"I will have to take your word for it. Appearance was never much of a factor for me. I've chosen things based on wearability. But thank you."
Longcoat on and staff in hand he was ready. Shoes were waiting byt the door, easily slipped on. "I have been ready, Elle. Lead on." A soft chuckle escaped from the little one's proclaimation. This would certainly be interesting.

With a nod and a small, affirmative noise, Elle's hand found Lonan's and the edged up the stairs once more. Glancing back, other hand steady upon the railing as Kudzu's weight shifted, Elle smiled at the brightly outlined silhouette of the young man following.
Her room was nestled into the cliffs, cut from living stone. She loved it...there was nowhere more comfortable, except for the place she'd arrived. But so enclosed, so deep....perhaps it was a net, after all.
Aki was waiting by the door, a little cloth bag in her hand despite Lonan's assurances that they would be well fed. "Just some things for Kudzu! He might get hungry before you arrive. Is there anything else?" Obviously stalling, enjoying their company, Aki's tone was sweet and genuine.
Glancing at Lonan, Elle shrugged. "I think we're ready! Thanks Aki, and thanks again for breakfast. It was wonderful." Nisha babbled something from the other room as Elle leaned in to give Aki a kiss. The sudden deafening sound of an elephants call preceeded the shattering of dishes by only a heart's beat.
"Ohhhh, DESPERATE! Ah, travel safely, and it was a pleasure, Lonan. Please, visit again as soon as you may!" Rushing off after a quick kiss planted on Kudzu's leafy crown, Aki ducked back into the kitchen among tiny Nisha giggles.
Laughing under her breath, Elle nudged open the front door and squinted in the bright midmorning light. "We're off, then!" Her hand found Lonan's once again, though she made no attempt to guide him.
Sometimes, it was simply nice to be close.

Wings tucked safe and tight against his back under the coat he followed. There was no hesitation this time, knowing the way from the few trips up and down.
"Understood. Thank you agian for having me. And breakfast was kind of you." He knew she was merely worried about the baby. He'd have been more concerned had she just let them go. And the meal had defiantely been appretiated. His energy was back to normal and his body rested and healed. Time to move.
The trumpeting might have been different but Lonan didn't even startle. "So that's the kith and kin? Perhaps you should invest in stonewear."
Chuckling softly he followed Elle outside and towards the path bck to the Hollow. Hopefully Drac wouldn't scare them too badly on their first visit.

The walk was peaceful...luck was with them. No winter breeze to stir their clothes, no heavy rain to wet their hair. It was still early enough that the leaves carried their brittle burden of frost...everything seemed to crunch underfoot as they strolled.
Kudzu couldn't have been happier. Though his little eyes still didn't focus properly, he gazed at everything...the trees arching overhead, the swelling mountains along the coast. Occasionally, as they passed through a patch of sun, he'd take a deep breath...just like Nisha before she would wail. There was no cry, though, only an equally peaceful exhalation.
"I can't imagine a more content child. It's a lovely change, after some of the trials at home." Slipping her arm more comfortably through Lonan's, while the trail was wide enough to allow it, Elle slowed in another patch of sun.
Kudzu blinked at her quietly as she spun the sling gently to the back...leaving her front unburdened. Reaching up with both arms, Elle gave Lonan a long and sincere embrace...smiling against his cool skin. "Thank you for visiting me, and thank you for letting me stay. I'm glad we shared what we did."

The longcoat was kept open in the warmer breeze. Indian summer. That was what Devmani had termed it before. An odd warm spell in winter. It was probably cooler back by the Hollow but the path's air was crisp and clean. Patches of warmth hit his back. A very nice path to take.
"He is a quiet one, isn't he? Rare to see one happy to just be held and around others." A hand reached out to ruffle the soft hair for a moment. A rare sign of favor from him.
For a moment he was caught off guard. Then he felt her arms going around him. The flicker-smile was in place as he wrapped her in arms and wings, mindful of Kudzu on her back. Content with her arms around him he feathered a light kiss on her forehead. "You are very welcome. And thank you for staying with me."

There simply wasn't much else to say. Staying in Lonan's arms for a moment, content and quiet, Elle smiled against his chest. It was a beautiful day, and promised to only get better.
Kudzu sighed in contentment as well, leaning his little head back to rest against Elle's shoulder. Sun washed over his pale face, and his hair ruffled quietly in a gentle breath of wind. Yawning widely, though he never seemed to sleep, one little trembling fist rose as he stretched.
At the babe's yawn, Elle pulled back...glancing over one shoulder to make sure he was well. "Hungry, little one? Here." Rustling about in her bag for a bit, Elle found a banana...peeling it swiftly and breaking it into three. One piece went to Kudzu, and he grasped it with a happy chirp. The other she offered to Lonan...keeping the last for herself.
"A snack, while we walk? Once the weather is more consistant, we should have a picnic. I know so many lovely spots, by the water and rocks." She glanced sidelong at her companion, eyes as bright as the sun on her hair as she looked over his scars and pale silhouette. Life was blessedly simple sometimes, and yet so unendingly complex.
She wouldn't have it any other way.

