blade remained by the fire, brooding over a few things here and there. Unfortunately he didn't know much about the killers, but it probably wouldn't be too hard to dig up some information from the underground. He would just have to be careful about it. And actually, there were a few questions he had for her before doing anything else, but he supposed it could wait until morning seeing how she was heading to bed now.
Eyeing the rabbit, Vol reached out for it and went ahead to finish it off. Rocks aside, real meat was good to have too. As he munched on the roasted rabbit, he looked at the thief and spoke softly.
"What are you going to do?" he asked quietly so as to not disturb Isis from her attempt to sleep. The flaming Maonui wanted to know Blade's thoughts on the matter.
"There's a few things I'd like to find out first..." replied the man. If he were to help her out with finding the culprits, he'd only be pushing her further along the path of vengeance. He would be more willing to try and locate her brother if possible, but that was most likely the harder of the two.
"Trying to figure out if you'd get anything out of it?"
"Vol, you know I'm not like that," sighed Blade as he shook his head. But Vol did have a point there; he had little to gain for helping her either way. That wasn't much of a concern for him right now, however.

Isis closed her eyes and sighed, blocking out the soft mummers of her traveling companions. She mulled over what she had done, her decision to tell this stranger about her past, it was better that he was a stranger. Telling a friend, if she had one, would have been more complicated and they would have just wound up feeling sorry for her and she couldn't stand that. She felt anger, resentment, and a deep desire for revenge, but she had never felt sorry for herself. If anything she blamed herself, maybe those thieves wouldn't have stolen the horses if she hadn't been so nosy or bothersome, maybe she just put them in a bad mood.. She knew better, just them being at the ranch so early dismissed those ideas, she still couldn't help but think sometimes. She curled up, drawing her knees closer to her chest and wrapping her arms around the wind guardian as if he was a teddy bear. Onxon tolerated it with a humph and Isis soon drifted off into sleep.

The next day, while they were packing up the camp, Blade thought a little more on what he had learned the previous night. Once he had finished up and slung his sack over his shoulder, he paused and looked towards the path they were most likely going to be taking.
"There's a few questions I have for you before we move on," he started quietly before fixing his eyes onto her, "First off... let's say you manage to kill the culprits who caused the tragedy. What do you plan on doing then? It seems to me that right now that is your biggest drive; your purpose you could say. What happens once that's finished?"
The expression he wore was rather serious. He didn't care too much if it offended her since he felt this was fairly important. It was something he thought she needed to think about before anything else at the moment.

Isis didn't look up and tied down the rest of her pack as Blade asked his question. She figured there would be, no sane person would just accept helping someone to kill another, no matter what the reason. She pulled her pack on and then turned to look at him. "After that is done I find my brother. And after I find my brother, who knows. Maybe I'll settle down and lead a normal life." a smirk caught on her face at the last comment and she shrugged. Isis would hate a normal life, she liked being able to wander, going where she wanted when she wanted it. She would have to find a new job, but she doubted she would ever want to stay in a place that was too permanent.
