"It... It's fine." He said, slowly standing up again. It was strange, sometimes he felt responsible for her, kind of like she was his family. It was weird. "It's pretty late..."

Cal looked on at the door, sure that if she left, she wouldn't get any sleep. She probably wouldn't even go back to her room and find somewhere with people to be around. Not likely at this time of night. There was only one option, "C-can I stay with you?" She didn't make eye contact with him. "I'd just feel.... Safer."

"I... I guess." He shrugged. "I didn't plan on sleeping anyways. Just don't kick Aki." He wandered over to the bedside table to pick up his paperwork. He'd be just as comfortable on the floor as he would be on the bed.

She gave a sigh of relief. She wouldn't have to roam tonight. But there was still something that nagged at her. Gnawing at her tired, confused mind for the longest. Now was the time to finish what she had started at the restaurant.
"Mau?" She watched as he gathered his things. She grew impatient and grabbed his wrist out of impulse. She wanted him to face her when she bared her heart to him. "I..." She wouldn't chicken out this time, there were no distractions, "I love you Mau." The words were rushed, Cal barely registered that she had actually blurted it out. A second later, still gripping his wrist, her face heated up as she realized exactly what she had done. I actually did it.... What have I done?

Mau looked at her when she had grabbed his wrist, and then blurted out her feelings to him. "I know." He said softly. "Geeze... This was not..." This is not a conversation that should have to happen.
"You know I'm twice your age, right?" More than twice if he were being honest.

Cal let go of his wrist. Mau had known? Of course he did, she was like a leech attached to him. "I know that." She put on a brave face, did he really think she was that dumb? "But, love knows no bounds....." She whispered quietly, more to herself than to him. All that talk of being yourself earlier that day had really hit home. She couldn't hide it any longer, even if he did know she was glad she had told him.

"You don't know anything about me." He was trying to maintain a calm air. Though he wasn't confidant that he was doing a very good job. "So how can you even think you love someone who's only slightly better than a stranger?"

"But I'd like to get to know you...." Cal couldn't argue with him there. She sat back down on his bed. "I don't want to sound cheesy, or overly cliche, but I feel that we really click, you know?" She most likely wasn't getting anywhere with him.

"There are things about me you shouldn't ever have to know." He replied. "Cal..." Augh, this was going to be a very hard conversation, wasn't it? Like trying to explain the birds and the bees to your daughter or something.
Daughter? That's it!
"I do care about you, but not in the way you want me too. I want to protect you... as if you were my daughter."

"But...." She wasn't getting anywhere with him. Not to where she wanted to be. Just because some things can be difficult to explain, or hard to understand didn't mean that someone willing shouldn't know. Cal sighed, daughter was the closest she'd get to Mau.
But she wasn't about to loose this battle. She could still love him from her place as his "daughter" as a cover. That really tugged at her heart. She would have to hold in her true feelings. "Then may I at least have a hug?" After crushing someone's dreams, it was something to make her feel better she figure.

Mau could only give her a warm smile. "Alright." He agreed and reached out and pulled her into a hug. "I'm sorry, Cal." But this was the way it was. He had no romantic interest in the girl. He gave her hair a gentle pat. "Now go to sleep." His tone was softer, kinder now.
