They want to bring things more in line with the current big rulebook. Also, it will be a full-colour publication like Battle Missions, so they might finally drop the half coloured, half black & white format that they have been using for years now.

Sometime next year, after the Olympics, the 6th edition of 40k will be upon us. The starter set contents are unknown, though rumour has it that it will not contain Ultramarines / Space Marines (depends on the phrasing), Imperial Guard or alien races. Which leaves us with Sisters of Battle, Grey Knights, Traitor Legions and Daemons.

Big if could be the Adeptus Mechanicus as the other Imperial Faction, which has been vaguely hinted at as getting something of a comeback or official introduction if you will.

A trio of Tau rumour posts from Warseer:

stinger989
Some new info about the upcomming tau, again this is just rumors so take as you will.

HQ choices are used to unlock units for troops, so a commander in a crisis suit unlocks crisis suits as troops, an etheral unlocks fire warriors, shaper unlocks kroot, demiurg commander for demiurg as troops.

crisis suits-
mostly same stats but now 3 wounds
come with every gun option and you can choose what weapon systems you fire every round. cost (land speeder + extra HB) per model, squad size max 5

broadsides-
can take network markerlights instead of the missiles on their arms

more later.

Ghost of War
I can vouche for Stinger as we were at Adepticon this weekend together. Also a few things it looks like he missed.

Only the commander can take a shield generator. The shield generator functions exactly like the shadowfield for the dark eldar. 2+ until missed. Also...

Drones are no longer bought as wargear. They are bought as a unit and then divided as you see fit that the start of the match. You can mix your drones when bought for the point cost needed. This addresses the Drone Squadrens etc as an option.

So you could see who your playing and decided if your shield drones are needed more on the crisis or the broadsides.

One markerlight can fire the seekers off one model. Seekers replentish and are no longer one use items. = Skyrays will be the new WIN (only able to fire one model a round.. so no chain firing tons of missiles off a skyray)

He is right, nothing is troops until you unlock it with a HQ or character.

I was a bit stunned to hear the above, and if it wasnt from the same source as the Grey Knight rumors that Stinger had.. I would have called BS. But I would bank on it.

stinger989
Lol thanks gow I was gonna slowly release more but that works too. Another small part added to the shield generator is it makes the model eternal warrior until he fails his save so ignores the first instant kill. Only the team leader can take it though

Yes skyrays will be the new god tank as missiles always hit side armor so mech will be a very hard army to fight with against tau.

More to come as I get some games in against the new book.

Okay so the idea that having a crisis suit Shas'O enables crisis suits as troop options is cool because you can really do a far sight style army now... but being forced to use an Ethereal to be granted fire warriors? I'm sorry but that's stupid. If anything, I'd say the lesser Shas enable firewarriors and if you upgrade to shas'o, be enabled crisis as well. I say this more than anything because I hate fielding Ethereals... lol

I like the changes to the drones though, it sounds more fluff oriented and adds a new level of strategy to the army.

I wonder if they'll include human auxilaries or other allies other than kroot and vespid. That would certainly make for an interested update to the empire.

seemingly there will be demiurg as new allies, really curious about them now...
crisis as troops lends itself to elite army with loads of special weapons, for circa 60 points you get mobile firepower with 3 wounds and 3+ save...
if rumors are true 5 of those can spit 15 burst canon shots at ig squad that another squad dismounted by shooting 10 missile pod shots at their chimera... or you can have 10 rapid fire plasma shots at marines dismounted from rhino by missile pods form previous squad
if all else fails and surrounded by horde of enemies activate flamers and burn as many as you can...
I hate ethereals, and given how they attract Marbo, Callidus, deep strikes and indirect fire I assume if you really want to include fire warriors, you gotta stuff one into devilfish and keep it incover... and pray that it survives enemy nasty stuff.

I was at a Games Workshop shop today and got to chatting with one of the guys about upcoming releases and rumours and learned some interesting things that are on the horizon. I know some of it has already been said by Warseer and repeated in here but since I heard it from a GW rep personally, I want to add it as another confirmation of things to come.

It is true that Necrons are next in line for a codex but Tau have been pushed back, between these two armies the Witch Hunters will see a revamp of their codex with all the delicious miniature upgrades that always accompany a new codex!

It definitely sounds like when the Tau get their new codex, that the new allies will be called the Demiurg which are in fact the Squats of the old second edition days:

In regards to the 6 Edition Rule Book, he said we have at least 2 more years of 5th to look forward to because what GW really wants to do is have all the current armies with updated books before pushing forward.

The final bit of news that I received is derived from hints that are embedded within the big book itself and are supported by the time frame that 5th have left to live with the count down of remaining codex's to upgrade. This news is that another army, a brand new race to the 40k universe is going to come into existence once the final 3 books are revamped. Will it actually happen or is it perhaps the launch for 6th edition? No clue, but either way, a new addition to the universe sounds awesome!

Disclaimer: I honestly don't spend a lot of time reading every thing posted, there is just too much to cover. So if all this was already spoken for I apologize, it was just news to me and I felt like sharing. ^_^

hmm interesting, I got some rumors concerning Sisters, and here they are:
http://lkhero.blogspot.com/2011/03/sisters-of-battle-incoming.html
that would mean necrons/sisters/tau timeline...
I wonder if CSM and Eldar will get their updated dexes next... CSM especially get only a few playable choces nowadays...
The new race got me excited, it is quite long time since new race appeared, it was Tau back in 3rd ed...
I'd love to see AdMech dex, but this is only a dream, not rumor...

Don't trust store staff too much, they can't find their assholes with the lights on in most cases.

Re sketch: it is done by Jes over a decade ago and no longer relevant-ish, though we might be surprised if GW decides to give Ward another shot at raiding stuff.

Brookman, I love how incredibly negative you can be. =P

In counter to what you said however, I find that GW staff in my territory at least are both very kind people and like ourselves, are in fact interested in the hobby and what is to come of it. In most cases, they know more than they let on because (surprise surprise) they aren't allowed to confirm/deny too much at any given time for upcoming projects. However, one can say a lot with a little and I've come to learn that the staff in my area love to hint at things and share ideas/theories because it gets people psyked for upcoming projects and lets face it, from a retail stand point it helps draw customers back to the store.

As for the sketch, I referenced that as an example of what the Demiurg could look like potentially. It's not official I know as no concept sketch is set in stone for use but it's an idea and it's a lot better than nothing.

Also, I did some checking in the big black book and found the reference to the new race that was hinted at. They are the 'hyper violent Barghesi" from the Grendl Stars on the far eastern fringe (Tau Territory). It is noted on the star chart of page 117 that they are to be avoided at all costs. Now I'm not saying that they are for sure going to happen, but it would certainly be cool if something did come of that.