He politely refused the fruit. He was never one to eat much and breakfast had been more than enough for him. "There are a few places that I've been told of near here that you might enjoy."
His hand found her's again, lightly twining their fingers. One ebon wing moved to shade the baby a bit, offering soft feathers for inspection.
Once they returned to a path he was familiar with walking the rest of the way to the Hollow was easy enough. He knew a shorter route that was warmer than most this time of year.
Silent reflection was interupted by a lud whinny and a snort. "Hello Jyotsana." The tari whuffed and touched a velvet nose to his cheek before darting off for the main house. A few moments later there was a loud exclaimation followed by the sound of the front door opening and closing. "In coming."

Kudzu made a brief, sad noise at being shaded...a protest that faded as soon as his milky eyes focused on the feathers. Reaching forward, he stroked them open handed...little fingers simply petting rather than grasping as many children would have done. Of course, he still left the faint scent of banana, but he was only a babe. A curious breath escaped him, as though he was curious why Lonan's leaves were so dark and soft.
Munching a bite of Lonan's section, Elle passed the rest back to Kudzu....twisting to see why the child didn't accept it. Ah, he was otherwise occupied! She wasn't particularly hungry either, but Elle wasn't one to waste. Popping the last bite in her mouth, she paused to contemplate what to do with the peel.
Ah well, they were close! Tucking it back in her bag, she bent to wipe her hands in the fresh grass...smoothing them over her dress once clean. It felt good to be back in the Hollow, fond memories bringing a smile and a squeeze of Lonan's hand.
She watched the tari gallop away before lifting her eyes to the building...one arm shifting to bring Kudzu back around to her front. The babe still held a handful of mushed banana, but he dropped remarkably little...raising his fist to eat from the bottom before it could fall.
"It's good to be back...I'm sure you were missed." A few private words before she met Drac, and one more squeeze of his hand. No more time to dally, they were there!

"LONAN!"
From the house a patch of glinting silver troted down the steps and started jogging towards the two teens.
"To put it mildly I think. I'm likely to have been scented already. Don't fret though, she's just very protective." He went silent as Drac came up to meet them.
"Lonan. Shower. Now. I can still smell the blood on you. No, don't argue. Just go. Now."
The dark teen managed to look silghtly abashed but stood his ground. "Draconayzia, this is Elle and Kudzu. Elle, my guardian, Draconayzia."
The windchaser offered a small tilt of the head and a smile for Elle. But she dind't move from her spot. Finally Lonan sighed and shook his head. "Don't scare them too much." With that he headed towards the house.

Elle's face relaxed into a smile as Drac began bossing Lonan. She would never dream of speaking to the young man as such, but the tone of a mother was a warm and welcome thing...no matter how hard the words. Watching him stroll towards the house, she settled her attention back on the woman before her.
"Draconayzia, it's a pleasure! I'm friend to both Lonan and Devmani...surely such kind spirits must have a loving teacher. I'm glad to finally meet you." It wasn't an empty compliment...surely Drac was proud of both boys, and rightfully so. Offering both hands for a familiar clasp, Elle smiled in comfortable greeting. She didn't pick much up from Drac, though she certainly wasn't trying...but she briefly wondered if the woman was walled naturally or by choice. Either way, it didn't bother her.
Kudzu seemed to take a few moments to realize that someone new was present. When he finally focused on Drac, he lit up with bright understanding. Another elder! Perhaps this one would comfort him as well! Cheeks rising with a gurgling smile, the youngling reached one hand for the matron before him.

She watched the teen's retreating back, tail flicking languidly behind her until he was inside and she could faintly hear running water with sharp ears.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too, Elle. I remember you staying the night once, but I wasn't about to intrude." A warm smile lit the woman's face, clasping both of the young woman's hands warmly. In the sun her skin glittered a bit, glitter revealed as minute scales on her hands when they touched her's.
Hearing the gurgle the woman's face practically lit up. "AH! And who is this precious one?" Grinning she leaned down, offering finger and tail tip for him to grasp. It had only been a year or so since Devi was so small. Much as she was thankful for the lack of teething hoof-marks she missed having her "Little Thunder" clutching her tail.

