(( If the task doesn't involve the dragon, really, do we roll dice? And would craft come into play? ))

Remia got up to retreive her blue and silver strands, and then returned to her previous spot. She was glad for a task that she felt at least competent in, to erase the mental sting of her last failure. Braiding was something she'd learned long ago.

I'm sorry, mine.

"Oh, it's not your fault, love. You did your best, and so did I... it just wasn't quite enough this time. But we'll practice, later, and soon our best will be enough for any task." She looked over at Trith, who was still obediently sitting with the rest and watching Remia's every move.

She gazed at her dragon for a few moments with a soft smile, and then dropped her eyes to the strands in her hands, thinking of the pattern that the Weyrlingmaster had indicated to get it clear in her mind before she started.

Relieved to be able to relax a bit, Saranth trundled over to the other dragonets to rest, promising her rider that they would practice more with the image thing.

L'mur joined the other weyrlings, taking a blue and silver strand, and sat down, wondering when it would start to rain-- and if the lesson would be over before then. He began to work on the knot, twisting the strands together. It had been a while since he'd done similar work, but his fingers were deft.

(( Don't feel like everything will now have a dice roll. XDD Only certain occasions. If a dice roll is needed, it will be in bold like a choose-your-own adventure type of scenario.
(And actually, I'm adapting it from the pern game book. ))

N'tren sat on a rock watching the others practice their braiding. Datiath had gone back to the pile on dragonets and settled himself amoungst them. He really was a big fellow...or maybe it was just his rider's opinion. Taking the blue and silver strands, the bronze rider to be began his attempts on making his knot.

"Are our dragons allowed to come back over?" R'ael inquired, as he thoughtfuly started trying to work out the knot work in blue and silver. "I mean just to be sure...since we're not working on that right now..." He inquires of the teacher, chewing his lip thoughtfuly.

G'dor seated himself close to his brother, pleased with this set of training. This he could do- and do well. The boy was good with his hands and had an eye for detail having been trained to work with leather and various other materials for garb and the like. His hands delicately worked with the knots, slowly insuring every loop was in its place. "You worry too much." He snorted up towards R'ael, "They'll be back over when they're needed... I'd think it would be silly to see them try to help us with this one."

Remia was smiling, her fingers deftly fitting the strands into place. Once she'd set the pattern in her mind, it wasn't hard to complete in reality.

She heard G'dor's comment, and paused to look over at him. "They may not be able to help us, but Trith loves to watch when I do things like this," she said, and then heard Trith speak up.

I can see from here, but I would still like to come over, said the green, who was still sitting and watching her rider, though she had relaxed some and now had her tail tucked around her legs, her eyes a bright blue against her green hide.

"Soon, dear one, soon. But for now, if you can see from there, that will have to do. I'm not so far away, after all," she told her dragon as she returned to her task. She was nering the end of the knot now.

"I didn't think he was going to be able to HELP, Dimglow..." R'ael mutters, looking red with embarassment. "It's like she said..." he adds, nodding to Remia. "He just wants to watch."

N'tren glared at the both of them and went back to deftly trying to keep his loop rather tight. Once he graduated to a true weyrling, he would be using a bronze strip with his weyr colors to show everyone that he was Datiath's rider.

Humming to himself, he wondered what else was in store for the day.

L'mur eyed his knot, and peered up at the increasingly overcast sky. "Lovely, isn't it," he muttered drily at N'tren. PUshing his hair out of his eyes, he placed the knot on his knee, smoothing it out in a proprietary manner.

Grumbling over his braid as he works, and because he feels a bit touchy over his brother's dragon commentary...alright maybe G'dor might know a little more about dragons, but still...he glances up at the sky in response to the nearby comment about it's beauty, although he's not -really- part of that particular conversation.
"It's like the world pulled up a huge blanket over everything." He responds. Or maybe like the sky drew up the blankets to cover it's face. This kind of weather, the way the sky is heavy with rain but hasn't yet desided to open the deluge...always makes him feel, and this is really superstious nonsense he's sure...like the sky is waiting for something to happen, holding it's breath.

Grinning at L'mur, N'tren held up a finished knot and wondered if it would pass inspection by his weyrlingmaster. He stayed still for a moment, taking in the sounds of the weyr life around him and he tried to listen in with Datiath's ears.

Did dragons really have ears? He would have to pay attention during anatomy class some more. Datiath certainly heard him and many other things as well. "Before I was of working age, my mother would let us young ones stay inside by the fires and play. We would wrap in the blankets or play and drink weak klah. But when I got older, the rain meant we had to work faster before we got all wet!"

Mine, when I am grown, I shall protect you from the rain with my wings.

"What a clever idea, Dattie. You shall be grown soon enough. And I shall be grown as well."

Remia's tongue was poked out of the corner of her mouth as she completed one particularly tricky bit on the knot. She looked up momentarily as the sky was mentioned, and made a face. She hated being rained on, but it didn't look as though the class would be completed before that happened.

But the rain feels good, Mine, like a good scratching. Trith offered ecouragingly.

"I'm sure you love it, Trith, dear, but to me it simply feels cold and wet," she returned with a sigh.

She quickly finished up the rest of the knot, and looked around to see who else was done. She saw N'tren with his, and held hers up. "What do you think?" she asked. She was used to classes full of aprentices all working diligently, so she was sure the interruptions for conversation had caused something to be out of place.

N'tren nodded at her knot. It looked just like the one that Farin had showed the class. He had seen other riders going around with their shoulder knots and sometimes, they even had their original craft or hold colors as well.

Would he honor his hold and have their colors on his jacket? "Sometimes, the rains are nice and warm. It can be relaxing to be outside under the trees and listening to the rain. With the big leaves, you can sit for hours and not get wet."

Datiath grumbled something to Trith and moved closer next to her. She was smaller than his body but he settled next to her and draped his head over her neck. Our riders worry over the simplest of things, do they not?

N'tren held up his knot to Remia to see if she noticed any problems or loose ties. "Not as good as yours perhaps. But what do you think? Passable?"

(( But Naree... you can donate for Feb items until the last day in Feb... as long as it's postmarked in the month of the items you want, you still get them. *nod* So you can still donate! ))

Remia smiled, pleased at the nod, then set her knot in her lap and looked a little closer at the one he held up. It had a couple of places where it could have been pulled a little tighter, but nothing that stood out saying "ERROR" at her.

"That's very good, N'tren. Are you sure there's no Weaverblood in you?" she asked, lightly teasing.

"And I suppose there are warm rains, but in my experience, they tend to be cold. And in any case, wet clothes are not nice things. But I love to listen to the rain, too." she added with a nod.

Why do clothes not feel good, Mine?

"Wet ones don't, Trith. And it's because they stick, and pull all the warmth out of me."

Then why do you bother with them? Trith sounded mystified.

Remia blinked, and a light blush covered her nose. Well... because... humans wear clothes. They're decorative, and keep us warm... except when they are wet... and... there are a lot of reasons. Remia haltingly explained, sending her thoughts to the green. How to explain to a dragonet nudity? Dragons didn't wear clothes, and she suspected they didn't really think very much about it.