Smiling at Drac's comment, Elle inclined her head. "I did indeed, but you wouldn't have been intruding. Lonan was kind to invite me for the evening."
Glancing down at Kudzu as he wrapped his tiny fingers around the tip of Drac's tail, Elle hitched the babe a touch higher out of reflex. "Aaaand this is Kudzu! My Lifeseed charm turned out much better than expected." It seemed like a nice way to say 'accident', but Elle actually meant exactly what she said. She couldn't imagine a more beautiful alteration to a spell, even if it was technically unplanned for.
Oblivious to the discussion, Kudzu leaned forward...lush hair rustling as he nummed along the side of Drac's tail tip. Elle tried to wiggle a finger gently between the babe's mouth and the appendage to deter him. "Sorry about that, but a baby is a baby." It was said with the warm tone of shared understanding. "Feel free to hold him, if you're ever inclined. He loves the attention."
Raising her amber gaze to the doorway, Elle nodded toward the inside. "Is there anything I can help you with, while Lonan's in the shower? Oh, and I've brought one of my tea blends for you, a gift! I'll dig it out once we're settled!"

"Oh I know you weren't up to anything." Grinning she tapped the tip of her nose. "Just thought that having Lonan so relaxed was much more important than curiosity."
"Kudzu, eh? That's an interesting name, but a bright one." The grin that was on her face looked permanent. When he started on her tail tip she just chuckled.
"No worries. I'm used to having small things grab my tail and he's gentler than most. When Devi was small he used it as his personal camoflague. Shy as hades and left clutch marks in my tail that I swear still linger."
When told she could hold the baby she looked ready to flip. Literally. "Oh! Such a treat!" Careful hands plucked Kudzu from his sling, nestling him against the scaled woman with an over large fox tail. "You can hang on to that as long as you like sweetie. Tea? Sounds like a good idea. And I'll cut some pie. Without Devi around it's going to waste!" Grinning like aloon she opened the door and ushered the young woman in, headed to the kitchen with the babe still wrapped in her tail.

Still smiling at Drac's words of Lonan and Devi, Elle followed her hostess inside. She rolled her shoulder absently, surprised at how light she felt once free of the babe's weight. He was easily ten pounds heavier than he appeared, but Draconayzia didn't seem to be having the slightest bit of trouble lugging him around.
"I just can't imagine Devi being shy! He seems so calm and self assured. Perhaps, unless it's none of my business, you could tell me the tale of how your family came to be?" Her gaze settled on Kudzu for a moment with a fond smile, but the child was too busy rubbing his cheek against all the strange and lovely textures. "I know loved ones have a way of....just floating into your life."
Settling down at the table, Elle slipped out from the strap of her satchel...digging gently until she found the pouch she'd brought for Drac. Leaving it on the table, she hung the bag across the back of her chair and relaxed with a happy sigh. It felt so close to home, being here...it was hard not to bustle about and lend a hand!

"Honestly, just kinda happened. I dreamed about Devi long before he came into my life. He was such a sweet baby! And he was very shy. He's more assured around those like him but he's still not one to barge in unless he's needed. Here's a picture of him." She pulled a frame from the sil by the sink and offered it to Elle. In it was the image of a small centaur, all whispy hair and long, wobbly legs. He was sitting in the middle of a paddock and staring cross-eyed at a butterfly on the end of his nose.
Another frame was produced, this one with the same small figure peeking out from under a silvery tail, undoubtedly Drac's. "He was such a cute baby. And quite the little ladies' man. Every female in HQ just had to bustle over to him and spoil him with attention. Once he got over himself anyway. And now he's bigger than I am!" The hearty chuckle was tinted with a bit of sadness. She'd loved having Devi small enough to coddle. But he's grown into a fine young centaur in her eyes. She was proud of him.
"I've picked up pets, companions along the way, but few to really be called family. Devmani is one. And so is Lonan."
Hearing his name Lonan walked into the kitchen, damp with a towel to his hair and familiar black pants in place. "I hope you've been speaking well of me."
Keen ears picked up little scuffling claws on the floor, coming in fast. "Polaris and Ciela in coming."
Drac moved to hold the baby a bit firmer in her arms and got out of the way just as two balls of fur came rocketing into the kitchen. Unaccustomed to tile they skidded and slammed into the cabinets.
"Serves you right, you both know better." The greyish cera glared at the woman and yaowed at the injustice of it all, opening his maw wide to proclaim it. He was treated to a tail tip flicked on the tip of his nose, shocking him into silence and back on his rump. "Hush. You'll be fed later. Ciela, keep your baby brother in line." The blue cera bopped the grey on the head and dragged him out by the scruff.
"Thank you, Lonan."
The teen was by now seated next to Elle at the table. "Welcome."
